good crowd but this is epic can we say? >> they've been out all night. you should have seen the disappointment when we showed up zpl we're excited about ed on the plaza. hurricane arthur, the storm raining on a lot of holiday parades and not o to mention barbecues and holiday parades as it moves from the outer banks. kerry sanders is in kill devil hills. good morning, kerry. >> reporter: good morning, tamron. the light has been up for several hours giving emergency officials a chance to really do good assessment of the damage. as we take a look at a picture here. it was snapped on hatteras island, north carolina highway 12. perhaps went through the worst damage from the rising storm surge that came in in excess of 4 feet. taking out a portion of the road there. that is one of the reasons why

the authorities did a mandatory evacuation. as we look at some of the other areas, let me take you to kill devil hills where i am right now. these pictures we shot a short time ago showing you what it looks like as the storm battered the shore here and did a fair amount of beach erosion but remarkably most of the structures, and homes are really undamaged. kill devil hills, you can see blowing rain along the beach. 101-mile-per-hour gusts. so as we look at surf city, you can see the waves pounding. one of the things i found awfully interesting and this will play well for folks out there on the west coast as you're waking up. you know the pacific is always coast. the water here started out in the 80s, now down in the 60s, just in the passing of the storm because a hurricane pulls the

cold water from up down below. you are used to that on the west coast. folks on the east coast like their water warmer plus there's always a threat to deal with, rip current. back to you. >> thanks, kerry, that's such an important point to make, the water temperature starts off so warm and that helps fuel the storms. it was a category 2 hurricane as it made landfall in the outer banks of north carolina. it has weakened to a category 1 storm, 130 east of norfolk, virginia where we lose the clouds shortly. winds at 90 miles per hour and picking up forward speed to the north and east. ocean city maryland is seeing the heavier rain, including areas like southern new jersey. we are looking at the winds to ease a bit but when they made landfall and the storm made landfall we had winds around 101 miles per hour now gusting up to around 30 to 40 miles per hour. it's still exceptionally windy. we still have hurricane warnings

and tropical storm warnings in north carolina. also have tropical storm warnings across cape cod, martha's vineyard and nantucket. that's where we'll see the bulk of the effects with this hurricane next. it is a category one storm and will continue to weaken, but not before crossing to the southeast of nantucket. later on tonight, into tomorrow morning. then it moves up into nova scot scotia. we're dealing with the storm surge as the hurricane continues to churn up the water. as kerry pointed out, we have to keep an eye out for rip currents. we're looking at rip currents up and down the east coast from maine into florida with surf as high as 11 to 14 feet. and that remains a concern again as we go into saturday and sunday. don't let the sun fool you, the water is still pretty dangerous. carson? >> why keep an eye on that. much more on arthur throughout the morning. now we go to georgia and stunning developments in the case of a toddler who died inside a hot suv, disturbing

claims came to light as the boy's father appeared at the hearing on murder charges. gabe has the latest. >> reporter: we had heard this was supposed to be a stunning court hearing, but few people expected all of this. three hours of testimony and this morning this community is still absorbing the stunning allegations. charged with murder and child cruelty, rob harris seemed emotional several times as prosecutors dropped a series of bombshells. >> the most common term would be sexting. >> reporter: it was testified harris was leading a double life, exchanging nude pictures of himself with up to six women, some even as his 22-month-old cooper was dying in a sweltering suv. >> it proves motive because he was unhappy in the marriage and plan to show he wanted to live a child-free life. >> reporter: the detectives said one of the women have reservations about the online relationship. >> she said something to the

effect of do you have a conscien conscience? what was his response. >> nope. >> harris's attorney objected. >> there's no connection between the events of that day and death of this child and this fantasy texting or whatever it is. >> reporter: detectives said before cooper died harris had done online research about child deaths in overheated cars, how to survive in prison and sites that advocated against having children. the detective testified harris had two life insurance policies on his son, won through his job worth $2,000 and other $25,000. police allege he left cooper inside the suv for seven hours on purpose. harris has pleaded not guilty. >> we said this was an accident from the beginning and that hasn't changed. >> reporter: on the stand, harris' brother defended him. >> he was a loving father. >> reporter: but harris' wife leanne na in court stayed quiet. she showed no real emotion after being told her son was dead.

he is not charged with any crime. rob harris's case will head to a grand jury after a judge ruled there was probable cause. the judge also denied bail, which means harris will remain here at the county jail. >> thank you very much. lisa bloom is today legal analyst and with us this morning. lisa, good morning. >> good morning. >> let's start with the bombshells that game referred to. the prosecution con tends that he was sexting as many as six different women, including a teenager and that he had taken out two life insurance policies on his son cooper, one of them for $25,000. lisa, what kind of picture, if any, does this paint for a motive here? >> tamron, if these police reports are true it's no longer a crime story. it's a new low. a father who is sexting while his baby boy is dying a death that he planned?

we get inside his man via those internet searches, including watching a report on how animals suffer and die in a hot car and how to live a child-free life. what life in prison is like. the police amassed a mountain of evidence in the last two weeks of this evidence against justin harris. >> in addition to that, investigators also said they observed an interesting conversation between harris and his wife lee ann at one point he told her he dreaded how cooper would look presumably after his death. would this indicate there was premeditation here? >> absolutely. we also know that his wife in that recorded conversation was concerned that perhaps her husband had said too much. neither of them expressed any concern about the baby, what he went through and that horrific death. all of the concern was about justin harris and the fact he had been apprehended. >> justin harris' attorney con tends this was an accident and

what they pointed to was at one point harris' friends dropped him off at the car and put light bulbs in the vehicle and if he was in the back seat that justin harris would never have brought friends so close to a crime scene where they could have discovered that little boy's body. >> that's assuming that a defendant never makes any mistakes. he did go at noon into that car and at that point his baby was either dying or already deceased. a couple of hours later, there was a terrible stench that came from the car. i mean, it's impossible to believe that he didn't know his baby was in the car at that point. >> and lastly, we've seen a lot of high profile cases that involve parents accused of killing their child, andrea yates comes to mind. detectives have said this has been especially hard. we know public reaction to this. what do you have to say so many

years as a person in the legal world hearing this yet again, this allegation? >> you think you've heard it all. this really is a new low. murder is the worst crime. killing a child is the worst of a child. kill's one's own child has to be the absolute worst of all. to hear he is sexting while his child is dying in that car. it's unimaginable. >> lisa bloom, thank you very much. we appreciate it. >> thank you. >> such a terrible story. shakes me to my core. my daughter is 22 months. unimaginable. >> more details likely to come out. watching this trial live and to gabe's point, it was shocking one thing after another revealed by prosecutors if these are true. >> and the wife too. all right, meantime willie is here with a troubling case of alleged police brutality. >> an investigation under way after a disturbing video is posted on youtube showing an

officer with a california highway patrol beating a woman alongside a freeway. joe has more on this story. good morning. >> nearly everyone carries a camera thanks to cell phones, this was captured on video by someone driving by, a warning to our viewers, this video may be disturbing. >> at first it's unclear just what's happening in the cell phone video. >> oh, my god. >> you can hear a man in the car with friends, laughing as a police officer follows a woman walking through traffic across a los angeles freeway. >> [ bleep ]. >> reporter: but what happens next is no laughing matter. the officer stopping the woman on a concrete median tries to grab her arm. as she appears to resist, he grabs her again throwing her to the ground. then the video gets down right disturbing. >> he is -- >> well, the woman is on her back, the officer holds her down, hitting her head and upper body about a dozen times in just

11 seconds. the woman can be seen using her arms and hands to block her head and face before a second man helps the officer apply handcuffs. there's no information yet about the woman's identity, current condition or legal status. >> she's like this. she's not fighting. these aren't like taps. these are like grown man on top of you, punching you. >> the california highway patrol is opened an internal investigation but did not give the reason for the stop or initial contact, saying in a statement obtained by nbc news, as a matter of policy, every time there is a use of force by our officers, there is a review conducted to determine whether the use of force was appropriate. since there is an ongoing investigation, it would be premature to comment on the specific video segment. >> at this point we don't know what happened before the video started recording. the highway patrol says it will review the entire incident as part of its internal

investigation. willie? >> those are horrifying pictures. thanks so much, joe. >> tragedy in brazil when a bridge collapsed in the world cup host city, at least two people killed, 19 others injured. it was captured on surveillance tape. the falling underpass flattened a car and damages a commuter bus and other vehicles and it happened on a main avenue part of a construction project for the world cup. but the project was not finished in time. many of the injured were construction workers. they will host a world cup semifinal game next week. >> new video shows a haunting video from inside the costa concordia. 32 passengers and crew members died in the accident. the video was released days before crews attempt to tow the ship away. the italian government will take it to genoa where it will be

7:30 on this friday morning, the fourth of july, 2014. unfortunately hurricane arthur isn't providing much reason for celebration. the storm heading north after hammering north carolina's outer banks. more on the storm and the holiday impact straight ahead. >> meantime, here's what else is making headlines, a blinding dust storm caused serious travel problems in arizona. the airport in phoenix was forced to ground all outbound flights for an hour and two dozen incoming flights were diverted to other airports. more protests are planned in southern california when the next round of buses arrives. protesters earlier this week blocked three buses from making

it to the facility. an important recall to tell you about, foster farms is recalling 170 different chicken products. the fda found evidence linking the company's boneless chicken breast to an antibiotic resistant strain of salmonella. dates from march 21st to march 29th. still to come, unforgettable birth, a woman forced to deliver her own child in a moving car. what kept her from reaching the hospital in time and how she managed to stay calm through it all. we have a massive holiday crowd getting set for a great concert from ed sheeran, new album debuting at number one this week. let's begin this half hour with the latest on hurricane arthur. kerry sanders is in kill devil hills north carolina. kerry, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, carson. as you can see the no swimming signs up for folks who live on west coast and see the ocean

like this and think it's no big deal but the real threat here is not necessarily the wave action, which is unusually tall and powerful for this coast, but rather what you don't see and that's hidden down below underneath this water are the rip currents. what is a rip current? let's look at the graphic to explain what it is. it's sort of a trough, a little valley that's built in the sand underneath this wave action. you can't see it but if you're out there swimming, you can get caught in it and the water is ripping out into the ocean. it could be moving 8 feet a second, even a powerful olympic swimmer can't fight that. and so you're supposed to swim along the shore to swim parallel to get out of that rip. but it is not easy. the life guards are up and down the east coast here, outer banks and all the way further north encouraging people to stay out of the water. what arthur did here as a category 2 storm, not only created rip current and wave action, but also look at the damage here. this is hatteras.

this is hatteras island. this is north carolina highway 12. you can see the road here has buckled under the storm surge. this category 2 storm came in with a storm surge that exceeded 4 feet. the water overtopping the road and washing it out. this is the same road that washed away three years ago. it's part of the reason that they actually had to evacuate that area. ocracoke island and other areas in and along the coast and further north right now have no power. more than 40,000 residents have no power. the power companies are moving in to try to restore power. that could take all day and may even extend into tomorrow to gemt the power back. as we look at the concern for the coastal flooding, there is standing water in certain places and the authorities are saying, look if you're out in the car and see standing water, don't drive into it because 6 inches can turn into 2 feet, 3 feet and you're in trouble. they are very concerned about people getting injured after the storm passes. but by and large as they look at

the early assessment so far of what was a category two hurricane, one that came in overnight here, they realized that the damage could have been a lot worse. >> it certainly could have been considering it strengthened into a category 2 storm before it made landfall. the barrier islands for mainland north carolina and certainly took a beating. look now as the storm picked up in forward speed, northeast at 23 miles per hour. you can see the sun already attempting to come out across parts of north carolina. it is still raining pretty good in southern new jersey. next up is cape cod. we're going to see the system move north and east. heavy rain starts to move in right around 5:00 tonight across cape cod through nantucket and heavy through the night and it pulls away early friday morning. it's really picked up forward speed and moving quickly. but even as we start off the day saturday across down east maine, we're looking at heavy rainfall.

we could end up with 4 to 7 inches of rain in orange here and down through boston, 1 to 2 inches of rain. we want to reiterate, you've got to watch the rip currents, from maine to florida. the water is churned up and rip currents are kind of hidden in the water but they are making things very dangerous. you want to play it safe and always swim where there's a lifeguard, we'll see seas as high as 14 feet off of 7:35, happy fourth of july bay area, we are spoiled this year. live looking at san jose, cloud cover. mostly cloudy over oakland and same overcast sky is in san francisco. we're going to see it comfortable temperatures though because of those low clouds to start. 79 degrees for today, 64 in san francisco, 83 degrees in the south bay. and the warm spots will be the tri-valley and the north bay area of the alameda county fair in town. if you're headed out there, lots of sunscreen for today.

forecast. >> all right, dylan. thank you very much. now to a harrowing cliff rescue caught on camera. willie has the story for us. willie? >> this is amazing. it was a daring mission. the snoqualmie pass just east of seattle where peaks can reach as high as 3,000 feet. >> i've got him. he's at 11:30 just above the snowline on the left. >> reporter: search and rescue members in a helicopter spotted a lone hiker clinging to a cliff in the snoqualmie pass. >> he's sitting on about a three-foot ledge or so. >> reporter: the rescue team responded after the unidentified hiker managed to call 911 to report he was stuck on a ledge. the hiker telling emergency respondsers he didn't know how much longer he could hang on. that's when the rescuers sprung to action. we're just going to have to get behind him. i think that's going to be the best place to stand there.

but there is not much room. we'll see how this works. >> reporter: with little more than ten feet between the rotor and the cliffside, rescuer miles mcdonough was lowered into position. as mcdonough descends, we see the face of the scared hiker. he convinces him to let go. raising him up to safety. the grateful hiker landing moments later safely on the ground. obviously we're grateful he's okay, but give credit to the helicopter rescue team. unbelievable effort by them. >> in those situations anything can go wrong. you take that for granted sometimes. up next, a special rossen reports investigation exposing the dirty truth about rental cars. wait until you see and brace yourself for what we found. and on "trending," the most

actually think about how many people have probably coughed on this steering well, touched the radio buttons without washing their hands. it's kind of gross. to find out what's lurking inside, we rented six vehicles from the top rental companies including sedans, an suv, and a minivan. this minivan is so dirty you can actually see the filth. on the back of the passenger seat here, that's a hairball. i don't even want to ask what's stuck inside of it. take a look at the stain on the back seat of this car i rented. i have no idea what this is. it's all dried up and hardened. how do they send a car out like this? >> that's disgusting. absolutely gross. >> nasty. >> reporter: but it's what you don't see that could actually be dangerous. so we hired these scientists from a certified laboratory armed with gloves and goggles.

let's test. they swab every car from top to bottom. the gear shifts, the door handles, even the gps units. great news, these two cars passed. very clean. but inside this minivan, our test showed dangerous bacteria including something called human bacteroides all over the steering well. translation, fecal matter. >> it's a wakeup call to all of america. >> reporter: dr. robert blatter works in a hospital. >> leading to very bad situations. >> reporter: wait until you hear what we found on this child's car seat we rented. it tested positive for sewage contaminati contamination. yes, sewage contamination. that could end up all over your kids. >> that's completely unacceptable. that's gross. >> reporter: bob bineli is a rental car expert who ran a

franchise for ten years. he says he's not surprised by what we found. i assume they vacuumed it well and washed it well. is that the case? >> you should never assume that the car is clean. most of the time they're just looking inside the cars, peeking in and visually trying to see if it's clean or not and letting it out to the general public. >> reporter: in all, we collected 25 samples. 22 of them tested positive for germs. some more dangerous than others. the dirtiest spots? the steering wheels and the door handles. teeming with bacteria. the rental companies are trying to get these cars out as fast as possible. >> i think they're focused on profit instead of the customer's health and safety first. >> don't worry. there is some good news here. most of the gps units we rented were totally clean. so what can you do to stay healthy? here's the takeaway for you. wipe down all the surfaces in the car with antibacterial wipes. if you see any visible filth,

is pounding up and down the eastern seaboard. >> that's right. arthur made landfall overnight as a category 2. the storm is moving offshore. its impact will be felt all day. nbc's kerry sanders is in kill devil hills. kerry, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning. we are now in the back end of hurricane arthur where i'm standing. we have tremendous gusts. hurricane arthur came ashore in the overnight hours as most people were sleeping and hunkered down if they could not sleep through the storm. the wind, the sound. this morning they're discovering that there has been a fair amount of coastal flooding in spots. you can see the water came ashore with the tidal surge that exceeded four feet. those areas now as the waters begin to recede are extremely dangerous. the authorities are urging people not to go out. if they're in their cars and see what looks like a puddle, don't

drive through it. six inches can quickly turn into four feet. you can go into a dangerous situation quickly. the other thing authorities are urging people up the east coast is to not get in the water because of rip currents. and another reason, this water is really cold. it's now about 69 degrees. the reason it's so cold is when a hurricane comes to shore, it pulls the deep waters to the surface. so it's really cold. >> thank you so much. we're going to get to dylan's forecast in a minute. but first willie has a check of today's other stories we're following. >> good morning, guys. good morning, everyone. happy fourth of july to you. the city of murrieta, california, on edge again as protesters there are vowing to block undocumented immigrants if they try to pull into their city today. miguel almaguer is in murrieta this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning.

proper testers are out early today preparing to do what they did three days ago. turn around any buses that try to come into this community. but this morning they won't be alone. behind the protests, beyond the anger and outrage in communities murrieta, these are the faces at the center of the fight. 90,000 undocumented immigrants from central america are expected to arrive this year alone in the u.s. at a bus depot in texas, most here are released from custody with just the clothes on their back and their small children by their side. this woman carried her 2-year-old daughter here from el salvador. i took a car, crossed the river, walked for awhile, then was caught by immigration. in central america, these public service announcements warn making the treacherous trip to the u.s. is often a deadly one. but the message isn't working. children traveling alone across

the border up 92% from last year. this week buses like the ones turned around in murrieta continues to drop off hundreds of immigrants across the pus. >> a nation without borders is a nation without sovereignty. >> they deserve a chance at freedom. >> reporter: but in murrieta that won't come without a fight. two sides. a nation divided over immigration. city leaders say they have no confirmation that those buses will arrive here today. that's just their inclination. if they do, it could be an explosive fourth of july. >> setting up for another tense day in california. thanks so much. new disturbing claims about the georgia man whose toddler son died in a hot suv. at a detention hearing thursday detectives testified that ross harris was sexting with up to six women while his son cooper was dying in a sweltering vehicle.

also said he had done online research about child deaths in overheated cars, how to survive in prison and looked at sites advocating against having children. harris pleaded not guilty to murder and child cruelty charges. new questions at a va hospital in albuquerque, new mexico. a veteran who collapsed this week died after waiting up to 30 minutes for an balance. ambulance. the cafeteria and the emergency room are only 500 yards apart. officials say the medical personnel performed cpr as they waited for the balance to arrive. ambulance to arrive. the death comes as the department of veterans affairs remains under scrutiny for widespread reports of veterans dying while on waiting lists for treatment. tough times for driving in phoenix late thursday because of this. pushed by high winds, a massive dust storm moved into the area forcing some drivers to pull off the road and wait it out. it grounded some flights and diverted others. the effects stuck around for

husband trevor. good morning. >> good morning. >> oh, my god. look at that adorable baby. first of all, i've got to ask you how are you doing? how is tobias doing as well? >> we're both doing great. >> so cute. trevor, how are you feeling? you're pretty quiet. you've got that steely look of a man who's been through a lot. how you doing? >> i'm doing great. it's been an exciting week. >> i bet it has. so beth, take me there. this is, i think, every woman who's pregnant thinks what if i go in labor at an inappropriate time, even in the car? were you nervous about this? had it ever crossed your mind? >> actually, i was induced with my first two pregnancies so my mom joked at the beginning of my pregnancy i wouldn't know what real labor was like and would end up giving birth in the car. >> it's all fun and games until it happens. i'm marvelled at how calm you remained throughout this. you mentioned you have two

children already. how did you keep so calm in this situation? >> i don't think i really had time to panic. when you're in labor, you don't really think about it. i just did what i had to do. >> we're showing you cuticuties there. trevor, you were behind the wheel. tell me what was going through your mind? >> i'm going to agree with her and say there wasn't a lot of time for panic. i feel we handled it the best we could. >> given the situation. speaking of how you handled it, as i understand it you told trevor not to pull over. you wanted him to keep driving. why did you make that call? >> we were two minutes from the hospital. and he said -- i said the baby's coming. he said, the best i can do is pull over and call 911. thinking about it now, i would have listen, like, what was i

thinking? that wasn't safe driving in a car giving birth. but like i said, when you're in labor you just think about what's going on and what you have to do. so i guess in that point in time i was thinking i just had to get to the hospital. >> i should point out you do have a background, you were studying to be a nurse and midwife. how did you keep your eyes on the road? i think i would have had my eyes glued at what was happening with my spouse. >> it was difficult. i looked over as often as i could. i saw him when he had just come out. i heard him start crying. but i knew i had to pay attention to the road. >> well, congratulations. he's adorable. we're so happy for you and your growing family. so take care and have a happy fourth. >> thank you. you too. >> bye-bye. how cute is that? >> helps to have a little rn background. >> did you have any panic moments on the way to the hospital? with your kid? >> no. >> we didn't either. >> only one of us on this desk

inspired the show. >> women have been the fastest growing segment of prison populations. so the person wearing that orange jump suit is more likely to be a woman. >> reporter: what do you think "orange is the new black" did for you and for the community of women who find themselves in prison? >> if people could manage themselves in my shoes or one of the other women who are depicted in the book, they might think differently about prison. >> reporter: her path to prison reads like a hollywood script. she graduated from prestigious smith college. then like her tv character, had a lesbian relationship with a woman who had her be a courier for a drug ring. she was later busted and served 11 months at this minimum security prison in connecticut. >> maybe i can umpire women's softball. >> reporter: like on the show, she met a diverse cast of inmates. >> the vast majority of women in prison are mothers. and most of them mothers of young children. they were not dangerous.

they were not criminal master minds. they were not drug kingpins. they were really low-level non-violent offenders. they didn't need to be in prison. >> reporter: now she is using her success to keep more women out of prison. fighting on capitol hill for lower mandatory drug sentences and alternatives to prisons for low-risk felons. like mom timyka soto. >> it's the worst fear for a mother to leave their children. >> reporter: soto was facing five years for domestic assault against her boyfriend. instead of prison, she entered a new program called justice home. it lets offenders remain home with their kids and undergo counseling and job training. >> they get the help with those issues, mental health, substance abuse, parenting help. that program is going to cost around $17,000 per woman. and in new york state where we

do our work, it costs $60,000 a year to incarcerate somebody. >> reporter: soto says she's now empowered to go back to school and stay out of jail. >> prison is not education. it's torture. >> reporter: you said most of the women you served with did not need to be in prison. did you? >> i don't defeat my sentence. if we expect prison sentences to prevent crime, then my time in crime was costly to taxpayers and didn't really prevent any new crimes. >> reporter: what would make you successful in the reform? >> if i could see far fewer women and men in prison, i would be very, very happy. >> all right. thank you for that. coming up, guys, are you ready? ed sheeran is here. he's responsible

"frozen?" let it go. >> ooh. >> there are a lot of amazing things caught on camera but this has to be the top five we've seen. it happened in snoqualmie pass near seattle. that is a man there stuck. the peaks reach as high as 3,000 feet. this hiker called 911. i love he was able to call 911 with his hands holding on for dear life when he was stuck on a ledge. he told emergency responders he did not know how much longer he could hang on. just about ten feet between the row t ro rotor and the cliff. is that unbelievable? >> as you look at it, you mention the distance. look how close that rescue helicopter is to the cliff. that's great piloting and great work by the rescue team to get close enough to him in a helicopter and pull him up. we don't have word on injuries, but you see him walking away.

jersey we're seeing those heavier bands of rain. up around 101 miles per hour when it made landfall last night. now we're seeing winds still gusting up around 40 miles per hour in virginia beach to ocean city, maryland seeing gusts up to 30 miles per hour. it's an awful day. we still have hurricane and tropical storm warnings in effect. but conditions will improve from here on out. they are going to go downhill across nantucket, cape cod. that's where we also have warnings in effect. three to five feet above sea level. that's our storm surge in orange here across the barrier islands in north carolina. in yellow we're seeing a one to three foot storm surge. that pushes water on shore and we end up with that flooding. want to point out even if the weather improves and when it improves, watch the rip currents in the water. it will be very dangerous from maine down to 9:10. happy fourth of july! look at these numbers. they're worth celebrating. 68 degrees in the east shore

that the return of a massive fireworks show will help cut down on illegal fireworks in the south bay tonight. for the first time in six years, the fireworks show sponsored by the rotary club will light up the sky above san jose. the event was canceled in 2008 because of a lack of funds. this year, though, the rotary club teamed up with the city and with santa clara county to make it happen. and we have a look at the weather forecast to know if you'll be able to see those fireworks, right after the break. the answer to treating your dog's fleas and ticks is staring you right in the face.

protest from people who live there, but the facility where he's being held is under quarantine because of a norovirus outbreak. hubbard admitted to raping more than 40 women in the '70s and '80s, including some here in the bay area, now he's expected to be released in about three weeks. most of the people forced out by that raging wildfire in napa county are back in their home in time for the holiday. the fire, which started on tuesday, is about 55% contained this morning. the fire has devoured 4,300 acres, but fire officials don't think it will spread much more further. well, let's check your july 4th forecast. good morning to christina. >> good morning to you, scott. taking a live look at san francisco. doesn't it just scream "america!"? we've got a beautiful, beautiful day as we head throughout the bay area. not too hot this year, even in places like antioch. we'll see the low 90s. san jose, low 80s for us, and temperatures are going to be

tonight they are off-limits. for the first time, rider and aquatic park will be closed along with parkside aquatic, which is closed as usual. san jose police and fire are stepping up patrols for today's closure. city leaders this san jose are hoping the return of a massive fireworks show will help cut down on illegal fireworks tonight. for the first time in six years, the fireworks show sponsored by the rotary club will light up the sky above san jose. the event was canceled back in 2008 because of budget cuts. but this year, the rotary club teamed up with the city and with santa clara county to make it happen and for that, we say thank you. and we'll look at the weather forecast right after the break.

>> my outfit today is all made in america. my shoes are made from california. i have everything old, new, borrowed and blue. i have everything purchased and made in america. >> you are doing it again. just started yesterday. >> what do your kids think of doing it? >> i really feel they appreciate it. they are in the stores with me and checking and having fun looking at labels. when you find something made in america they are so excited. it's a nice lesson. i wanted to teach instead of complaining about it go out and do something. >> how practical is it for people to do what she is doing? >> consumer reports did a study and said 60% of americans would pay ten percent more to have products made in the usa. the issue is a lot of folks don't do what ann marie did and read labels or go and find out

whether or not the products they want are made here, made in the usa find american made products mptd it takes leg work to do that. it is going to be more expensive in many cases because of the cheap labor they can get overseas. >> it is right here. i would have to drive another five miles to get the other one. what are you hoping to teach people? >> this year we are doing it again. i want people to be aware of where their purchases are coming from and i want to start to contact the companies and say i didn't find anything in your store from america. is that anything you can reconsider? >> asking for it. >> a big lesson the jobs that stay in this country and are created by us buying here in the u.s. we are trying to get this economy on the road to recovery that will ensure that happens. >> thank you. happy 4th of july. >> really appreciate it.
