the forecast. >> good morning to you, vicky, and to you at home. happy saturday, you made it to the weekend. it's nice out there. not too hot. as we traditionally get warm temperatures fourth of july weekend. right now, mid-50s, comfortable out there, a live look at pacifica, clouds out there, and emeryville, socked in with clouds, keeping you cool, and meanwhile, sunol, sunny per usual, a hot spot in the afternoon hours with the lack of the cooling clouds. as we head throughout the day, expect those cooling clouds to remain at the coast until noon, and we'll see the sun come through. we're starting out mostly clear, though, in most inland valley spots. plenty of sun for everybody, a building breeze, and tonight, comfortable evening temperatures, great conditions for barbecuing, but we have a drought going. if you have a barbecue, don't

leave it until the fire is completely out. now, let's talk about where we are headed temperature-wise today, and the microclimate separation will be dramatic. 6 3 in sfas. the east shore today at 78 degrees, but out in the trivalley in the extreme east bay at 93 degrees, 86 in the south bay, peninsula at 80 with a warmer sunday coming your way. diving into the forecast coming up, but now back to you, vicky. a dazzling display over bay area skies celebrating the nation's birthday. in the south bay, the fireworks show returned to downtown san jose in celebration of the rotary club's 100th year downtown. here's a look at the lights over san francisco for the annual fourth of july show, made it through the fog there. the skies lit up over oakland for its annual fourth of july celebration. along with the professional and legal displays comes the danger of people shooting illegal

fireworks in neighborhoods and fields. firefighters all over the bay area were on high alert last night, and in one case in oakland, illegal fireworks may have killed a man. fireworks hitting a power line may have caused an electrocution. when police arrived, two men had been electrocuted, and one died instantly and the other taken to a nearby hospital. the man's condition unknown at this point. >> could have been fireworks, still investigating. >> the condition of the victim, as we said, unknown this morning. a fire burned two acres of grass at cal state east bay in hayward last night. officials believe fireworks were the cause of this small blaze starting at the front gates of the school. firefighters contained the fire before it damaged any of the structures on campus. in concord, a fire in a strip mall believed to be fireworks related as well. a witness reported seeing a

bottle rocket land on a storage unit around midnight. fire officials say that storage unit was end gulfed in flames and destroyed. investigators say this fire could have been very big if not for the quick action taken by fire teams who happened to be nearby dealing with a brush fire. no arrests have been made, and the official cause of the fire is under investigation. a string of dark years is over in san jose. fireworks lit up the sky for the first time in six years. today's in the bay was at the discovery museum where thousands celebrated the fourth of july. >> reporter: a moment six years in the making after a lot of hard work and fire power. all for people like the murcotto family. >> you have to have fireworks for the fourth of the july. that's apple pie. >> reporter: this day at this park was tradition until it was cancelled in 2008. >> every fourth of july, we all knew that if we were not going

to be anywhere, it would be here. >> yeah. seriously nowhere to go, so we stayed home and looking to see where someone was throwing fireworks from their backyard. >> reporter: now nankful the rotary club spent time and money getting a tradition back, a two-year process, $200,000 raised, and some from santa clara county. pyroteches prepared 1400 shells in all preparing to launch them 500 feet into the air with a comet-like effect. >> we have over a hundred shells like that. i've never seen anything like this. >> reporter: many could not wait to see them, hoping to restart their tradition. >> nice for the public. you know, it shows somebody kirs. >> reporter: picking up like it never left. to get the show back was vital, and celebrating together like this is what it's all about. ian cole, bay area news.

fog watch in san francisco last night, the annual guessing game of just how clear the skies would be for the show. today's in the bay went to wait it out. >> reporter: thousands crowded the water front to enjoy the bay area's largest fireworks show, a few barges not far from the shoreline lit up the night sky, though you see it from the city, there's nothing like being up close. tonight, i got to see it up close and personal, and so it was, like, triple size. >> reporter: not only triple sized up close, but ear-popping too. >> it was really loud. just scary sometimes, but i had to get over it, and it was really fun. >> reporter: the fireworks show were in jeopardy earlier as the darn san francisco fog rolled in at 7:00 and threatened to put a damper on things. >> there's a lot of wind. >> reporter: the family just moved to san francisco from philadelphia, and they didn't

freemont here. we want to see your pictures too. post them on our facebook page, tweet us, or e-mail us at ic@nbcbayarea.com. a fire burning scorched acres, and 1 10 % contained. it started at 9:30 last night burning off state highway 28 near the southeast shore, and a mandatory evacuation ordersed for 30 homes in the golden bear estate and six bulldozers and 25 fire engines at the scene. avoid the area if you can, highway 128 closed between winters and highway 121. a second suspect in custody in connection with a violent home invasion robbery and sexual assault. he is 16 years old. the home invasion happened early tuesday morning in east san jose. investigators say two teens targeted an elderly couple who

live at the home. one or both sexually assaulted the woman, and the robbers then stole the suv and crashed it into a nearby house. police arrested a 15-year-old at that scene, and this morning, they arrested the driver of the stolen car. dozens of undocumented immigrants from central america are in southern california this morning after crossing the border in texas. a plane carrying women and children landed yesterday evening. they boarded busses headed for immigration facilities, and the families are fleeing violence in countries like guatemala and el salvador. the arrival followed a hectic day in murrieta, and hundreds of people gathered to protest the arrival of the immigrants there. >> it's ridiculous we take on the world's issues. not every problem is from our wallet. >> that's why we are here with the people, gathering with other people because they are humans. every human have their right, and even though they are

clear, and parts of massachusetts are getting pounded with rain as arthur rolls up the east coast, flash flooding in places leaving cars washed out and people knee deep in water. strong wind combined with six to eight inches of rain closed roads, and the tropical storm warning has been issued were cape cod. arthur caused only slight damage when it rolled through north carolina, but 20,000 homes and businesses still lost power. arthur has now been downgraded to a tropical storm. check your freezer. we have a major recall this tole you about this morning involving foster farms chicken sickening hundreds of people. foster farms produced the chicken in fresno, and they are no longer selling the tainted meat, but earlier this year was sold at safeway and costco. there's a statement saying health and safety is their top priori priority, but some customers are

"today in the bay"'s scott button was there to meet the vet in a parade celebrating our veterans. >> reporter: it had just about everything you typically see in a fourth of july parade. with some thing or someone extra special along for the ride. the san jose rose, white, and blue parade honored this man. >> thank you for your service. >> reporter: world war ii service lachman joe bell. >> i appreciate your service; sir. >> vietnam? >> yes, sir. >> reporter: he served as the

hours, still, we are looking towards the low to mid 80s, and that's it. hayes valley, overcast sky in san francisco, and i'll show you the difference in sunol right now. completely clear out there. it's a hot spot. temperatures today in the low 90s. the reason why is because we'll keep low clouds confined to the immediate coastment inland spots burn off early, and as a result of that, temperatures are five degrees warmer, noticeably warmer. here's what's happening out there. this is the satellite from this morning. low clouds out there, especially in the north bay, san francisco as well, cool ocean breeze coming in, and it's going to shut off for a while today and pick up throughout your evening hours. this is what we expect, 60s, 70s today, along the peninsula as well, on the warm side, trivalley 80s and 90s on the way. 80 degrees on the peninsula, 63 degrees in san francisco. 71, pleasant p conditions on the

there in the background, that is san francisco, and christina loren will be along shortly to tell us when the fog lifts. good morning, and thank you so much for joining us this saturday, july 5th, i'm vicky nguyen, and happy to have you here, and here she is, meteorologist christina loren with a look at the microclimates, when they will separate, and the rest of the weekend's forecast. >> hey, good morning to you. happy saturday, vicky, happy saturday to you at home. temperatures this morning in the 50s. actually really comfortable out there. if you're someone who likes to go for a jog or an early morning bike ride, walk the dog, really nice out there, and that's how we're going to see our mornings as he head throughout the next few days. beautiful conditions, overcast start, and fog burns off in the value lease. at 9:00 a.m., sticking to the coast, though, until lunchtime, and as a result, we get much cooler temperatures up and down the coast along the peninsula and hot today in the valley spots, 80s and 90s in the trivalley today, but, yeah, a live look across the bay area,

you see here we put all the microclimates side by side. mostly overcast across the board, but the welcomed sign this time of the morning, that chose you, we'll see it cool today as we begin the afternoon hours, waking up completely clear. you got to worry about the triple digits, but today looking good, the 70s along the inner bay, 60s at the coast, 80s inland. 65 degrees tonight at 7:30. the a's, the number one team in baseball at home for a while, and tonight, weather likely impacts that game. 6 5 degrees at 7: 05, clear sky, wind out of the west, northwest, at 10-15 miles per hour, so if you watch the game, watch the flags to blow out towards right center fields and gusts strong enough to potentially pick up and carry that ball. we'll keep you updated on a little warm upcoming your way for sunday and monday.

county scorched 1,000 acres, 10% contained this morning. leaders say the fire start the at 9:30 last night, burning off state highway 128 at monticello dam. a mandatory evacuation for 30 homes in golden bear state, and six bulldozers and 25 engines at the scene. avoid the area of highway 128 closed between winters and highway 121. a somber day after fourth of july celebrations in philadelphia this morning. four children dead and more than 40 people out of their homes after a massive residential fire that may have been caused by fireworks. the fire started just before 3:00 this morning on the west side, eight homes destroyed before firefighters brought the blaze under control. officials confirm four children were killed. four other people were injured, and a shelter has been set up for the 42 people displaced by

the flames. the official cause of the fire is under investigation. in los angeles, a firy crash in a high speed chase split a tesla in two sending four people to the hospital. it unfolded early yesterday morning. police chased a car they say was stolen from a dealership. the driver of the tesla hit a honda carrying five people before hitting a light pole splitting the car in two and set it on fire. the back half was in a nearby synagogue. the driver was thrown from the car and is in critical condition as is one victim from the park car it hit. two police officers were hurt during the chase. dozens of undocumented imgrants from central america are in southern california this morning after crossing the border. a plane carrying women and children landed yesterday evening in san diego. the immigrants boarded the bus headed for immigration facilities in the san diego area. they are families escaping violence in countries like

military service members and spouses took the oath on the fourth of july. they represented 15 countries including jamaica, guatemala, and china. expect to pay more at the corral train station in the 49ers's game and other events in sap that clara. thursday, officials approved a policy allowing to charge up to dollar $25 for parking, up from the $5 for park and ride. it's a similar agreement they have with the sap center in downtown san jose where parking fees go audiotape at the do or dawn station at sharks's games and special vefts. this fee increases two hours before a game or special event at levi stadium. it starts august 1st. another bay area city declaring independence from sty ro foam food containers. you have to find something es to package food, and the stores

all around right now, and the reason why is because we have a full blanket of low clouds. mostly at the coast today. that will be the scenario. we'll see the burn off at 9:00 a.m. in the inland valleys, and warm as a result. 86 in the south bay, 80 in the peninsula, and 63 for the san francisco, and the hot spot, trivalley, at 63 degrees. we'll keep it coming in for sunday and monday, and we then cool off. the microclimate weather forecast coming up in just moments.

happy saturday to you. hopefully you had a great independence day. if you want to keep the good times coming in, we have great weather for you. if you want to go outdoors today, i have to tell you off the bat it's a little bit warm in your inland valley spots and a little on the cool side in san francisco. it's one of the days right now everything is about uniform temperature-wise, but we'll see the separation come in right around lunchtime, and the reason why, of course, these clouds

burn off in san jose throughout the next couple hours. hayes valley, san francisco still a fair amount of cloud cover and fog out there as well at the immediate coastment meanwhile, clear here, but you see here atop the hillside, a marine layer in your east bay valley spots. good news. socked in with fog, and he's the deal, coastal drizzle out there, hazy valleys to start the day. if you're headed out today, grab the sunscreen. we expect a lot of sunshine across the bay area. that breeze will build in the evening hours as it has over the past couple nights. we'll get fog as well. temperatures will be really comfortable as we get into the evening, but this is basically the story of the day, and for the next couple days, temperatures are going to climb a little bit, we'll cut off the low clouds, a little bit more so for your sunday, and even more so for monday. really, not talking about extremes in the forecast throughout the next couple days, and that's the good news.
