this demonstrates how committed facebook is to growing its company here on the peninsula. you might recall three years ago when it moved into its headquarters on the location on the bay front the company employed about 2,000 people and now close to 7,000, 4,000 of whom are located at headquarters. when you take into consideration how much room they still have at headquarters and the space they'll have when the west campus is completed next spring social media giant facebook will have enough room for almost 5,000 more employees. reporting live here in menlo park, bob redell. >> we know they're paying for a police officer. they're funding the salary of one police officer, as well. thanks, bob. >> you're welcome. >> didn't mean to interrupt. 6:10 now. still ahead on "today in the bay" do americans support the prisoner swap that was meant to bring home sergeant bowe bergdahl. the results of a new poll out

"today in the bay" danielle joins us live in washington, d.c., and appears the taliban is responsible, once again. >> yeah, kris. that's what it's sounding like. military officials tell us five military troops were killed in this friendly fire incident. one afghan soldier was also killed and that would make this incident one of the worst involving u.s. troops since the war began in afghanistan 14 years ago. what military officials are saying happened is that afghan and nato troops were heading home from a joint exercise. they had had been checking polling places ahead of the upcoming election. that's when they came under attack by the taliban. the soldiers called for air support. when that air support arrived, military officials say that the support bomber accidentally killed these soldiers. that brings the total number of u.s. troops killed in afghanistan this year to 36.
6:32 am
