>> and i'm scott mcgrew. developing now, john kerry arriving in cairo this morning, he'll push far ceasefire between israel and hamas. meanwhile palestinian health official says an israeli tank shell struck a hospital in gaza strip, killing four people, wounding 60. the israeli military checking out than report. it comes as the number of dead in gaza tops 500. violence peeking yesterday, more than 70 palestinians, 13 israelis killed inlatitude colluding two israeli-americans. one a california native. he lived in woodland hills, last night friends and family members held a small vigil until southern california to honor the young man. he volunteered to join the israeli army last year. his family traveling to israel later today to lay him to rest. turning to that deadly plane crash in ukraine now. victims of, bodies of the victims are in the pros of being moved and -- process of being moved and taken to nearby train cars. meanwhile international

community is outraged about the limited access to the crash scene allowed by pro-russian rebels. "today in the bay's" derek shore joins us, a vote to demand access so gain access is set to take place in hours. we're not talking about a government group here, we're talking about rebels. >> reporter: that's right, and the president of the ukraine speaking out today and calling russia and the pro-russian separatist to the carpet. moments ago, he says there's been three kiem crimes, taken down of the plane, treatment of the bodies, and third the destruction of evidence. it comes as we are expecting the u.n. security council to vote later today on a resolution to demand international access to the huge debris field which is still under the com of those separatists. the same group of rebels suspected of shooting down the boeing 777 in eastern ukraine. the australian prime minister has strong words and john kerry said u.s. evidence shows there is little doubt that the rebels were the ones to launch that deadly missile. >> there's no doubt that, at the

moment, the site is under the control of the russian-backed rebels. and given the almost certain probability of the russian-backed rebels of thing down of the aircraft, having those people in control of the site is like leaving criminals in control of a crime scene. >> we picked up the imagery of this launch. we know the trajectory. we know where it came from. >> reporter: a positive news, the dutch prime minister says some of their experts have been given access to the victim's remains in attempts to identify them, get them back to families so they could be properly buried. again that vote from the u.n. security council will happen later today. we will have to see if russia will decide to block it. in the studio, derek shore, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, derek. several people on board the plane headed to an aids conference in australia at the conference today, those victims were honored in a moment of silence, and then the president

of the international aids society dedicated the conference to those killed. in addition, candle light vigil will be held tomorrow to commemorate their lives. we're following developments around the clock, in the meantime, head to nbcbayarea.com for the very latest information. new this morning, plits are investigating -- police are investigating an attack in san jose that sent one man to the hospital. it's too soon to tell whether this was a stabbing or a shooting. investigators say they found the victim on the ground and think that he may have crawled from an apartment complex nearby. it happened overnight near eden avenue. police say they have not arrested anyone and don't have any good leads that the point. happening now, pleasanton apartment complex waking up without water for the third day in a row. bob redell joins us live, no water since friday, people live there certainly is got to be frustrated. >> reporter: well it's monday morning, you needed to take your shower before work, and the best you can do is. hand wash with a couple of water

or bottled water you bought at the store. you can imagine the few residents we've spoken with here at the spring house in pleasanton are very us from stray straited, very angry. they've been without running water since friday afternoon since 2:00 when a water line burst. they actually had it fixed yesterday, for about an hour, residents have did have the water back on, then it went out again. and it's still out, and they don't know when the workers will be back out here. people who live here have been going without the showers as i mentioned, they're having a hand wash with bottled water or go to a friend's house. some people are snagging water from the pool to frush their toilets. this is the fourth day this has been going on. wondering how much more they can tolerate. >> we can't take flush, take showers, can't live like normal people. but they're not giving us any answers. we'd love to pack up and go stay in a hotel, but we have a dog,

and we can't. so we're frustrated right now. >> reporter: what are you doing? >> we don't know what to do. >> reporter: a man told us he's enjoyed living here at spring house apartments and all that time, of course until this weekend happened. the management did hand out one gallon of water to someone else telling us this to the roughly 300 renters here. this one person say this is not much. we tried to reach management locally and at the national level, but it is afterhours. all we received were voice mail messages. reporting live in pleasanton, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. today's the day water prices go up for customers of the alameda county water district, people there did such a good job saving water and the drought, it meantless money for the water agency caused a budget short fall, so they are raising your rates. it is time now to check your forecast, we look live at the

bay bridge this morning, beautiful blue start to the day with meteorologist christina loren who doesn't have the monday blues. >> every day. every day. almost annoyingly chipper sometimes, and i apologize for that. but hey, i can't help it, i really am little missunshine. taking you outside where we don't have much of that going on right now, i just annoyed myself with that one. 64 degrees in san jose. 64 in livermore, and 64 degrees in san martin. here's the deal for today. we're starting out mild. really all your microclimate showing you temperatures in the 60s. three to five degrees of separation at best. later on today, 15 degrees of separation. we're not going to see that extreme swing between coastal temperatures and inland spots, that is because of this. that fog, which made its way all the way inland this morning. looking live here at a foggy start in sunol, show egg you now ocean beach, where we actually have some really thick low clouds this morning, good sign that onshore flow is returning and here in the south bay, another beautiful start.

overall, overcast for now, burning off quickly, and the showers are fading quickly as well as this front moves to the north. i want to set this radar back for you, three hours, and you can see what's happening over the past three hours. here go, we start it up, and now at this point, shower activity pressing into the santa rosa area as we head throughout the next couple of hours. right now, enough rain coming throw get your highways nice and slick, petaluma to santa rosa. that's the area we're watching for over the course of the next hour. look at these numbers. temperatures just perfect. 77 degrees on the peninsula today. 76 for the east shore. and 68 degrees today in san francisco. beautiful day coming your way in the city. we do have some heat ahead. we'll talk about that coming up, right now though, maybe we have to get out the front door, here's mike right on time. good morning. pith lieu maw to santa rosa, lance -- petaluma to santa rosa, lance, be careful. we're looking across the bay bridge, i was watching westbound into the city across the span,

smooth drive today zoomed in towards the city side, then zoom it back out. we had a hit and run reported as you're getting past the off-ramp. that cleared the roadway, cleared the off-ramp, and it should where an easy drive into san francisco as we see right now. metering lights on and back up at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's monday as you're traveling down to the upper east shore freeway. slowing as you travel through richmond. that's about it as far as the slowing towards the bay bridge. here's the tri-valley west 580 slows through livermore and dublin. slowing across that dublin grade as well. arrow pointing eastbound, there's a stall reporting involving a big rig and distraction and partially blocking one lane. we have an unusual slowdown twashds 58037 and that's a note for folks, volume increasing, more slowing through sunol. we have no problems for the rest of the bay. easy flow of traffic, we are talking about the mass transit systems. nop delays reported -- no delays reported. all the way down to the vta in

you're watching "today in the bay." welcome back now, good monday morning to you, taking a live look at san francisco, it looks colded from this picture, you see those overcast clouds hanging out over the city. but we could call it tank tropolis today, we're going to end up at 69 degrees, no need for the jacket, and this is a rare occurrence. i'll let you know when the summer wardrobe season really going to come in handy in just moments. and we're looking over here towards the san mateo bridge where we had a stall earlier over on the right hand side that cleared, smooth krooi on a flat section. we'll talk about your peninsula and what it means for the south bay coming up. and here are today's top stories, secretary of state john kerry arriving in cairo this morning to push for a ceasefire between israel and hamas. this morning a health official

says israeli tank shells struck a hospital in the gaza strip killing four people, wounding 60 people already in the hospital. israeli military checking out that report. the number of killed in the cross border fighting has topped 500. wild fire burning out of control in washington state is now more than double the size of the entire city of san jose. more than 150 homes are destroyed, and one man died from a heart attack while he was trying to protect his home from the flames. frustrated people living in the spring house apartments in pleasanton without water for fourth day in a row. residents tell us a water line broke around 2:00 p.m. friday. they were only given a gallon of water to get by. and cal train is getting an upgrade when which will make riders happy. >> they're repairing the public address system in four stations. they've been getting complaints, it's hard to hear. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live in san francisco, and stephanie, crews are giving the pa system a boost. >> reporter: yeah, that's right,

good morning, scott and kris. i just heard one of the announcements from the speakers now, it's fine if you're in the area, but if you're running and catch a train, it's tough to hear i would say. crews begun workers at this station in san francisco. 1:00 this morning, under the bridge here, and this is the first of fourth quarter to get improvements to the pa system. now the work runs south, so next will be the south san francisco station. before sunny valley and finally -- sunny vale. cal train says a report identified that pa systems at these four stations were inadequate and unreliable. with growing ridership, almost 12% up from last year. this is a matter of safety. the pa systems are important in providing critical service and safety announcements. and for the day-to-day, passengers say it'll enhance their experience and help them catch those trains. >> they need it because

sometimes cars are running late, and when you the pa can catch a train. >> reporter: it'd be nice to have it louder. >> yeah. >> reporter: and the work at the 22nd strain station in san francisco runs from 1:00 to 4:00 in the morning, then hours of work for the other three are 7:00 in the morning until 5:00 at night. differences. and you can see people catching the train now here at this station. one other thing passengers will enjoy is official message signs. you can see the information and customers will then have access to realtime information. live in san francisco this morning, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> all right, stephanie, thank you much. and time now to check the forecast as we look live at san jose, and i'm saying if this moan soon moisture's going to stick around, we need to get a mailbox in the newsroom. >> yeah. hey, but you know what, our friend the monsoonal moisture keeps the big ridge of high pressure that keeps souse hot, that moisture combined with the

heat keeps our temperatures soaring. and i for one, i'll take the humidity over the triple digits, i don't know about you, but yeah, it's those triple digits, ac has a hard time cooling off your house. that i start to get frustrated. you know what, kris, off fantastic head of hair, and so it probably impacts you a little bit more so than me. me and my limp blond hair. temperature right now really mild out there. i can tell you right now, san francisco showing you that full deck of clouds and a little bit, little bit of a chop on the bay. right now the wind is picking up. it's coming out of the west. what that means for us with westerly flow is beautiful cool ocean air moving all the way inland, all day long. and as a result, your temperatures, which are already really mild are going to remain mild, only topping out in the low 80s. ian in the hot spots for today. looking live here at the clouds and what they're doing this morning, really fixed over the county. as the showers clear, we will

see fog develop, then by about 11:00 to the north bay, you will be mostly clear. we're going to see mostly sunny sky even in san francisco and areas south like sunol, add about 10:00 a.m. today. looking live at ocean beach, beautiful start here. i want to show you san jose, gorgeous day ahead, out door plans, really easy when temperatures are in the 80s. we are going to be in the 90s before you know it. even in the south bap we'll talk about that in a minute. right now tracking showers right now on their way to santa rosa. this is the last batch of rain that's significant. as it moves up in the next 15 minutes to half hour, we're going to be down with the rainfall, measurable precipitation here in the bay area. overall, comfortable temperatures today. 81 degrees good air quality. 76 on the east shore and 68 degrees today in sfraebs. here's the warm-up. temperatures, wednesday into thursday really feeling the impact. we're going to get three really comfortable days, then we will get gorgeous beach weather out of this as well. thursday into friday,

temperatures in the mid-70s in san francisco. 80s on the way to santa cruz. let's check your drive, maybe on your way to work, here's mike to help you out. we're looking over here towards palo alto. north 101 from willow and university all the way into the city. smooth drive here. southbound, picking up a little volume through palo alto. let's show you the maps, we're talking about a smooth drive through the south bay as well, northbound routes between 680 and 880, holding up steady as far as the lighter volumes go. we can see things kick in. the volume will build over the next half hour. we'll see the slowing spots for 87, 280, and 85. bimd down through hayward, continuing past the san mateo bridge and in towards union city, typical pattern. no sprys. dublin had earlier slowing, but that sorted itself out. typical build for west 580 coming through the pass and in towards the dublin interchange. south 680 has the building.

slowing through antioch where there's a crash moved to the shoulder. we are looking at another one here at railroad, and that's causing more slowing towards pittsburg. highway 4 in southbound 680, south 242 close to the speed there. westbound 80 moving nicely towards the toll plaza where the lights are on. earlier crash in san francisco confirmed clearing at ninth. we'll show you the toll plaza where the volume is there. you see that for the fast track lanes, but the cash lanes are chugging along. hov, car pool, big advantage for you. >> good advice, thanks, mike. remembering, hollywood is remembering james garner this morning, the 6886-year-old actor was found late in his home. police say he died of natural causes. garner is best remembered as a dry wooded gambler in maverick. we also remember him as a smooth talking private eye in the rockford files. in later years, he touched a new

new this morning, virgin atlantic flight from shank thigh london was forced to make an emergency landing in siberia. spokesperson says the plane had a technical issue and the landing was a precaution. now one of the 300 passengers on board was american screen writer

dustin lance black. he posted this video on facebook. here you see the plane dumping fuel, getting rid of the extra fuel before an emergency landing is very normal. his boyfriend is british olympic diver tom daley, also on the flight, right now the plane on a runway, being examined, it's in siberia. virgin atlantic says the passengers are being taken care of by the cabin crew. happening now, typhoon moving across parts of asia is leaving destruction in its path. 12 people dead, four others missing in vietnam after flooding and landslides. nearly 2,000 homes are under evacuation order. the same typhoon killed at least 77 people last week and 17 people in china over the weekend. new video this morning, at least 100 homes evacuated after a train derailed in wisconsin overnight. spilling several thousand gallons of diesel fuel. this happened 35 northwest of milwaukee. the city's fire chief says three

engines and 12 rail cars derailed. two people were hurt, though not seriously. preliminary reports show the company's train was going south when it hit cars on oates train. a home is teetering on the edge of a large sink hole in florida. that home's owner was allowed back in briefly to grab a few things. this is the front yard of a home in spring hill about 50 miles north of tampa. that hole measures about 40 feet by 40 feet. fortunately, no one has been injured, but crews will be out today to check the sink hole and decide what to do next. five people hurt after a hot air balloon burst into flames. take a look, crashed into power lines near boston yesterday. you can see it dipping low to the ground, hitting the power line, sent sparks flying. two people treated at the scene, three others to the hospital. the faa is investigating. time is now 6:26, still ahead, the south bay people

there. highway 24 approaching the maize. we'll let you know how that's shaking out the rest of the approach. and out to the opening bell on the nyse, could be a rather unstable day given all of the world politics over on the nasdaq, there goes the confetti. today is july 121st, it's monday, and here's "today in the bay." >> from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." good morning everyone, i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon today. the deadliest day of fighting between hamas and israel in the last month. the death toll in gaza is now at least 508 and two americans are among the dead in israel. "today in the bay's" danielle lee joins us live in washington, d.c., danielle, secretary of state john kerry is on his way to egypt to help broke aeroceasefire deal. in the last hour we hear of the bombing of a hospital, so that's got to increase the urgency.

>> reporter: hi kris, good morning, we are expecting secretary of state john kerry to arrive in cairo shortly, but it's going to be tough to get it a deal. the deal to get a truce to end the two weeks of fighting, even as the violence rages on and the death toll continues to climb. we saw video of just some of the damage as these air strikes continue in which one family was killed more than two dozen people from one family when a home was demolished, this is just one small example as this two week israel offensive wages on, hundreds of palestinians have been killed. tens of thousands fled their homes. in israel there has been losses, at least 18 soldiers and two civilians, among those two americans who were fighting on behalf of israel. and the israeli army did release some video of what they say were militants using tunnels to infull trait israel. they say they did stop them, and that's what they're trying to do. led by hamas from coming in to

israel. they are also experiencing worry as there are more and more air miss also this are being launched from the gaza strip. the home is to get this fighting to stop before there are more deaths. the problem is is that while israel is willing to agree to a ceasefire, that this deal reached back in november 2012, hamas is not willing to. the hope is that this increasing international pressure can get progress as kerry is arriving incare. i'm danielle lee, kris, back to you. >> thank you very much, danielle. happening today, volunteers from the south bay will take a bus load of supplies to undocumented immigrant children in southern california. over the past week, people have been dropping off clothing and toiletries at the guadalupe church in san jose. the donations will go to children and mothers who have been greeted by protesters in murrieta. they cross the boarder in hopes of escaping violence in central america. it is 6:32 now, time to check the forecast as we look live at a cloudy start over

sunol, but we see the sun trying to peek through there in the distance. >> christina loren joins us from the weather center, good morning. >> high quality start, high quality. good morning, scott, kris, it's monday, we have showers on the radar, but i don't think you need to add additional time to your morning drive. afterall, that's all you should be concerned about. really not enough to wash your car and not enough to bust that drought. but any sort of moisture coming through the bay area right now, a welcomed sight, and you can vividly see that moisture here in san francisco to kick off the day. temperatures are really mild out there. we're at 65 degrees in san francisco. 65 in redwood city, and 64 degrees in oakland. it's a subtropical air mass that's bringing in the humidity and shourts and look at this, even -- showers and look at this, temperatures are in the 50s, we're at 61 degrees above the water right now. and that cool ocean air you'll see here is going to come all the way inland as all your

arrows today shift out of the west. at this point, most of the arrows are coming out of the west which is a sure sign that our natural ac will be on for today. showers lifting quickly, we're welcome done, i'd say over the course of the next hour or two, all this action will be out of the bay area, pressing to the north. we are going to see another round of thunderstorms today along the sierra nevada, keep that in minded if you're headed that way. flash flooding in yosemite because of the strong thunderstorms yesterday. so if you're headed that way, make sure to have the radio on, stay tuned to the forecast and always check on the way if you're not driving. 81 degrees in the south bay, 77 degrees on the peninsula and 6 degrees for san francisco today. we have significant changes to tell you about. little bit of heat, but we're going to get pleasant days before the heat cranks. we'll talk about that coming up. here's mike inouye and your morning drive. good morning folks, bay bridge toll plaza first of all, we see the metering lights are on and the fast track lanes are showing the best flow of track. second best, hov of course car

pooling a big deal. crowded here, but look at oakland, from the coliseum, very light volume north towards us. folks from 98 toward the coliseum and continue to the bay bridge. now one concern we have on our maps. we have a slowing drive, developing for the east shore freeway and typical pattern there. 580, westbound 580 in your commute direction, sounds like there's a stalled big rig around that transition with 24. could be a bigger issue, at least a distraction. we'll track that as chp arrives. so far, we see slowing east 580, that's unusual, no incidents reported there. rest of the bay, typical pattern for hayward, union city, southbound 880 slows the slowdown. same thing westbound 580, south 680 as well. countercommute in livermore, stalled big rig reported around the area, distraction, but nothing worse than that. little bit of slowing. and here in the south bay, north 101 shows the build typical. 87 shows that following as well. we have your standard bill for the south bay just kicking in right now. >> all right, thank you very

raging wild fires are now deadly. 67-year-old man died of a heart attack. right now crews from across the country are in central washington to try to fight that out of control blaze. in fact, 5,000 men and women are out on the fire lines. nbc's jacob is live in washington, and jacob, this fire, nearly 300,000 acres, and it's still growing. >> reporter: the conditions are

better than they have been in a week, and the fire right now is bunning in an area where there are no more homes, but that's about the only good news in this week long fire fight now that the governor calls unprecedented in washington state. initially there were four fires here, also started by lightning, over the weekend, they merged into one giant fire that calls a complex fire now said 300,000 acres which is the largest wild fire washington state has ever seen. entire towns have been evacuated, and more than 150 homes have been burned. family after family is seen going through the rubble in one community up the road, 30 homes lost in the community where we are now off the lake. 40 homes have been lost and really they haven't counted all of the homes in all of the communities that have burned. but as i said, conditions are getting better, there's even rain in the forecast later this week. back to you guys. >> thank you very much. it is 6:40 now, coming up, four days and counting without

rosa, christina's talking about rain traveling through the area. keep in mind, back to you. a developing story, secretary of state john kerry will arrive in cairo this morning. he'll push far ceasefire between israel and hamas. the number of dead now more than 500. violence peaked yesterday as more than 70 palestinians and 13 israeli soldiers were killed including two israeli-americans. among those killed, two americans serving as soldiers in the israel defense force. family and friends gathered in southern california last night to remember one of them. the 24-year-old was a sharp shooter in the military, 21-year-old from texas was also killed. meanwhile in one neighborhood in gaza, 70 people were killed yesterday on the drive in to the city, nbc cameras capturing survivors trying to get out with their belongings on their backs. of course gaza is completely isolated, there's really nowhere to get out to, even so, they are the lucky ones, the morgue is filled to capacity.

frustrated, it's one thing to lose water on the weekend, but now we're in the workweek. >> reporter: just spoke to a lady headed out to work moments ago, clearly frustrated because he's going to work and hasn't showered. hasn't been able to shower since friday. she's doing hand wash with bottled water. another woman, you can look at this video let us into her apartment to show what exactly is coming out of faucet. surprisingly some water coming out of her kitchen faucet on the ground floor, nowhere near the normal flow, but upstairs, there's no water in the toilets, can't flush her toilet and of course there's no water coming out of the showers. they've been without running water here at this spring house apartments in pleasanton since friday afternoon when a water line burst. workers have been repairing it and had it fixed yet for about an hour. residents get all of their water back on, then it went out again. and it's still out, and they don't know when the workers will be back out here to have another go at it the. people who live here have been going out showers, as i

mentioned, hand washing with bottled water or go to a friend's house. some people are snagging water from the pool, the community pool here to flash their toilets. this is this as you mentioned it the fourth day of this, renters wondering how much more can they tolerate? >> i have to go to the bathroom, i go up to the gas station. which is not real convenient. basically we have some bottled water here for brushing your teeth and so forth. >> reporter: management helpful or sympathetic? >> yeah, they have actually. they have. still inconvenient. >> reporter: and if you come back out here life -- live, a trauk just arrived with porter potties on the back. i guess that's a good sign for residents because they don't have to go to the gas station or friend's house or go to the pool to get water. it could be a bad sign though because it might mean that
