"today in the bay's" bob redell joins with us some amazing pictures from overnight, good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura. people gathered for a peaceful ceremony to remember michael brown who was shot and killed by police over the weekend. as you can see in the video we just received, that night became violent. you're looking at what's left of the qt convenience store in ferguson which was looted and destroyed. it appears that someone set it on fire as well. mob of people broke into several businesses and stole goods from the shelves, dozens of police officers from st. louis and surrounding areas rushed to the scene to contain the crowd. not clear how many people were arrested. meantime the st. louis county prosecuting attorney is looking into whether or not saturday's shooting was justified, according to police, michael brown, the 18-year-old man and another person got into a struggle. the officer shot brown several times. turns out brown was unarmed.

his mother says her son was a good kid who was visiting his grandmother at the time he was shot was starting technical school today. >> my son just turned 18. he don't bother nobody. >> he was a good kid. he was a cool kid. he wasn't not troublemaker, he was always quiet. >> police have not identified the officer who shot brown only saying this person is on paid administrative leave. we just received new numbers from police about what happened overnight into the newsroom. we'll have that coming up in a little bit. scott, laura. >> thank you very much, bob. police are h no luck overnight finding suspect who fired at two motorcyclists in san francisco. it happened near hill toep park in the city's bay view district. the victim's tried to escape on their bikes. both crashed trying to get away. both hurt when the bikes crashed and police say at least one of them had been shot, both died at

the hospital. officers searching for the shooter. it's 5:20, the judge sl about to get cleaned up. the city of san jose will again a clean up of the largest encampments as homeless advocates say the city will help to wipe out those perfects who have so little. they are why with why clean is up so unwelcome, good morning. >> good morning to you, laura. now this clean is up focussed on the opposite side of the banks of the coyote creek from where the homeless folks set up their tents and other living arrangements. even that clean up drew protests yesterday as homeless advocates say that the clean up and the fence that's planned for the area will thwart their efforts to help those who have so little. last month, six people were arrested with outstanding warrants. there are an estimated 200 people who call the jungle home and they have nowhere else to go. but with that many people and no services like water or sewage, there have been a lot of

problems with human waste and disease with rats. also with fires started by campfires or cooking stoves. still homeless advocates say if the city is cleaning up the unpopulated side, it'll make it harder to deliver services to people who depend on them. >> this is a back handed way of doing, accomplishing the same thing, by putting a fence around here. the people have no way to have access to this area. and then they cannot feed the people down below. at the same time, the people down below won't be able to come up and get fed. they're forced to go elsewhere to get fed. >> reporter: city officials did respond saying that they will continue to provide access to all organizations working with the city's homelessness response team. the last time there was a clean up of this sort, folks had to be notified in writing so they can gather their things and take them elts where. a lot of folks left the area, waited for the bulldozers and the dumpsters to be gone, then they moved right back in. this is considered one of the biggest homeless encampments in

the united states. in san ohio, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> seems to be growing. thanks sovp, kris. san mateo county will spray for mosquitos again. here's the area that will be targeted. spraying starts tonight, lasts until tomorrow morning, truck will go around the area spraying its insecticide. they're hoping it'll prevent human case of the virus. meteorologist rob mayeda joins with us a look at the forecast. how are we looking for this week? >> interesting weather toe watch around the northern california and the bay area. low clouds moving into san francisco and across the bay this morning, but an increased risk for seeing lightning perhaps in some of the hilltops late today into tomorrow morning. right now 60s for most of the bay area. cool 54 around santa rosa this morning. interesting though as you notice the look here, we're seeing thunderstorms out towards redding and off to the west of the reno and not much in the bay area right now. we could see some changes a

little bit later on. right now red flag warning up for the northern mountains at southern end of the cascades. bay area under a fire weather watch for the regions here in the solano counties. perhaps the eastern half out towards the central valley as later today, we will see some of the moisture stay further to the west that will be giving us all day thundershower activity up towards the high country and low clouds out on the coast. area of low pressure offshore. moisture rotating around it is what's kicking off the slight chance of seeing some thund thundershowers today. most of the action should be off to the north and eaves us. at least during the afternoon. temperatures today near the bay. san francisco, cool and breezy day, and out towards the north bay, highs near 78 and santa rosa. mid to upper 80s around pleasantton. in a moment you'll see that the travel times in the east bay slowed down a bit.

let's look at next weekend. why not look at the positive picture for next weekend? temperatures in the low 20u9 kick off next weekend, then turning cooler toward sunday. so reality check, taking you back to the morning commute now. 101 northbound at hospital curve. northbound accident has been cleared off to the shoulder, you're seeing back up slowing is south of the accident, getting northbound at 101 at hospital curve, east bay commute, starting to turn into the orange there. heading towards livermore leaving mountain house and tracy, heading westbound, a street level view of of that. right now in dublin shows you the traffic westbound coming at you beginning to show down and our dublin travel times slowing down a bit too. you're seeing the miles per hour drop down to 50 miles per hour. and your livermore commute, down highway 84. slowing down to 40 miles per hour as you connect around 680 and head down to sunol grade this morning, back to you. >> thanks so much. it is 5:07, the morning commute getting easier for thousands who cut through fremont. >> after nearly a year, warren

avenue is going to reopen this morning. commuters can use it as an alternative to mission boulevard if they want to get between 880 and 680. stephanie chuang live along the avenue this morning, steph, drivers aren't the only ones happy about this. >> reporter: yeah, just a little bit, understatement. good morning, scott and laura. what warren and cada, quite a bit of people use caddo and warren as a connecter. that wasn't possible up until this weekend actually. the closure has hurt a lot of people including business owners who say they had a lot of people cut off. the road here on warren avenue goes down underneath bart track. this will be bart's access through fremont. the valley transportation authority held a soft opening of one lane in each direction saturday night. for 14 months, drivers had to rely on mission boulevard to get between 680. the bart extension will connect

south fremont to the stations. the closure has led to traffic gridlock which the mayor of fremont had to deal with himself. >> i ended up going probably about ten times further than i used to go around to get there. with warren there, you cut it off. >> reporter: and the city is paying for part of the project. that's supposed to enhance safety, helping not just drivers, but bicyclists and pedestrians who can avoid the trains when they are here. this is of course part of the silicon valley project set to build a 16 mile extension of bart down to santa clara. construction which includes widening mission boulevard to warm springs boulevard is set to finish next spring. and the warm springs is set to open by the end of next year. a lot of progress. in half an hour, we'll hear how much this closure that might seem small to some people, how much its impacted business owners in the area. again, that's coming up in 30 minutes. live in south fremont, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> we'll look forward to it,

you're watching "today in the bay." new orleans police are looking for suspects involved in a drive by shooting that left three people dead and three children hurt. all of the victims were in front of a house when a dark car pull of men started shooting and sped off. 18-year-old female and an unidentified male likely in the

late 20s were pronounced dead at the scene. shooting took place in an area that's been struggling with crime since hurricane katrina. the suspects and possible motive for the shooting have not been released. initials if ukraine say more than 100 prisoners escaped from a high security facility in damacas after it was hit by shilling. the rocket killed at least one inmate. the fugitives included people jailed for murder, robbery, and rape. update to a developing story we now know the obama administration is giving weapon directly to kurdish forces, but we still don't know who exactly is providing the weapons or what is being sent. one says it's not the pentagon. it would only confirm that they're getting arms for various sources. the obama administration is reportedly very close to approving plans for the pentagon to help rearm the kurds as they continue to fight isis in iraq. coming up in 30 minutes, we'll have a live report on efforts to

beat down isis and to rescue refugees stuck on a mountain in iraq. secretary of state john kerry arrived in australia today. he's issued a statement on iraq this morning. kerry urges the people of iraq to remain calm in the face of a political crisis and continue to fight back against isis. he also urged iraq's prime minister not to obstruct the formation of a new government and to shut down. 5:14 this morning spain has imported an experimental ebola drug that was made by a company. it'll be used to treat a spanish missionary after testing positive for the killer virus. the drug was manufactured by a san diego company and brought to madrid over the weekend. the spain drug is being used to treat two americans diagnosed in ebola in liberia. both say conditions are improving. world health organization declared the outbreak in west

africa an international emergency. killing more than 900 people and spreading. to put it the into context, aids alone killing more than a million people every year in africa. a thousand times the toll of this outbreak so far. malaria kills hundreds of thousands of children per year. here in the u.s., the risk of contracting the virus is virtually zero. the flu shoufr blamed for 24,000 u.s. deaths for -- per year. we are live at cnbc for an update, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, futures higher, scott, reversing early loss on friday to finish the week in a black. it was the best day for the dow in five months. we may not have economic data, but there are reports including retail sales, inflation, and sentiment as well as earnings from walmart and macy's. dow jumping 185 on friday.

in the north bay with clear skies this morning. now as we watch the low clouds for the morning, you'll notice they've made their way in almost to the delta this morning. little bit around the tri-valley and mostly clear to partly cloudy still in san jose. mist with the low clouds too on the coast. red flag warning, you'll see the areas in the red. north of into parts of lake county and down the west slope northward, this isn't for dry or breezy conditions, this is the chance for lightning sparked fires for storms like now in the satellite radar. rotating from the south off to the northwest as an area rotates offshore during the day today, we'll see the chance of thundershowers highest over lake tahoe and mt. shasta. later tonight, the yairt of low pressure helping to push in the low clouds on the coast and wrap that moisture up out of the south. that's going to dplosz later tonight. there's a slight chance the moisture may curve further to the west for the most inner parts of the east bay out towards inland county and into

contra costa county tonight. then tomorrow, we're going to get the sea breeze to power up. running several degrees clear thanks to the stronger sea breeze. 83 in san jose. high clouds later on. we'll see temperatures around san francisco cool again. mid to upper 60s today around the north bay, the highs in the 70s to near 80 around san rafael. highs inspect upper 80s around pleasanton still near 90 degrees. morning commute slow northbound 101, that was an earlier accident which was in the left lane, clear to the right hand shoulder, but delays stacking up behind that area. should also point out the eastbound lanes of the tunnel, that lb. lane was just told, just updated right now that that has reopened. it's back to by as usual there on the tunnel for you on eastbound 24 around 580 right now. you see the dlie delays, westbound delays, there's a street levels.

it's beginning to slow down as you'd expect. 680 and the slow downs continue on highway 84 south connecting back to 680 this morning, back to you. the probe continues into saturday night's deadly racetrack accident involving driver tony stewart. authorities do not expect any criminal charges to be filed, but here's what happened. saturday night at a dirt track near watkins glenn, stoout's car struck and killed 20-year-old race car driver kevin ward jr. ward got out of his car to confront stewart about a crash he was walking on the track, gestured at stewart only to be hit by the race car as it passed. >> at this time, there is no evidence in hand or no facts that would support a criminal charge or support criminal intent. >> stewart was going about 40 miles an hour when the incident happened under a yellow caution flag, he did not take part in

you're watching "today in the bay." welcome back to you. u.s. forest service stopping a tree skinning flojt lake tahoe after a -- project in lake tahoe after the concern of impact on frocks. >> the agency has been removing and burning trees and brush near south lake tahoe. the area is a critical habitat for the sierra nevada yellow legged frogs. biologists say the logging threatens the survival of the endangered frogs.

it was meant to lower the risk at lake tahoe. the suit says the forest service failed to state its environmental impact on that area. well al bear finds it unusual place to cool off in southern california. >> set of triplets saw the animal taking a dip and the dad caught it all on camera. >> wow. >> uh-huh. >> at first the kids didn't believe that there was a bear in the backyard or the dad didn't. whp he heard him say big bear, he thought -- >> we just came up from the big bear mountain. what are they talking about, big bear mountain? >> yeah, turns out the kid were right. luckily the triplets decided the water was too cold before the bear came over to the pool. eventually the bear lost interest and left, but the little ones were happy to tell the story again and again and again. >> as they do. >> times three. is it a good day to dip in the pool whether you're a bear

or person, or bearperson? >> for a bear it's always a good day for them to dip in. temperatures in southern california can are fairly warm here. low 60s as you wake up to morning around san francisco and the north bay. 54 around santa rosa. as we go through the morning, it's the misty skies we'll see around san francisco and the coast clearing inland. if you're in the hilltops, closely watching some lightning potential later on as some of that moisture off the sierra tries to kick off a little bit of isolated lightning north of the county later on this afternoon. 38 in san jose today. san francisco in the upper 60s. oakland at 72. pleasanton and livermore in the upper 80s through the afternoon and checking your morning commute. eastbound tunnel closure is no longer. construction wrapping up before 7:00 a.m. that was the skenl, but now it's wide open. all the lanes reopened there on the tunnel. northbound 101 at hospital curve around san francisco, left lane was previously blocked. and that accident now has been pushed over to the right hand

morning. all is calm right now. that could change in a matter of hours. some things that the bay area hills bracing for lightning. rob mie yay da joining us now with a quick look at the weather. >> downtown san jose or major cities fine. we're looking at the hilltops of the north of bay and out towards the delta or the dee -- diablo range. on the northern coastal range due to lightning strike potential for today which was responsible for starting the fires that are still burning right now across parts of northern california. notice early this morning, we have thundershowers rotating in counterclock wise around an area of low pressure offshore that will approach the coast a little bit later on this evening. for now around the bay yar, drizzle and mist along the coast. clearing skies inland, then late in the day, this is when we're going to see our chance for lightning potential. and perhaps parts of the east bay. we'll walk you through the timing hour by hour, rest of the look at afternoon temperatures

coming up for the next forecast in a few minutes, back to you. this morning the san jose city council will clean up a homeless area near coyote creek. kris sanchez live. protesters say the clean up not welcomed, good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning, yeah the protesters say it's going to affect the services they can provide to the homeless who call the jungle home, but at the same time, the city says they're not going into the jungle, what they're focussed on is cleaning the banks on the other side of coyote creek. still the protesters showed up yesterday saying that what they are trying to do is help the homeless and anything that happens down there along the banks of coyote creek is going to impact their access to the people who live down there. just last month, san jose police arrested six people through the encampment who had outstanding warrants. there are an estimated 200 people who call the jungle home who have nowhere aels to go. so many people and the services

8 motel on north first street. investigators say there are no immediate signs of foul play, but that the bodies had likely been there for several days. the women checked in on monday and housekeepers told police a do not disturb sign had been hanging since then. investigators are not sure what happened yet, but they tell nbc bay area they do not believe the public is in danger. >> i'm just really concerned, like if there's something going on that we may not know about. there's really not enough information being passed and to the families out here. >> the third death this weekend took place in the valley on saturday, a man was stabbed to death by his stepson. police say the young man's mother was also hurt in that knife attack. this morning the man accused of impersonating a san francisco police officer allegedly kidnapping two people as well will be back in court. prosecutors say jeffrey buga and another man went to the bar in san francisco in 2008, told the men they were under arrest.

buga took the many tone his house, tried to assault them, threatened to deport them if they told on him. one of the men says he got away after a struggle and was too afraid to report it until this year. the bay area homeless woman who stowed away on a flight out of san jose will be back in a los angeles corm today. maryland hartman is still in police custody in los angeles. she was arrested last week for sneaking on to a southwest airlines flight. days later arrested again when he returned against the judge's order. hartman's court apinted attorney says homelessness and illness led her to keep trying to board flights. she had at least seven encounters with police at sfo. this morning, fire crews in vallejo are trying to figure out what sparked these mass aif flame in an abandoned building. . started after 7:00 last night. at first, crews struggled to douse the flames with water, but eventually let it burn itself out. firefighters say the building was once used by the fire department for fire training.

recently a number of homeless people were living in it. happening now, thousands of firefighters standing their ground against a massive wild fire burning in the county easing as lightning threatens to set them back. the large fire burned nearly 9,000 acres since it was started last week. eight firefighters were hurt friday when the flames suddenly shifted. three of those eight are from the south bay. they were released from the hospital on saturday. right now the fire is only 35% contained, six communities evacuated and dozens of homes are in the line of fire. in the men time, there's lots of threat of lightning not helping firefighters at all, let's check in with rob mayeda. >> firefighter spoeshl out of the sooer -- potential is out in the sierra this morning. but a fire weather watch into lake county, solano county, parts of the delta and the diablo range later today we'll

have to watch and see if the moisture spills away from the sierra. right now it's low clouds and mist out on the coast. mainly outside towards the sierra and nairs north. as this area of low pressure which has been offshore the last couple of days, its been scooping out of the south. and there is that slight chance, isolated shower from that around the north bay or east bay hilltops and tomorrow as the system moves inland. we'll see the sea breeze crank up which you will lead to cooling temperatures. today near 83 degrees in san jose. 87 in saratoga. mostly 60s around san francisco. foster stwi low clouds for the morning, 76 degrees for the afternoon and santa rosa up to 78 degrees. pleasanton 88 degrees and the tri-valley, temperatures dipping down into the mid-80s there for tuesday. then the numbers rebounding closer to 90 as you approach next weekend. now watch with your morning commute, here's the good news. earlier construction that was thought to be going on until

7:00 this morning did wrap up early on eastbound left hand lane. back to normal we hear on the tunnel this morning. 101 northbound at hospital curve, previous accident did block the left lane that has now been cleared, still some travel delays there approaching the scene, now a new accident here and you see it showing up clearly here. westbound 580. this is causing a wrench in your east bay commute this morning. you're now looking to the west. all the brake lights as the accident in the number two lane there of right approaching there at westbound 58037 slowing down your time. grantline road to 680, down to 37 miles per hour. folks heading out of livermore down to 680 down to 32 miles per hour on highway 84. mass transit for now, everything on schedule from bart, muni, vta at our close to being on time this monday morning, back to you. >> thanks rob. sigh of relief for bay area drivers in a milestone for the ongoing bart to san jose

project. after more than a year, warren avenue in fremont will reopen this morning. commuters can use it as an alternative to mission boulevard to get between 880 and 680. >> "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang live along warren avenue this morning, drivers and businesses happy about the road being each this morning. >> reporter: that's right, good morning, scott and laura. you know warren and catto finally open. . connects warm springs and fremont boulevard to places like restaurants on the other side. business owners definitely happy about the reopening. you can see the cones set for two of the lanes, one in each direction, there was a soft opening saturday night and how the road goes underneath whafgs existing the tracks and future bart tracks. so for many people, 14 months could not have gone by sooner. in june of last year, the shut down happened so crews could build a grade separation between warren avenue and the exists

railroad. one person notion all the drivers, one other person incredibly happy about the reopening is the owner of the mark. the closure and the build up traffic hurt business. driving # 00 down to 20. >> that would be great because so much of my business comes from that side of the freeway. >> there's a lot of light at the end of the tunnel, we know it's a bart train light coming as it comes down from the fremont station to the warm springs station. >> reporter: and they are set to also be a new pedestrian sidewalk and striped bike lanes here. bicyclists and pedestrians can avoid both the bart planes. this is of course part of the project set to build a 16 mile extension of bart from south fremont. the warm spring bart station is slated to open at the end of next year. good progress, and what the progress means not just for drivers in the area, but for anyone hoping to hop on to a

"today in the bay's" bob redell live this morning. bob, you just got new numbers from police in missouri. >> reporter: good morning, scott, now that the sun is up, law enforcement is getting a better idea of just how bad the violence was last night in ferguson, missouri. there's the numbers, 12 stores looted, one burned and destr destroyed. you can see it right there. 32 arrests for looting. by looking at video, there was a large police presence. we didn't know how significant it was until this morning. they brought in 300 officers from 19 different jurisdictions to try to keep the peace.

winds reached up to 150 feet. the ships pumps couldn't keep up. hurricane julio expected to weaken as it continues to move north. forecasters predict nothing more than a high surf advisory. in the meantime, tropical storm iselle theft its mark on hawaii. this is a normally calm river. turned into a raging waters after the storm dumped more than 11 inches of rain. the storm toppled trees, power lines, and just pounded that island on friday. utility crews, working to clear roadways of debris and just tried to restore powers. hundreds spent the night in hurricane shelters. fortunately there were no reports of any injuries. this is the second tropical storm on record to hit the big island of hawaii. >> hopefully christina loren is having a much calmer honeymoon on hawaii. >> i would think so. >> mike too. you're filling in for both of them. >> they can finally enjoy

during the day as the moisture continues to rotate in from the southeast. around an area of low pressure which is going to track inland later tonight and that's when the slight chance of showers for the north bay or maybe the diablo range. sea breeze turns stronger. we're going to see cooler temperatures, at least tuesday and wednesday. the numbers rebound again as we head towards the second half of the week. temperatures around the bay area should climb into the low to mid-80s around san jose. upper 80s around saratoga. upper 60s today, low 70s around oakland, pleasanton, a around 88. and as you jump ahead and give you a view of next weekend, it's monday. here's something to look forward to. temperatures will begin climb into the low 90s inland for most places. next weekend, that's when the temperatures are going to climb up into the low 90s around the tri-valley and 88 degrees on sunday. slight cool down for the second half of next weekend. now your morning commute getting more conflicted here in the south bay. we have 680 southbound at king
