and a very good morning to you, it's 4:30 right now. i'm laura garcia-cannon on this thursday morning. let's check that forecast with meteor also christina loren. good morning to you. >> we like to call it friday eve around here. so close to that father's day weekend at this point and it is really comfortable out there. now, this morning, some wind to tell you about, especially if you're waking up with us near vallejo or anywhere surrounding the delta. we're dealing with the fierce wind all day long and then the warm up comes in. not too hot, though. first, let's check your drive,

here's mike. >> delta wind stronger than a delta breeze. over here across the bay, we're looking still at glowing lights across that bay bridge. we look at it and see the traffic lights moving very smoothly and we can make out the span. not a problem for visibility, but we'll track this. bay bridge approach and little back up for the cash lanes off to the left and one of the cash lanes and not yet open by 5:00 all open and a clear drive and across the san mateo bridge a little farther to the south, hayward side away from us over to the peninsula and easy flow on bh sides of the bay and new crash in fremont, laura, we'll tell you about that coming up. main route running up and down the east bay after an overnight wreck blocked several lanes. happened just before midnight in the southbound lanes in oakland. it's unclear exactly what happened or how many cars were involved but we do know that one car flipped. the chp issued a sig alert but

lanes have since then cleared and sig alert canceled. everyone is expected to be okay. firefighters spent the night camped out in livermore to make sure the southern brush fire didn't flare up. in a creek bed near a housing development near sunset park. it happened just before 8:00 last night and burned four acres. it was the second time firefighters were called to that area yesterday alone. >> we came earlier for a fire today and we put it out and when we came back to check on it, it was all out. as we left, we noticed that we had a smoke column and we came back and this thing had taken off. >> a lot of people coming out scared about it hopping over. >> investigators still trying to figure out how that fire started. protesters plan to head to stanford today to let the school administration know that they are upset of a student accused of sexual assault is not being expelled. after a five-month investigation the school decided the student is not a threat to the campus

and allow him to finish his senior year. the school administrators will withhold his degrew fe for two years and not enroll in grad school. stanford is dragging its feet. >> walking away from his undergraduate arrear with almost a complete lack of consequence for forcibly another student. >> over the past week hundreds of students rallied behind francis and they're demanding better services for sexual assault victims. police say they are still not sure what caused a deadly car crash in san jose. it happened about 9:00 last night on camden avenue near parma park. investigators say the driver was thrown from the car when it smashed into a tree. no one w no one else was in that car and no other vehicles were involved. they are looking into the driver, only identified as an adult male was drinking or doing

drugs prior to that crash. the man accused of beating and carjacking an elderly woman in elceritto. they took terrance hardy into custody. he is accused of beating a woman in a cvs drugstore parking lot and the woman was treated for broken ribs and collar bone and face injury. her car has not been found. texas governor rick perry drawing criticism today after he compared homosexuality to alcoholism. at a bay area function last night. video of perry, well, not last month. "chronicle" reports that during a q and a portion, perry was asked if he thought there was a cure for homosexuality. he said he didn't know. then he asked whether he thought homosexuality is a disorder. he's quoted in the paper as

saying "whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that." "i may have the genetic coding that i'm inclined to be an alcoholic -- the family of mcmath, the school will give the young girl an honorary eighth grade diploma. technology and arts in oakland will present the diploma to a family member during graduation tomorrow. mcmath was an eighth grader at the school when she underwent tonsil surgery and suffered complications and eventually declared brain dead by doctors. she is now receiving care at an unspecified facility. a south bay developer has come up with alternate plans for san jose's historic dome

theater. federal realty has a lease that allows it to develop around the dome century 21 theater. preserve the building right across from santana row but they would not go into detail. designated that building a city landmark. >> what's so funny over there, christina loren? weather make you that happy. >> good times at that dome theater. i'm happy about that decision. if you live in the south bay, you know the winds were whipping yesterday and today. we'll see more of the same and the good news the wind is coming off the pacific so it's cool ocean air and a nice day today. the one place where the wind is going to be rather strong all day long right by the beach, you're going to find that really strong wind coming out of the west and it will be strong enough to create that blowing dust, blowing sand that we typically see by the beach. travel cautiously out there for today. as we head throughout the afternoon, temperatures jump out

of the 50s and end up in the 70s, even out in the extreme east bay. i have to tell you, this is it. our warming trend begins tomorrow and a little bit of a foggy breeze in san francisco. here's the golden gate bridge. traffic here looks like, but mike knows where it's not so light this morning. let's check in with him. good morning to you. >> good morning. pretty light around the bay and over here this is our camera from emeryville and the clouds drifting in enough to clear up our auto focus. over at the golden gate, the fog not an issue and the low clouds not a problem and a very light volume of traffic. moving those cones in the northbound direction over the next half hour and then we should see the crews flashing lights across the bridge, as well. we'll track that. so far no problems. getting into san francisco, drive across the golden gate and the bay bridges in san francisco right about 101 and 100 block and we'll hear about a police investigation. we have a crew heading out there to check things out and traffic control but it does not affect your on or off ramp approaches

especially 101 that is nearby. the rest of your bay moving very smoothly as far as the traffic flow goes. zoom into the crash we talk about northbound 880 approaching mission boulevard, no major details, however, we have reports of someone involved in that crash being involved and it does sound like it is blocking one lane. heading northbound watch for flashing lights and the indicator that just added to our system and track that as details come in from chp and let you know about lanes blocked. laura, back to you. 4:38 right now. california ride sharing companies have two weeks to stop giving rides to and from airports or they could be shut down. taxis and limo service have special permits that allow them to pick up and drop people off at airports. state regulators say they don't have permission to operate at airports and not complying with rules. they told "the chronicle" it will start randomly auditing to make sure the companies are following regulations.

invasion. they think his corruption linked to its sinking. phoenix police say they got a burgly call just after 9:00 last night when officers arrived they found a priest shot to death. a second priest was also attacked and is in critical condition. it's unclear if he was also shot. one of the victim's cars, which was reported stolen was found nearby. so far, no arrests have been made. new details about the coming ipo by san mateo's go-pro. in the company's latest filing with the sec. go-pro plans to sell almost 18 million shares at about $24 a share. value the company at close to $3 billion. the company is taking care of its employees letting them sell their shares immediately. no word yet on the exact date of that ipo. we'll keep you posted. look at how the rest of the market is doing and let's check

in with seema mody live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, seema. >> good morning, laura. the dow and the s&p posting their worst day in three weeks while the nasdaq had its biggest decline in two. traders point to the world bank and we do get data out on unemployment, retail sales and be sure to watch out for that and the dow dropping 102 points and nasdaq losing six. at&t plans to defend its takeover of directv in a filing with the sec. at&t says the only way the companies can compete with the proposed comcast/time warner merger. the filing says directv is currently unable to offer high-speed internet while they only provide u-verse service in a few markets. and starbucks wants to help you literally recharge your batteries. the coffee change is teaming up with duracell to roll out phone

clouds to develop as we head throughout the morning hours. but you'll notice here your wind is coming up from the south pushing to the north, once again, against our prevailing wind direction and what that means is that fog will clear quickly in san francisco and really nice day out there. albeit cold. lots of sunshine but cool conditions. 60 degrees in san francisco today and 71 for the east shore and 77 in the north bay. father's day weekend coming up and it will be comfortable, both at the beach and inland. really hard to beat. these temperatures this time of year, really, right on track with our seasonal averages both saturday and sunday at 81 degrees and then monday staying nice and the heat cranks tuesday into the end of the week. we'll talk about that, back to you, laura. >> thanks so much, christina. one week from today republicans will vote on who will replace eric cantor as majority leader. the top three in the running two congressman from southern california. canter announced he was stepping down a day after a defeat on

tuesday night. he will step down at the end of july and back the party's number three bakersfield kevin mccarthy to replace him. >> i think he will make an outstanding majority leader. >> let's see what happens. i think we work very well together. >> two texans also in the running, jeb hensstarling. republicans will need a new whip and members are already throwing their hats in for that job. putting together a plan to protect the city from a flood triggered by an earthquake. the earthquake could cause the stevens creek reservoir to fail. knock on doors and ask permission to cut people's cell phone numbers inen to a alert system. the map shows a path of destruction from up in the mountains through town all the way to 280. city leaders say the plan is to send a mass text message to everyone in the alert system if the reservoir ever fails.

first pitch in case you want to go to the game, a day game. this is how rio de janeiro celebrated the eve of the world cup. a light show high above the city the statue flash the team colors of all the nations competing in the world cup. brazil will play croatia later today to open up the month-long soccer tournament. landon donovan will be part of the world cup after all, not in the field, but in the broadcast booth. he made his onair debut with espn. provide analysis before and after the u.s. games and during half-time. the world cup will be an uphill battle for the u.s. national team to say the least. how bad is it? for starters, the group that team usa is in is nicknamed the grou group of death. ghana has eliminated team usa from the last two world cup

february the board endorsed the junior rotc program. but when details of the proposed program got out, a group of people mostly anti-war activists rallied together to oppose it. the meeting was planned to give those opposed to the program a chance to voice their own opinion. >> outrage. there is a lot of conversation about is this the appropriate role of the school district to incorporate military entities into the schools? >> the district will pay $100,000 a year for that program for three years. in the east bay, a mother outraged after her son is reportedly assigned to clean the school bathroom as punishment. magdalen claims her 11-year-old son ended up getting whooping cough because of the punishment. the cleanup was assigned because of a playground bullying
