from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." well good morning everyone, happy friday, 4:30 in the morning, i'm scott mcgrew. >> happy friday. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> 4:30 in the morning. >> that's why. tlots get to this morning, let's check the forecast, take it away, christina. >> equal, opposite. >> good morning to you, 4:30, and you know what, we have interesting weather that we don't typically see in the summer time. here in northern california, showers, even some thunder, look at that, realtime lightning in the vicinity of yuba city this morning. here in the bay area for us, we're going to see the activity, especially in the north bay throughout the morning. you can see very light cells

sleeping through. overall, don't grab an umbrella. it's going to head out of town. throughout the early morning hours, and it's going to feel more comfortable today. i have your interesting changes for your microclimate coming up plus a supermoon as well. you can already see it out there. he's a super guy and he has your drive. >> me and the supermoon, separate. just so you know. that's like a high school movie. always a nice drive across the bay. easy flow here as well on the live camera. we have your typical spots for construction. san leandro we'll have that. see the rest of the bay moves nicely including oakland as you travel out of san leandro and also on the peninsula side. that's why you -- where you'll find the construction zone. a little slow on our sensors just now. now further south over at mission boulevard, you have the overnight construction, you

can't fully connect between 680 and 880 until about 5:00, 5:30 until we get the crews clear, and that is in the middle. looking over here for the south bay, the rest is moving nicely in the northbound direction and 880, typical construction zone there as well. we're working on the interchange, we're hoping for it, back to you guys. new this morning, flames force two people to run from their san leandro apartment overnight. one man severely burned on his face and chest. he's in the hospital this morning. woman taken to the hospital as well. she was having problems breathing. suffered smoke inhalation, this happened at an apartment on 159th avenue. bay fair center, the battalion says it appears to have started in the kitchen. luckily they didn't spread to any units in the building. today the questions surrounding the sierra lamar murder case will be answered. 2,000 pages will be released

today. and "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live outside the courthouse in san jose, what does this mean for the defendant, antolin garcia torres? >> reporter: well we are waiting to see what that grand jury transcript says about antolin garcia torres and the case against him, laura, the documents will be handed over on the steps of the courthouse. 2,000 pages of information. the judge deciding that the public's right to know overrules the concerns that he could not get a fair trial if people know what's in those documents. in that 2,000 page grand jury report to be released today, we may find out why antolin garcia torres was indicted for the murder of sierra lamar even though her body was not found. her supporters continue to look for signs of her. her parents expect her to come home alive. the sheriff's department has said over and over that they believe she is based on dna evidence found in his car. legal analysts steven clark says

that grand jury report may reveal why it is that the d.a. believes the teen was murdered. >> we will learn a lot about this dna evidence we've been hearing about. where was the dna located in garcia torres's vehicle? what kind of dna was it? all of that is going to be made crystal clear by these grand jury transcripts. >> reporter: now clark says that a grand jury report is by nature very one-sided meaning that the district attorney's office presents their case of what they believe to be true. the defense though cannot refute, cannot give their side and cannot cross examine any of the witnesses. speaking of the witnesses, we may learn more about the three other women that garcia torres is accused of assaulting and attempting to kidnap and the d.a. presented the grand jump with a pattern of behavior to bolster their case. the attorney wanted to keep the report sealed saying there's no way he could get a jury this didn't know all of the details

of the trial if this was all revealed. when we talk about the public's right not to know, not just wanting to know the salacious details, it's the searchers who want to try to find her and bring her home for her family. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> they've been looking for quite some time, thank you. it's 4:35 right now, san francisco police want to the talk to anyone who witnessed a brutal beating near at&t park yesterday. it sent a woman to the hospital. a woman who tried to break up a fight between two men near second and kings streets was punched in the face and knocked out. this morning she's in the hospital with serious head injuries. another man was treated at the scene. happened around 6:00 last night. couple hours after the giants-a's game last night. it's unclear if the people involved were at the game, so far, no arrests have been made. now the fight happened one day after bryan stow was awarded $15 million. he was brutally beat an outside dodgers stadium three years ago. in san jose, we're waiting to learn more about a woman

stabbed several times near the plant shopping center last night. witnesses say she may have been homeless. the woman was taken to the hospital. she's expected to be okay. police did detain a man at the scene as a suspect, but they say they don't know why he may have stabbed her. this all happened near the corner of barn heart avenue. palo alto police beefing up security after a elderly couple's home was rocked it. happened off of el camaino. a burglar hopped over a gate and removed a window screen to get inside. the suspect stole a briefcase and rummaged through the couple belongings. they woke up to find the mess left behind. the couple was not hurt in that incident. we continue to watch growing tensions in the middle east as more israeli air strikes and palestinian workers scrambling for cover. those rescuers were searching for survivors of a collapsed

building in gaza at the time. at least 90 palestinians, including many children have been killed since the israeli army launched its offensive against hamas earlier this week. so far, the israeli military says it has hit more than 1100 targets, most of them it claims are rocket launching sites. obama administration says it will soon run out of money to deal with the crisis at the border unless lawmakers act quickly. today homeland security secretary jay johnson will visit a new mexico detention center and meet with texas leaders. yesterday, he was in washington to tell lawmakers immigration and border officials will run out of cash by mid-september if congress does not approve the president's request for nearly $4 billion. in the men time, president obama is still defending his decision not to visit the border while in texas. >> after i better idea, do something. >> the president assured the american people the border was

secure, but clearly, it is not. >> reporter: republicans in congress want quicker deportations which could be part of a compromise between lawmakers. in the south bay there's growing concern this morning about the west nile virus and the treatment being used to get rid of it. santa clara county vector control says they found nearly 300 infected birds so far this year. that's more than three times all the number of birds found entirely last year. they say the drought coupled with warm temperatures could be partly to blame. the county has already fogged ten times, and some people lives in the -- living in the area are worried about the increased use of chemicals. 30 years of fogging, there's not a documented case of the spray hurting anyone. >> watch for standing water. they really attract to that. >> it is. let's check the forecast with christina loren, see how we're looking. >> yeah, and you know what, those mosquitos like to come out at dusk and dawn. those are the times you really to want watch it.

and i can tell you, they love this humidity as well. happy friday to you. last three hours show you we have a little bit of activity rolling through northern california, some thunderstorm action as well. if you're headed this way, a lot will be headed to tahoe this weekend. you're going to drive through this. things will change rapidly. over the course of this morning, as you watch "today in the bay," your conditions are going to change. it's going to be a cool morning for us weather wise. subtropical moisture surge continuing to take place. what's going to happen is onshore flow comes back today. and it's going to come back strong. as a result, we'll see a lot of fog at the coast, sunny day inland and all that humidity, that monsoonal moisture will take a hike out of here. as a result, you'll see more sunshine and you'll feel more comfortable. 76 along the peninsula. you get that humidity, it makes it feel warmer. 82 in the south bay today, and 65 degrees in san francisco. a lot of people in town and they are going to get treated to a

lovely weekend. 68 degrees on the east shore, 80 for the north bay, and 83 degrees today in the tri-valley. i'll show you the weekend numbers in a moment. we're going to talk about what's happening, including the super moon, first let's check your drive on a friday morning, here's mike. good morning, folks looking towards san jose northbound 101 was smooth, light volume of traffic here as well as the rest of your south bay. on the maps, marked out in the middle of the map the construction zone 880 at 280. slowing shows up at the interchange and they do sometimes have that connecter closed. i don't that confirmation from chp. be prepared far detour if that is the case. south of there though, and you've heard about this, but we're going to remind you that 17 is open after yesterday's closure. but we do have a lot of repair work going on for the pavement and the guardrail. yesterday's closure lasted until 5:00:30d p.m. over ten hours of closures you guys, that's a tough, tough drive to and from santa cruz yesterday. tri-valley shows a little bit of slowing west 580 as you're

grows nationwide, many bay area companies are taking another look at their drug testing policies. right now, all 50 states allow employers to restrict marijuana use. employees are often surprised that even though marijuana use may be legalized in their state, they can still face sanctions or dismissal for testing positive. one employer we spoke to said they have no intention of changing their company policy. others say as pot becomes more mainstream, drug test willing become a thing of the test. >> if it does become legal in california, that's going to be, how can you, how can you test in that point? its become legal. it's like alcohol. >> some changes might include testing for physical jobs like construction or other dangerous work. the. the company behind an app that let users aix off their parking spots is suspending its service. last month, san francisco city attorney sent monkey parking a cease and desist letter. the city threatened to sue saying the business model is

coaster ride on thursday faming sharply at the open following europe's lead on worries about the sovlen si in portugal. repeat of last summer's european debt crisis. today, europe seems to be on better footing. folks are thinking about the weekend. the dow down as much as 180 points at the start of the day. closed down just 70 points. closed to 16,915. the nasdaq lost 22 to 4396. both the dow and the nasdaq on track for the worst week in months. volkswagen meantime telling dealers in the u.s. to stop selling some 15 golf models. the problem with the front stabilizer could make it hard for drivers to control the card. the issue affects 2500 vehicles, vw says some of them to already have been sold. the 2015 galt doesn't go on sale until august this year. so a lot of ones on the road may
