side of cliff's hardware store in the castro district. happened about 90 minutes ago. witnesses on the scene tell police the driver ran away from the crash nop word if anyone else was hurt. workers at cliff's just arrived at the store. engineers will be called in to see how badly the building is damaged. this morning hospital leaders will talk about how to be better prepared the next time a major disaster strikes in san francisco. this comesless than a week from the one year mark of the asiana air crash in sfo. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live outside san francisco general hospital. stephanie, doctors described this as the largest incident they've ever had to deal with. >> reporter: exactly, scott, good morning to you. and that's why we're having the panel discussion today. you know i was here standing in this very parking lot outside the emergency department when these crash victims with less serious injuries were going in and out. they were coming out, worried about their friends and family members who were also hurt. it was up here chaos out here.

san francisco general is the only level one trauma center serving the city and county of san francisco. this is where all the asiana crash victims ind went the critical srnls. we were here when trauma surgeon gave the very first update. she said there were five operating rooms staffed and read dwroip go. doctors got the call within half hour of the crash and by the time she arrived at the emergency department, sf general was receiving critically injured patients. now she described that while she and her team were used to see manager kinds of injuries that the crash victims presented a different pattern of injuries. spine fractures, and severe road crash. she had described we had four rooms going at the same time of the most critical injuries. i have to say, whoever triageed at the airport did a fabulous job. i don't think those patients would have survived otherwise, truly. so as great as the performance

was according to the doctor, today's discussion is again to focus on how to better improve the response including the mental health support that was given by the department of public health which will have if i believes here as part of the decision as -- discussion as well. we'll look at the mock up site featuring new er rooms today. we will be here and give you the latest when that comes around. live in san francisco, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> let's hope they never have to use them, thank you. it is 6:30, new is this morning, united airlines flight bound for southern california was forced to make an emergency landing after the evacuation slide deployed inside the plane. these images were tweeted out from the passengers on board. flight took off from chicago and went to orange county when the slide popped open. it landed safefully wichita. united airlines says 96 pass jers and five crew members were on board. the good news is that no one was hurt and there's no word on what caused that to deploy. two people under arrest for

separate shootings at the end of the pride is celebration. the first happened near the intersection of golden gate and high glass. nobody hurt. police arrested the suspect. an hour later, a woman was shot outside the work field -- warfield theater, taken to the hospital, she's going to be okay. another suspect arrested in that shooting as well. now police say the shootings were not related to the pride events themselves, though police did arrest at least 70 people at celebrations over the weekend for being drunk in public. well this morning police in antioch trying to figure out who shot seven people over the weekend. police say they found five of the victims neither corner of cedar point way and vista grand drive. two more showed up later with gunshot wounds. everybody's going to be okay, but they have no suspect information and no motive. we now have a name tom go with the face. santa clara county sheriff's deputies say justin johnson is the person featured in this

i don't see unusual traffic patterns. i'm going to say that the lanes are cleared now. may be activity off the shoulder, watch that pattern. 580 on 24 been that's your slower drive developing. over here, 580 westbound is also your commute direction out of the pass and vast co., we have a new crash reported there, should be off to the shoulder quickly. look at the traffic bogging down there keeping livermore a little more smooth and better because of where we had a problem where that crash, the disabled truck cleared as well as you're headed past the interchange. pretty smooth drive. might have a new incident. i want to check on that as you come down. so far, easy drive there as well as the south bay. let's give a live look and show you san jose, northbound 101, starting to see the volume increase. that is typical, about 6:10, we see the second burst of traffic kick in. we should see the speeds dip just a bit. 87 will be smooth as well. >> mass transit doing okay. >> they are reported and i'll

keep checking. we're talk about muni. operators contract set to the expire today. union leaders will present a tentative agreement to the members. union says two sides came to an agreement on a new labor contract late friday night and so far, no comment from muni in terms of the deal haven't been released. any agreement would need to be ratified last month hundreds of muni drooirs upset about negotiations called in sick, you'll recall, as a form of protest causing some pretty major headaches for san francisco commuters. well and speaking of havocs, transportation officials rushing to make sure there are no problems getting in and out of here. the new hoechlt 49ers. >> yeah the stadium set to host the first major nooechbt about a month. "today in the bay's" reporter joins us now fwrt stadium in santa clara. damian, officials to want make sure everything goes off without a hitch. >> reporter: yeah, and no major complaints or worries from yesterday's dry run here at levi

stadium. the 49ers say this stadium is ready for game day at this point. to be sure, they held the dry run. levi stadium opens on august 2nd when the earthquakes play the first ever match here. the stadium seats 68,500 fans for the roads and railways leading in will be congested. yesterday's dry run was intended to test all the systems to see what needed to be fixed in the next five weeks. roughly 100 workers spent 127 hours here graed parking and traffic control officers to maintenance crews and the vta also rolled up its sleeves sendingle 0 trains into service in the mock game day operation. vta only sends out 20 train os on a normal sunday. it's ready for game day as well. especially the soccer match that's fast approaching. >> it's a sold out event on august 2nd. so we are expecting a big crowd. and we are ready. we're going to be deploying all that we can to meet the service

counties did not report deadly shootings involving law enforcement officials. the orange county register reports at least 67 deadly police shootings in los angeles, orange, and san bernardino, and san diego counties were not disclosed between 2007 and 2011. facebook is dealing with unhappy users after the feed was tweaked. researchers changed the feeds of almost 700,000 people to show a disproportionate number of happy or sad statuses. for one week in 2012. they found the emotions of others on your news feed can affect your mood. they didn't nch users and now many are calling it unethical. but it's not illegal. when users sign up for the social network, they agree to give up data for testing and research. new study about how attached americans are to their cell phones found what we skiend of already know. according to the study, 47% of

please, please, please, do not light off those fireworks until the fourth of july in the designated areas. please. really, really want to the stress that. you know what because it is so dry out there, i say hey, you know people aren't supposed to be doing it, report it. 59 degrees in san francisco and 62 in the south bay. afterall, we to want keep the big, beautiful bay area that we get to enjoy, nice. heat is on monday and tuesday and we'll see the onshore flow, the cool marine air pushed back on shore. not until we hit wednesday. temperatures are going to be hot and that means as we head throughout the next couple days, you want to the break out that summer wardrobe, drink lots of water, and do your best to beat the heat. parking in the shade, that ten extra minutes, it'll pay off later on today. 78 degrees for the east shore, # 00 degrees out thereto in the tri-valley. let's talk about where we're headed as we get into that holiday weekend. a lot of people have friday off. and temperatures are going to be

comfortable, look at difference between today and friday. today mid-90s for the south bay. low 80s by friday and even in san francisco this year, it looks like we are going to see the low clouds clear just in time for those firework displays usually they start at about 9:00 to 9:30. let's check the drive, here's mike. we have the back-ups usually starting now. that's what we see over here for the tri-valley. edge of traffic starting to bleed over towards the dublin interchange now. the real traffic was a held up back at vasco road. first one over at isabell. both cleared from the roadway and now the traffic make its way towards southbound 680 where we have a hang-up. we have a crash there, it sounded like everything made their way to the shoulder quickly, but that was enough time for it to slow down a bit on the southbound commute direction northbound. that distraction also slowed things down, quickly recovered after moving to the shoulder. there's the slower drive to south 680. here's the northbound routes. 10 1d on capitol expressway and

"today in the bay's" tracy potts joins us live from washington, d.c. this morning, tracy the ruling could come down in 30 minutes. sounds like a crowd behind you. >> reporter: exactly, well you can't see it from this vantage point, but about half way down

the block, i'm sure you can hear it, there are protesters demonstrators isht say on both sides. this is a case where hobby lobby, an arts and crafts store and a furniture store owned bymen niet families, they argue that their companies have religious freedoms and religious rights just like a person. so the key question that the court is going to initially take a look at is the whether or not a company has religious rights like a person. and then they have to decide if the women who work for that company, who also may have very different religious believes are entitled to free reproductive care, free contraception of all types under the affordable care act, even if their employers religion is against that. so those are the issues in this case. you can hear the demonstrations going on outside. there's still people waiting in line hoping to get a seat inside when that decision comes down in

30 minutes. >> certainly sides on this issue, thank you so much, tracy. president obama on the verge of asking congress for billions of to battle what's being called a crisis at the border. the centers around hundreds of young undocumented immigrants crossing the border each day and being caught and detained. the president will also ask for the ability to deport them faster to keep children out of detention centers. jay johnson will visit a military base in texas that houses some of those unaccompanied children. last week he said children who cross the border will not get a free pass just because they are children. meanwhile president obama expected to nominate the next head of the va today. bob mcdonald a former proctor and gamble ceo, if confirmed, mcdonald could be tasked with repairing the agency after widespread evidence of delays in military vets getting into health care at va facilities. administration officials say the president likes mcdonald for his

because they tell the weather story of the day. take a look at half-moon bay at 48 degrees right now. that's an indication of a crystal clear sky, no blanket of low clouds. as a result, your temperatures are kind of all over the place this morning. we are in the upper 50s and clear meanwhile in san francisco, 63 degrees in mountain view, and we're kick off your monday at 62 degrees right here in san jose. high pressure is firmly in control, so the heat is going to be rather strong for today and tomorrow. yesterday was pretty hot, you add an additional five to ten degrees and that's where we're headed today. 90s and triple digits for your inland valley spots. meanwhile 70s and 80s around the bay and at the immediate coast. as we head throughout the afternoon, 100 degrees in the east bay. 72 degrees in san francisco, 98 for the north bay and 94 degrees in the south bay. i did promise you that steady cooling, we'll talk about that coming up and i promise you that

new this morning, major twist in the oscar pistorius trial. panel of mental health experts say the former olympian was not suffering from a mental disease when he shot and killed his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. the determination is a big blow to the defense if he's found guilty because the health experts are basically saying pistorius was able to know right from wrong when he pulled the trigger. the trial was put on hold for a month while the blade runner was spending time at a psychiatric hospital. pistorius accused of premeditated murder, though he says it was a case of miss taken identity. we have new video to show you of survivors being pulled from a huge pile of broken concrete in india.

sf general is the only level one trauma center serving this area. so this is where all the asiana crash victims underwent the critical surgeries. we were here when the trauma surgeon gave the first update. they were five operating rooms staffed and ready to go. they got the call within half hour and by the time she arrive at emergency department. she says the general was receiving critically receiving critically injured patients. the trauma scene never saw the head trauma, abdominal injuries, spine fractures, paralysis, after 24 hours they got through what she says was the largest incident they've ever had to deal with with the following, quote, a to be calm, b to have a plan, and c to not handle more than one patient at the same time for each team. so, if you take a team and say this is your patient, don't worry about all the other stuff

degrees. allow me to fiction myself here. yourp probably fixing yourself up here for the day as well. couple things to point out before you finalize that wardrobe selection, it's going to be hot out there. you want to think light colors because dark colors attract the sun. if you wear black today, you will feet that sun on your back. you're going to be parking out there today as you make your way into work, try to seek shade, and that way when you get in your car later on today. you'll be experiencing temperatures in the 80s over the triple digits. as you know inside your car, it gets hotter. as we head throughout the day today, temperatures are going to be warm, bun this is it. this is the peek of it, yesterday was kind of hot, we'll go back to the levels tomorrow. clear inland, coastal fog out there. it is very limited. and you can actually see it. . you are flying above san francisco, you would see all that cloud cover banked up against the coastal mountains, but not quite making its way inland. sop that marine influence will be thwarted for today, as a result, we're going to see the triple digits.

over there on the peninsula. over here we're looking over towards the berkeley curve where the jam moved more smoothly. west 580 still slow. let's show you how that shakes out for the speed sen source. that's the bulk of the slowing, over towards the maize for west 580. west shore freeway is nice. earlier incidents, sfal and debris. a little slowing in through richmond out of hercules. nop surprises for west 80. same for highway 4 and starting 242 and down towards wal nut creek. typical pattern for that portion. west 580 shows a smoothly drive. same thing for south 680. bassing the boulevard, just your build out of pleasanton and in towards fremont. the rest of the bay moves nicely. we'll look at peninsula with no problems. further south, northbound routes, 101, 87, 85 all shows the typical pattern. and much further south for a lot of us, note, nonetheless, it is

eastbound 162 over i-5. westbound is moving smoothly. eastbound, that has a crash and closure at dinosaur point. westbound is still moving smoothly, prepare for delays because of crashes going on there. we're going to continue to track that, that's for folks mostly down towards l.a. that'd be the route, i'm not going there, i'll be here, back to you. >> we're happy you are, thanks so much. 6:51, by the end of the summer, it could be harder to get your hands on oim portd foods to smart phones. 20,000 west coast dark workers is expected to expire today. lucero benitez live at the port of oakland this morning, and lucero, is there a deal in sight? >> reporter: good morning, laura. a good point, there isn't a deal in sight and negotiations are still up in the air. meantime the contracts between about 20,000 dock workers and pacific maritime association is set to expire tonight.

they've been negotiating since may and it doesn't seem they'll come to an agreement by the end of the day tonight. this could mean that by summer it could be harder for the consumer to put their hands on imported goods including foods and cell phones, that worries businesses which trade those items because the delay would happen right when the sales go up, usually around the time back to be school shopping hands and christmas time. on one side is the international long shore and warehouse union with activism, on the other is the pacific maritime association which represents 29 west coast ports while the association looks to reduce employee benefits. employees look for economic and job security. this isn't the first time something like this happens and shipping may reduce significantly, but we'll have to wait and see if there is an agreement by the end of the day tonight. lucero benitez, live in oakland, taik. >> we'll keep tabs on that, thanks so much, lucero. mountain view woman accused of assaulting two cal train

conductors in jail this morning held on $50,000 bail. happened saturday at the san antonio station in mountain view. investigators say 22-year-old maria valdamera was acting drunk and cussing loudly. she refused to quiet down and asked to get off the train. instead she swung her bag at two conductors. one had to be taken to the hospital with a concussion. the other treated for minor injuries. man who led fbi agents on a nationwide man hunt will be back in a courtroom today. earlier this month, the federal grand jury indicted ryan chamberlain. he's accused of building a homemade bomb and keeping it in his san francisco apartment. he was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in today's status konchs could address this. chamberlain faces ten years in prison. new this morning, united airlines flight bound for southern california forced to make an emergency landing after the evacuation slide deployed inside the plane.

these images tweeted out from passengers on board. the flight took off from chicago, it was on its way to orange county and the slide popped open mid-flight. the plane landed in wichita safely. united airlines says 96 passengers and five crew members were on board. no word on what caused the slide to deploy. here's something you don't see every day. it's a live look inside the new home of the 49ers. crews are putting the final touches on that stadium while tlpgs officials are really working out the kinks to make sure there are no problems getting in and out of that area. >> first event is going to happen. about a month. and "today in the bay's" reporter joins us from the stadium, and damian, dha had a test run, how'd it go? >> reporter: bob they say they are ready. 49ers are ready to open this brand new stadium in the next few weeks, zout. aside from a few minor glitches, the team says that this stadium passed the test yesterday. and to make sure, about 100

workers showed up yesterday to test the operations of the stadium. they tested the metal detectors, crowd fwloe, and other operational items. the team and workers closed roads and lanes and redistricted traffic as a simulated a real game day experience. the vta also got tested. the agency will be taxed with transporting roughly 10,000 fans to and from the stadium on game day. so vta rommed out 80 light rail trains for the occasion. the agency normally runs 20 trains on normal sundays. >> we are hopes that -- hoping that people hop on and take a quick, easy stress-free rided to the stadium. so they don't have to deal with finding parking, they don't have to deal with traffic. >> reporter: the first official test will come on august 2nd, that's when the san jose earthquakes play the first official game here at levis. levi stadium is surrounded by light rail, hard rail, and several highways, but in any
