from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." well good morning everyone, 4:30 i'm scott mcgrew, last day of your workweek. >> northeast likely. and i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to this morning, let's check the forecast with christina loren. she's here bright and early. >> sounds like you two are pretty eager to get this day in the books. i can tellout it's going to be nice this weekend, and yeah the fourth of july, can you believe it's already tomorrow? 57 degrees in san francisco. 58 in mountain view and we're kicking off your day at 57 degrees this morning in san jose. now we do have dooming clouds out there, clinging to the coast, and standing inland as we

speak. this is actually a live look at pavk ka where we can make out the structures here which means you're not completely clocked in just yet. we will take you through your weekend forecast coming up in just a few minutes, now let's bring in mike inouye, happy thursday. happy thursday. it's a happy commute for most drivers. westbound 580, and a nice smooth drive, my goodness, we're going to hold my microphone right here, it's stuck underneath my tie. there's a report eastbound 580, there's a stall there. just down to one lane, folks, that's not a good deal. but the rest of the bay moves smoothly as you look at south bay and the peninsula. the east bay, east shore freeway where westbound 80 is moving nicely. live look past the east shore freeway, there you go. university avenue moves smoothly. i don't see it on the camera, that's better news, i'll fix my

microphone and bring it closer towards my face. >> you spoke tie, thank you very much. new details about a backyard fire pit that exploded. six girls were sitting around the pit at the time. bob redell live outside the house where it happened. two of the girls sent to the hospital, bob, how did it happen? >> reporter: this was one of the built--in barbecue pits. it is fueled by a natural gas line. they were sitting around the fire, roasting marshmallows in campbell last night. everything was fine for the first hour, hour and a half, then around 10:00, the fire pit exploded, shooting out debris into the backyard, and as you mentioned, sending two of the girls to the hospital. >> so when i heard the blast, i still assumed it was a big fire cracker and about five seconds later they came sprinting into the kitchen and i started seeing blood on knees and feet and hands and on the neck and things

like that. >> reporter: the two girls hurt as i mention hd to go to the hospital, treated for minor burn injuries. they are going to be okay. the other four were picked up and taken home. the homeowner tells us this fire pit was around three, three and a half years old. he used it around 40 to 50 times without ever having any problems. and he pointed out, it's not like they turned it on and had this immediate explosion. his daughter and her friends were sitting around the fire pit for quite some time before it blew up. scott, you want asked what. caused this to explode expect santa clara county fire department responded last night. that's an issue right now they are investigating. reporting live here in campbell, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. firefighters were at the scene of that explosioning with the emergency dispatch center in santa clara county was down. the building did not completely lose power, but lost the ability to dispatch ambulances and fire trucks by truck.

at one time they were manually dispatching to emergencies. after 90 minutes the problems were fixed. they're trying toe figure out what happened there. firefighters say fireworks sparked flames on a hillside behind park middle school in antioch. the fire burned one acre but did not threaten any homes. the fire is a major concern during the fourth of july week. crews want to remind everybody, fireworks are illegal in khan card cost that county and that includes the safe and sane kind of fireworks, like sparklers. developing now, napa's famous vineyards are safe from a fire for now. hundreds of homes are still in the path of the massive flames. fire started tuesday, already burned 3800 acres. it is still only 30% contained. the fires destroyed two homes and burned several other sheds and shacks. nearly 400 homes and buildings are in the line of a fire and hundreds of people are evacuated. last night some people living

near the estates only two miles from the fire said they had to leave some precious things behind. >> animals had to be taken, i had to leave animals, and i had to open a door and just hope that they'll survive and be there when i get back. >> right now nearly 1,000 firefighters are battling the terrain. more crews are on the way. let's bring in kris sanchez, she joins us live from san leandro this morning. several strike teams from the east bay just left this morning for napa valley. >> reporter: yeah, left in about five rigs, it was a flurry of activity ten minutes ago. they don't know where they're going, but they are to report by 7:00. they're going to work in teems of about four firefighters. there are 22 of them not just flu san leandroleandro, but fro fremont, hayward, pleasanton, oakland, they took their own rigs, but will be working out of

state vehicles once they get to napa county. they're supposed to report by 7:00, then they will hit the ground running. again working in five, four-person crews. in addition to being a firefighting effort, this will be a learning experience, because along with them they have a chief trainny and they have one person that works with a sfriek team. we have fresh video this morning. we are going to get it edited and see you back here at 5:00. e reporting live in san leandro, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." now for a look at what those crews will be up against in terms of the weather, here's christina. >> time now 4:36, that napa county fire and the situation not looking as good as it did at this time yesterday. we have humidity at 93%, your temperatures at 56 degrees out there, but i can tell you right now, the wind is increasing and we're now getting these winds and in very erratic directions.

right now the strongest gust i clocked in that area was at about 23 miles per hour. but here's the deal as the morning draws on, we are going to see the winds intensify. so stick around for that. we'll get to that report in a minute. right now here's mike inouye with your drive. now to a developing story, arthur is now the first hurricane of the 2014 atlantic season. winds have reached up to 75 miles an hour, and are expected to get worse several hurricane warnings have been issued across north carolina, reaching the virginia border. the storm not expected to hit land. now earlier this morning, city officials ordered mandatory evacuations for cape hadaras, that's off north carolina's coast. >> we are taking this storm very seriously, and i asked that all coastal residents and visitors do the same. >> other evacuations are expected as the storm grows and it could bring up to four inches of rain. now because of the storm, some

city ace long the east coast moved up their fourth of july celebrations. the annual boston pop's concert and fireworks show will happen today to avoid any impact from the hurricane. the show could be canceled though depending on the weather. also happening now, the northbound lanes of 280 are closed from the 101 interchange to near at&t park for construction. the closure is creating tricky traffic in the areas as thousands will have to use already jammed streets and 101. and the interstate's going to closed until monday and some giants fans who usually drive on 280 have to consider another we to get to today's game. >> it'll be a mess. maybe we should take the train. >> if i knew the highway was closed and i had to come down downtown, i wouldn't do it. >> crews are repairing joints that'll make the roads safer during an earthquake. mike inouye has been tracking the traffic, what kind of ways around it? >> cal train. that'll take you up to the

station. >> park in mountain view and up to the peninsula. this 280 extension, anywhere north of 101, 280 is closed to at&t park and that continues until monday as skoutd said. you'll use 10 #, that'll be very crowded because that connection between the two and the bay bridge already a very popular route. now get familiar with vermont street which will take you to 16th. you can cut over or continue up towards seventh and fourth. if you moved to the east as you head towards the mission bay area. it'll take you over towards at&t park or the rest of the district. those are areas you get cut off if you're traveling northbound 280 at 101. again that's where the reroute is. this will affect the folks heading into the city for fourth of july holiday weekend stuff. mike, fireworks, keep that in mind no matter when you're traveling. the rest of the bay moves smoothly righted now. and smooth drive across for all of your bridges including the golden gate bridge.

security undetected isis is the same militant group responsible for all the recent violence in iraqi. in the past, officials raised concerns about nonmetallic explosives being surgically implanted inside a traveler's body. undetectable on pat downs and medical detectors. it is not connected to a specific threat. it only affects overseas airports. meantime 19-year-old denver woman is under arrest accused of trying to join isis and engaging in violent jihad all because she fell in love. she was arrested at the airport trying to board a flight to turkey. investigators just releasing details of the arrest. conley was planning on meeting a man in turkey who wanted to marry her and help her join up with terrorists in syria. the fbi trying to dissuade her from the crime but she fell in love online and was determined to go overseas. berkeley city council

approved an ordnance says pot dispensaries have to give away pot to low income patients. they'll have to hand out their weeded to poor members. the ordnance defines it as $32,000 or under for one person, 46,000 and other for a family of four. one dispensary has been giving out free cannabis for the past 15 years. >> sort of a cruel thing that when you are really ill and you do have a serious illness, it's often hard to, it can be hard to work. it can be harded to maintain a job. and when that happens, your finances suffer and then you can't buy the medicine that you need. >> the ordnance could become final in august, job numbers for the month of june are due out in about 456 minutes. the first friday of the month, it's a holiday. economists are optimistic. let's turn to morgan brennan, she's live at cnbc world headquarters, good morning,

lauren. >> reporter: futures are higher ahead of the economic data that june jobs report is expected to show hiring remains strong for a fifth stwragt month. forecast calling for companies to have added 215,000 jocks with unemployment holding steady at 6.3%. we're also getting data today on filing for unemployment, trade deficit, and services spector. rising 24 points yesterdayed to 16926. the nasdaq slipping to 4457, back to you. >> thank you much. from morgen to christina, she has a look at the forecast for today and little beyond. >> good morning, current conditions, for that fire that's still burning in napa county. we usually get the latest updates at about 6:00, for about an hour and a half away, maybe two hours away from an update. the only thing is the wind is

picking up from time to time and it's getting strong to the tune of about 17 miles per hour sustained in the area. but then it drops right back off. we're seeing the wind that picks up and drops off in the area elsewhere. it's pretty calm this morning down in the south bay, and you're at 13 miles per hour in oakland, 18 miles per hour in concord. the wind is going to play a factor again today, mopefully when we get the next update we'll give you good information. really want to point something out, really cool stuff happening in the south bay. you can see the wind direction is coming from the southeast. so as that air drifts to the northwest, you can smell that garlic in the air this morning in san jose because of the wind direction. now temperatures are mostly in the 50s, it's comfortable out there, but i can tell you the low clouds are going to be visible as we head throughout the next hour. that's going to keep us comfortable for the first part of the day and repeat performance, nice sunny finish and temperatures that are comfortable. yeah, let's talk about your gradual weekend warm-up as we

get into your fourth of gum weekend. temperatures look good tomorrow we'll stay nice and steady, then we'll bring the numbers up for saturday and sunday. starting to get a little bit hot out there. the tri-valley will be 97 degrees by sunday, then we're going to bring the trim digits on monday. we'll talk about that extended forecast coming up, now back to you scott and laura. 4:48, investigators are trying to figure out if a home in san jose was intentionally set on fire. it is on north autumn street. no one was home when the fire started after 10:00 last night and it's even possible the home was abandoned. crews put out the fire quickly and no one was hurt. also in san jose, police looking for a burglar who broke into a home in the middle of the day, unbeknownst to the burglar, he was not the only person in the house. this happened on stratford drive in south san jose. mica just got out of shower when he heard a knock at the door and another and another. then he heard his first front

burst open, ran into the hall bay where he came face to face with an intruder. he ran the burglar out of his house and on to the street where a new bluish purple hon dap hatchback was waiting. >> then gunned it, came straight for me, and i dove behind the tree and swerved and took off and flew around the corner. >> now the suspects got away. they're still on the loose. police suggest if someone knocks on the door, let somebody know that you're home. >> but what if you're not sure? 4:49, jurors will resume deliberations today in a civil case against the l.a. dodgers. yesterday the jury told the judge it was unable to reach a verdict, but the judge sent the jury back to try again. stow was nearly beaten to death after a dodgers game back in 2011. his lawyers are suing the team for negligence and say the dodgers did not do enough to keep bryan stow and fans safe. survivors of a capsized boat will head back to the gulf of mexico to remember their

friends. residents charles gibbson and two others survivors reportedly returning to mexico to lay a wreath where the boat sank. the eric capsized in the sea of cortez in 2011 killing eight northern california men. today the survivors will also receive the cremated remains of the organizers and bring him home. then the group plans to doed what they never got to do three years ago. they plan to fish. 4:50 right now, this morning several vermont firefighters are recovering after they were struck by lightning while trying to put out a fired. crews are bat american league two-iowa larm fire yesterdayed when that lightning hit. seven firefighters were rushed to the hospital. investigators believe the lightning hit a metal pipe outside the house. everyone is expected to be okay. well still ahead, shake-up for the giants, the changes the manager said have to be made. and look at that the, the beautiful view of the bay bridge getting into the city from oakland is just fine right now,

and welcome back to you. a live look this morning at o.co coliseum. sflt a's welcome the blue jays tonts after dropping three straight to the tieingers in detroit. meanwhile a deal between the city of oakland and the team is expected to crumble today. the cities four members on the coliseum authority board are being told to reject a ten year lease to keep the a's at the coliseum. those no-votes would kill the deal. the city council is against the proposal which has been in the works for months. it wants better terms and more money. the council is expected to introduce its own proposal to the authority today, but lou wolf says he's done negotiating. >> better terms, more money, who doesn't want that? giants wrapping up a three-game series this afternoon against the cardinals before hitting the road, headed to san francisco. first pitch, 12:45, last night the giants were shut down by the cardinals ace adam wainwright. final score, 2-0. after the game, bruce bochy announced he's shaking up the line-up in hopes of waking up
