and good monday morning to you, i'm mississippi christina loren. -- meteorologist christina loren, we're going to see fog at the coast to kick off the day. sunny sky off the bat inland and near triple digit heat. i have your full microclimate weather forecast in just moments. we had early slowdowns through the tri-valley, that sorted itself out. we'll have a look through the south bay coming up next. and live look outside at the bay bridge, it is monday, it is july 14th, and this is "today in the bay". from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." well good morning everyone, thank you for joining us, i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. police are hoping a new sketch will help them track down a man suspected of groping a woman at a palo alto park. kris sanchez joins us live with the latest information, good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning, laura. folks are especially concerned about this attack because it happened right in the light of day, but also because the woman

who says that she was groped couldn't get, couldn't call for help when she most needed it. let's start with the sketch because we to want make sure that folks know who they're looking for. it is a man described at middle eastern between 45 and 55 years of age. salt and pepper hair, 5'3", and 150 pounds. police say the woman was sitting here in a neighborhood not far from the stan chrd campus. about 11:30 in the morning. she told police he asked her if she was married and wanted to be his good friend. then he put his hand right down her shirt and the encounter did not stop there. >> she told him to stop and kind of pushed him away. once she managed to fully get up completely, he put his arms around her and hugged her. and began kissing her neck. >> reporter: now police say the woman was able to get away and tried calling 911 immediately after that attack, but she

couldn't get a cell signal. but at least one other neighbor who lives right here in this neighborhood says she may change her cell service because of that. again, here's a look at the suspect that police are preschooling for. middle eastern man salt and pepper hair, 5'3", 170 pounds. now palo alto police are increasing patrols here at this park, wary park, but they're patrolling other areas in case that suspect decides to strike again. in palo alto, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thanks so much, kris. know a developing situation in the middle east as israeli's military says it downed a drone along the southern coastline. the drone came from gaza. so far no confirmation from gaza or hamas this morning. this is reportedly the first time israel has come across a drone since last week when it launched its full blown offensive against hamas targets in gaza. now since tuesday, israel has launched nearly 1500 air

strikes, killing 172 palestinians. the israeli military says the strikes are in response to heavy rocket fire from gaza. so far, no israelis have been killed in those attacks, partially because the military's missile defense system is shooting them down. >> here's the difference between us. we're using missile defense to protect our civilians and they're using the their civilians to protect their missiles. that's basically the difference. they're embedding these rockets that they're filing wholesale into the cities, terrorist rocketing trying to kill as many as they can. >> despite international pressure to end the air strikes, benjamin netanyahu says the operation could last a while. the military prepared for all possibilities, this includes a possible ground invasion of gaza. it is 5:03, lawyers for disgraced south bay politician george sharacowa junior are asking prosecutors to reveal more details in the dna testing

alleging linking him to a phony campaign mailer. the former supervisor is accused of mailing phony campaign flyers to a political rival. in may, he was released after serving seven months on an unrelated political construction case. shoppers headed to union square hoping for good news. some store favorites were closed, closed their doors after construction crews hit a water main in this weekend flooding some buildings. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live there. and stephanie, we're talking about jimmy choo, will it be back open today? >> reporter: you know the good news for jimmy choo, scott, is that store was one open this weekend, but as you can see here at stockton gary, some likes lacos have signs that they are still closed. the flooding did happen in the basement of several buildings here. so most of the damage is not

visible. a crew contracted by the c work on these central subway project hit the water main just after 4:00. that was saturday morning. the impact businesses including chanel, lacoste, firefighters were on scene trying to help remove water. the power was shut off as well to avoid electrocution inside. shoppers we spoke with yesterday said they were frustrated after waiting a day for doors to open. >> i came here, i don't know what happened, but it was closed, all day. yesterday. wondering what time we could get in, what time you're going to get back and forth. we didn't get in all day yesterday. >> reporter: the city was able to restore water service pretty quickly after. but the san francisco municipal transportation agency which is in charge of the subject apologized for the inconvenience and said there was a representative here on site this weekend taking claims over the repairs, it is still unknown. the contractor, the crew that

hit the water main may be on the hook to pay back these retailers for the repairs. south bay hospital is getting ready for a supersized expansion. the ronald mcdonald house will expand 52,000 square feet making it the largest ronald mcdonald house in the world. nonprofit organization says it surpassed the fund raising goal for cost. it'll make more room for critically ill children by more than doubling the number of family rooms. the hospital had to deny thousands of families because there wasn't enough space. too bad they need all the space, but wonderful that they'll finally have it. >> that's great. let's check in with christina loren this morning, it is a back to work monday, and it was quite cool over the weekend. >> yeah, it was really, really nice over the weekend. yesterday was warm by some bay area standards. i can tell you, if you live in the tri-valley, about 98 degrees out there yesterday.

today, closer to 100. so we're going to boost up those numbers. you'll notice a significant boost at the immediate coast. good morning to you in san francisco, we are at 58 degrees. hopefully you will a fantastic weekend. we get back to business, and the hottest day of the week to start. five to ten degrees warmer today. and most of your coastal cities. you're not going to notice a huge impact out in the extreme east bay where it was really hot yesterday. same deal as today. 70s and the 80s around the inner bay and immediate coast, great beach weather. 90s and triple digits out in the extreme east bay. i think antioch for example, we'll hit about 100 degrees. meanwhile, 84 on the east shore. 92 for the north bay. like i said before, we're going to cool you off as we head deeper into the workweek. you might be able to turn your ac off as we head throughout wednesday into thursday. here's the big story, if you're looking for choice conditions, afterall, our summer months are numbered at this point. temperatures are going to be fantastic at the beach today.

and i know a lot of you have the kids at home with you, so bodega bay, remember it's cold inside the water. 66 degrees for today in half-moon bay and even tomorrow when we cool you off, you're going to get fantastic beach water. we'll talk more about where we're headed in your microclimate, i'll show you the forecast coming up, right now though let's check your drive and say good morning to mike inouye. good morning, folks here towards the northbound 101 underneath 680, 280. we have no problems as far as this particular spot. overall your south bay is looking really good. the yellow blips that show up all around, 59, 58, not a big deal just below the speed limit in most of the spots. and nothing really blocking your freeways a as far as the traffic flow. that's good news. smooth drive around the bay, as far as routes go, you'll see that traffic flows pretty predictably out of the pass. and that's about it as far as the speed sensors colors are concerned. we will talk about your mass transit as we look at the rest

"today in the bay's" bob redell live outside an apple store with more on the new study that affects more people than you might think, good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning laura, the medical journal of pediatrics is reporting that some ipads could cause an allergic flax children. this is based on the case of an 11-year-old body recently treated out of san diego hospital. this child showed up with scaly patches on i had skin and itchy rash all over his body. this is one that would not respond to regular ointment. it wasn't life threatening, but uncomfortable that he missed school. doctors ended up tracing it back to his first generation ipad

that his family brought back in 2010. one that he used on of a daily basis. now when they tested the electronic device, they detected nickel in the ipads outer coating. now that's one metal that is commonly associated with causing skin reactions. the boys rash improved over five months after changing his diet and putting a protective cover over his ipad. it's not clear if all ipads or other devices contain nickel. while the pediatrics journals say there's been reactions to laptops and iphones, this is the first involving an ipad which reached by the associated press, apple had no comment. nickel allergies are not uncommon. they're found in a quarter of children tested for allergies. some of the reactions can lead to a skin infection which would require antibiotics and steroid treatments. if you have any concerns about your ipad, the medical journal of pediatrics is recommending you put at protective cover over

testifies before congress about economy. now of course it is merger monday and match could be lit under a deal that's been talked about far while now in the tobacco sector. reynolds, american, confirm they're in merger talks. while reynolds makes camels, cools, and pall malls. this would create the largest publicly traded company in los angeles. the firm work together on a number of projects including the freedom tower in new york as well as the barclay center. russell stoefr is best known for chocolate samplers and about $500 million in annual sales, back to you. >> mary thompson, thank you. new video this morning at 5:15 of a powerful storm in ohio that flipped over an revenue and damaged an entire campground last night. you can see the entire rv just torn apart.

the man inside is okay. motor homes at the campground were danieled or destroyed, another round of storms is expected today. people in arizona waking up to some severe storm damage this morning, several homes in tucson were ripped apart by winds, as high as 66 miles per hour. that combined with torrential rains led to downed trees and power poles. sop far, no reports of any injuries. polar vortex is rolling into the upper midwest this morning, but won't be as bad as winter. you'll recall, temperatures dropped ten to 30 degrees many leaving in potentially deadly weather. today people will experience the same type of drop, but because it's summer, highs are expected in the 70s, lows in the 40s. here at home, temperatures great for attendees at the annual arts and wine festival. after -- at forefront, a drought. >> another year, we'll be

meanwhile, we'll see about 100 degrees here in our hot spots as well. that's pretty normal. up in that clear lake renal, they always get hot, 63 degrees in san jose for today. thanks for waking up with us, happy toe have you on a monday morning. we know mondays can be tough and weather's not going to help today. it's the hot egs day of the week. even here in san jose, low 90s, san francisco, you'll gate taste of the 70s for today. meanwhile, tiberon getting fog here this morning. that means your temperatures will stay nice and comfortable for today. as we head throughout the day though, what you'll really notice is the mountains, the coastal mountains holding back that low cloud cover. as a result of those low clouds, not coming into our inland valleys, hot temperatures today. 92 degrees in the south bay. 71 degrees in san francisco. 92 in the north bay. and 84 degrees on the east shore. let me show you where we're headed as you get further to the week. temperatures are going to start to really cool off. but i can tell you, still a little bit above average for

tomorrow, and for wednesday, then by thursday here in the south bay, a taste of the upper 70s. so we'll tell you what else is happening across the bay area this week, maybe you still have the clouds at home with you, but mike, they are there are advertising for back to school. >> i know. you have to start getting the lists from the schools, go to the stores, they have the back backs on the shelves already. i saw them on friday. look out kids, little relief coming for the parents. no relief for westbound 580, moving slower than ten minutes ago because the traffic growing near dublin. let's show you the leading edge of the traffic on the maps. west 580 out of the pass, speed sensors slow on the maps heading out passing by greenville. but by the time you get towards about north livermore, that's when things ease up. by the time you hit the interchange, north 680 does show label the of slowing, about 58, 59 miles per hour on the

32 people. the cost reached nearly a billion. two people have been gored in the final day of the runs of the bulls in pavrp low in a. hundreds participated in the final dash of the year, at one point, a bull separated from the pack charged three runners pinning them to a wall. two were gored, five others were injured. everyone is expected to survive. speaking of the running of the bulls, spanish police are looking for this man who appears to be snapping a selfie during friday's run. organizers of the festival prohibited the use of recording devices by participants to try to cut back on more dare dell behavior. already fined three people. now if caught, this man faces a fine of more than $2,000. social media has already lashed out against him using the hashtag with idiot with the mobile in spanish. you've seen him act, now you can watch him sing and dance.

but it's unclear how badly she was hurt. santa clara county sheriff's office says someones claiming to be a deputy scamming people out of money. it's happened to a dozen people in the south bay. rosemary frar ra got a phone call from someone who said he was with the sheriff's office. he told her she would be arrested for not responding to a grand jury summons unless she paid at least $700. gave her what he claimed was his badge number and a warrant number. she was skeptical, she had her husband call the sheriff's department. >> she did say that 11 people had already shown up at the sheriff's department that received this same phone call. >> now the sheriff's department confirms there have been several different scams this year involving people who claim to be sheriffs deputies, would you not elaborate though on this specific call. in the meantime, construction crews in san francisco forced to close some popular stores after they hit a water main in union square this weekend, flooded several

buildings. stephanie chuang is live in stockton, stephanie, 48 sures, when will -- hours, when will the stores be open? >> reporter: yeah, that's the million dollar question for the shoppers who want to come here. most likely that we won't know until later because the stores don't open until 10:00 in the morning. if you've driven in the area, you're used to the construction closing the roads and the lanes, but not closing stores. and that's potentially what happened to the sign here at lacoste, sorry for the inconvenience. a contractor working here saturday morning apparently hit a water main that was just after 4:00 that morning, flooding the basements of several of the buildings here. many luxury retailers forced to close up shop for the entire weekend, including chanel, stores on one maiden lane. jimmy choo the only one back open yesterday. firefighters trying to help move water. the city had shut off power to prevent any possibility of

electrocution inside. the city was able to restore water service quickly. the san francisco municipal transportation sags in charge of the central subway project, and the spokesperson apologizing for the inconvenience that there was a representative here on site taking claims over the weekend. it is possible the contractor, that crew that apparently hit this water main could be patched to pay back the retailers here of exactly how much the contractor owed, we still don't know. live in san francisco this morning, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> all right stephanie, thank you. it is 5:35, the coast guard is reiterating warnings this morning about the dangers of playing in the bay. the warning comes after the coast guard spent hours rescuing dozens of kite borders and wind surfers yesterday. between 5:30 and 7:15 last night, the coast guard rescued 25 people from the batter near kriszy field in san francisco. the wind died down, stranding them the out on the bay. but they all made it back to land safely. well let's check in with

meteorologist christina loren for the winds and everything els this morning. >> yeah, it's choppy out there on the bay this morning. good monday morning to you. 58 degrees in san francisco as you're getting ready, in mountain view, 63. livermore, you're at 66 degrees this morning. meanwhile, kind of cool this morning in half-moon bay. 50 straight up for you. this is what our coastline looks like this morning. i want to show you the ocean beach. plenty of clouds, but a shallow marine layer that's transparent in most spots, it's going to burn off quickly. here in san francisco, no low clouds to show you here on the bay bridge, they just turned those lights on. looks like they're leaving the lights on later for us to enjoy the morning hours. i want to the show you san jose now, little hazy here, but not too bad. high pressure that dominant feature in our forecast for today and just about every day this week. for today, it's going to have the most energy associated with it. that means we'll see a five to ten degree jump in temperatures from yesterday highs nap

translates to the triple digits, or just about there. flirting with the triple digits out in the extreme east bay for today. for us here in the south bay, 92 on the peninsula, 87 degrees. the east shore is at 84 degrees, 71 for san francisco, and hey, 92 out in the north bay, that's a hot day for wine country. the really hot temperatures will come in from places like pleasanton, antioch, and livermore. 98 degrees out there for today. like i said before, this heat is short lived. we'll talk about the cooler weather and when that wind is going to significantly increase once again. that's coming up in my next report, back to mike inouye. good morning christina loren, i-580. westbound in your commute, look in the volume of traffic, heavier than we often see this time. we'll look at maps and we have slowing around the area. the sensors show that as well as a fender bender. one car is over off the shoulder, the other car took

check your ipad. the tablet may contain nickel. that is the most common aerly is inducing metals, bob redell joins us live inside palo alto, new study that affects more people than you might think, good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura. this is based on a report that's coming out by the medical journal reporting that some ipads could cause an allergic skin reaction in children. now, this is based on the case of an 11-year-old boy treated recently at a hospital in san diego. this child showed up with scaly patches on his skin and an itchy rash all over his body, one that would not respond to regular ointment. it wasn't life threatening, but it was so uncomfort that believe he missed schools. his doctors traced is back to the first generation ipad that his family bought back in 2010. one that he used on a daily basis. when they tested the electronic device, they detected nickel in the ipad's outer coating. that is one metal associated with causing skin reaction.
