us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm scott mcgrew, believe it or waking up with wet weather this morning. live look at san francisco and san jose. south bay saw some downpours last night. we'll check in with christina with our microclimate forecast, good morning. >> good morning, we are in a drought, we are telling you how much we need the rain, and this is very unusual. we'll take every single drop in the buskt we can accumulate. we are now in the dry season, it's very unusual to see the shower activity we had this morning. as we head throughout the hours, it is going to wind down. decrease nb clouds, but comfortable temperatures out there today in the mid-70s for most of your inland valley spots. meanwhile, the 60s out in the east bay for today. we're going to keep that drizzle count going for you. if you're waking up in san francisco, the good news is, temperatures are going to be comfortable through saturday and then they sore. this is for the east shore. i'll let you know whose expecting the triple digits coming up, right now back to you and the rest of the top stories in the bay. shooter is on the loose in

san francisco hours after police say he opened fire outside a busy store. investigators say two men were arguing outside a t.j. maxx near the intersection of harrison and fourth street last night. the fire spilled outside and one of the men shot the other in the stomach, then took off. the victim was taken to san francisco general hospital. no word on his condition this morning. the search is on for the driver of a black sedan who hit someone overnight in the south bay. the area of four oaks road in san jose was blocked for a while while crews date withed the hit-and-run. happened at 10:00 last night. the victim was taken to the hospital. investigators told us the victim had life-threatening injuries, now we're told he or she should survive. look that the, workers at a nail salon in san jose will spend the morning cleaning up after a car crashed through the front door. as you can see, the car went straight through the front of

endless beauty salon. it happened at lunde avenue. not sthold why the driver crashed into the building, no one was hurt. just under 30 minutes, san mateo based go-pro will ring the bell on the nasdaq. now look at the video shot this morning, behind the scenes look at two anchors getting ready very early in the morning. the tiny video camera known for shooting in hd, easy to move, gets great video. they have a cold following with outdoor enthusiasts. gopro will trade on the nasdaq under the symbol gpro. shares will start trade agent $24 after priced at the high end of the range last night. and at that offering, price gopro's worth $3 billion. last year the company generated nearly a billion dollars in revenue selling its cameras. here's the guy boointd gopro, nick goodman subpoena goproing himself as he accepting an award

a couple years ago. woodman, an avid sportsman grew up in santa cruz, graduated from ucsd and formed gopro with college classmates. it's going to be up to investors to see if they think it's worth a future or a flash in the pants. very hard to predict. things get cheaper, more common. at one point, they bought flip video, they don't exist anymore. >> well let's hope they do well. 6:04 right now, time to check the forecast as we take a peek outside this morning, san mateo bridge, traffic's moving smoothly. overhead cloud there this morning. little moisture in the air. wetness on the roads as well, let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> looks like a fall morning out there. but we are in summer time at this point. typically in the summer months, any sort of precipitation we get is coming from monsoonal moisture, but this time, this is actually a true form area of low pressure, originated near the

gulf of alaska, and what's left of it is slowly making its way out of the bay area. nonetheless, we're going to get a reinforcing shots of good air quality out of this and some really comfortable temperatures that are going to stick around for the next few days. so as we get into your afternoon today, this is what you can expect. 77 degrees in the south bay, 77 from the east bay, and 63 degrees in san francisco. at&t park, another giant game tonight. they needed that no-hitter from timmy yesterday. as we go through the evening, chilly and bleezy out there, if you can't make it to the game, catch it right here on nbc bay area. i'll let you know what kind of weather they'll play through tonight, it'll make an impact. that's coming up. let's check your drive and welcome in mike inouye. thank you christina. we talked the rain having hit overnight. live look, first we're dealing with a burst of traffic. this is a pretty calm build right now as you're traveling north from 280 up 101 through all the headlights. from time to time, we see that burst hit and we'll look at the

sensors through the area, we'll see a slower drive with the orange just north of 680, very short stretch, and again you saw the the live shot, it ebbs and flows over the area. i don't know which is which, it gets slower and faster. traveling south, south of san jose, travel through gilroy, we have the southbound side of the freeway blocked. highway 101 is basically, well close to most of the traffic slow there. rerouting folks around on the shoulder it sounds like just south of 152. that's far south for most of the viewers, nonetheless if you're heading into the area, be advised that is an issue. overturned big rig, no major injuries, but we have a lot of issues right there for local traffic in gilroy. over here the rest of the transit status is looking good. we're talking about the roads and the rails for bart, transit, cal train, and vta. no delays reported. the rest of the bay, pick your path, it's a lighter build for what we call the summer commute because schools are off for summer vacation for the most part. and we're looking at a nice easy drive out of the north bay and

yesterday jurors heard from two men convicted in the sult, but they -- assault, but they declined to answer questions. the dodgers did not provide enough security to keep giant's fans bryan stow safe. it took more than a day for investigators to arrest an arson suspect once they released his picture to the public. he was wanted for setting more than a dozen fires at construction sites and buildings in the south of market neighborhood in san francisco. in about 15 minutes, san mateo's goemployee ring the opening bell on the nasdaq, launch its first day of trading shares, shares starting at $24, high end of its range last night. 6:11, millions of americans counting on the clouds to clear above brazil so they can watch team usa take on germany in a critical matchup. right now referees are inspecting the pitch to make sure it's not too water logged after heavy rain in the area. >> soccer fans in san jose are hopeful and getting ready for

you're watching him on screen, like that's my buddy, i played with him. >> for me, i think he represents just a person that's really, just worked to get where he is at. i mean i have a few friends that have done that, jimmy conrad, but chris is a guy that kind of came from nowhere, and he's a great example, i use him all the time when i'm talking to little kids about how hard work really pays off. even at older ages. >> reporter: against germany, huge obviously, a lot of people packed here at this party, other watch parties. you were at civic center plaza last sunday. tell me about how that was, the fever. >> it was a little subdued to begin because portugal scored early. it seems like whenever i try to go and celebrate these world cup games, that tends to happen with the u.s. i remember in ghana, i was up in san francisco four years as well in a bar and they scored early and it kind of fell. once the u.s. gets a goal, it's great to see and great to see the national pride that comes

without these games. >> reporter: and that's grown a lot. talk to me about how you've seen the transformation of the popularity of watch parties and people with the football fever. >> yeah, i think you're right at one of the places that started it. in 20022002 when they made their run, we had a local guy here now landon donovan who is a big name and people were following him. it's pretty much grown ever since. i think, you know, it will grow and grow and we'll see it reach its peek when we get it in the prime time if the u.s. ever comes to host the world cup. it's amazing. the combination of the popularity of the game, the nationaler inner have, as well as the world cup itself really brings people out. >> reporter: and i know that locally the earthquakes hoping to bring that fever home, right? i mean we have the stadium, the new one opening up in narge of next year. what's the thought there about maybe translating the world cup fever into local fever? >> i think they did a good job of putting one of the bigger games a against the galaxy on stanford. we'll get over 40, 50,000 for

bay area this late in june and the good news is, the area of low sprsh going to keep temperatures cooled not just today, not just tomorrow, all the way through the first part of your weekend and high pressure builds in quickly and it is going to bring your temperatures way up. so enskbroi the 70s while they last for the next few days. you can see where the rainfall is coming through right now. a place where they desperately need it. fresno right now on your wake to -- way to paging up a quarter inch of precipitation. so that's great news as you know with hot weather comes fire danger. and that's what we're watching for next week. this morning though, hillsides will be able to stay nice and moist with the strong onshore flow. look at san jose, ipts to show you the beautiful start over the san francisco bay, yes, cue the tanker. you can see ae gorgeous, gornls sunrise shaping up here and plenty of low dlouds go around, as a result, it's going to be cool in the city for today. you're only going to jump out of the 50s and low 60s in the city up to about 63 degrees today. so not much a stretch for you.

77 meanwhile extreme east bay, 77 in the south bay as well. then the changes come in as we head throughout sunday and monday. 89 degrees in the south baby monday, it's going to be hot in tri-valley with temperatures close to the triple digits. and actually bipassing those triples out in antioch by monday into tuesday. here's the deal, we stay hot all the way through friday. so enjoy the these temperatures while they last. 70s for the next couple days at least, mike, over to you. >> all right. we love this. as far as the temperature goes, i like them too. we know about this the, the bay bridge metering lights on are on. i see the movement than means it's not completely stopped in as far as the traffic coming off the maize, but it is slowing down off the berkeley curve. we'll look over at san mateo bridge. also your commute direction at the smooth drive, the sign lit up, i'm reminding folks it reminding you about the closure in san francisco the last extension up towards kings street.

over the fourth of july weekend, we'll remind you. don't worry, look at the maps, between the bridges, the maps will show you that traffic season flowing smoothly for oakland as well as on the planes side. no major concerns. south 880 builds through hayward, down through fremont where we have a slower drive now, developing and a crash right around automall parkway which is showing slowing on the northbound side. that's the side with the crash, but everything sounds like it's moved over to the so you recalled and your commute southbound is distracted by the activity. northbound 10 1d slows a little bit. north of 680, kicking in now, but a gentle build for 280 at 85 and 87. rest of your bay, pretty smooth drive here. golden gate bridge moves nicely. there is fog, be careful as you're coming across to or from the update. monterrey street, 101 at monterrey street should reopen at 6:45. out of the area for most of the viewers, back to you. it is 6:21, still ahead on

"today in the bay's" nannette miranda joins us live at oakland's iowauation museum where the plane takes off in just a few hours, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. and people are already starting to gather here. in fact, i already spoke to somebody who saw amelia earhart in 1937 take off here. so he's here too and just the excitement is building. of course we have here amelia rose earhart who will be taking this journey. how do you feel, what do you do to prepare? >> i sure am excited. i've been planning for about year and a half. we put an extra fuel tank on bod board and we're ready to go. we arrived yesterday here in oakland and we're departing to kevin to kick off the flight. >> reporter: awesome, i think because of your name, you were destined to do this trip, right? >> yeah, you could say. i'm not related to amelia, but my dad's last night gave my parents a cool opportunity to

"today in the bay's" tracy potts joins us now from washington, d.c., good morning, tracy. >> reporter: laura, good

morning, boehner says the president is supposed to carry out the laws that congress passes, not change them. remember back in january, the state of the union, president obama said to get around the dysfunction here on capitol hill, there were some things he could do by executive order, and he did that. boehner now says it was unconstitutional and wants to take the president and his administration to court. democrats on capitol hill led by nancy pelosi of the bay area says it's nothing much more than a tantrum she says from see do-nothing congress. the white house says they're not worried and they're not going to sfend a lot of time on it. that the president was doing his job and they don't think the tax payers will support this. now going forward, what we don't know is what particular order will this lawsuit target? health care, the president had to change the dates there after they were written into the law, immigration, same-sex marriage, family leave has been extended to same-sex couples, the minimum wage which is president changed by executive order by federal

contractors. what we do know, they'll vote next month. that's what john boehner says he's going to bring it up far vote to move forward. >> bring it up for a vote, big list as well, thanks tracy. big changes could come no neighborhood airports. neighborhoods around them. the government wants to dramatically lower the height of buildings near airports around the country. the faa hopes doing so will make flight paths safer in case a plane loses power in one engine during takeoff. airlines that fly in and out of the airport have cut back on the number of passengers and cargo so the planes can clear san jose's building if they lose an engine. investigators lookinged into missing malaysian plane are confident the plane was flying on autopilot until it ran out of fuel and crashed. that same data led investigators to shift the search for the plane further south of the most recent suspected crash site in a remote stretch of the indian ocean. the new search area is based on fresh analysis of existing

have flight delays. check ahead if you're trying to get out of san francisco this morning or you're going to pick somebody up out there. at this point, the running at about an hour. we'll keep you updated on that. 6:33, live look at your doppler radar which has been activated for good reason this morning. this is a shower activity that rolled through earlier, and i set this back three hours for you. and i can tell you, the showers came through quickly as a result. we are going to get a reinforcing shot of cool air, clean air, and this is what you're waking up with this morning my friend in san jose. overcast start and our hillsides will remain nice and moist. courtesy of the area of low pressure. meanwhile san francisco, just spectacular here. you can vividly see the low ceilings. choppy out on the bay as a result, but as that system starts to move out of here, we're going to see a more stable atmosphere develop, and as a result, why were temperatures are going to be comfortable. looking at sunshine through later on today. 61 right now in the south bay. it's mild out there to start. you might to want grab a light

jacket fb you're headed out towards san francisco, just 63 degrees and that windchill factor is going to make it feel even cooler. now the giants are back at it tonight, they're taking on the reds. you can catch that right here on nbc bay area at 7:00. action starts, but i want to talk about the weather tonight. 56 degrees, that's a cold temperature for a game at at&t park in june, also wind likely playing a factor. you're going to see the flags blowing out towards center field. that could get interesting. through the weekend, still in town and temperatures will be comfortable for a ball game. next week, the heat cranks, we're going to talk about that in my next report. right now mike, what's he tracking on a thursday? we're tracking a bifld traffic. nothing really dramatic. i have key points to point out. let's look outside, we show you all over the bay, pretty typical pattern as far as the speed sensors go. we'll call our slower spots and update first of all for folks down through gilroy, not a lot,

but wanted to let you know the overturned big rig should be cleared in about 15 minutes or so. all of the southbound lanes were closed, all morning basically and no major injuries and south 162. nonetheless, head up. southbound 880 through fremont out of the union city. slower drive develops, partially distracted by the crash on the northbound side. and another crash at stephenson, automall cleared the roadways, stephenson still in the fast lane. that's the distraction on the freeway. smooth drive southbound 680. out of the tri-valley. 5080, no surprises. there's a stall 680 right by where it says dublin, it's out of lane. another stall at the coliseum, doesn't present a problem right now. it's westbound 980 as you approach that interchange. watch for a car, fender bender actually and one car still in lanes. bay bridge toll plaza shows you well yeah, it's a full deck

meanwhile, 680 moves smoothly. and west 580 of course out of livermore. the south bay shows a typical pattern here as well. south 880 slows, two of them, automall and distracting the southbound side. that's starting to sort itself out. moves to the shoulder, there's san jose north 101 slows up toward 680. same thing for 2080. live look at the volume of traffic and you do see you have thank you slowing from aboutle toly up to alan rock. that's the worst it, back to you. nike just a few hours, local leaders will hold a conference to talk about how to pay for a new suicide barrier to be installed. state senator mark leno will be joined by mental health professionals to present more information about putting a barrier on the bridge. so far, $76 million has been set aside to build that barrier and transportation board will vote on it tomorrow. there's been some opposition to the proposal because some think

it's too expensive, too hard to install, could be an eyesore. people who live in an apartment complex nor san francisco hope someone will help them find the man whose been stealing their mail. this video was sent to us by resident of that complex, in it, you can see a man tearing up the mailbox with a crowbar and taking everyone's mail. took him about three minutes to get in and out. people who live there say they've experienced mail thefts mistimes before. packages started disappearing around christmas and since then, the mail has been stolen three times. it took more than a day for investigators to catch up with an arson suspect once they released his picture to the public. we showed you this picture yesterday of the suspect. he was wanted for setting more than a dozen fires at construction sites and buildings in the south market neighborhood in san francisco. the man was arrested yesterday. investigators expected to release more information, including name and about his arrest today. investigators are looking into cause of a fire at stanford's linear accelerator.

started late last night on sanford property in menlo park. crews briefly shut down the freeway in both directions because of thick smoke. when they arrived, they de-energized the accelerator and used special carbon monoxide to put the fire out. it appears it started in a large electrical switching cabinet. no one was hurt, and crews say there was no threat to the public. new morning, san francisco bay sales force will fill announcing they're teaming up to advance the health care industry. two companies plan to develop a cloud platform designed to keep eyes on patients at home. it'll allow to see if patients are sticking to their treatment but keeping data from apps. patients will log their health information and wearable devices. data fed into the cloud for doctors to examine. 6:54 after nearly a week, a water leak in the willow glenn neighborhood has been capped. crews for the san hooez water
