from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." well good morning everyone, it is monday, once again, 4:30 in the morning, i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to, i'm anticipating a hot one today, christina. >> oh yeah, it is going to be warm. today will be the warmest of the week. good morning to you, happy monday. i want to help you get out that front day or a good note this morning. right now we have some really, really nice weather out there. 59 in san francisco, 48 in half-moon bay, just an hour to the east, you get into livermore, 67 degrees this morning. so got some big changes soming

to your forecast. hottest day of the week. the place to be if you can get out there, the beach. full forecast coming up in just a few moments, stick around, first though, let's check your drive on a back to work monday. good morning christina. westbound 580 at dublin, you can see the silhouette of one of the workers picking up the cones. as the crew moves, big slow down. now another live camera, that's loosening up out of the roadway. we have lanes on either side of the fast track lanes, looks like we don't have one of the lanes on either side. we have one lane closed on either side of the fast track lane. that's a typical pattern. lanes off to the right just reopened. towards the taillights bast 98, all right, then further south at the top of the screen, i did see flashing lights continuing to travel south. overnight a full closure around davis that reopened some of the

lanes, but we still have construction crews towards davis. prepare for those to keep moving as they continue to clear, back to you. we are following a situation escalating in the middle east. israel's military says it has downed a drone along its southern coastline. military says that drone came from gaza. so far, no confirmation from gaza this morning. it's the first time israel has come across a drone since last week when it launched a full blown offensive against gaza. since tuesday, they've launched 1500 air strikes. israeli military says the strikes are in response to heavy rocket fire from gaza. so far, no israelis have been killed in those attacks, mainly because the military's missile defense system is shooting them down. >> we're using missile defense to protect our civilians and they're using their civilians to protect their missiles. that's basically the difference.

they're embedding these rockets that they're sending wholesale into our city. trying to kill as many as they can. >> despite international pressure to pressure to end the air strikes, benjamin netanyahu says it could last a week and are prepared for all possibilities. that includes a ground invasion in gaza. department of homeland security officer fired shots at a truck carrying palestinians in california. it was posted on the jewishjournal.com. investigators say the people in the truck were displayed a palestinian flag as they drove past a rally in westwood. someone ripped the flag away, the men in the truck got out to get it, but instead, got into a fight. at least four people were arrested. it's unclear why the homeland security officer fired. meantime the smart phone app yo which normally is used to send friends a quick greeting is

being warned to warn israeli about missile attacks. the developers say it'll spread realtime information about what's happening in their country. meanwhile, palestinians are using #airstrikes on twitter to warn others. new video of cay owes on the streets -- chaos on the streets of argentina. this was after the company lost to germany in the world cup final. this happened after vandals interrupted a peaceful rally celebrating the team's success in the tournament. the clash sent parents and kids running for safely. the vandals threw rocks at police, destroyed store fronts and looted businesses. 20 officers were hurt, 60 people as well. closer to home, coast guard is reiterating warnings about playing in the bay. they spent hours rescuing wind surfers yesterday. the coast guard had to rescue 25

people from the water near kriszy field in san francisco. the coast guard says winds died down stranding them out in the bay, but they all made it back to land safely. the santa clara county sheriff's office says someone claiming to be a deputy and scamming people out of money. it's happened to a dozen people in the south bay. for instance, rosemary got a phone call, someone who said he was with the sheriff's office. now he told her she'd be arrested for not responding to a grand jury summons. he gave her what he claimed was his badge and warrant number. she was skeptical, so she called the sheriff's department. >> she did say that 11 people had already shown up at the sheriff's department that had received this same phone call. >> the department confirms there have been several scams involving people claiming to be deputies been but would not

elaborate specifically on the call that rose mare received. palo alto police put a stop to an attack. this man attacked her at wary park on dartmouth street friday morning. described as middle eastern. about 5'3", 170 pounds with short salt and pepper hair. the victim was sitting on a park bench when a man started to talking to her. she was able to get away to call police. san francisco police looking for a man with a knife. he's been on the run. someone stabbed a woman yesterday moerng at the bart plazon 24th and mission. the woman was stabbed at least once in the lower body, she was taken to the hospital. it's unclear how badly she was hurt. today we could hear what a 911 dispatcher today o an alleged murder. john smith of pasadena killed three people inside a home on saturday. then came outside and fired at

police. he surrendered after a tense 20 minute phone call with 911 dispatcher who got help from a crisis negotiator. police plan to release a recording of the conversation later today. investigators say a wild fire in shasta county that burned down eight homes. police arrested 37-year-old freddie alexander smoke iii over the weekend. cal fire says smoke was delivering material when the exhaust set dry grass on fire. so far the fire's burned 4,000 acres and is only 15% contained. he was charged with a recklessly causing a fire and marijuana cultivati cultivation. meanwhile firefighters in fairfield keeping an eye on hot spots making sure this fire doesn't flair up. it jumped highway 12, raced towards several homes, firefighters called in for back-up. they were able to put the flames out before any homes were

damaged. >> it's very dry. the drought, the late rains had vegetation taller than normal. everything around it is stressed. and it burns hotter, faster, quicker. and then we've seen that in the past. >> the cause of the fire under investigation. officials are looking into a homeless camp. >> hotter, faster, quicker. comes to the weather as well. i want to check on the forecast as we take a peek outside, it's a beautiful start to our monday morning. how are we looking whether wise christina? >> good morning eastbound at home, thanks for waking up on a back to business monday. couple things to point out right off the bat, today is going to be the hottest day of the week, and then we'll steadily drop temperatures each and every day through friday. 62 in san jose. 59 in san francisco, strong high pressure in control for today. means temperatures are going to peek, we're going to be close to the triple digits, maybe even bypassing 100 degrees out in antioch. throughout the day today, we're

going to feel some really hot air move in. it'll be very short lived. by tomorrow, temperatures dropping five to ten degrees. highs today, 92 in the south bay, 87 on the peninsula. 71 in san francisco, and 92 degrees out in the north bay. of course the warm spot as per usual, 98 degrees out in the tri-valley. we'll take a closer look at more changes coming your way as we head further into your workweek. right now your drive, taking monday morning mike inouye. good monday morning, crews showed you silhouettes as they left the screens last shot. look how clear it is. the distraction is gone here. look at the map though. we have slowing still going on through the earlier construction zone, approaching el charro. this is nothing unusual and the rest of the bay looking nice. as far as the speed sensors are concerned, we'll call it a couple things i did spot on the live cameras, san mateo bridge, west 92, flashing lights along

the flat section, lost in the distance, however, no injuries reported for that span. we'll look on the foster city side and see if the lights have made their way over. we don't see them coming over just yet. again, no disruption to the flow, just saw flashing lights and i'm going to track it and make its way across the bay. meanwhile we had crews traveling north and just removed that set of cones. you have one more lane now getting ready for the morning commute. there about midspan and should clear from the bridge quickly in about another five minutes. meanwhile, no slowing there, that's better news. mike, if you're headed to downtown concord, expect some delays for a while. for the next two months, crews will be replacing the sewer line. the delays will be on willow pass road. work will be done during the week between 8:00 in the morning and 6:00 p.m. it will be open to traffic, but some lanes may be closed as crews work on the project which is expected to last until the

you're watching "today in the bay." welcome back everyone, and a very good monday morning to you. let's take a peek outside. what a beautiful vista of the bay bridge. nice way to start our monday morning. it's 4:4:more pressure on congress today as lawmakers try to solve the crisis at the border. local governments are pushing back on the obama administration's efforts to provide temporary shelter for thousands of children and family streaming across the u.s. border. coming in faster than government officials can process them. residents do not want to shelter them in their backyards. >> the bottom line is the community doesn't want it, the representatives from congress don't want it, the department of

the sun comes up, midlevel and high cloud cover to paint a really pretty sky. and look at temperatures this morning, happy monday whereby thanks for waking up with us each and every day of the week. i take the forecast very seriously as you know. today's one of the days i'd also ask you to doed so if you work outside, it's going to be hot inland. san jose, mostly clear start. very little cloud cover here in the san francisco area as well. and as a result, it will be very, very warm today is. these are your temperatures. really boosting up those numbers by five to ten degrees from yesterday's high. 92 for the south bay, peninsula's at 87 degrees. meanwhile, you're going to hit 84 in oaktown today and heading into the tri-valley welcome the hot spot, 98 degrees is the forecasted high. today is the warmest day of the week, and we're going or it steadily drop temperatures off as we head deeper and deeper into your workweek. right now at oakland, it's nice and clear, really pretty sunrise, we're counting it down as we head through the next half hour to 45 minutes.

4:54, live look at at&t park and mccovey cove, all is quiet, most of the giants and the rest of major league baseball taking a few days off for the all-star break. now the giants finished the first half of the season on a rare high note. we're talking about record breaking yesterday, both buster poez yessy and madeson hit grand slams as the giants beat the diamondbacks 8-4. it was the first time in major league history a starting pitcher and starting catcher each hit a grand slam in the same game. >> that is pretty amazing. since madeson pitched yesterday, he's no longer eligible to pitch in the all-star game on tuesday. so headed to minneapolis in his place, teammate and good friend, tim hudson. this is hudson's fourth career trip to the midsummer classic. he says this is special because his kids can go as well. todayed is hudson's 39th birthday. last year hudson's career was in doubt when he suffered what
