from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." well good morning everyone, happy monday, 4:30 i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to, first, let's check the forecast. good morning. >> and good morning, interesting weather to talk about. that's not holding up to what you'd normally expect to see in august. we have a chance of showers from the east. right now rain in the sierra trying to creep over around tracy in the altamont pass. we had brief showers earlier this morning. that is a sign of things to come as the morning clouds break up. partly cloudy around midday. chance of showers especially up into the north bay.

and increasing chance we could see thunder in the mix too. temperatures today, close to 80 in san jose. morgan hills could see a stray shower or brief thundershower. notice the temperatures into the north bay and tri-valley. full look at this change ahead in your seven day forecast in a few minutes. here's mike. >> we have an issue, big delay for the bart system. 20 to 25 minutes out of daly city heading over to the east bay, some sort of unspecified equipment problem on the track is all we're hearing. the roads getting out the peninsula and heading towards the east bay. eastbound 80 droosz the a -- across the bay bridge. earlier crash in richmond, serving cleared up. we'll hold it there for one report. meanwhile rest of the bay, no clear downs. there's another fenlder bender in the south bay. and i'll bring that to you in the next report. california firefighters are stretched thin. we have a cal fire map of

california. each one of these red spots represents a fire. they're battling more than a dozen are in northern california. one of the biggest is the iylor fire. the fire near quadrupled in size. eight homes, 20 sheds and barns, forcing the evacuation of a number of houses and a small hospital even in the town of bernie. the governor declared a state of emergency. that clears the way for federal aid. there could be more evacuations. >> you have to have your backs packed. all your clothes ready, tents, sleeping bags, all that stuff ready to go and be out the door within an hour of the crawl call. >> crews are now helping out from the bay area. strike teem left from san jose. no clear word on where they're headed, just north to help out with the more than dozen fires burning. another strike team from alameda county is on its way to help. >> the engines that are in this strike team are your normal

municipal structure protection we would use to fight a house fire. >> we're going to do whatever it takes. >> the weather is going to pray a big -- play a big part in the fires. there is a possibility of lightning strikes, but then again, also rain in the area as well. and this morning, bulldozers push tons of mud off the road where hundreds of children were trapped at a church camp in southern california. 500 kids and adults spent the night at forest home, church camp near big bear lake because mud slides blocked roads in and out of camp. the mud slides were the result of thunderstorms that dumped rain in an hour. one person died when debris swept a car off into a creek. crews rescued five people mount balding is searching for others who also need help. nchlly quiet south bay neighborhood on edge after a shooting in two armed robberies.

those happened near downtown campbell. police say a man shot two people around midnight saturday outside the first bank at campbell and union avenue. then just a few minutes later. man watching the description robbed someone at gunpoint just a few blocks away. those were taken to the hospital. police are not releasing their conditions this morning. the person robbed the second incident was not hurt. neighbors say crime in the area is practically nonexistent. a man accused rather of crashing the stolen van and injuring five people in san francisco is expected in court this morning. 25-year-old anthony wiser is charged with a ten felonies including hit and run, reckless driving, and vehicle thefts. he tried to escape a traffic stop in the tenderloin neighborhood. he crashed a stolen van into a taxi injuring a nearby bicyclist and pedestrian. wiser received minor injuries and was arrested. turning to the developing story in the middle east where

seven hour cease-fire now in effect to open a window for humanitarian aid. hamas says it's skeptical that will hold. meanwhile, israel says it pulled out most of the ground troops out of gaza have destroying most of the militant tunnels found beneath border. they launched operation july 8th. it sent ground forces in nine days to destroy the network of tunnels it says are used by hamas to carry other tests. supporters of israel will hold rallies today. the rally starts at noon at civic center plaza in san francisco. intelligence sources meanwhile says israel spied on secretary of state john kerry while he was in the middle east. according to the international business times, israeli spies intercepted kerry's phone calls and listened to his conversations while he was trying to get israel and hamas to agree to a cease-fire. the sources say the israeli

government then used that information in its negotiations. it's 4:35, city of palo alto imposing new water restrictions tonight. under the new restrictions, using hoses without shut off valves would be prohibited letting the sprinkler water run off into gutters and sidewalks and driveways would be violations. anyone caught violating the restrictions could be fined up to $500 per day. the move comes after the state adopted emergency drought regulations last month ordering local governments to cut back on water use. a minute ago, lightning, yes, but also possibly some rain for northern california. rob joins us in for christina, good morning. >> good morning, very important pattern to start the workweek. now drifting further to the north into the central area, you see the showers on the west slope and we did have some showers briefly around the altamont pass and near livermore, those have weakened.

more of the moisture will continue to spill to the west to this monsoon moisture coming up out of southern california which caused a number of problems late yesterday. now that system will continue to move into northern california which will complicate fire fighting efforts in extreme northern california. a chance of seeing some showers as well and as you can see, bait area looking at this later today on into tuesday. with the clouds and the mugginess outside. temperatures close to 80 around san jose. best chance of seeing showers today will be in the east bay and north bay hills. highs in the 60s, north bay mid-70s. temperature trend a bit cooler to start the week with a chance of showers through tuesday. then those numbers rebound into the low 90s around the tri-valley for the second half of the week. another check now of the morning commute, here's mike. >> all right rob. we'll talk the crash i saw on reports here. this is 101 in san jose. we're talking about 680

southbound coming down towards the section of 101. traffic is moving smoothly. the earlier crashes looks like it was earlier this morning. all that's remaining it paperwork. no issue at the scene itself. also some construction 280 northbound right at 87, and that may be held up for a few minutes. rest of your south bay and bay of the roads moving smoothly, but we have the big concern, growing delays for bart. 4:15, minor delays out of daly city. now major delays. it's anything from 20 to 25 minutes or more over towards the east bay. unspecified equipment problem on the track is what we're hearing. major delaying out of the daily city. we'll track it and sended it back to you. parts of the road in oakland will be closed intermittently from the this morning until friday. putting the final touches at oakland international airport. the new airport connecter operating between the airport and the coliseum bart station.

francisco this morning. hazmat crews on the scene of a beached boat near the cliff house. dispatchers say the boat did spill fuel. they're working to clean it up. we don't know if there are people on board the boat or how long its been beached. also new this morning, up to 250 people are missing and feared dead following a ferry accident in bangladesh. the ferry capsized this morning as it was crossing a river. miss in the area and the passengers would have been able to swim to safety, but it's likely many were feared trapped and downed. it's unclear what caused thor in troy go down. china says at least 380 people were killed in more than 1800 injured when a strong earthquake rattled the southern part of the country. the chinese news agency says about 12,000 homes collapsed in a densely populated county in the mountains. 2500 troops were dispatched to that area. they've within going through neighborhoods trying to find survivors. the usgs says it was 6.1.

struck about six mimes below the surface. second american missionary sickened with ebola will head to the u.s. tomorrow. she will head straight to the unit in atlanta. her colleague arrived in the same hospital over the weekend. they contracted the virus by working for smair tin's purse in liberia. people in toledo, ohio reason with being told not to drink their tap water after a toxin was found in the water supply over the weekend. officials in toledo issued that warning early saturday after tests revealed the presence of the toxin. possibly from algae on lake eerie. two days later, they say more testing needs to be done. they are trucking in waters and other supplies for about 400,000 people until the water is deemed safe. general motors opened up a fund for the families of the

deadly ignition switch problem. courtney reagan live with the details, good morning, courtney. >> reporter: good morning, scott. general motors started accepting claims for the fund. the automaker set up to pay victims of crashes caused by faulty ignition switches. gm already absorbed a 400 million dlal charge to cover the potential payments from the fund. they recalled about 2.6 million vehicles worldwide due to the switches and admitted it knew about the issues for more than a decade. futures are high they are morning, partly on news that portugal is bailing out, the country's largest bank. the dow posting its worst weekly design since january. the s&p 500 is worth in the more than two years. there's no economic data today, but we'll go forward this week on the trade receive i did the, and worker productivity. the dow falling 69 points on friday to 16,493. the nasdaq losing 17 to 4352. the u.s. government is close to deciding to continue to prohibit

areas east of tracy in livermore. take you closer to the bay area, you can see a few showers briefly around the altamont pass and perhaps a few sprinkles around the hill tops around month diablo. that's going to change as we go through the next 24 to 36 hours as the very unusual pattern for august begins to set up r for us. we're going see the monsoon moisture which caused a number of problems in california. the low lifted to the north, it's going to approach lake tahoe during the afternoon and that's going to push more of the moisture closer to the bay area. you'll notice. muggy conditions outside today and a chance of seeing scattered showers. now the best bet for seeing accumulating rainfall around the bay area likely will come in later tonight on into tuesday. you see how most of the moisture over the sierra as we head towards later tomorrow into the afternoon on tuesday for the north bay could see brief thunder showers there. and if we can manage any rain for august, anything that wets the ground will break records around the bay area.

the expectations are over the next 36 hours, looks like we'll see our best accumulations possibly around the north bay, brief downpours, could be good nor fire fighting efforts in northeastern california. but with the thunderstorms come lightning strikes and may not be enough rain coming down to put out some spot fires. have to watch that for fire danger concerns as well. at least into the tuesday. 80 in san jose, mid-80s around saratoga. closer to morg. hill or gilroy, shower or thundershower. better chance for tomorrow though. for the north bay, highs in the mid-70s around santa rosa, there you see pleasanton and livermore, mild for now. low to mid-80s today. risk of showers carrying over into tuesday then the skies will clear and the temperatures climbing up, back in the low 90s and more typical august weather for the second half of the week, back to you. >> thank you very much, rob. 4:48, popular lake in tuolumne sknt closed after a dam sprung a leak.

>> what i thought was dynamite going off down the canyon. i looked out at the rock and i saw poof of what they thought was steam at first, but realized it was dust. >> damaged the lake made. large granite rocks. the rock cracked in four places causing that leak. water officials don't think the dam will fail, but they're releasing the water from the lake to bring that batter level down below the crack. just as a precautionary measure. new this morning, historic sunset boulevard is back pope days after this massive water main break flooded the area causing a serious sic hole as -- sink hole as well. parts have been closed since it burst last week. last tuesday, about 20 million gallons of water gushed on to the road and into campus damaging new hardwood floor in the pavilion as well and underground parking garages were flooded. about 400 cars damaged. it is 4:49, new indication we could see outdoor hockey come

the bay." welcome back, everyone. taking a live look outside before the sun comes up, this is mccovey cove, giants, they are east in new york playing the mets today. early game, 9:10. well a lot of people got to say good-bye to candle stick. they got a chance to officially say good-bye on the field. candle stick farewell community day. the last free event at the stadium before it closes once and for all. there were carnival rides, food trucks, and stadium tours. got to take pictureses with giant's mascot lucille and the 49ers mascot. to be clear that man was not sour dough man. sir paul mccartney performed. new home of the 49ers, baited test is over. the lessons learned from the earthquake's game at levi stadium should help them be ready for their first game in two weeks. most of the fans gave the experience a thumb's up.

they said it was relatively easy to find parking, but neighbors say fans were parking on the streets and some people's carports. only people with special permit stickers were allowed. no one was checking for them. >> part of me can tell you there's going to be a lot to change. hear from the neighbors to see what they've experienced and try to constantly improve upon that. we'll look at how we might be able to bring in additional staff if that's what it means. >> fans did complain about crowded trains. more than 8,000 people used light rail. vta says it'll make more changes before the 49ers first game, that's in less than two weeks. >> i was there, they have to work on some things, most defini definitely. >> with pro-football, high school football they're going to play there, and soccer. there's a lot in store for the stadium. we may be able to add hockey to the list. >> it is beautiful. yahoo sports blocker caught this posting on ticket master.

last people to purchase tickets for the 2015 nhl series game between the l.a. kings and san jose sharks. ed it take place on february 21st. ticket master pulled that listing about three hours after it was posted. now while this is not an official announcement from the league, the sharks admitted the team is interested in the outdoor games. officials above at&t park and levi stadium were talking about the possibility of outdoor hockey, we will see. >> let's hope. in the men time, let's check in with -- meantime, let's check in with mike inouye. >> you'll have delays like some people were complaining about regarding the levi stadium, 25 minutes or more. look at the maps. we're talking about daly city in bart station where we have delays reported out of the daly city station. that means folks were heading over towards pittsburgh and dublin and over to the east bay. no word on trains coming in. no delays reported for that

"today in the bay." from northbound bay area -- nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." and a very good monday morning to you, thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. we'll start with rain or lightning in the forecast today. we're giving you a live look at san jose. meteorologist rob maetta joins uses with a closer look at the very unusual water, good morning. >> extremely unusual when you consider this is one of the driest times of the year, normally. not the case this morning around the sierra, rain there, and at times few showers very early this morning around the central valley out by tracy. those have weakened, but as we go through the day, we're going to continue top see the moisture spilling off the sierra after the morning clouds and coastal drizzle break up. variable clouds heading into the afternoon, and late today into early tomorrow, that's going to be the best bet for seeing some of that monsoon moisture coming in which could trigger some thundershowers which is a mixed blessing of sorts for the
