friday morning light commute. so far what i having nicely. >> and a live look today outside. it's friday, 8/8. this is a look at today in the bay. >> good morning and thank you for joining us. >> i'm laura garcia cannon. tropical storm iselle made landfall on the big island of hawaii. overnight the storm hovered off the coast of the island, losing steam when it came ashore. it had been downgraded to a tropical storm. mike is on the island with his family and he tweeted out the images of the storm preparations. he and his family are ready for the storm. >> we were able to get the water we wanted and food we wanted yesterday. we went today midday and we noticed that there was

tremendous line and for instance the deli counter with the premade sandwiches and the counter was bare. all the shelves were bare. if i let my kids, they would have plenty of cake for dinner because those shelves were full. we opted for the traditional dinner foots. they had plenty of lunch meat and bread and stuff. >> they started clearing out to get ready for the storm. in about 13 minutes, we will go live to hawaii for the latest on tropical storm iselle and hurricane julio. >> in the middle east, israeli missiles and palestinian rockets flying across the border after a ceasefire expired. chris sanchez joins with us what this means for the peace talks in egypt.

firing into the territory. a spokesman for the palestinian militant group hamas said though the ceasefire would not continue, negotiations mediated by egypt would. we will tell you who is claiming responsibility for firing the shots. >> 5:03 and police are looking for a man who reportedly groped a woman on a popular hiking trial at stanford. it happened at stanford avenue just a block away from the dish. live in that area, police do have a description of the man they are looking for? >> reporter: you are correct. the woman who was groped by this man was fortunately able to get a good look at her attacker to get a detailed description out there. he is a white man in his 20s and tall, about 6'3". a thin build. had a tattoo on his right arm with some sort of writing that

she was not able to identify and he was walking a great pit bull. he groped this woman as you mentioned. he then continued down stanford avenue. he was wearing a light blue shirt with blue jeans. the department would love to hear from you if you saw something or this guy sounds familiar to you. just last week, palo alto police arrested this man was allegedly hugging and forcing his way on to a woman by kissing her. this was about a month ago. police say he forced another woman to see if she was married or had a boyfriend. he tried to sit down, but she walked away and never had any physical contact. you have two incidences, but the 58-year-old has been arrest and they are looking for a man in his mid 20s and as i mentioned,

last night he groped a woman in this area not far from the kidih which is a very, very popular hiking trail in this area. >> people should be on alert. >> friends and family gathered to say goodbye to 20-year-old ernesto sanchez was shot to death on ttd while celebrating a friend's birthday. a woman was shot and expected to survive. the shooting was gang-related. he said he is not in a gang. he graduated from wilcox high school. he is passionate, happy, and a wonderful guy. so far no arrests. >> the marin county sheriff's department is trying to reunite bicycles. the office will put 130 bikes and bike parts on this way at the marin county center between 11:00 and 2:00 on sunday. all the womans were wuled from

change. the high pressure will give up an area performing just off to the west. that will pull more moisture our way late in the weekend. we could see a chance of showers maybe in the north bay hilltops as we get towards monday. stay tuned. the sea brose and the low clouds and they start weekend. by sunday night into monday, we could see them making a return to the bay area in the seven-day forecast. watch out for that. 82 today in san jose and upper 80s around saratoga. about 75 degrees and around san francisco, temperatures in the upper 60s. highs in the 80s and warmer places around livermore and sunol. around 86 in danville. weekend plans with san jose jazz summerfest and temperatures comfortably in the 80s. we have the outside land's music festival and that weather looks

good. the temperatures running in the 60s out of golden gate park with morning clouds and misty skies at times as we get to the picture. the traffic is starting to have issues earlier. the on ramp issue and willow road on northbound 101. that could cause delays and distractions on the road. here's a look at 101. travel times looking okay. 101 and the volume is picking up and friday light for now. that's how it looks heading over to san francisco. picking up, but no issues so far on the europe approach there to the bay bridge. heading to the airport, all the travel times in the grown. no problems on 101 or 80. the travel times in the trivalley are starting to slow a little bit from the livermore area. highway 84 you are seeing speeds down to 39 miles per hour. still not too bad. grant line road heading over to 54 miles per hour.

they will be tracking both weather and traffic and the update on tropical storm iselle coming up in a couple of minutes. >> caltrans closing one of the four bore in the eastbound lane will be shut down at 8:00 tonight for maintenance work. here's video of a previous construction. caltrans said it will be like the old days for drivers heading from oakland to orinda. they hope to be done by sunday, but it could take until monday morning. get ready for good music. >> the music festival gets under way in san francisco. today in the bay is live at golden gate park this morning. this was a record year for the festival. that's right. good morning, laura and scott. it's the fourth year in a row where tickets sold out, but in record time this year selling out within 24 hours.

tropical storm iselle has made landfall and on the big island. the storm was downgraded from the hurricane to a tropical storm overnight. there were still strong winds and heavy rape in the area. today in the bay's jennifer is live in honolulu this morning. what's it like out there? >> it's pretty windy out here still, but nothing like what they are experiencing on the big island this morning. hilo is experiencing power outages and rock slides. we heard minor gentlemen of the juries and things like trees down. we won't know until first light. this tropical storm is still producing hurricane force winds and it is making landfall in hilo. >> a big storm blowing and followed by a second one ratcheted up to a category three

hurricane. before iselle touched the shores, they flooded the tide pools as people made their last minute runs to carry them over. >> they ran out of gas and we got what we got. >> they're have run out of two grades of gas and many stations are offering premiums at regular prices if that's all they have left. >> for us, i have been through hurricane iwa. you have to keep the car rolling. >> we have water and i have 18 sausage. we are good to go. now i have gas. >> after all the preps, trying to wait it out and hope it was all enough. hilo towns desserted and many businesses waiting for the skies to clear until first light. we won't know how hilo fares.

the uncertainty is what will happen when julio will come in in a few days and joins her. live in honolulu for today in the bay. >> thank you much. does it matter when iselle comes through and what happens as far as julio? can iselle affect where yuleio goes? >> sometimes. it can absorb a lot of energy that can rob the energy behind it. jowlio is maintaining what happened with the warm water. they did strengthen up to a category three. they are far enough apart. it is further to the north and we do think that storm should track away. the power of the storm and we think that normal track should take it away from the hawaiian islands. you see it there crossing the coast of the big island right now. hilo with 41 mile per hour winds.

you saw jennifer in honolulu. 36 mile per hour winds here. that's an example of tropical storm force winds. it crosses the center half and the igest impact will be the wind gusts in the higher hills near 70 miles per hour. a foot of rain coming down will cause a lot of extremely glad flooding along the coast. flash flooding at times and the tall mountain areas and around the volcanoes from mauna kea to mauna loa. that's to the south of maui and oahu, but tropical storm force impacts here on the hawaiian islands. julio with winds of 120 miles per hour, but we think it will curve away from the hawaiian islands and that will be by sunday morning. it looks like for now if the

forecast holes, yuleio curves away. nothing tropical about the weather. those are the low clouds. let's bring the mist and drizzle at times. that's around san francisco and the coast and through the afternoon, hazy sunshine. we will see the highs in the valleys and the 80s to near 90. comfortably cool. 60s to low 70s closer to the seashore as you go through later on. it will be interesting by sunday. we could see a tropical connection. more moisture is wrapped up around an area of low pressure which will approach the coast sunday into monday. north bay hilltops and possibly the coastal rains with a chance of showers. not until monday, but stay tuned. the second half of the weekend could see the impacts into the beginning of next week. we should see closer to san francisco with 80s and around the trivalley. temperatures into the 80s to

near 90 today. that should be close to where the weekend temperatures will shape up. 80s and 90s. north bay notice on sunday, a slight chance of hill top thundershowers. the morning commute is getting more complicated. you have the right lane blocked and that is causing issues. in solano county, a serious alert. a vehicle on its side on the right hand side of the road. it could be a big interaction for you and eastbound 80. the travel times starting to slow down here with the accident car on the side on the right hand lane and near the right hand shoulder of eastbound 80. another view of the traffic times in the trivalley starting to see them slow out of livermore down towards the road. 42 miles per hour drive times and 53 miles per hour if you go from grand line road to the 580-6080 interchange. >> thank you much.

french investigators say the black box board the airplane that crashed in mali that was unreadable. the aircraft had lot of speed and height before the final plunge. the plane went down on july 24th on the way to al jers. they believe bad weather was a major factor, but they haven't ruled out other explanations like pilot error or something deliberate. the malaysian government taking over the airlines to restructure the company. they already owned a majority of the airline and announced it would buy out share holes to overhaul the business. they struggled with a flight disappearing over the ocean in march and a flight shot down over eastern ukraine. >> the regulars get ready to start the preseason. we have details next.

being threatened and they are in danger. >> thank you. iselle has moved into hawaii and bringing with it heavy rain and strong winds and the tropical storm made landfall on the island last night after covering off the coast for hours. during that time it did lose power and was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm around 2:00 this morning. mike is on the big island and it was supposed to be a vacation, but he is constantly updating us. this is the crew at his hotel. they don't want projectiles during high winds. inside the hotel, you can see a row of sandbags just outside the elevators. we talked to mike last night and he said he feels safe. >> as far as the structure goes, i feel safe. the building itself is concrete. we are on the fourth floor so i don't think we will get

flooding. the whole exterior wall is a sliding glass door. should anything happen, the staff will be able to take care of you. >> we are seeing -- christina mentioned earlier that they have the storms slow down. that's a bit of an issue. the wind speeds too. the problem we have is a tropical rainfall satellite. take a look at the eyewall and saw rain rates applied to seven inches per hour. if you slow the storm down, it takes twice as long to cross the big island and you could be talking about totals close to a foot and a half here more. that will cause more flooding problems as the storm tracks now west northwest down to 9 miles an hour. winds at 60 for tropical storm iselle. you look at the wind speeds

right now. hilo 35 miles per hour. 36 around honolulu. on the weaker side of tropical storm force winds. the strongest is los closer to the center of the storm that is crossing close to volcanoes national park. that's down by kilauea. the heavier rain bands rotating in onshore for the main effect of the storm. widespread winds for the hawaiian island chain. the southern half of the big island and 10 to 20 inches possible. that will take its time by friday. probably late this afternoon and start to slow away from the big island and will spend at least twice as long crossing the big island and dropping a tremendous amount of rain. hurricane julio, but we think that will track a little bit further to the north curving away. good news other than large surf. pick ups in wind speed and up towards kauai.

julio moves off to the north. we have low clouds and misty skies in parts of the bay area. you can see around 101 at willow, we have a few low clouds and patchy clouds around the peninsula. the story as it goes through the weekend will be saturday. a good nice sea breeze upon droing down a couple of degrees. an area forming offshore that will begin to pull moisture out of the south that could trigger monsoon showers even for the bay area possibly by monday. factor that into the weekend plans. stay tuned with the forecast late sunday into monday and we may see a few showers get closer by early next week. 82 in san jose and 90 around morgan hill. you can see up towards the north bay, temperatures in the low 80s. highs near 90 degrees for this afternoon. get away plans forecast for lake

in the house. >> the 9 month old granddaughter was in another room and not hurt. he got away with cash and jewelry. >> less than 24 hours after being released from jail, the lady trying to sneak on the plane is back behind bars. she was ordered to stay away from the airport. on monday she made it past the document check point at san jose airport and boarded the plane to lax even though she didn't have a ticket. she was raved after landing in l.a. on wednesday she pleaded no contest to trespassing and released and directed to a homeless shelter. instead officials say yesterday morning she tried to sneak on to a plane at lax. she is homeless and desperate. >> it's a tragic system. this woman who obviously needs quite a bit of care and help, but she continues to avoid it because you can't keep someone in a homeless shelter against their will. >> she is not new to this.
