from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." well good morning everyone, you've made it to thursday, it's 4:30 i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. we have lots of news, first your forecast, good morning. >> good morning, kris, scott, everybody at home. starting out with plenty of 50s out there this morning. it's definitely nice and cool. just about everywhere. couple 60s on the map. 62 for san jose and 65 in livermore. as we get into your afternoon, i have to tell you, it will be warmer for today. but that humidity has dropped off. it feels better out there. we'll talk about what's coming your way fact weekend were we

are so close now, you have to work for it, here's mike to help you get there. >> we work through the humidity. it does feel better. looking over towards 580 where traffic flows nicely. crews not causing much of a disturbance. you travel eastbound, westbound starts to pick up and no slowing shows up on our maps just yet. however, north 680 from that point, smooth drive towards stone valley road. there is a crash reported, reports of a car over off of its wheels and back on its wheels. then fire reported and now maybe no fire. just smoke. no one's injured, but there's going to be minor injuries after that going on. we'll check on that. so far, everything's isolated to the right side. maybe the slowing blocked. rest of the bay looking smooth. we'll talk about the bay bridge coming up back to you. late night scare for people living near sacramento's mather airport when a cargo plane made an emergency landing.

slowly off takeoff, he heard unusual noise's from the engine. you can see it safely here on the ground. no one hurt. neighbors heard a big boom. sparks coming out of aircraft. everybody's okay. in just a few hours, suspended state senator leland ye will answer to a new charge of racketeering. stephanie chuang joins us live from outside the federal courthouse in san francisco. stephanie, just one count of racketeering, one would land him in prison for 20 years. >> reporter: third quarter, good morning, kris. some say this is a smart move because they can bring in more evidence under this new charge. and of course they could lead to more time behind bars if there is a conviction. leland ye and co-defendants are accused of violating the racketeering act, better known as rico, the late east coast federal grand jury indictment

has him selling political favors in exchange for money. one example being ye apparently trying to get an nfl owner to give him $60,000 to win influence on a vote that would limit a player's ability to file for worker's compensation. now the earlier indictment accused him from gun trafficking to receiving undercover money to help get rid of his campaign debt. there are 28 other defendants in this case. raymond shrimp boy chow, formerly charged with a racketeering. he will likely not take a plea deal. he is a reformed gangster caught in a three year undercover investigation that spanned money laundering to money for hire. he was here yesterday. today leland ye is set to be here at 9:30 this morning. live in san francisco, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. san jose police looking at video trying to catch a glimpse of a man who broke into that

home, tied up a teenager. this happened in the middle of the day. the armed man broke in the sliding glass door on a home on the court just before 1:00 yesterday afternoon. this is in san jose's valley neighborhood. now once inside, the intruder came face to face with a 17-year-old boy who was home alone at the time. police say the man accused zip ties to tie up the teen and demanded cash. the teen told the man where to find valuables, the robber took off. neighbors in the normally quiet community stunned. >> i don't know if they came here first or he was just barking at what was going across the street. but i don't think i'll be telling her so shut up in the near future. i'll be sitting up and see what's going on in the neighborhood. >> the tark was able to free himself and call for help. he was not physically hurt, just very scared. new this morning, san francisco police are on the lookout for a gunman who fired on a 20-year-old victim late last night.

officers were called to the area in santa paula avenue around 8:15. they found someone helping a 20-year-old man who was shot in the stomach. he was rushed to the hospital and expected to be okay. it happened about a mile and a half away near manner drive and ocean avenue. while police were looking for ed in the shooting, a car hit one of their patrol cars. an officer was inside the cruiser at the time. police have not released his or her condition. san hoesz police department could do away with motorcycle cops. nbc bay area learned the department is considering a plan to cut its motorcycle traffic unit, part of the plan would be to move the 11 officer into patrol cars. they should make a final decision soon. and while it might cut motorcycles, they are adding a drone to its force. the department used federal grant money to bite $7,000 drone. it'll be used by the bomb squad to better assess threats. it will not be used for anything

else. and since it was bought with federal funds, bomb squads in san francisco, oakland, and other bay area agencies can use that as well. story developing as we speak in the middle east. this morning, stern words from israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu who says they will destroy the network with or without a cease-fire. the mission could be done in four to five days. meanwhile the israeli military called up another 16,000 reserve troops for fighting in gaza. since midnight, troops carried out at least 20 attacks on what it says were hamas-ruled targets in gaza. the war which started three weeks ago has already left 1400 palestinians dead, more than 300 of them children. in contrast, nearly 60 israelis have died. most of them soldiers. well you've heard reports about the deadly ebola virus spreading throughout west africa. it seems to be contained and

it feels good when you walk out your door. 59 in oakland. we're starting out at 58 degrees in san francisco. sop overall, running a couple degrees cooler than this time yesterday. same deal as yesterday. although we are going to see stronger onshore flow for today. we're going to wake up with the mostly cloudy sky by lunchtime. 85 degrees for you. bumped up your numbers just a touch for today in the south bay. high clouds, 91 degrees, fog then sunshine in san francisco. looking good in the north bay at 95 degrees for today. it's going to be rather warm in oakland. touching on the upper 70s here. and looking pretty good today in the tri-valley. although it's going to be hot. 99 degrees for you. although without the humidity, you probably won't notice a difference between yesterday and today. the humidity makes it feel hotter. through the next couple days. more changes coming your way, just in time for the weekend. we still have some of those warm

you're watching "today in the bay." welcome back. looking live at the twinkling lights of san jose this morning on a mild start to this thursday. temperatures, they're going to be hot, more on that in just a bit. this small plane that clipped the top of a target store before crashing into a san diego parking lot lost power on takeoff. an 80-year-old passenger was killed and the pilot is seriously hurt. you can see the front of the plane is destroyed. police say after the plane grazed the store, it knocked down a light pole, two people were treated for minor burns. follow up now to 900 cars stranded in the murky water in the underground garages at ucla. officials are saying as much as

20d million gallons of water gushed from a broken pipe, flooding parts of the university. twice the amount of water they first thought. sunset plvd's boing to stay closed until at least tomorrow. they're working to repair that massive sink hole there. six buildings were damaged including the poly pavilion. it buckled, parts will need to be replaced. last night, six men pumping out standing water from the pavilion were treated for exposure to carbon monoxide from a generator. they should be okay. today makes the second largest kwsh mexico's largest sister city, they will recognize the designation at the fairmont hotel. the high-tech center has strong business ties to san jose. trade and investment relationships are expected to strengthen with the two becoming sister cities. tesla signed with pan sonic to build that massive battery plant somewhere in the u.s. the company announced a deal

shore. overall it's going to be hot, feeling pretty typical for this time of year on sunday we're going to hit averages for this time of year. overall, i wanted to show you it is going to be on the warm side here if you're going to stick around, stay in town for saturday and sunday. 91 in the south bay for saturday. cool off to about 88 degrees on sunday. still staying warm, that's ac territory. if you wanted to head out of town, let me show you, california's looking good this weekend. and a lot of people will be getting out of town after all school is starting up soon. over the next couple weeks. 82 degrees in tahoe for tomorrow. you'll hit 82 degrees out there on saturday. and 83 on sunday. sow tahoe's looking warm, but that's not too bad. i want to show you it's going to be hot. the russian river valley, 103 degrees for tomorrow. 98 degrees on saturday. and you'll cool down to 93 degrees, but the best part is jumping into that russian river to cool off. if you want to hit the coast, comfortable conditions persist all weekend long.

whew. san francisco transportation experts will be in the south bay today to talk abt putting san jose's billions of dollars worth of public transportation to good use. the city's planning an urban research association says despite all the money that's being spent on improving mass transit has not changed much in the last 40 years. the association will offer research and recommendations for thousand make it easier to get around in the south bay with public transit. you can expect more lane closures on the golden gate bridge for the rest of the week as construction crews can plan to prepare an removable median. from 9:00 tonight until 5:00 tomorrow morning, the northbound right lane will be closed. vista point will also be closed. what a bummer. as well as the alexander avenue off-ramp. the movable median is a steel barrier that will help divide traffic and eliminate head on collision. crews expect to finish this by next year. >> there was a time which highway 85 didn't have a median.

didn't have the a fence. >> that's unbelievable. just on highway 99. >> right. and it was deadly, it was awful. let's check in with mike this morning, hopefully nothing too bad. >> you're right, this is amazing on a freeway we have no divider there. it just cones right now in the golden gate bring. bay bridge toll plaza, we see cars waiting in the cash lanes. we talk about that as an alternate. the bart system is experiencing delays, we'll look at the chart and outlining 15 to 20 minute delays reported for the mcarthur station and daily city station. we have that listed there as the issue for transit. the rest of the agencies reporting no delays. tracking equipment problem reported overnight. again out of dayty city, then later, mcarthur station towards the peninsula as well as the east bay. there are a couple of problems there. this could ripple out to the rest of the system. meanwhile, map shows you the smooth drive. those are around the bay and not a lot of slowing. folks may want to avoid the bay bridge and watch the san mateo
