well, good morning everybody zimplt i'm dara brown. there's new details about the man that went on a murderous rampage outside houston. he will be in court this morning and faces charges of murdering four children and their parents. meanwhile a wounded teen that alerted police to the gunman is being hailed as a ro. >> reporter: court documents show ronald lee haskell, the man accused in wednesday's deadly shooting near houston is in the middle of a divorce and the six people he was charged of killing were all members of his estranged wife's family. >> it breaks my heart. i've been here 37 years and nothing like this has ever happened. >> reporter: a home in spring texas is where haskell is believed to have shot up wednesday afternoon. tied up five children and two adults inside and when they couldn't tell him where his estranged wife was he shot each execution style.

a 15-year-old girl survived though, called police and identified the shooter as her ex-uncle. >> she was shot in the head. and she was coherent enough to tell us who did it. what he was driving and was able to give us a street name of where the rest of the family lived. it was our understanding he was going to go to the location and kill more folks there. >> police captured on a neighbor's cell phone video got to the next location first though and after a chase through the neighborhood cornered the suspect. >> he was looking for a way out of the neighborhood or something and went straight for that cul-de-sac and the cops trapped him in there. >> reporter: at one point they used armored vehicles to sandwich his car. the standoff lasted more than three hours until haskel came out arms up without resistance but also without saying why all of this happened. chris clak clackum, nbc news.

president obama is back in washington today where pressure is building to take action on the immigration crisis. homeland security secretary jeh johnson is warning congress that time and money is running short. i'm joined now by tracie potts in washington. there's word of possible legislation in the works. right? >> we know of two bills that are moving through congress that could possibly get done before their august break, and you mentioned jeh johnson who has been on the road dealing with this. thoughed he today he is headed back down to the border. homeland security secretary jeh johnson heads to the border today visiting a new mexico detention center and meeting texas officials after his two day trip to guatemala. in between he came back to washington to tell lawmakers immigration and border officials will run out of money starting next month. >> we're go to have to go to some very dramatic harsh form or reprogramming. >> reporter: lawmakers are working a deal to grant president obama's $3.7 billion

emergency request in exchange for allowing the government more flexibility to quickly deport children from central america and possibly put ankle bracelets on some immigrants here to ensure they show up for court. the government admitted almost half the children that cross the border don't. it's overwhelming small towns like mcallen, texas. >> we didn't expect people at the bus station being dropped off by the border patrol. at this point people are being released from federal custody. they're technically on their own. >> reporter: president obama is still defending his decision not to visit the border. >> rather than wage another political stunt that wastes time and wastes taxpayer money, i have a better idea. do something. a couple of arizona lawmakers are doing something. jeff lake and john mccain are behind one of those pieces of legislation. they argue that until parents in central america see lots of

kids, plane loads of kids coming back to their native countries, they're not going to make the connection and understand that their money sending them here is being wasted. dara. >> tracie potts in washington. thank you so much, tracie. house speaker john boehner has announced the details of the republican-led lawsuit against president obama. speaker boehner says it will focus on the delay of the -- while in austin yesterday the president talked about the republicans' threat to sue him. >> you should hear some of them. oh, impeach him. really? really? for what? you're going to sue me for doing my job? hundreds of rockets are being fired back and fort between israel and the gaza strip. today is the fourth day in a row israel pressed on with an arial assault.

at least 98 palestinians are dead. most of them civilians. and israeli military officials say lebanon fired a loan rocket toward their country. it hit just outside of a farming community close to the border. president obama spoke with the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu on the phone yesterday. he offered help for negotiating a cease fire between israel and hamas. we have more on the continued violence in the middle east. >> reporter: another night, more strikes and a rising death toll. before dawn, one of those strikes hit this home. the target destroyed was the home of a suspected hamas militant. he wasn't there. his neighbors next door were and they paid the price. today he and his family came back to sift through what remains of their home grabbing food they can't afford to leave behind. his dad's heart medicine still where it was when they ran out the door. the israeli's fired a warning

shot he told me and then minutes later tlefled the building while they were run agoway. in the chaos he managed to save his 20-year-old pregnant sister-in-law. resting in bed surrounded by a paper trail of her journey over the years to conceive a baby that cost her the family savings. her first sonogram and a lab test with a handwritten note from the doctor saying congratulations. she saved all of them to one day show her son and tell him look at everything we did to have you. she says. 3 years of trying, thousands of dollars in debt. last night she lost her home and in the shock she miscarried and lost her baby. today the family that lived in the same building for years is scattered across gaza taking refuge with neighbors and relatives. some of the children still visibly in shock unable to understand the war around them. nbc news gaza city. lebron james's decision to leave cleveland was one of the

welcome back everyone. showers and storms are possible across the rockies. places like denver and the southwest of the four corners region. the heat builds today. temperatures between 85 and 90 degrees already in seattle, and that trend will continue as we head throughout the weekend. take a look at these highs. 100 for tomorrow in boise. near 90 in seattle. 94 degrees in portland. down the rest of the west coast looking good. 81 degrees with some sunshine in los angeles. the heat could turn dangerous as it continues all weekend long.
