retaliation for the deaths of three israeli teenagers. we're seeing more low cloud cover this morning around the east bay in san francisco hinting at a cooling change ahead in your afternoon forecast. i'll let you know what to expect later today in your forecast coming up in just a couple minutes. and that crash that scott talked abouted is in fact affecting your commute. the work arounds and how severe that affect is for the rest of your build. live look outside this morning at san jose, it is tuesday, the first day of july. and this is "today in the bay." from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." and a very good morning to you, thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. let's start with breaking news this morning. san jose police are at a home where a car slammed into a garage earlier this morning. >> bob redell joins us live on the scene right now, it's
6:01 am
interesting, this is actually tied to a home invasion robbery as well. >> reporter: that's what san jose police are telling us, good morning, laura and scott. you can see the home in question here. singleton and center, it's a evacuate home, no one was at home -- vacant home, no one was at home at the time. the suv has been removed. it happened around 4:30 this morning. san jose police tell us there were two people in the car. both they believe teenagers who have been involved in a home invasion, robbery that took place on the east side of town involving two elderly people. their condition as far as we know, they're okay. not sure what was taken, but as they were leaving that location, chp tried to pull over this van, not because they were suspects in the home invasion robbery, but because they had made an unsafe lane change. now it's not clear if there was a pursuit, as chp tried to pull them over, they crashed into the garage. the driver took off on foot.
6:02 am
the chp officer chased him, but the driver leapt over a fence so the officer decided to go back and retrieve the passenger because he didn't think he could get the driver. they were able to arrest the passenger. it's not clear how cooperative, if at all, that passenger is being. they are holding him obviously because he is a suspect in the crime and also trying to find out the identity of of that driver. the only description san jose police have right now is that hispanic, they believe he is a teenager, and they say that he is bleeding, based on some of the blood they found on the fence. as you can see behind me, there is a lot large police presence out here. officers had some of the rifles drawn earlier, actually right here to the left, you can see that officer putting his rifle back into the trunk of the car. because of the circumstances, they were never able to set up a perimeter because they found out too late what was happening as far as they had a suspect outstanding. there was no point in setting up a perimeter, but they have a police presence out here trying to still find this suspect,
6:03 am
again his location unknown. they just had the passenger in custody. obviously two men, teens they believe, one at least has been hispanic, the one outstanding against suspects in a home invasion robbery that took place this morning about four or five mimes away from here in east san jose. reporting live in san jose, "today in the bay." >> active story there, thanks bob. also new this morning, two northbound lanes of interstate 880 are shut down. this is near 98th avenue, part of the onramp, it is also closed. the crash between coca-cola truck and motorcycle happened just before 4:30. they are easing congestion on 880, big rigs are allowed on the highway. how you can get to work, mike inouye. >> yeah, this is a horrible place and horrible time, of course we don't even want to
6:04 am
talk about how bad this is as far as the human impact because someone has died as a result of this crash. we continue to have the investigation going on. you can see the flashing lights blocking your twor right lanes as you approach the 98th avenue onramp. from time to time, that is affected. you're in the area, consider using haganburger or 66, that's north of the coliseum. there's a ham up -- jam up, but there's barely available. coming up towards the scene, you're jamming up at davis street. if you're heading to the airport, get off at davis and take over to doolittle. just a little bit longer on the surface streets it'll get you passed the back up. if you want to go west, go to san leon droe street or national boulevard. it's 14th for the next block or so, then to international. that'll get you past to the coliseum and back on the freeway. 580 is a little far to go. 880 through 580 looking good. stick it outic. big rigs are allowed on 580 for the duration.
6:05 am
that'll change the traffic flow there as well as coming off the valley wide. be careful for west 580 off of 238. bay bridge, we have a good a. traffic heading up there, they have turned the metering lights on. let's look there, all lanes are backed up past the 880 overcrossing. the fast lane tracks are moving steadily and it's smoothly off of 580. back to the maps a and we're talking about the traffic flow. not a problem there. typical build for the flow up there livermore, more slowing through dublin and nothing dramatic out of pass president of 680, it was nice as does the rest of your bay. we had aernlier crash, and it's still reported on highway 92. camera from the hayward side shows an easier drive. foster city side, slowing. oakland airport, bart reporting on time. we had earlier delays, that's back on time, you can bart through oakland airport, back to you. duo have a developing story,
