from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." well good morning everyone, happy friday. it's 4:30, i'm scott mcgrew. >> it is friday, i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. looking live this morning at downtown san jose. believe it or not, a spare the air day. expected to be a hot one. let's check our microclimate forecast with meteorologist christina loren, hi christina. >> hey good morning, kris, scott, everybody at home. today will be the hottest of the next seven. we're talking about triple digits in the extreme east bay. if you work outdoors, grab an extra water bottle. we are starting out at 67 degrees in livermore always here

in the bay area. looking for the cooler weather. just head to the beach. we have great beach conditions to tell you about. first though, let's check that drive, last day of the workweek, mike. we don't want any problems. >> no, we don't. unfortunately someone has had a problem in fremont, christina. live shot. southbound with the headlights, few in the northbound headlights past the truck scales. just north of there a look at maps. we're talking about 880 at automall parkway and some were there southbound, reports of a crash and no major injuries and in fact it happened just as i was passing through the area. i didn't see it, i don't think i was at fault either or no one around the me. i'm going to double check my record here. we're looking at a smooth drive through the yaer. connecting between 680 and 880 is all right. rest of the bay looking all right. zooming in towards san francisco. and the bay bridge is all right, but we do already issues part

muni system. we have bus bridge in place for muni. stephanie chuang's at the castro station. you have the issue with the castro lines for the electrical systems. you have more details, what do you have going on there? >> reporter: yeah, good morning, mike. and this could be a serious problem for the morning commute if this isn't fixed soon. we're talking about no power inbound at the devote junction. video, second truck just pulled up half an hour ago at the junction where crews are rk woing on fixing the problem. it is an underground tunnel, that's at church and market that you have both the end juda and jay church lines that converge there. also k, l, and m lines, inbound heading into downtown. this means none of these lines can get past church. what this also means is you won't be able to get downtown. howell, montgomermontgomery, so people not really using it right now, in fact the castro street

station doesn't open until 6:00. what they planned is to run shuttle bus schs bus bridge between castro street station and the embarcadero station by the ferry building. that's the latest, and we'll keep e it tuned and we're talking to the officials for updates. >> major impact for those muni lines j through m. there's a bus bridge in place. that castro station doesn't open until 6:00 a.m. we'll track that as far as your traffic through san francisco meanwhile, back to you. >> thank you much. the new levi stadium in santa clara about to get its first official test. tomorrow night, the san jose earthquakes take the field, 44,000 fans watching. just in the couple hours, dozens of cleats will begin for the first time. >> "today in the bay's" derek shore is live at the stadium, derek, how's it looking so far? >> reporter: well, i think it looks beautiful out here. you can see this beautiful sign letting everyone known

prominently that the san jose earthquakes soccer team is set to take on out seattle sounders tomorrow evening. yesterday workers spent time making final preparations on the billion dollar plus state of the art facility. it'll mark the first major ticketed it event to take place here at levi stadium since it broke ground about two years ago. after a lot of work. and while it will not be the 49ers taking the field, the earthquakes are excited. they've sold out more than 44,000 tickets sold, that was their cap despite the stadium's ability to house more than 60,000 fans. while we le have to wait and see what happens tomorrow. i can tell you both teams say they think everything will go very smoothly. now, as for the 49ers, they will take the field for the first time on yours truly's birthday. august 17th, on a sunday, i do believe. as for the earthquakes, they are taking et field, that is because their facility is not quite ready. and a team representative

these images from levi stadium. each brick layed with a special personized message. they're already sold out. those made up the sf logo at entrance of the stadium. there are bricks available in the plaza location. somewhere in that mix is a brick that was purchased by a group of seattle sea hawks it fans. group won't say exactly what e personalized brick says, they say you'll know when it they see it. instead of keeping it, they donated to the rest of bryan stow, his fund for him and his family. they also sent the family a seahawks t-shirt saying 12 is greater than 49 in reference to seattle's 12th man and the rivalry with the 49ers. that's nice, you keep it civil. >> still need to beat them in the game. this is a look at how the parking will be laid out around the stadium. lots of lots around levi stadium

ye pleaded not guilty to numerous charges including corruption, fraud, and racketeering yesterday. prosecutors say ye and former san francisco school board president keith jackson solicited bribes and campaign donations in exchange for political favors. ye has talked to his attorney about where to go from here. he now faces 165 years in prison. six people will spend the weekend recovering from injuries after an elderly man drove his car on to a busy sidewalk in palo alto. happened during lunch hour yesterday in front of the university cafe. you have the 19-year-old driver himself. police say the man hit the gas instead of the brake. two people were hurt much worse than others. they have long recoveries ahead of them. >> two people here who look to be in very bad shape so much

respiratory issues or your kids do. limit outdoor activity for today. best time to get outdoors is in the morning hours. that's the best air quality. as we get into the this weekend. we're going to take the temperatures down just a touch. you'll notice considerable cooling at the coast by sunday. and it's going to stay hot in your inland valley spots all the way through the weekend. next week, prolonged warmth will continue, but i can tell you it doesn't look like we're going to see levels like we're expecting today at all. this is the hottest of the next seven. 91 degrees for the south bay. 84 on the peninsula. 82 on the east shore today, and 72 degrees. san francisco. meanwhile, wine country, you're going to hit the low 90s as well. hot spots out in the tri-valley. that's where we're expect kpk 99 to maybe 105 degrees. we will keep you updated. i have some great tips on how to beat the heat, plus there's a lot going on across the bay yay and we have tabs on all the big events. first let's check your drive, here's mike inouye. >> unfortunately we have a big event for 580.

developing story in the middle east where an israeli-hamas truce has unravelled just hours after it was put in place. a palestinian official say israeli shelling killed 35 palestinians in southern gaza. u.s. and u.n. announced a three-day cease-fire starting today. the railds military says militants have fired eight rocket ts at israel since the cease-fire began, and within the past hour, israeli army says it

feared gaza militants have captured one of its soldiers. series of gas explosions in taiwan killed at least 24 people and injured hundreds more. four firefighters are among the dead. explosions tore through the second largest city in an area where the chemical companies operate pipelines and that makes it so that crews can not put the flames out with water. they have to wait for the gas to burn off. the faa is putting new restrictions on u.s. airlines flying over iraq. the new restrictions ban u.s. carriers from flying at or below 30,000 feet over iraq. several european airlines have also made alternate flight plans. authorities fear militants may have weapons capable of shooting down planes that move comes two weeks after a malaysia airlines flight was shot down in ukraine. dow saw the worst performance in months on thursday and the jobs number comes in a few minutes. jackie deangelis live with a

preview, good morning, jackie. >> reporter: good morning, busy day for a friday actually here. we're watching the futures closely. they're pointing to a lower open on wall street. after stocks sold off sharply on thursday. now the dow had the worst day since early february. it's monthly to climb since january. and traders are pointing at several factors including the debt default and tensions in russia and israel. there's also some fear ourt there that recent economic data may prompt the fed to raise interest rates sooner than expected. big news today is all-july's jobs report which is expected to show solid hiring for a sixth straight month. dow tumbling 317 points. the online retailer's staff is 95% white and asian. more than half are men and three quarters command the highest salary. women make up less than 30% of

we're going to take your temperatures down by about five to ten degrees between today and tomorrow. we're going to level off, but bovr average for this time of year. not too bad though. i have to tell you, we're sparing the air for today, as we get an onshore flow over the weekend. we will spare the air by sunday. tomorrow, likely to stir the air again. 67 livermore and 61 degrees in san jose. high pressure bringing in that stagnant air mass. it also forces all of our moisture right to the surface. we have a lot of low level fog out there this morning. mike and i will be simultaneously be tracking that for you. that'll impact your drive at the immediate coast. quick warming today, it's going to warm up rapidly by lunch time, you're going to be in the 90s. then even once that sun drops off, it'll be mild overnight. 91 degrees for the south bay. 84 degrees on the peninsula. 67 degrees. today in san francisco, that's the cool spot where you're getting the low cloud, however, that's the ocean side of the city.

on the bay side, you're talking about a 77 degree day potentially right downtown. it's going to be hot out there. make sure you're ready for that. if you want to get out of town this weekend, we have you covered. sonoma wine train, mid-90s out in wine country by saturday. low 90s for sunday. 17 mile drive. this is a perfect time of year to check that out if you have not had an opportunity to central coast, gorgeous. 82 degrees on saturday, 79 degrees on sunday. then yeah, the board walk as you know, this closes up when school starts in the fall. so if you want to get throughout, one last hurrah, 86 on saturday. overall the hot streak will continue to next week. we're going to drop from the 90s and keep them from the 80s in the south bay. upper 60s continue for san francisco. back to you guys. >> thank you very much, christina. new this morning, tow trucks have been streaming into and out of a parking garage on the ucla campus that was swamped during tuesday's water main break. yesterday crews removed nearly

300 yards on the upper levels and did not get damaged. those will be taken to another lot where owners can pick them up. no word yet on when the damaged cars that were all in the water will be removed. lawyers say it could be another year for discrimination lawsuit filed against bart reaches a courtroom. seven african american men who work the at bart's track departments filed this lawsuit in december claiming they've been dealing with racism at workplace. the men report things like being passed over for promotions and having threats and races for marks squalled over their markers. they do say management did not properly respond no their complaints. >> the first manager, he told me he was too busy so i went to the next manager, he was very slow reactive of handing a the situation. >> we are in 2014, and it is unspeakable to have to deal with this. >> yesterday, bart's general

manager said the agency is investigating the incident in which someone wrote racial slurs on lockers. she also says bart hired outside investigators to look into the relationships. among the workers in that affected department. members of an east palo alto church say they have been robbed by the last person they would expect, their own pastor. and now they're suing him. members at born again christian center say they allowed pastor andre harris and his wife, as shown in this photo to live in a church-owned home rent-free since early 2000. pastor harris abruptly announced his retirement in may and put the house and the church up for sale. when church members pulled deed, they discovered that the two properties had been transferred to harris's name. members say he did that by appointing his own family members to the church's board of trustees. >> it dwindled down to just his family being on the trustee board which he knew wasn't right. >> the house was recently sold

for just less than $400,000. church members are suing to have that sale rescinded and to prevent the church building from being sold. well it's 4:52. newest member of the oakland a's is a bay area native and he's talking about his goals next. and we're looking at the golden gate bridge, traffic into the city this way is just fine. through the city we have a problem for your line. j through n, metro line has a problem. and we have an issue for 580 both directions for livermore. both of those coming up.
