an alleged gunman in custody. he held police at bay for three hours just outside houston. after killing his two daughters and his two sons. he also allegedly shot his own 15-year-old daughter, who is in critical condition. more details on the tragedy and what is described suburb. >> reporter: police found a grizzly scene in texas after a situation escalated to mass murder. six are dead including 4 children all shot to death at home. one female was juried but was able to tell authorities who shot the family and where the suspect was planning to go next. police were able to catch up with the suspect a few miles away from the shooting scene trapping him with no way to cape. >> he was looking for a way out of the neighborhood and he went straight for the cul-de-sac.

cops zoomed by and just trapped him in there. >> after setting up a perimeter authorities brought in police and swat officers. a large s.w.a.t. vehicle rammed into the suspect's car and a second vehicle went to the back. the man was armed and at times was holding a gun to his head. after several intense hours of talking with hostage negotiators he surrendered to police. the standoff is over but the investigation into why seven were shot and six killed is just beginning. nbc news. president obama is in texas this morning for a second day. he had a pair of meetings with governor rick perry who raised concern and gave suggestions on the influx of unaccompanied, undocumented minors entering the u.s. peter alexander spoke to the governor. >> the president can send a message without even going to congress. he can peck up the phone to the d.o.d. and have 1,000 national guard troops temporarily assigned to the border, and the message gets sent very quickly.

>> i'm joined by tracie potts in washington d.c. are any of governor perry's suggestions being put into action? >> it doesn't seem these meetings have caused a breakthrough. they're at odds over how to deal with this. they did sit down together for a short period of time, but we're told they were both very frank over their different opinions about how to deal with the situation. >> he has shown he can't even go 242 miles to the texas border. >> how can you have a humanitarian crisis and not want to go see for yourself? >> i'm not interested in photo ops. i'm interested in solving the

problem. >> the president and rick perry had two short conversations. perry wants drones and national guard troops at the border and policy changes. deport immigrants, including children, faster. lawmakers today will question homeland security, health and human services and the state department about the president's $3.7 billion request for emergency funds to deal with the flood of children from central america. >> i cannot hope to perpetuate an unacceptable human crisis. >> reporter: in guatemala homeland security secretary jay johnson signed two agreements to help get immigrants out of the u.s. and back across the border. >> more on that discussion with president obama and governor perry. governor perry says the u.s. needs to roll back policies that he says allow immigrants to come into the country and when they're caught they're allowed to enter society before they have to go to court, before they have to go before a judge.

>> tracie potts, thank you for the latest on that. part of the discussion tracie tells us about is one community in texasmenting to keep imgrants from entering their. they're banning the processing and detention of undocumented immigrants caught crossing the border illegally. now, when the ordinance passed 6-2, there was a round of applause at the city council meeting. opponents of the ordinance say this sends a message of hate. violence surges in the middle east as rocket fire rages on between israel and the gaza strip. 80 people are believed dead after three days on the gauze wra strip. the military says it's targeting hamas militants. the border. it has thousands of troops long israeli leaders are now discussing a ground invasion that will quickly be approaching here, and the tension is spreading elsewhere. in the capital riot police arresting dozens of anti-israel protesters during a rally in support of gaza. hundreds of protesters gathered

near the israeli embassy to condemn the offensive on the gaza strip. he was reportedly said get away from me, you pig. the judge called donald sterling disturbing and asked him to stop making comments about his wife. wednesday was the third day of the probate trial that will decide the future of the lippers. the 80-year-old sterling vowed to spend the rest of his life suing the nba. he also said his wife has deceived him, and he didn't authorize the sale of the team. that was after he made racist remarks that caused the nba to remove him afters the owner. heavy rain in japan. there was a sudden landslide in central japan. a 12-year-old boy was killed. two other deaths in the region are being blamed on the tropical storm. meteorologist rafael from nbc 4
