mist and drizzle at times this morning. more coming up in just a few minutes, scott. >> thank you much. we'll have a back to school kovrng all morning long, and if you're on social media, you can share certainly your thoughts about robin williams as well. we would like to hear about back to school as well on that. well this morning, the outpouring of grief certainly continues as we do remember the life of robin williams. today fans are paying tribute to the comedian leaving flowers at his home in tiburon and at his star on the hollywood walk of fame. many comedy clubs are changing their marquees as a tribute to williams's incredible talent. >> now morning we're going in depth top remember the man who touched so many lives. we begin with stephanie chuang, she joins us in william's tiburon neighborhood, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, scott and laura. we're expecting in just a few hours to learn more from the marin county sheriff's department on the investigation into the death. we are standing in front of his home that he shared with his

wife. the only signs of activity so far, someone who appears to be a security guard inside the house. and the pile of flowers, candles, cards left mostly by people yesterday, neighbors and fans here at the gate of the house where paramedics found the 63-year-old actor and comedian not breathing yesterday afternoon. the coroner's office preliminary investigation determined this was a suicide by asphyxia or suffocation. williams did struggle with alcoholism and cocaine addiction. but was sober for two decades. he relapsed in 2006 and went into rehab. it was just last month whp williams returning to rehab, but indicated it was not because he relapsed, rather to focus on his continued commitment to sobriety. williams also sumped severe depression which his publicist said williams was battling most recently. the actor shot to fame quickly when he was 26 years old. this is the cover of time magazine in 1979 after he took on the role of the lovable alien

in mork and mindy. some from the south bay paid their respects early this morning. >> i feel like, you know, someone who means that much to you, it almost feels like they're eternal, you never really think of them dying or, you know, having there be a world without them in it. >> reporter: and of course the impact on family, unimaginable. william's daughter zelda ray williams posted about her father now being in the stars saying, i love you, i'll miss you, and i'll try to keep looking up. back here live, some of these flowers left behind by neighbors, nbc bay area did speak with some people who talked about the simple plent ris including one -- pleasantries who recounted exchanging smiles with williams at a local grocery store. some people latching on to the small moments here. the sheriff's department will hold a press conference at 11:00 this morning. we will be there, have live

movie that was. good morning to you, scott and laura. here on the front stoop of the so-called "mrs. doubtfire" house. you can see people leaving mementos. this is one of two spots not city where people have been leaving. you have this spot right here made famous on the silver screen from that 1993 comedy hit which in which williams played a divorced father who dresses as a woman. he wants to be a nanny to be closer to his kids. great film if you haven't seen it. second spot where mourners are remembering williams here in the city is this former home in sea cliff. now this house on el camino del mar was a popular destination for children on halloween. the comedian was known for being generous with trick or treaters. handing out large candy bars instead of the bite size things that everyone else does seems to hand out. and here in the city we also caught up with entertainment journalist torres who wrote about williams in his early

years. knew him for several years after that. never forget how as an actor and comedian, he was always really on. >> robin had seemed like always looking for the next bit to throw at you. which is marvelous, as evidence by his performances on late night television. >> i remember when he was playing there. at the cafe. and so i remember from way back then, then i thought how proud i was that like, you know, this local comedian was, you know, a big star. >> reporter: williams not only known for his comedic ability on stage, he started many, many -- starred in many movies including "good morning vietnam," "goodwill hunting," in the 1990s. there are too many to list. when you take into account all of his films. they reportedly grossed over $5 billion worldwide. that gives you a sense of just how successful he was and

there. let's check the forecast with christina loren, no, clips in a loren is off i should -- christina slorn off i should say -- loren is off i should say. >> they're in hawaii right now. cool, not quite hawaii for bay area temperatures right now. low 60s currently around san francisco. and you sea the low clouds around the planes. patchy low clouds into the south bay right now. 58 degrees in the north bay. you notice here on the view, the red flag warnings have been dropped for the bay area as the lightning producing opportunities for the bay area have moved on. out towards the sierra, that's where the warning will continue. that could crank audiotape low clouds deepen up the marine layer just enough to ring out mist and drizzle at times. ian around the inner bay, drizzle over the next couple of mornings as we see wind pickling up within that's going to keep temperatures fairly cool. a bit breezy at times too. 78 degrees in san jose. 80s around saratoga and morgan hills. to the north bay, highs in the

mid-70s today around santa rosa and up towards san rafael and numbers in the low 80s for the tri-valley and there'll be a two-day cool down and high pressure will try to push those temperatures up around some valleys. at least out toward the tri-valley, maybe down towards saratoga. 90 by saturday. we did have an accident there at the toll plaza. number three lane that's causing flowing. we have the earlier issue in the island which was clear. now down towards folsom street, accident there too. real slow down there across the bay bridge this morning. and there is a view at bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights on, traffic slowing down early here on this tuesday morning. tri-valley, 580 was a mess earlier on. two accidents, those have been cleared, you're seeing the slowing. pockets of slowing from santa rita road. slowing there westbound on 580 this morning. and there's a ground level view as you move through dub learn right now.

here are today's top stories, memorials all over the country including of course here in the bay area growing as fans gather to remember the life of robin williams. williams found dead inside his tiburon home yesterday from an apparent suicide. we will learn more about the circumstances surrounding his death later this morning. today reverend al sharpton will pay a visit to a family of an unarmed african american family whose son was shot by a police officer. a crowd of people protesting the death of michael brown. brown was shot and killed by police over the weekend. a wild fire burning near the oregon-california border nearly killed three firefighters. they got trapped yesterday. as wind shifted. the three deployed their emergency fire shelters and survived with no serious injuries. 6:14, the city of san jose takes major league baseball to court today in another attempt to bring the oakland a's south. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us now.

kris, this is a crucial day in the ongoing saga. >> reporter: yeah, inside baseball. that would be a good description of the court proceeding that's happening today to continue with the sports analogies, though a different sport, legal experts essentially say this could be san jose's hail mary asking a federal appeal's court to overturn the federal judge's decision. that came in october which the judge rule sthad retiring commissioner bud selig did not violate anti-trust laws by barring the move to san jose over what it considers the giant easter tomorrow rights over the south bay. in case you haven't been following the case. lou wolfe wants a new stadium, mlb says the a's can't move south bay the south bay is giant east territory. attorneys for the city of san jose say those rules are outdated and they're going to make the arguments again this morning. we'll talk about with them at -- talk with them at 9:30 as they head to court. some folks think it is going to end up before the supreme court,

and if it does, what happens in this case, the appeal's court could impact the highest court's decision. mlb still confident in their position though in prior court appearances saying mlb, that the supreme court consistently declined to narrow or eliminate anti-trust kpemss for the business of baseball. coming up in the next half hour, we'll hear from the attorney representing the city of san jose and what he's saying about what happened between mlb and san jose. laura. >> one to certainly watch, thanks a lot, kris. google is teaming up with mountain view to run errands easier and greener too. the tech giant in mountain view will provide a free community shuttle service that will take people shopping or to appointments, just to local parks. the program will use a 16 seat electric bus that'll run on the holidays too. it's not supposed to take people to work or school, just think of it as a giant car pool for running errands. foormer google manager is

heading up a team of it tech experts tasked of giving federal webs makeovers. he left google to help improve healthcare.gov. now that the site is working properly, the government wants the same team to make over other federal websites. trying to make it more up to date and user friendly. officials say the team's goal is to rethink the people way people interact with the federal government. 6:17, let's take you live outside the downtown san jose. and reminder that it is back to school, be careful out there. >> looks good, we have misty skies and interesting changes actually in the weather things are cooling down today. and of the interesting thing ha that we're seeing here is on the satellite view, this looks like october. you're seeing a weather system approaching the coast. meantime, the potential for lightning-sparked fires in the bay area and the red flag warning that went up yesterday

and overnight has been allowed to expire as the thunderstorms now have moved off to the sierra. this is the system i'm talking about here. approaching the coast. that is going to enhance the marine layer which as of this morning, about 3,000 feet thick which has no trouble bringing the cooler air inland. if you look closer, low clouds throughout from now through wednesday morning and at times, drizzle or even brief light rain along the coastline is possible and that drizzle too could make its way inland around the rest of the bay area, at least the next couple of mornings, and breezy conditions this afternoon will help to keep temperatures running a little bit cooler. and you can see here for today into tomorrow, cooler air, deep marine layer. that's going to reverse itself come thursday as high pressure come presses that marine layer and that will lead to the warm-up at the bottom of the screen. the seven day forecast showing a slight rise in temperatures. today mid-60s for san francisco. mid-70s around san rafael and low 80s around the tri-valley today. should see upper 80s to near # 0 by thursday and friday. tough commute this morning along

the bay bridge. we have an accident here getting into san francisco, a disabled vehicle there westbound. that is causing issues getting into san francisco and the bay bridge toll plaza too. the metering lights were on, and we had an accident in the number three lane and another view looking toward the bay bridge. you can see it looks like the traffic volume and speeds picking up for that disabled vehicle at fremont street. looks like it's not causing any stacking up of the traffic there westbound across the bridge this morning as we check the tri-valley commute. that's been a tough one, altamont pass, two accidents earlier this morning which slowed things down extra early. the slowing continues down to livermore and in patches. looks like there's a new accident coming out of the altamont pass. latest on that for you coming up. and the view from 580 as the volumes increase. trachk volumes heading towards hacienda. travel times beginning to drop off as you'd expect this time of morning. average speed down to 31 miles per hour and that highway 84

down to the road from livermore down to 24 miles per hour for you this morning. meantime, that's the good news we have for you. mass transit still on time and on schedule across the board as good alternates for you on this tuesday morning, back to you. >> thanks so much. 6:20 right now. bad driver's end up in traffic school, but now there's a school for water wasters. the santa cruz water department is giving people who use too much water a choice to pay up or go to class. attendees learned where water comes from, how to read a meter, and get a reminder about the drought. if they pass that class, the fines are forgiven. 30 people in last night's class had $24,000 in fines dropped. >> didn't bother me time wise. it was, it was not wasted time. >> stiff santa cruz is cutting use by 25% through mandatory water rationing. they hope to conserve enough water so there will be enough for next year if the drought continues. well certain water wasting practices could be illegal in the south bay, and the east bay

municipal district says it'll cut off your water if you don't comply. the utility district will meet today top talk about the usual rules. don't let water run on the sidewalks or water lawns more than twice a week. homeowners could also wash their cars only with shut off nozzles. people in the district have been asked to do the things voluntarily, but if they change the rule today and homeowners don't comply. then the district could restrict your water. utility officials in san francisco are considering charging people who waste water. at a meeting this afternoon, the city's public utilities commission will talk about raising rates for customers who use too much water. they mostly be going after customers who use most of the water outdoors like schools, golf courses, condo, complexes, customers in the city have also been asked to cut back their outside watering by 10%. under the proposal, customers will be charged double if they do not conserve. 6:21, still ahead "today in

new video of an intense fire fight in eastern ukraine. ukrainian volunteers battling pro-russian separatists near the video taken sunday shows ukrainians firing mortar shells at rebels from a field of sunflowers. the photographer who took the video said six fighters were killed and more than ten were hurt. ukraine refused to let a convoy of humanitarian aid into the country today. russian television reported the trucks were filled with much needed supplies in operating with the international committee of the red cross. but a ukrainian security spokeswoman says the convoy is not certified by the international committee and the red cross has no idea what the convoy is carrying. spanish missionary priest who contracted ebola in liberia died. he is the first european

affected with ebola. he was taken to a spanish hospital where he died this morning. spain's health ministry says it obtained a dose of the experimental drug used to treat the two american ebola patients but would not confirm that the priest received that dose before he died. the son of one the american missionaries talked to nbc's matt lawrie about the first time he saw his mother being carried in on a stretcher. >> it was hard. i mean we were hat, we were at our hotel watching, waiting for her to arrive. to see her wheeled out of the ambulance and in really, i was on the floor sobbing. i mean it was an emotionally wrenching moment. >> writebol was flown to atlanta last week. she and another missionary were transferred to an isolation unit at emery university. the two became ill while working with ebola patients. their conditions are said to be

"today in the bay's" richard jordan has the latest live from washington, richard. >> reporter: hi scott, good morning, earlier today, secretary of state john kerry said it is time for iraq's new government to gain the confidence of its citizens. it looks like things are moving in that direction, but it will be a long, hard fight. iraqi christians rescued from certain death, but political turmoil continues to fuel isis terrorists bent on eliminating the religious minority. iraqi prime minister al maliki refuses to step aside, even though the country's new president named a replacement. >> the new iraqi leadership has a very difficult job. it has to regain the confidence of its citizens but telling them inclusively, but also by taking steps to demonstrate their resolve. >> reporter: thousands of christians are still on the mountain, starving and terrified. >> they will kill us. and our men, they will slaughter

transamerica pyramid. you see clouds hovering. let's check the forecast, with meteorologist rob mayeda. for san francisco, it'll keep the light jacket with you throughout the day as we have strong on shore wind, low clouds have come back into the picture for the coast and parts of the bay area, and could see driz until a few areas too. so, one thing that's interesting is the wind have picked up out of the south this morning, if you're hearing extra noise on the north side of san jose, it's because the flights out of san jose international airport. they are taking off to the south this morning if the wind's out of the south this morning, moving through the santa clara valley. right now wind on shore, fairfield of livermore, they will turn stronger. courtesy of a weather system here that is on the approach, pretty impressive one by august standards. this. satellite to be honest looks a little bit more like you'd expect to see in october. you see the systems dropping in from the gulf of alaska. that will probably give enough lift to the low clouds at the marine layer that's 3,000 feet thick. that'll give us the drizzle and miss the times or brief light

rain for parts of the coast and this is going to be the story for the next couple of days. reinforcing that ocean air-conditioning that's going to keep our temperatures running a little bit cooler for the next couple of afternoons. today in san jose near 78 degrees, 65 in san francisco, palo alto about 78 degrees. you'll notice for the south bay and san francisco, a subtle warming trend, not a whole lot, but a bit warmer toward thursday and friday. we'll see bigger changes will be your microclimate forecast for the north bay valleys and the trey valley. today santa rosa, 80s around pleasanton. the temperature change here, especially out towards livermore and pleasanton upper 80s to low 90s as you approach the weekend at its high pressure strengthening and squaurk down the marine layer out to the coast. this is the warm-up we'll see friday into saturday, then turning a little bit cooler as we head towards next sunday. morning commute on the bay bridge has been tough. we had an earlier accident near the island. that was cleared, fremont accident has cleared.

you see the traffic times now starting to improve, but that was at fremont on westbound 80 there coming off the bay bridge into san francisco. and you can see a view around the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are on. earlier accident number three lane. that was cleared, starting to look like a typical tuesday morning commute there. around the tri-valley, we've had issues around the altamont pass this morning. vasco road, crash westbound 580 that's been cleared. look at the orange, almost stretching all the way from right around altamont through downtown livermore now approaching pleasanton. the travel times slowing down. not bad from dublin as the approach to 580, 680 interchange. down to 33 miles per hour, average speeds from grantline road to 680 and 24 mile per hour speeds from livermore on 84 as you head south. still a good alternate this morning. mass transit, all systems running on schedule at this hour, back to you. all right rob. it's 6:35, let's check your markets, dow industrial down seven points.

coastal hilltops next couple of mornings, especially, could have drizzle or brief light showers, or light rain along the coast and cool temperatures here. next couple of days as we see the highs drop mostly into the 70s to low 80s inland. san jose, 78 degrees, mid-80s closer to morgan hill. pacifica, # 5 degrees -- 65 degrees. mainly in the mid-70s from san rafael to napa. highs around pleasanton and livermore approaching 80 this afternoon. so fairly cool out there for the afternoon, but then notice what happens as we head towards the weekend and the changes you see there at the bottom of the screen, seven day forecast for the start of the weekend, we'll put our temperatures back up closer to 90 around the tri-valley then turning cooler as we head towards sunday. so cooler changing for the next few days and things will warm up for the second half of the week. quick check of traffic shows you the bay bridge commute has been fairly slow. another issue here, southbound 60 at geer ri near monument, we have a crash in the middle lane involving three to four cars. that is causing issues around

the tri-valley. excuse me, walnut creek area. south this morning, we are seeing significant slowing. now speaking of the tri-valley, 580, the east bay commute has been tough this morning, but accident westbound 580 which is taking a slow commute and making it even slower, 32 mile per hour average speed time from grantline road to 680 and highway 84 speed time 46 miles per hour right now as you head out from livermore down to 680. 580 in dublin. slowing as you approach hacienda and the 580, 680 interchange. 880 at 98th street. car here northbound on the side of the road in the ditch, they have that picked up. traffic slowing past the scene there at 98th street. final stop takes us to the bay bridge toll plaza showing with the -- slowing with the metering rights on. mass transit again a good alternative this morning, everything running on schedule for you on this tuesday, back to you.

well he made us laugh and cry for 40 years, and this morning, people across the world still grieving for robin williams. today fans paid tribute to the comedian leaving flowers at his home in tiburon and on a star on the hollywood walk of fame. many comedy clubs are changing their marquee as a tribute to the william's incredible talent. >> this morning we're going in depth top remember the man who touched so many lives. and we begin with "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang who joins us live in william's tiburon neighborhood, good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, laura and scott. tough for so many and some trying to come here to pay their respects. although there's been at least one patrol car from the marin county sheriff's office trying to make sure just the residents come in to this neighborhood. you do see that some people have been able to stop by to leave these flowers, candles, and the cards. the fans most recent common drop off flowers were from the south bay. there was a since of urge

sympathy saying good-bye to william's here at his tiburon house. >> i really thought that something that i had to do. you know, just for closure. and i never had the chance to thank him personally, hopefully this will be a little bit of a way to you know thank him for what he did for me. >> reporter: now paramedics found the 63-year-old actor and comedian not breathing in this house yesterday afternoon. the coroner's office preliminary investigation determines this was a suicide by asphyxia or suffocation. williams did struggle with alcoholism as well as cocaine addiction, but was sober for two decades. except for one relapse and rehab stint in 2006. it was just last month when he returned to rehab, but said it was not because he relapsed, rather to the cement his recovery. williams also suffered severe depression which his publicist said he will be battling most recently. following william's death, his wife released a statement in part saying, as he is remembered, it is our hope the
