from nbc bay area this is "today in the bay." >> and good monday morning to you, it is 4:30 a.m., i'm seth -- sam brock. >> let's first say good monday morning and check that forecast. >> hey, good morning to you, new workweek, new forecast, i think you're going to like it. i don't think you're going to have to use your ac at all across the bay area, that's because we're getting that beautiful, natural cooling all the way inland this morning. the dool ocean breeze will bring the ocean air in all day lock. temperatures running about 10 degrees below average for this time of year.

that means 71 for the suite bay, 74 in the east bay and just 59 degrees. that's it for today out in san francisco. we are going to warm up and warm up rapidly. right thousand though, we gave mike the day off, he's sick unfortunately. we miss you, but we're going to cover traffic, double duty this morning. all is clear right now in terms of accidents. no major problems right now. there's a little construction. we'll tell you about that and i have a great detour in a bit. right now back to you with the top stories of the day. new this morning, investigators looking through two burned homes in san francisco this morning trying to figure out what caused them to go up in flames overnight. fire started outside the front door, the second story home and quickly spread to a neighboring building. fur people are evacuated and getting help from the red cross and people were treated for minor injuries. crews had to call for backup and were able to put out the flames in 20 minutes. the homes located in the amazon

neighborhood near interstate 280. investigators have not figured out how the fire started and say it is suspicious. now to a developing story, dozens of extremists with automatic weapons, in fact small kenyan for hours. sprayed bullets into the streets. this all started last night around 8:00 as people watched world cup matches on tv. it lasted through the night and now bodies are still being collected from neighborhoods. at least 48 people died. more than 25 were hurt. pakistan, few hours away from the country's board we are somalia where kenya has troops clashing with al qaeda-linked militants. ten militants were killed today, this in that country. the latest in a full-scale military operation launched yesterday to drive militants out of the region. the operation was launched just days after insurgents attacked the country's biggest arnt last

week. the prime minister is expected to address the nation later today. also developing this morning, al qaeda-linked militants have captured another town as they try to take over iraq. the town of televon fell just before dawn. 250 mimes north of baghdad. the residents confirmed its capture. militants from the islamic state of iraq are known as icl. video from iraq's defense minister released yesterday reportedly showed aerial assaults north of baghdad. defense ministry statement said cachets were destroyed in a large number. additional military personnel have been sent to protect the u.s. embassy and employees have been moved to more stable areas. three u.s. ships are waiting for instruction in the persian gulf. secretary of state john kerry is calling for allies in the region

to play. republicans blame president obama. >> this administration from secretary clinton to president obama has repeatedly understatemented -- estimated the threats by america. we need air power immediately to stop the advance towards baghdad. >> president obama is leaving southern california this morning in the men time to head back to washington to figure out how to stop the crisis in iraq. the white house said president obama got several updates. he's been staying with friends and family in the springs palm area. surveillance and gathering and strikes using drones or aircraft. spain says police there have arrested eight people who recruited fighters for the isis. a person who lives in spain but previously been jailed in guantanamo bay after being arrested in afghanistan in 2001. we'll bring you updates on this

developing situation in iraq all morning long. any time we are not on air, go to our website, nbcbayarea.com. two people including a teenager are accused of killing a south bay man in a case of road rage. the 17-year-old and 23-year-old killed a man at the intersection of center and talla. police just released the information last night. investigators say the two suspects got into a car crash just blocks from his home. when he got out to talk the suspects, they reportedly shot him several times. earlier this month, we talked to the victim's wife about the shooting. >> wants people to know that her husband was a good husband, good father. he's the only breadwinner in the family. he's the one that brings in the financial support for the entire family. >> police do not think he knew the suspects. the santa clara dlikt attorney's office plans to charge the

17-year-old as an adult. unsettling news from the peninsula. investigators are looking into what killed a man who was found dead inside of his stanford dorm. he was found in a building on mayfield avenue on the stanford campus. now according to the mercury news, someone dimed 911 when they found this man unconscious. he was declared dead at the scene. it is unclear whether he lived in the dorm or was visiting. investigators have not released the isolate and are working to determine the cause of death. two people wanted for pistol-whipping a man in san francisco are on the loose. yesterday morning the two men walked up to the man who just parked his car not far from south san francisco's caltrans station. the man told police the men were wearing masks and armed with shotguns and pistols. the men reportedly bashed him in the head with the head of a handgun. the victim was in the back seat of the car when he came to. 14 of the 16 people that were picked up in a wide

reaching bay area gang sweep may be entering pleas in court today. the suspected gang members faced numerous serious charges including murders in east palo alto and east san francisco. accused of attempted robbery, gun running, and gun offenses. some date back to 2012. an 18 month long investigation including wiretaps and 80 search warrants. happening right now, crews in central california placed themselves between a small community near bakersfield and a wild fire that has been burning out of control since friday. nearly 500 homes near wooled for heights have been evacuated. it is wedged between lake isabella and the fire. it started on friday, its burned more than 2,000 acres of land. only 10% contained this morning. it has burned two buildings and threatening hundreds of others. firefighters in the bay area have been kept on their toes too as small fires broke out all

teenagers. the home belongs to a family known for its ties to the palestinian islamist group hamas. militants are accused of kidnapping the teenagers last thursday. one of the teens is reportedly an israeli-american citizen. the army spent much of the night doing door to door searches. arresting 80 palestinians overnight. russia cut gas supplies to ukraine this morning. overnight a payment deadline passed and negotiators failed to reach a deal on gas prices and unpaid bills amid fighting in eastern ukraine. the decision does not affect the gas flow to europe, but it could disrupt the energy supply to the region if the issue is not resolved. somber ceremony will mark the 150th anniversary of arlg ton national ceremony today. the site was designated a military cemetery on june 15th, 1864. politicians and other lead lers take part in a wreath-laying

ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldier a little bit later this morning. state budget is on its way to governor brown's desk this morning after it was passed by the assembly and it senate just hours before the deadline. the $108 billion budgets was passed mostly along party lines. calls for programs supporting preschool, home care givers, and well favor to work grants as well as using 25% of cap and trade revenue for the controversial high speed rail program. also paying down state's debts and building up a fund. senate president steinberg says it's a turn around from what seems like an ir surmountable debt. >> nothing is ever perfect, we're a nation state hereafter all, but we're in better shape than we were several years ago. >> assembly member richard gordon was happy to cast his vote in support of the budget which also includes the self-generating incentive

program. that will attract investment, innovation, and green jobs here in california. the uncertainty in iraq is driving down the narcotics for that and the rest of the news before the bell. we are live in world headquarters, good morning, jackie. >> good morning to you, sam, we are watching the futures here pointing to a lower open on "wake up with al" street as investors continues to focus their attention on iraq. we saw the dow snapping a three-week win streak. oil prices of course are in focus too, they rose 4% last week partly on the iraq needs. above $107 a barrel today. meantime we get economic data on manufacturing and housing and traders are also going to be watching the fed which kicks off a two-day meeting tomorrow. the dow rose 41 points on friday but fell nearly 1% for the week. its worse since april. nasdaq closing 14 points on friday. target saying that a glitch in fits checkout system is not

as you know, that time of year where we really, really have it well off for the state of california. southern california gets really hot this time of year. we don't get that hot, we'll see a couple heat waves, even the one we have coming our way this week though. not that impressive. mid-90s at best, drop you off wednesday. peak, dropping you through the weekend. for today, much cooler than average. really beautiful day coming your way, bay area. we're going to get the low clouds, settling in all day long. mix of sun and clouds by about 11:00 a.m., then the entire bay area will clear out of here by about lunchtime. cool, ocean breeze will persist. that'll keep us comfortable later on this evening. i hope the dads had a fantastic father's day. temperatures like this, 73 degrees for the peninsula. 71 on the south bay, and 59 degrees in san francisco today. you will need your jacket, of course you're in the bay area, you get all that variety when it comes to our microclimate. let's talk about the difference throughout the week between san

mississippi, because her facial injuries disturbed other customers. kfc will give $30,000 to the girl to use towards medical bills. >> i hope she's doing okay. a pilot who typically flies sky divers fgs forced to make his jump out of necessity. he was on his fourth run of the day, nearly 12,000 feet above the air when the ground i should say when the trouble started near the missouri-illinois border. he says the last sky diver to jump from his plane damaged a piece that controls the aircraft's ability to go up and down. for the next ten minutes, he fought to com the zest in a as he tried to make it back to the airport. herlsed hafs not going to happen, he decided to bail. luckily already wearing a parachute thanks to company policy. >> i jumped out of the aircraft, it was at 2,000 feet. i only had 1,500 feet left to the ground. when i jumped out, the plane spiralled and crashed. the wind carried me and i landed
