june 14th. the extremist groups isis claimed to have killed the men days later and indeed satellite images approve it. the number of dead could in fact be much higher. 6:01, new this morning, investigators on the hunt for a gunman in berkeley. police called just before 10:00 last night. the victim only identified as the 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition this morning. it's unclear what led to that shooting. a man is in critical condition this morning after walking into a san jose hospital with a gunshot wound. police think he was shot near capitol park between capitol expressway and interstate 680. the shooter is still on the loose. the circumstances around that shooting are still under investigation. golden gate bridge officials will vote on whether to move forward with plans for suicide barrier on the bridge. a live look here at the bridge. some people worry it might lose

its beauty if that plan is approved. nannette miranda live near the bridge with this very crucial vote, nannette, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the golden gate bridge directors are poised to approve to spend $20 million for a steel cable net to the hang beneath the span. it's the local share of the $76 million project that already includes funding from the state and federal government. if approved, this would be a major step in the decades long debate over whether suicide barriers should be put up or not. >> beautiful. >> reporter: friends and family members of suicide victims believe they would help while opponents say the net won't prevent people from finding other ways of taking their lives on the bridge. it opened in 1937, more than 1400 people have leapt to their death including a record 46 suicides last year. the barriers are supposed to save lives.

kevin heinz survived his jump. he's been pushing for this day. >> beautiful, majestic, but a harbinger of death it'll no longer be. with the allocation of these funds by all of you to raise the net at the golden gate bridge, we are putting a stop to 77 years of needless death and survivor family devastation. >> reporter: sacramento lawmakers approved the state share a couple weeks ago saying the bridge is a boll of beauty and grace and should no longer be associated with suicide. suicide barriers have apparently worked on many bridges around the world with today's proovl, the barriers should be in place here by around the year 2018. nannette miranda, for "today in the bay." >> okay nannette, thank you.

6:30, investigators want you to look at this surveillance video. it's compelling as well. trying to find that man. he's seen throwing bottles of liquor at a clerk in san jose. the clerk fought back going after the suspect with a garden tool. but the attacker ended upbeating the clerk to the ground. that's when a customer stepped in and pulled the attacker off. but that man got away. investigators say the clerk only suffered miner injuries. this morning repair crews will be out in san francisco trying to fix part of the road after a water main burst. happened yesterday morning. flooding parts of bryant and alameda streets. large pool of water. it's now dry, other debris was cleaned up. water officials say the road will be partially closed during the repairs, but they don't expect any major impact on traffic. the pipe burst while crews were pressure testing line used by firefighters during emergency. 6:40, san francisco getting ready for the hundreds of thousands to come to this year's

gay pride celebrations. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang joins us live at pier 54 with the events that are happening this weekend, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. you know we were just talking about how tech companies are more involved in the floats in the parades. we were on google's last time. now i'm matching the facebook float on sunday. i'm joined by one of the builders, you have less than 48 hours really to put this together. bree, good morning. >> good morning. >> reporter: so tell me about, there seems to be more tech companies, we have google next to us here. >> yes, definitely more tech companies this year. the more support we have the better in making pride prideful. that's what's important. the bigger the better for us. facebook's huge, it's amazing. >> reporter: big names. i know insided is where you start the floats, right, talk to me about the process. i mean you guys were hired to do 23 of them. that's tall order. >> yeah, it's a tall order, largest order we've ever had.

we start inside, builded from a flat bed up and everything you see is hand crafted and sculpted by our wonderful artists here. it takes a week to two weeks per float. we go to the last second. >> reporter: people can't really see probably, but you have point in your -- paint in your hair, drill in one hand. this is intense work. >> yeah, it doesn't stop. you put a little glitteren to and it makes the worthwhile. i have a skunk streak, but i'm full of glitter so i'm happy. >> emily is saying it's magical. glitter everywhere. >> we're fairies. >> reporter: lastly, you know this looks like a lot of dedicated work. how many floats do you have left and are you going to make it? >> of course we're going to make it. we're pulling through by the skin of our teeth, but not really, we know what we're doing. we're experienced. we have about two left to go. >> reporter: perfect, then you'll be watching the floats. >> of course, we'll be making sure nothing falls apart, standing there with our drills and working away.

>> reporter: thank you so much, bree. now we to want talk more about this year's theme. it's color our world with pride. organizers say this is the largest lgbt gathering in the u.s. and making it extra special for people involved is that we just hit the one year anniversary yesterday of the u.s. supreme court's decision to strike down both prop 8 and defensive marriage act. now, there's a lot going on, tomorrow morning, check out the video we have. starting at 7:00 in the morning, you will see volunteers up top the twin peaks installing more than 175 bright pink canvass and thousands of pink spikes. it can be seen from 20 miles away. then 5:30 tomorrow night, it's the pink party. try to avoid the area driving through anyway. area businesses shut down, hundreds, thousands of people pour in to party all night long. and finally of course success sunday morning's parade starting on market from biel to ace, then you have civic center plaza saturday and sunday. a lot of activities going on.

doors right now, showing you foggy san francisco. and i can tell you, temperatures out there right now, mostly in the 50s. as we get into this afternoon, it's going to be comfortable. we're not going to see a dramatic temperature spread for today. but we will in just a matter of 72 hours. keep that in mind. we're going to heat you up quickly. temperatures mostly in the 50s, good looking day shaping up. what you will notice about today, the weather story is because of the area of low pressure that brought us the shower activity yesterday came through. we're going stay nice and cool. it's going to take a couple of days to mix out of the bay area. as a result, these are your highs for today. 79 in the south bay, cooler than average by about five degrees, 77 for the pence last and 68 degrees today in san francisco. 82 degrees meanwhile in the north bay. 72 straight at room temperature in the east shore. really comfortable conditions out thereto in oak town today and nice day shaping up in the tri-valley as well. not too hot just yet. things are going to change. i want to the give you a preview

you're watching "today in the bay." >> welcome back now, and it welcome to friday. temperatures staying todayy is with warmer than yesterday. i have to tell you, we are going to see that heat really strengthen as we get into your weekend. i'll details the changes for your microclimate and give you tips on how you can keep cool in just moments. and we're looking at san jose it's cool for the drive right here. northbound 101 not heating up a lot, but slower spots. we'll show you 101 and give you the update on the crash for highway 17 coming up. and here are aide today's top stories. the group that manages o.co will vote on whether to keep the a's there for another ten years. the deal reportedly includes an outclause in case they are allowed to move to san jose. trade in economic pact with the eu saying it may be the most important day for his country

since it became independent from the former soviet union. in the men time this morning, the eu decided not to impose anymore sanctions against russia for med national league ukraine. a los angeles jury could decide whether the dodgers are responsible for the beating of bryan stow. he is left with brain damage, he'll need around the clock care forever. a judge could decide whether to unseal grand jury transcripts in the case against a man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. lucero benitez is on in san jose, and lucero, people want to see what's in the transcripts. >> reporter: that's right, good morning, laura. a lot of people hoping to know what's in those transcripts. all we know at this point is that there bha new evidence revealed, but a superior court judge from santa clara county

ordered those transcripts to be sealed. and so this morning, there could be a decision whether or not those transcripts would be unsealed and then they can move forward with the trial date. it's a very important day for sierra lamar's family and they're hoping the case will step a take forward. he is accused of kidnapping and killing the 15-year-old girl in 2012. sierra vanished march 16 of 2012 as she was walking to the bus stop in morgan hill. garcia torres was linked when his dna was found on articles of sierra's clothing which was found two days after being disappeared in a field near her home in her bag. her dna was found in the suspect's car. in february he was indicted by a grand jury and faces charges involving three other women dating back to 2009. he pled not guilty to all the charges including the kidnapping and murder of sierra. may, the district attorney

880, nice drive past the coliseum. easy flow all the way in through downtown with no delays. bay bridge toll plaza has been delayed because metering lights have been on. fast track lanes are moving well. we see the backup only shy on the left approach for the curve is showing slowing on the approach as well. now other shots like the north bay. look at contrast. no problems, well-lit roadways southbound and towards lincoln. easy drive at the limit through san rafael, you dough have to contend with low clouds, little fog across the north side of the bridge, into the city, south of the tunnel, no problems getting into the city by the bay. keep in mind, back to you guys. it is 6:20, still ahead on "today in the bay." bay area native taking his basketball skills to the sunshine state. rare genetic disorder is forcing this young man to hang up a his jersey, but there's a touching tribute from the nba. let's take a peek,000 morning. can you make it out? city by the bay, san francisco this morning.

what we're tracking in the newsroom about that as well. live look at the opening bell this morning on wall street. there it is. capping off the workweek, today is friday june 27th, this is "today in the bay." maybe get a little arts and craftsy with michaels. from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." rock, paper, scissors, who wears the big ball. i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. immigration reform stalled one year ago today a group of lawmakers came up with what they thought would be a grand compromise on immigration. so far, its gone nowhere. tracy potts joins us live. despite part sin bill could be dead altogether. >> reporter: that's what we're hearing laura. a year ago there was a lot of hope, a year later here's where we are, congress that's binding down, they have six months, really just a few weeks to work and not the will or the passion

here that we saw a year ago. democrats and republicans privately and publicly are now saying it just doesn't look like it's going to happen. the key seemed to be for some eric cantor's loss. when eric cantor agreed to compromise to some degree on immigration then his challengers used that against him and a challenger that many didn't know ended up beating the majority leader. that scared off a lot of republicans from dealing with immigration. sop with the little time they have left, it looks like this is not going to happen. so where do we go from here? the obama administration is asking homeland zourt look into what they can do administratively. yes, president east taking a lot of heat for those executive orders but may be looking into doing it again when it comes to work permits or slowing the pace of deportations from this country. >> tracy potts, live from washington, thank you. meanwhile president obama wants to strengthen moderate syrian rebels.

the president asking congress for a half a billion to create a pentagon run program to essentially train and argument syrian opposition. his request comes as conflict in syria and iraq are becoming increasingly intertwined against the same sunni extremist group. new video shows the aftermath of a gas pipeline explosion in india. in the video you can see flames shooting into the sky taller than nearby trees and homes. 13 people were killed in the blast. the pipe lynn runs through a small village surrounding areas had to be evacuated. the cause of that blast is under investigation. it's still unclear how the u.s. supreme court ruling against buffer zones around the boston clinics are going to affect those. yesterday the nation's highest court shot down a massachusetts law requires protesters to stay at least 35 feetd away from clinics. the court decided the law violated first amendment rights. now lawyers are taking another look at a similar buffer zone

law approved in san francisco just last year. it is 6:32 right now, time to check the forecast as we give you a live look outside this morning. taking a peek at downtown san jose. that's that marine layer christina was telling us about. she has a look this morning. >> it's thick out there which is a good sign for us who live in the inlands. i can tell you right now it is going to be hot as we get into the second half of the weekend into next week. but because of though low clouds that you see, it's going to be really, really comfortable, even through the hot spots. typically this time of year ant tri-valley we hit the mid-80s, today we're likely going to stay in the upper 70s, a couple cities will break into the low 80s at best. i can tell you by next week, we are going to sore above -- soar above average. 58 degrees in san francisco, another great thing that we get from the low clouds is uniform temperatures to start. we all start out at about the same level. by the time that sun comes out, we cut off that marine influence in your inland vel spots.

that's when you see the separation grow. and for today, 66 degrees in san francisco versus 79 degrees in the south bay, that's not a dramatic spread but we are going to see that take place as we get into the this weekend. we have beach conditions to tell you about that are going to be really, really nice as we get into this weekend. we'll talk about that coming up. right now let's look at your drive, welcome in mike inouye. >> good morning. we're going to look at live camera over across the coliseum. pointed it right here, this is north of 66 just before you get to high street off-ramp, the flashing lights and just visible kind of dip down into the embankment there is a car involved in a crash. now no one in the car. the car was running and chp says the ignition, there were no keys in there, it was tampaered with. we're tracking that. i'll let you know about stolen vehicles in the area because we would track that. so far nothing reported. unfortunately we see that on the reports, more than once every morning. we're looking over towards the bay bridge where we see this,

the backup because the metering lights are on. it's a later flow of traffic and lighter volume. the fast track lanes are moving nicely. even the lanes on the left approach are not looking bad. we see it go back over to the 880 acrossing, that's great. around the bay, there's oakland, we see the crash and flowing threw downtown. 580 moves smoothly. east shore moves nicely on the approach there as well. slowing for 5680 through dublin and livermore. because of the volume of traffic at dublin interchange. the correctors stay clear and the traffic flows light. that was able to clear without big backups and no problems. we're looking at a nice flow of traffic for the south bay in the northbound direction, 101 slows a bit from kprol expressway or past sjc. and nothing north of there through mountain view or in towards the peninsula right now we're watching your roads and rails at vta system, transit across the bridge moves nicely. into and through san francisco.

i do want to show you a shot of a san mateo bridge. starting to build just a bit again friday it looks light here. if you're heading south through oakland into hayward at about a street, we got word of a fender bender there and the mace will be in lane, that's a bad time in a bad spot because even on a friday, that stretch between 238 and the bridge backseat up. i'm going track that carefully. >> okay that's good. we'll check back. of course you know about this the, could be a hectic independence day for drivers in san francisco. one of the busiest freeways into the city will be closed for construction over the fourth of july weekend. here's the area i'm talking about. northbound lane was 280 will be closed from 101 to fourth street downtown. it's the same area where southbound lanes were closed last month. the closure will allow them to replace a-inening so the stretch of freeway will be sound. it's for your own good. still ahead, shars of gopro jump 30%. we're going to show you the celebration yesterday inside the

their first full day of trading about ten minutes ago after jumping 340% in the debut on thursday. here's the scene outside the company's san mateo headquarters right after shares started trading. the company's stock jumped 30 pktd listed on the nasdaq gdpro. they make cameras that cost between 200 and $400. >> they looked giddy. c over the parking app called monkey parking says he will not shutd down that app despite a cease and desist letter from san francisco. they plan to auction off spots as soon as they're about to leave. in a statement released on twitter, the app does not sell city parking spaces but informs people about them. the city has order monkey parking and other similar apps to shut down by mid-july. >> no more monkey parking. 6:41, kmung million people expected to pack the streets of

question whether this plan will work. the suicide barriers will approved a few years ago, but funding has been an issue. today's vote may provide a big piece of that puzzle. golden gate bridge directors are poised to approve spending $20 million for a steel cable net to hang beneath the sfan. the state and federal government have already kicked in most of the money for the $76 million project. the local share of $20 million needs an okay. this is a big step in the decade's long debate over whether or not there should be barriers. since the gate opened 77 years ago, more than 1400 people jumped to their deaths. last year set a record with 46 suicides. kevin hooin survived his suicide attempt off the golden gate bridge and has been pushing for deterrents. >> the other organizations, groups, and individuals who have fought for this very day, this exact success, finally, we are placing a higher value on

we start on san jose, easy drive northbound 101. let's show you the maps, and you don't see anything unusual. a little slowing as you develop here driving towards the expressway. the earlier shot we showed you and up to the airport. that's the slowest stretch for 101 and build at the downtown 280, 87 interchange. no big surprise, easy flow of traffic around most of the bay in fact there's the pence last. the bridges show a bump up in volume, south 880 around a street, no lane information, but it doesn't look like anything more than your typical build south through hayward. i'll track that, but again there's a crash at a street and they may be over on the shoulder. look at the tole plaza and they have that he h that back-up since then. slow off the berkeley curve, 580 coming off of 26 24 and over towards the scene. we'll show you on the maps. speed sensors slow there at 580

did not provide enough security at the stadium. judge could decide whether to unseal transcripts in the kats against a man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. lucero benitez from our sister station live in san jose, and what could these transcripts reveal? >> reporter: good morning. there could be a lot of evidence in those transcripts, but they're sealed right now, they were ordered to be sealed bay superior court judge. and all we know is the transcripts are sealed, but there could be a lot of evidence. this morning, they bha unsealed. and if that does happen, the case may go to trial. it's a very important day for sierra lamar's family and they're hoping that the case will take a step forward with that trial. he is accused of kidnapping and killing the 15-year-old girl in 2012. although her body was never found. sierra vanished march 16th of 2012 as she was walking to the bus stop near her home.

garcia torres was linked when his dna was found on articles of sierra's clothing which was found two days after she disappeared. in february, he was indicted bade grand jury and faces several charges for kidnapping and carjacking involving three other women, dating back to 2009. he pled not guilty to the charges including the kidnapping and murder of sierra lamar. in may, the santa clara county district attorney asked for the death penalty. this morning the hear willing take place at 9:00, if the judge does order for those transcripts to be unsealed, there could be a court trial as soon as september. live in san jose, lucero benitez, "today in the bay." >> thank you. we could hear from the bay area man believed to be the master mind behind two websites garpts say advertise prostitution. the website has since then shut down by the fbi. eric mora was arrested earlier they are week accused of running a site and another from his home. both allegedly allowed people to find escorts and review strip

clubs. lawyers think he may enter a plea today. investigators are on the hunt for a gunman in berkeley. police were called to the area near san pablo avenue and austin way just before 10:00 last night. we're told the victim only identified as the 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition this morning and it's unclear what load it that shooting. and a man is in critical condition this morning after a walking into a san jose hospital with a gunshot wound. police think he was shot near capitol park between capitol expressway and interstate 680. he has not been identified, the shootder is still on the loose and the circumstances around that shooting still under investigation. 6:53 this morning, investigators trying to pinpoint what sparked a fire at the half-moon bay airport. the flames and smoke damaged part of a hanger last night. planes were inside at the time but we're told none of them were damaged. firefighters say while they were battling the flames, some sort of flammable liquid began blowing towards them and caught

fire. they put it out though and no one was hurt. tomorrow property owners in santa clara county expected to get their assessments in the mail. the county assessors office say this years rolls show the highest in the county's history. experts say some homeowners can expect to want see a big jump this year. lots of people merging from being underwater this. this is true for areas hardest hit in the recession, morgan hill and gill floi particular. there's a new online tour for this year's property owners to disagree with their assessment. it's going to be a busy and crowded weekend in san francisco as hundreds of thus are expected to attend this year's gay pride celebration.
