from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." and a good tuesday morning, 4:30, bright and early, i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to, let's check the forecast first. >> good morning to both of you, sam, laura, everybody at home. what a spectacular calm of days here. look at your highs for today. 76 degrees. on the peninsula, 73 for the east shore, and wine country, mid-80s typically, we're forecasting the upper 70s for today. all good things must come to an end. changes coming your way.

first let's check your drive, good morning to mike inouye. i think that phrase is uttered bring kids all around the school year and next couple weeks. now through san leandro, road crew, same thing as you approach downtown northbound around 29th, but nothing unusual. we'll show you the south bay as well. san jose, northbound 101, company, but no big surprises northbound. look at that silhouette up ahead and no problems through the interchange. one thing different, we have 880 at steven's creek, not a big overnight construction crew there right now. still 280 through 880 right through. the usual suspects around the bay. typical flow will track further east coming up. this morning, san jose police are on the lookout for two drivers wanted for two hit-and-run charges. less than 24 hours earlier,

someone crossing center was hit and killed at balfour drive. stephanie chuang joins us live with what witnesses are telling us this morning. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: hey laura, good morning, yeah happening close to one another. the one sunday night two nights ago was down this block here at the end of the shopping plaza. last night here, you can see some of the remnants of the flairs that were set up here on the street. you have the first hit-and-run sunday night leaving one man dad and last night one man fighting for his life. his father was on scene, distraught as one police officer helped him to sit down. this hit-and-run happened around 8:15 last night in front of the a popular shopping plaza here with many vietnamese businesses. witnesses rushed to call 911. one says it appeared the driver involved was going to stop. >> big bounce, i turn over, saw

a guy flying over there, and i saw the guy stop with the white car, after that, he took off. >> reporter: this is again the second hit-and-run on this stretch of center road. just before 10:00 sunday night, police say a black sedan hit 51-year-old man of san jose. walking across the street. they believe he may have been on his bicycle when died at the hospital the next morning. his family tells nbc bay area he had just finished visiting them and was heading home when it happened. so very vague descriptions, but investigators searched this area for possible surveillance footage to help in their investigation. now, coming up in our next hit in about half an hour. what neighbors say must be done to make this stretch of road safer. live in san jose, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, stephanie. we now have breaking news. the marin didn't sheriff's department is investigating reports of a small plane crash near navado.

bob redell joins us on the phone now. >> reporter: good morning, we just got confirmation that they received a phone call from an faa about a missing single engine aircraft. at the same time they are on the scene of a wild fire. the sheriff's office is trying to figure out whether that wild fire and the possible missing aircraft are related. otherwise, did the aircraft cause that fire? they have not been able to find the aircraft yet. they are still on the scene of the fire. the sun is not up yet making it difficult to do a search for aircraft. especially if a train in this area, we -- terrain, which we expect would make it difficult to find. we're in en route, we'll have more information coming up within the next hour. reporting live here on the route to marin county, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks so much, bob. developing overnight in

ferguson, missouri, signs of progress potentially amidst more violence. tear gas canisters still tore through the air, burning bottles of liquor exploded as protesters and police squared you have again. among the hectic prouds, peace keepers emerged and stood between protesters and police, both on the verge of boiling over. >> please back up, back it up. >> don't give them a reason, back up. don't give them a reason, stop throwing stuff. do not give them a reason, back up. >> you can hear them saying do not give them a reason. at least 31 people were arrested including a number of people from new york and california. two protesters were shot by other protesters, but we're told should be okay. officials lifted a midnight curfew but ask that peaceful protesters only take to the street during the day so the krms can not hide amongst them. >> i'm going to tell you, we're going to solve this, we're going

to have to do it together and i am foot in going to let the criminals that have come out here from across this country or live in this community to define this neighborhood. >> late night news conference, captain ron johnson warned the media journalists are getting too close. you can see a broadcaster getting malox poured on his face because of the tear gas. >> graphic pictures there. it's 4:36 right now, police are worried a bay area marshal arts -- martial arts teacher molested a student. he is an instructor at a martial arts studio in palo alto. a female student says last year when she was 17, he put his arms around her, grabbed her face and tried to kiss her. she managed to get away, but

police are looking for more possible victims. it's unclear why the woman waited to so long to go to police. today, san jose city council members will likely put the finishing touches on a plan to turn hotels into homes. for people who don't have anywhere to live. the council approved the planning commission's ideas two weeks ago. under the plan, nonprofits could get multiyear leases on hotel rooms which could then temporarily be used by the city's homeless population. supporters say the plan could provide people with the transitional housing they need to get back on their feet. happening now, hundreds of people out of their homes this morning, pushed out by flames burning near yosemite national park. the junction fire started yesterday has already burned more than 1200 acres of grass and trees. at one point, 13,000 homes were in the line of the fire, that's been reduced to 500 that the hour. a number of hotels in the town of oakhearse, about 16 miles

away have been evacuate. right now firefighters are still trying to stop that fire from spreading. san jose city council is likely days away from declaring a city wide water shortage, but the city does not plan is to hire quote kun quote water cops or hand out fines. this according to the mercury knew. the council is instead considering a new set of rules forcing people to conserve. if the rules are passed, it would be illegal to water outside between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. every single day. also illegal to water so much that water leaks on to sidewalks or streets. and you would not be allowed to wash down driveways or sidewalks. you'd have to use a hose with a shut off nozzle to wash your car. the rules would apply to everybody in san jose regardless of their water providers. city is not hiring anyone to make sure the rules are followed, santa clara county water district has those so-called water cops who only have the power to inform, but not dole out fines.

breaking news now to a story we jux mentioned, marin county sheriff's department is in the process of investigating reports of a small plane crash near novato. investigators got a call from the faa this morning about a possible missing plane. now they have since set up an incident command post at petaluma point, reyes road, and hick's valley. they are searching the area to see if there's any wreckage. this is an image of the area they are combing right now. meanwhile firefighters are bat american league small grass fire nearby. think it may be related to

reports of the downed plane. more information from bob redell who is headed to the scene. we learned recently from the faa, there was a pilot trying to get from oregon to san carlos. couldn't make it, was supposed to divert to nasfield and was not anyone to do that. as soon as we have more information, we'll bring it to you. people living in one sunnyville neighborhood say they are considering buys surveillance cameras and other types of home protections after a rash of vandalism. latest happened along the small stretch of santa rosa street near the intersection of 101 and lawrence expressway. investigators say someone splattered at least a dozen cars with white latex paint. fences were also hilt. neighbors say they've been dealing with this type of thing all year as well as tires getting slashed and cars getting keyed. we're learning new shocking allegations against a bay area slaughter house. this morning, two coowners and two employees are facing a

laundry list of charges accused of tricking federal inspectors in to thinking sick cows were healthy. federal court documents claim the accused knowingly processed and distributed flaet cows that had cancer. >> in this instance, we're learning about workers who were slopping out the heads of unhealthy cows, coys suffering from eye cancer with the heads of healthy cows in order to put profit ahead of the interest of animals and people. >> the court documents show that employees were told to carve u.s. dpa con -- usda condemn ed carcasses. in february, the usda recalled eight million pounds of tainted meat linked to the slaughter house. for a look at the markets and the news before the bell, we turn to hampton pierson live at the washington d. krmt, bureau, good morning, hampton. >> good morning, sam. we're going to start with the

futures. they are in fact higher after stocks rallied on monday with the nasdaq closing at a 14 year high. investors reacting to uneasing in geopolitical tensions, and a report also showing u.s. home builders are more confident at the state of housing. we do get more data today on housing as well as consumer price inflation and earnings from home depot. the dow on monday rising 175 points to close 17838, the nasdaq up 43 points to that 14 year record cloefs 4508. meanwhile the pricing war is heating up in the wireless world. sprint unleashing a pricing plan and saying good-bye or it its foremanly or friends and family plan. they are offering customers up to 20 gigabytes of data and ten lines for 100 dollars and offering data offering. they are betting the new prices will revive the company which has been hampered by an

pacific northwest where they have been unseasonably warm. for us, onshore flow. the ocean air transported all the way inland. gorgeous weather for the first part of the week then high pressure comes back and it pulls up the subtropical moisture. we have a couple of tropical systems that's going to feed into it. that will really kick in friday and saturday as that moist air moves over the bay area. couple dry days, beautiful weather, then we're only going to beboost taup couple of degrees. 80 degrees for the south bay today. 73 in the east shore area, comfortable conditions for us as we get into the next couple days, like i said, make those outdoor plans and thursday into friday, temperatures creep up just a touch, so does that humidity. it's going to feel more like 87 to 90 degrees here in the south bay. as we get into sunday, that dry heat returns and overall, we hit that sweet stride not too hot, no extreeps, and no triple digits in sight. back to you two.

>> bearer of good news, thank you very much, christina. police in southern california will release more information this morning about two teens caught plotting a school shooting. investigators say they stopped the plan in its tracks. the two south pasadena high school students were arrested yesterday after school authorities noticed suspicious behavior. the students reportedly planned to shoot three teachers and kill as many students as possible. they had not gotten their hands on weapons, but investigators say the teens were researching guns and bombs online. we all know that a major earthquake could happen in california at any time, but are we prepared? >> group of bay area kids making sure they and their neighbors are ready. 15-year-old terisa got a challenge from her father. he challenged her to organize the earthquake major team. she got together with her brother and two friends. >> six months back we collected data from all of our neighbors

update now to breaking news. marin county sheriff's department is investigating reports of a small plane crash near-and-a-half toe. we just learned the pilot of a single engine plane was flying from brookings, oregon, trying to make it to san carlos when it reported engine trouble at 9:30 last night. he tried to make it na field but -- nass field. they are searching the area to see if there's any wreckage. "today in the bay's" bob redell is also on his way to the scene, he'll have an update as soon as he arrives. in the football world this morning, we are waiting to hear if the nfl will fine johnny football, aka johnny manziel. >> cameras caught the brown's quarterback flipping the bird to washington's bench during the third quarter last night. he called the moment a lapse of judgment and suggested his action was brought on by
