[ speaking spanish ] >> thank you all for being here. whenever you play in this venue, it always sells out. why do you think people want to come to see you here? >> well, i think the people have the money to pay for mariachi.

yeah. i don't know. the music is mexico. the tradition. we are very excited to be here every year. >> you tell us, you're going to respond to us in spanish but tell us what it makes you feel like to play with this group of men who have a history behind this band. [ speaking spanish ] >> and you have been -- you were on my show when you were in san jose about 15 years ago. i recognize a couple of you who were also on that show. people come and go, is that right, from this mar yaiachimar. what is that like when you lose

someone but gain someone in return. >> the people stay here for a long, long time. 20, 40, 50 years. so what we need a new member, a new message, there's a casting, we hear the music, the violin of the singer, so it's a change several times for inspecting a new musician. >> if you want a new violinist how many people are in line to become that violinist? >> you want to see outside? >> it's a long line. >> so many people are waiting for a place over here. >> what is it made you say, i want to be a part of them? >> what do you say? there are 13 of you guys. are there fights when you're on the plane or bus traveling? what happens on the bus? >> no fighting. laughing. we are singing. because we sleep together -- well separate. >> separate but together. >> we performing together. we're traveling together. sometimes it's a little bit of stress, but no, we're laughing all the time. >> is it a brotherhood? [ speaking spanish ] ? >> yeah. >> okay. >> sometimes. >> sometimes. >> in the traveling, does it get tiring when you're traveling? you were in southern california

and now northern northern california, might be going back to mexico. does that get tiring for you? [ speaking spanish ]does that g? [ speaking spanish ] you've played all over the world. what's your favorite q. [ speaking spanish ] is it cash creek? what's your favorite place? >> mariachi belongs to all the world. we feel great playing in japan and czech republic and spain. south america. mar ranyach chi belongs to the

>> this afternoon we went to a chinese food restaurant in america. >> when eating a taco at the taco in mexico and a taco here, does it taste the same? doesn't taste the same? >> we want to taste different food. >> does -- when the crowd -- when you see them cheering and clapping and applauding, does that make you sing better, play better? [ speaking spanish ] [ speaking spanish ] >> what is it that has kept the mariachi together for more than 100 years? i know that it's not the same guys who were there 100 years ago. what is it that keeps your

brand, the mariachi? what keeps this going for generations three or four generations? >> wow. >> i think the tradition and the music, long, long time mariachi playing every time, so people like the songs, boleros, so there's many things that people like to come to see every time vg, every year to the same place like this casino, it's great for that. >> you play the harp? >> yes. >> when you play the harp is there one specific song you like more or something like that? >> that's right. the kaskavale. when i play solo, people clapping and standing ovation. it was very way for me for people like that to have music.

[ speaking spanish ]

>> so you were with the same artistic director for a long time. what is it like to transition to a new artistic director with the mariachi. >> well, different style. it was a great arrangement, great person, great musician, so for a long time so we are expecting new arrangements, new music for us, so we're expecting the response of the people for us. i think we'll be a great response about the music. it's a great music.
