good morning, it's 4:30, i'm kris sanchez, laura garcia-cannon is off this morning. firefighters fought a fire. the fire burned about two acres before crewed managed to get it under control. one person was treated by paramedics at the scene after having a tough time breathing but no one else was hurt. the fire started in the foothills near mt. hamilton and three springs road. the fire happened near a homeless encampment and investigators are not yet saying it started there. let's bring in meteorologist

still around the bay, as well. watch 880 around stephen's creek's boulevard. you may have heard about smoke on a b.a.r.t. train last night. no delays but more on what was going on there in a couple of minutes, but for now, send it back to you. in breaking news the pakistani taliban is claiming responsibility for the second attack at the curatchy airport in pakistan. they attacked a training facility at the airport. video from pakistani television shows security guards rushing to the scene and taking up positions behind buildings or berms around the facility. the taliban says the acts are an act of revenge. right now security forces are reportedly still trying to fight off the militants, so it's not clear whether there are any casualties. meanwhile the number of deaths from the first attack at the curatchy airport is now up to 36. seven bodies found today in a

burned building at the airport inside a cold storage unit. at this point it's not clear how they got there or who the people are. a group of militants, some described as police attacked the airport on sunday night and fought with pakistani forces for about five hoirs. most of the militants were killed. the pack tan militant claims responsibility for this attack, as well. breaking news out of the east bay an amber alert for three children is now canceled. the children were found safe overnight with their mother in richmond, but there are still questions this morning about who shot their father in the backyard of their san pablo home. stephanie is live in richmond with the latest and we know the children were found safe, right? >> that's the important part, kris. the police found the three kids safe with their mom here in richmond. investigators have said very little since the last update. so, still a lot of questions this morning about what

happened. last night the amber alert went out with police warning people to watch out for this woman, 35-year-old alicia ort zerx, the mother. police reported that ortez had abducted her three children ages 2, 6 and 12 from the house in san pablo where they lived with their father on the 1600 block of 16th street. he was found shot dead in the backyard and investigators have not released his name but we spoke with the friend who described the father as a mec n mechanic who was always with his kids and a good dad. a black audi was found ouder outside the house and a pink princess backpack in that car. police say ortez does not have a permanent home and a transient who spends time in san pablo and richmond. police have not named her as a suspect in the father's homicide. again, the three kids this morning along with their mom found safe here in richmond.

no other details, really. we're expected to get an update later this morning from police, we'll have it for you then. >> thank you, stephanie p. also new this morning police say they think they know who shot a child in oakland overnight. investigators are not releasing the specific circumstances surrounding the shooting but a woman in her 20s and a little boy were shot near international boulevard and 81st street street. they have not said how old that child is. they expect the woman and the child to survive. police have a possible suspect but that american is not yet under arrest. the shooting came hours after a 3-year-old boy was crazed by a bullet on international boulevard 2 1/2 miles away. new details about the husband and wife who killed two las vegas police officer os and a walmart customer. investigators say jared and amanda miller left a swastika on the body of one of the two police officers they killed at point blank range.

now police are studying media and social media posts in hopes of figuring out what led this couple to kill three people before taking their own lives. hundreds of people held a vigil in honor of the three people killed. both officers were gunned down as they lunged and the third man was shot inside the walmart store as he reportedly tried to stop the shooting spree. he was killed before he could fire his concealed weapon, which he had a perimate to carry. the millers were involved in the high-profile standoff between investigators a high-profile rancher earlier this year. after law enforcement rounded up bundy's cattle for trespassing. the millers were asked to leave their anti-government protest because the miller's views were too extreme. right now a search is under way for a uc berkeley student who disappeared after going out for a hike alone.

the chronicle reports vernon cody matthews went to his family's cabin in eldorado county last monday. his parents last heard for him on friday before he left for a hike by himself. rescue crews are uses dogs, horses and helicopters to search the rugged forest. all of matthew's belongings were left at the cabin and he has experienced outdoors and hopeful he will be found alive. medical marijuana will take center stage, again, after lawmakers deadlocked on the issue last week. the city council will look at where the pop shops can go and how many the city will will allow. allow for more than 600 in the city of san jose. if the proposal passes, opponents are ready to submit a voter initiative to overturn. santa clara county leaders will discuss a proposal this one to extend a ban on ecigarettes

and treat the electronic devices the same astroditional cigarettes banning them in restaurants, bars and motels. the new set of proposed rules that outlawed cigarettes on county property. this meeting starts at 9:00 this morning. we take a live look at san jose and san francisco this morning looking kind of similar this morning and definitely a bit cooler than yesterday, christina. >> you know, yesterday was so hot out there. i know a lot of people were not prepared for that heat and we're not even in summertime just yet. but this is a welcome site at the coast and the fog has returned, kris, this will cool us down by ten degrees and we will see significant cooling as we head throughout the week. nice, mild morning and 63, meanwhile, for mountain view and your temperatures at the coast have dropped off substantially. let me give you an idea of the past 24 hours, you can see we're running seven degrees cooler in

san jose and that might have made getting to sleep last night a little cooler than the previous night. it was baumy out there. better and better in terms of cooling off for the rest of the week. 90 degrees for the east bay and down from 105 degrees in livermore. probably a welcome temperature. 84 degrees in the south bay and 69 degrees in san francisco for today with changes coming your way as we get into father's day weekend. we'll talk about that coming up. right now check your drive traffic tuesday, here's mike inouye. >> the fog being more compressed this morning on the roadways you might see much of an issue. this is our camera in emeryville and we show the span by the bay bridge to the city by the bay and we can't see it right now. you saw the denny's sign and the shell sign iconic through that area and no problem as far as the flow of speed. northbound 880 a little slowing through downtown oakland because

of overnight construction and 24 at the top of your screen westbound and just got reports of a stall and a disabled vehicle and that is an issue, at least for the time being, but quickly getting it moved to the shoulder. i'll check on that. so far no slowing shows up into the oakland side. a smoother drive around the rest of your bay and the north bay construction has picked up coming out of petaluma and down to the golden gate where there is fog and in the south bay, a smooth drive, as well. construction around the 880 and 280 interchange and that's where 880 and 217 and 880 is clear, we'll send it back to you, kris. you mentioned the smoke on the b.a.r.t. train earlier. trains started smoking at the west oakland station late last night. these pictures posted by passengers on twitter. b.a.r.t. says the train did not catch fire and likely stemmed from an engine problem and no one was hurt and all trains back in service shortly after.

they were suddenly attacked by taliban forces. the americans called in an air strike and according to u.s. officials a b1 stealth bomber attack accidentally hit the american forces. a senate committee will hold a closed door hearing to discuss the controversial prisoner exchange for bowe bergdahl. a new research poll shows that the exchange of five taliban detainees for his freedom was the wrong thing to do. it is close, 30% say it was the right thing to do. a briefing yesterday did little to ease their concern. >> i'm concerned with the administration telling 80 or 90 people within the administration and not one member of congress. >> now tomorrow defense secretary chuck hagel is expected to testify. meantime, sergeant bergdahl is recovering at a medical facility

in germany. new this morning, president obama will take part in a live q and a on tumblr about the importance of making college affordable for all students. he will join founder and ceo david carp who will ask him questions submitted by tumblr use users. the event is the first of its kind for the president. comes one day after the president exposed a package of loans designed to make student loan repayment easier. congress is looking at proposed safety rules for truck drivers coming on the weekend that injured tracy morgan and killed one of his friends. despite the crash, lawmakers are getting ready to pass new rules to allow drivers to put in as many as 82 hours a week behind the wheel. the current limit is already either 60 or 70 depending on the kind of company. the driver of the big rig that slammed into morgan's limo over the weekend said he had not slept in more than 24 hours. protesters say they plan to

killing a 19-year-old freshman and wounding three others. he told authorities he planned to kill as many people as possible, but that he is sorry for what happened. according to police records, he has a history of mental health issues. this man is under arrest after a high-speed chase through los angeles. the suspect barricaded himself inside a home leading firefighters to use tear gas. the suspect dangerously weaving through traffic and police tried to pull him over and he refuses and then moments later the man jumps out of his car with an assault rifle and runs through city streets. he even jumped from rooftop to rooftop. police evacuated neighborhoods and locked down nearby schools, but, again, officers were able to force him to surrender peacefully. police say there was a felony warrant out for that man's arrest. a ruling today could be a major game changer for california teachers whose job

security is on the line. a southern california judge is expected to announce his decision this morning regarding teacher tenure. tenure allows for two years of evaluation before a teacher is hired permanently. the judge heard two months of testimony from students who claim the state's tenure's rules keep them from getting a good education. the lawsuit claims the system also makes it almost impossible to fire bad teacher. a warning this morning in the east bay after a scam artist managed to dupe a restaurant owner out of 2,000 bucks. the owner of lettuce restaurant in walnut creek said the scammer called posing as a pg &e. the owner threatened to turn off the restaurant power unless he was wired right away. the choline had on hold music. the take away for you, pg&e says they will never tell anyone to use a third party or only use

let's check with mike inouye. >> good morning, kris. a lot of folks hit the road. 580. look at the maps, no slowing, a little bit of slowing out of the altamont pass looking at a lighter build throughout this week. this is the first week of vacation for a lot of schools in the area and the last week of school for my kids, but lighter traffic flow around the bay evide evident. circled the area where minutes ago i had gotten word that wires were down. carver just off the freeway and sunol road was open and now the incident cleared from our report. any other issues, i'll let you know. 680 has been cleared and not a major problem anyway. the rest of your commute looking good. we have the construction going on and 880 right around the 280 interchange and as you can see here, smooth drive around the bay including the san mateo bridge and you see the glowing lights. now, earlier, just about 20 minutes ago. this was socked in by a fog and
