good morning. coming up on "early today" over 200 palestinians have been killed during the fighting with israel after nine days. a critical turning point. a massive typhoon causes the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people as winds and flooding bare down. border disorder may heat up today as the president and congress prepare to butt heads on solution. >> plus hilary clinton's funny visit with jon stewart. derek jeter treated like a king among all stars and much more on july 16th. audio and printed warnings to residents of the gaza strip to flee their houses. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu said israel had to choice but to respond more forcefully after ha mass rejected a truce plan. he said, quote, hamas chose to continue fighting and will pay the price for that decision. the largest hospital in gaza overwhelmed is feeling that price. the gaza health ministry says 204 have died and over 1500 wounded. the israel defense force says 75 attacks have been carried out just today, only targeting militants, but the united nations says 80% of those killed have been civilians so far. going the other way, hundreds of rockets fired by hamas from gaza, one hamas rocket killed an israeli the first since the fighting began. at least 12 people have been killed by the strongest storm to hit the philippines this year. typhoon rammasun shut down the

capital of ma nin la. its wind gusts tore the roofs off homes, downed trees and power lines and sent debris flying. more than 370,000 people were evacuated from high risk villages. the typhoon is moving into the south china sea. and expected to hit south china and northern vietnam this week. many thought the immigration debate was dead this summer. people across the country are raising flags and even bringing rifles to rallies. hundreds on both sides of the issue rallied outside tu san, arizona, after having word of unaccompanied children coming their way. house republicans will push to have national guard troops sent to the border to help handle the influx of unaccompanied children. nbc's brian mooar is in washington. what's the latest on the children we're hearing so far? >> the latest is both sides of congress are trying to take care of this problem. how it is done is still a matter of great debate. president obama is looking for

$3.7 billion, but it is unlikely at this point that he'll get everything he wants. house republicans today are calling for a surge of national guard troops and streamline deportations to battle the immigration crisis at the border. >> and hopefully by the end of the week we'll have a better idea of how we might move ahead. >> reporter: democrats want to care for underage immigrants until they're sent home. >> how does an 8-year-old make a credible case without the assistance of an attorney without getting the documentation necessary to make a case before the judge. >> reporter: and lawmakers have the next two weeks to find middle ground. one bipartisan plan being pushed by two texans, democratic congressman henry kuacul cuella republican john cornyn. >> the concern is its going to double again next year unless we deal with this. >> what we have seen is when congress wants to do something they can act pretty quickly to get it done. >> reporter: far from the capitol the immigration issue divided a small arizona community. some welcoming a few dozen

underage immigrants set to be detained there. some not. >> what if one of them is bad. we don't know. >> reporter: but both sides looking to washington for action. republicans have not officially released their plan but it appears they are looking for more policy changes than democrats may be willing to go along with. richard? >> thank you so much for that latest on that report. appreciate it. a pulitzer-prize winning journalist and activist was detained tuesday. jose antonio vargas was taken into custody making his way through security in mcgowan. vargas has lived and worked in the u.s. without legal documentation since his teens. he was on his way to a vigil in support of unaccompanied border kids. he himself was one of those as a child. he was released from custody last night. hurry and book the trip right now. starting monday u.s. air travel will be pricier. the government raised the tsa fees for passengers and the treasury department will take a

$12 billion cut of that. to use toward the federal deficit. the mandatory security fees started after the september 11th terrorist attacks. currently one way trips are capped at $5. nonstop round trip fees are $5 and next week they will jump to $11.20. layovers over four hours on a domestic flight are considered separate legs of a trip which could cost some passengers over $22 in fees. it was a bittersweet send off for the captain. yankees short stop derek jeter helping the american league to a 5-3 win in his 14th and final all-star game. he's set to retire after this coming season. in the bottom of the first, a standing ovation from st. louis pitcher adam wayneright and the crowd. as jeter was the lead-off for the american league. jeter smacks the ball to right for a double. wainwright was going to give him a couple pipe shot or easier pitches perhaps, but how did he
