let's take a live look outside, good morning fremont where we're hearing triple digits possible in parts of the bay area this morning. let's check your microclimate weather forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> hey, good morning, 5:00 straight up. and i've got to tell you, this is the coolest point of the day. we have near record heat in the forecast for all your inland hot spots as high pressure takes control. the heat is on today and tomorrow. although we will steadily cool you off as we head into the end of the week. and of course that fourth of july holiday, but for today, 90s and triple digits in the inland hot spots. 70s and 80s meanwhile at coast, and aroun the inner bay, and yeah, as we head throughout the week, temperatures will drop off. i want to the show you the trend for livermore, i want to point out the fact that it's still going to be hot and above average all the way across the board. now we'll tell you what's happened across the bay area for this fourth of july. i've got your fireworks forecast coming up, back to you right now scott and laura. we have new pictures just

into the newsroom. this a car that went into the side of cliff's hardware store in san francisco's castro district. witnesses on the scene tell police driver ran away from the crash. no word on whether anyone else was hurt. workers at cliff's just arrived at the store. engineers will be called in to see how badly the building is damaged. officials at sf general will meet today to talk about how the hospital can better respond to mass casualty emergencies like the asiana air crash. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live outside the hospital in san francisco. steph, the outcome could mean big changes for bay area hospitals. >> reporter: that's right, good morning to you. you know we don't know the exact details of what they'll be discussing, but we do know that that day the asiana wreck, there was the operations of the emergency department and in addition to a panel discussion today, the hospital is revealing a mock up site featuring the er room, we'll look at that. san francisco general has the

only level one trauma center serving the area. so this of course is where the asiana crash victims underwent critical surgeries. i was actually here when trauma surgeon gave the very first update following the crash. now she said it was well organized. she complimented those who performed tree i can't imagine at airport because she said the six most critically injured victims arrived at sfn first. which she added definitely saved lives that day. she also described how four rooms were going full speed ahead at the same time, same quote, i think this is the largest incident, really, the mopt has been involved with. we were really well organized and everybody did their job perfectly. but of course, even so, today a we approach the anniversary of the crash. they will be getting together to zwhausz can be done better when it comes to a disaster, the scale of asiana. the asiana crash. not only will the hospital folks

be here, but the department of public health here, that was the department in charge of providing mental health, support to both the victims and the families. live at sf general this morning, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> we're looking for days to improving with thanks steph. police in antioch looking for anyone who knows about a shooting that injured seven people. it happened near hill crest a saturday night. unclear if it happened inside the house or out on the street. officers arrived and found five victims at scene. develop more victims showed up later at hospital. doctors say all of them should survive. so far, no arrests have been made. it's 5:03, the man who led fbi agents on a nationwide man mustn't will be back in a san francisco courtroom today. ed a federal grand jury indicted ryan chamberlain. he's accused of building a homemade bomb and keeping it in his san francisco apartment. he was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, today's conference could discuss the outcome of that investigation.

he faces ten years in prison. peninsula gas station back open this morning after al close call yesterday. a driver crashed swoot station on east fourth avenue in san mateo. the crash caused about 200 gallons of gasoline to leak into the streets. fire crews activated an mrnl shut off switch, prevented the gases from flowing into storm drains. it's unclear what caused the car to crash into the pump. levi stadium seems to be ready to handle the fans expected for game day. we are joined live at the new home of the 49ers in santa clara. sop far so good on crowd control tests? >> reporter: laura, they liked what they say and aside from a few minor glitches, they are ready for business and he sure looks like it here early this morning in santa clara. levi stadium officially opens on august 2nd when the earthquakes play the first match ever here. it seats 68,500.

so the roads and railways will be congested. yesterday's dry run was intended to test all the systems to see what needed to be fixed in the next five weeks. roughly 100 workers spent 12 hours here yesterday from parking and traffic control officers to maintenance crews. and the vta sent 80 trains into service in a mock game day operation. vta only send out 20 train os an normal sunday. the transit agency says it's ready for game day, especially the soccer match. five weeks. >> it's a sold out event on august 2nd. we are expecting a big crowd. and we are ready. we're going to be deploying all that we can to meet the service needs and get people to where they need to be quickly and efficiently and safely. >> reporter: vta says it's planning for about 10,000 fans to hop on its training during 49ers games. the 49ers says things will run so smoothly if you are in the

here in the south bay, san mateo, we're still getting a good ocean breeze here for now. we are going to cut it off later on today. and temperatures are going to be hot as a result, even here in the city by the bay. 72 degrees for san francisco, that's about ten degrees above average for this time of year. 92 for the peninsula. you'll hit 94 degree in the south bay, 98 degrees in the north bay. 78 for the east shore, and the hot spot, look at this, goose eggs looking right at you, 100 degrees in the tri-valley for today. this is not going to last forever. we have cooler days ahead and i'm going to show you your fourth of july fireworks forecast coming up. right now let's check your drive and say good monday morning to mike inouye. >> the goose eggs are proceeded by a one, that's triple digits as far as i'm concerned. over here we're looking at the bay bridge and much less traffic as all cash lanes are now open. folks are waiting, easy drive, no problems. let's look at the approach to the city, the height rise and around the bend.

now there are low clouds hovering around, not a problem as far as the view. also very smooth. we'll look at the entire bay. no matter what you pick around the area, you're at speed limit, however, we're looking at your build coming over here. now over on the planes. northbound 101, debris reported and maybe a fender bender, but that quickly from the report and no slowing along that stretch. crash earlier approach og 680 cleared from the connecter. good stuff for the dublin interchange still. west 5680 at grandline road, fender bender over towards the shoulder. that's a slow down headed to livermore, livermore and dublin moving smoothly as well. south bay, no major problems, northbound routes and fender bender now report 237 at 85. that should bid cleared any second. no injuries, but back to you. speaking of cars, record number of people preparing to

hit the road this weekend. most paying near record price for gas. california is now paying an average of 4.13 for a gallon of regular gas. that's 13 cents more than this time last year. experts say the higher prices are due in large part to that unrest in iraq. >> this is unexpected, iraq is a major oil producer. second largest in opec, and that fear in the marketplace that the rebels can take over is what's driving up the cost of oil and gasoline prices here at home. . >> and the price on air fares and hotels also up. orbit says they're paying 5% this year compared to last year. if there was ever a need for a check engine light, there was this weekend in sunnyville. that's where a kid's incredible -- kitten's incredible journey began. >> this man was at a gas station, hears meowing. he says a tiny black kitten nestled between the engine and the fire wall.

>> abundant sunshine. 5:14 now, that's always been the debacle when it comes to emergency. -- energy, let's take you outside. we have the mid-60s along the peninsula. 64 in the south bay, and hey, good morning to you up in wine country. beautiful start to the day there at about 52 degrees for the north bay. you're going to be hot later on. temperatures climbing into the mid-90s. so let's get right to it. cooling clouds are limited for today. as a result, temperatures are going to be hot, high pressure has taken its grip on the bay area. and as a result today and tomorrow, way above average. couple triple digits possible. especially out in the tri-valley and up in the north bay. highs look like this, 94 degrees in the south bay today. 92 for the peninsula and 72 degrees. that's room temperature and that's a nice day in san francisco. 78 meanwhile for the east shore. upper 90s on the way to the north bay as we get into the end of the week. temperatures are going to start to cool off, but you're going to get great beach days all the way

through wednesday. let's check your drive, here's mike. all right christina. we'll start with a live look, this is north 101 san jose. we have company, but no worries because this is 101 underneath 680, you know where it is. that's one of the first to show you the slow down. the map will show you the same thing. here's where we are. right there 280 heading up past 101, that whole interchange moves smoothly. the construction light over the weekend coming into monday. so 880 at steven's creek, watch that. no delays for the rest of the bay. south 17th showing a little bit of yellow as we head over the minutes at highway 85, just a few more cars because there's no problems there. if you're heading south across the bay. the san mateo bridges moving nicely. earlier issue over there. i marked it there, north 101, but that's it for the peninsula side. the rest of your bay looks nice as far as the flow of the traffic. we'll give you a look at flow for the rails and the roads maps

it is monday, june 30th, this is "today in the bay." from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." and a very good morning to you, thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. new morning, a major twist in the oscar pistorius trial. a panel of mental health experts say the former olympian was not suffering from a mental disease when he shot and killed his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. the determination is a big blow to the defense. if he's found guilty because the health experts are saying that pistorius was able to know right from wrong when he pulled the trigger. the trial was put on hold for a month while the blade runner spent time at a psychiatric hospital. pistorius accused of premeditated murder. he says it was a case of miss taken identity. hospital leaders at sf general will meet this morning to talk about how to be more prepared for a major disaster like the asiana crash.

stephanie chuang is live where the meet willing get under way in hours. this could lead to changes. >> reporter: that's right, laura, good morning to you. it really could. san francisco general here is the only level one trauma center serving this area. the city and county of san francisco and this of course is where all the victims of the asiana crash underwent critical trauma surgery following that tragedy. doctors telling us at the time that this was the first time the hospital experienced a multicasualty incident of this nature and magnitude. i was actually here that weekend when trauma surgeon dr. margaret gave the very first update. she said it was well organized at the hospital. she described how four rooms were going nonstop at the same time with surgeries upon surgeries for different victims. the doctor described that while she and her very experienced trad ma team were used to seeing different kinds of injuries, that the asiana crash victims presented a different pattern of injuries. ones they hadn't seen before,

head trauma, spine fractures, and severe road rash. we know what to doed when this happens. we are very well organized, we had help, we had people assigned to rooms and everybody did their job perfectly. she credited those who performed the checks. as great as that performance was, hospital officials are still gathering today for this panel discussion along with the department of public health which we'll talk about how to strengthen the mental health services provided. of course we'll be here later on for that this morning. live at sf general, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> sounds good, thanks so much, steph. two people were arrested for separate shootings at the end of the pride celebrations in san francisco. the first shooting happened near the intersection of golden gate and hyde last night. nobody hurt. police arrested a suspect. an hour later, a woman was shot outside the warfield theater, that's not far away.

taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. another suspect was arrested in that shooting. police say the shootings were not related to the pride event. 5:32, mountain view woman accused of assaulting two cal train conductors is in jail this morning being held on $50,000 bail. that attacked happened saturday in mountain view. investigators say 22-year-old maria had been acting drunk and cussing loudly. she refused to quiet down and was asked to get off the train. instead witnesses say she swung her bag at two conductors. ones of taken to the hospital with a concussion. the other was treated for minor injuries. well we sflou a name to go with the face. santa claire ka ra county deputies say justin johnson is the person featured in this surveillance video. they're still looking for him. johnson accused of arguing where a clerk at a liquor store near steven's creek in san jose. there he is throwing the bottles. at customer stepped in, pulled

the attacker off and had minor injuries. 5:33, today the san jose postal inspector accused of stealing mail will face a judge for the first time since being arrested last week. investigators say juan howard will tell employees to let him know when items were celebrated from the packages and he reportedly stole them. howard faces several charges including destroying mail, mail theft, possession of stolen mail. he's accused of stealing gift cards, pills, cash, and even two silver bars. we're over a month away from the first event ever from the event. we are joined live in santa clara, they held a dry run here, how'd it go? >> reporter: not bad for the first dry run, scott, aside from a few minor glitches, 49ers say all systems are ago here at levi

stadium in santa clara. just to be sure, more than 100 workers showed up yesterday to test the operations of the sfad yum. they tested the metal detectors, crowd flow, and other operational items. the team and workers spent 12 hours out here closing roads and lanes and redistricting traffic as a simulated a real game-day experience. the vta also rolled up its sleeves. the agency will be taxed with a transporting roughly 10,000 fans to and from the stadium on game days. so vta rolled out the 80 light rail trains for the occasion, the agency normally runs 20 trains on normal sundays. >> we are hoping that people hop on and take a quick, easy, stress-free ride to the stadium. sop they don't have to deal with finding parking, they don't have to deal with traffic. >> reporter: levi stayed gum surrounded by light rail, hard -- stadium is surrounded by light rail, hard rail stadiums.

low clouds that typically keep us cool this time of year, completely thwarted. as w head throughout the day today, offshore flow will be the story for most of the day. then as we head throughout tonight, we'll see an onshore flow, few clouds will roll in. mild temperatures overnight. if you don't have an ac, have a fly fan or something ready to go later on this evening. 94 in the south bay, 92 in the peninsula. you're only going to cool off along the peninsula tonight. it's going to be mild out there. 72 degrees is the forecasted high in san francisco. that's the one place we're really going to see any sort of marine influence. 87 for the east shore. that's a warm day for you in oakland as well. not as hot as the tri-valley temperature that we're forecasting, # 00 degrees straight up out there. 98 degrees meanwhile for the north bay. today peak warmth will cool you off towards the fourth of july holiday. that's a lot of holiday people get outdoors. i'll talk about the forecast for that coming up right now let's check your drive and say good morning to mike inouye.

good morning christina and good morning folks at the bay bridge where the cash lanes is picking up. fast track still a good advantage. another five to ten minutes for that toe start. 5:37 right now, and we're looking at quarter till we should see that build. no problems down at east shore freeway or the 24 interchange. but as you get closer to the maize, west 580, reports of a fender bender there. sounds like traffic will be slowing on the left side of your approach. stay over to the right as you approach the maize and we'll get you more details as chp gets on scene. rest of the bay looks predictable. no delays getting over this. san mateo and bridges south bay just a little start for the build. we'll watch as things start out over there. in fact a live look at the dublin area where traffic flows smoothly. westbound 580, nice, easy drive. that way towards el charro slowing and over towards dublin, back to you. with muni operates contract set to expire today, union

leaders say they will present a tentative agreement to the members. union says the two sides did come to an agreement on a new labor contract late friday night. so far, no comment from muni. the terms of the deal haven't been released, but any agreement would need to be ratified. you'll recall last month, hundreds upset about contract negotiations called in sick as a form of protest which caused major headaches for san francisco commuters. it is 5:39, san francisco's pride celebration and parade brought in nearly one and a half million meem into the city over the weekend. the parade lasted more than four hours and this year organizers say they had more great donations and more input from the facebook and apple. one year after supreme court ruling affirming same-sex marriage participants say they'd like to process, but there's more to do. >> my partner and i right here have been together for 26 years. we got to get married finally. we have two children. and this feels amazing to be out here representing our community.

chicago, was on its way to orange county when the flag just popped open. the plane landed safely in wichita. the united airlines says 96 passengers and five crew members were on board. there's no word on what caused the slide to just suddenly deploy. a power failure caused a ride in san diego's sea world to shut down. it took four hours to reor it power to the sky tower ride yesterday and bring that capsule down. 46 passengers and two employees were stuck. there were no major injuries. the one team was treated for -- one teen was treated for anxiety. that's understandable. seaworld says no one was in danger and the two employees supplied guests with snacks and drinks. new study confirming what most already knew. we like our technology. according to that study, 47% of americans surveyed a mitted they wouldn't last a day without their smart phones. a toeflt 91% of the 1,000 people in the survey called their
