good tuesday morning, thanks for joining us, i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. we have an update to breaking news. authorities in marin county believe they have found the wreckage of a missing plane this morning. "today in the bay's" bob redell just got to the scene. bob, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well just to give you a lay of the land, west marin, this is north of novato, laura, west the petaluma. at the site of this wild fire, the marin county sheriff's department says they have found some wreckage. now whether or not it's related to this aircraft that went missing last night, they have not been able to confirm that. but they have found reckage, what happened is around 9:30 last night, the faa called the marin county sheriff's department to let them know they received an emergency call from a pilot of a beach craft aircraft. this is a small aircraft that was flying from oregon to san carlos, california, on the peninsula. the plane reporting they were having engine trouble. shortly after that emergency

call, hate it lost radar contact with the aircraft. the pilot indicated he was going to try to land at nas field. authorities checked nas field, no sight of the aircraft, then heard about the filed wire that they were fighting overnight. as i mentioned, they have found wreckage. the question is is that the aircraft that's been missing. they have not confirmed that. the faa believes that that person, the pilot, was the only person on board. reporting live here in west marin, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> checking back in with bob again very soon. meantime developing overnight in ferguson, missouri, signs of progress potentially amidst more violence. tear gas canisters tore through the air and burning bottles of liquor exploded on the streets of the small suburb as protesters and police squared off again. but among the hectic crowds, peace keepers emerged and stood between protesters and police. both on the verge of boiling over. >> back it up.

his face to ease the stinging and burning from being exposed to tear gas. eric holder is headed to ferguson to meets with local leaders this week coming up in the next half hour. we have just learned this morning, police investigating two separate hit-and-run crashes in the same san jose neighborhood. we've just learned that one of the crashes is actually turned deadly. it all happened last night when a car crossed center road in balfour drive, another pedestrian was hit just a few blocks away. "today in the bay" stephanie chuang joins us live, stephive in, neighbors think more need to be done to protect pedestrians. >> reporter: that's right, good morning, laura. first of all, police are trying to confirm right now the whether the second victim, what condition he is in. we do know that he is in critical condition and was fighting for his life. that accident happening just about three to 400 feet down here on center road.

sunday night's crash happened here. the speed limit is 45 miles an hour. people saying there's vehicle traffic, but a lot of foot traffic with that fog you see behind there, a lot of busy shops and businesses on the other side. that was around 8:15 last night. an emotional scene as the father of the victim. very distraught walked by a police officer who was trying to help him sit down. witnesses rushed to call 911. we spoke with one of them, a man who says he saw both crashes, and he says the city must really step in to enhance safety measures on this popular stretch of road. >> the thing is since the sometime they built this pedestrian crossing over there, there's more accidents here. they should be making a signal light for so people can stop. when people are driving, they can't see anybody. >> reporter: sunday night a black or dark colored sedan hit

a person. he was crossing the road at center. and possibly was on his bike. he died the next morning. his family telling nbc bay area he just finished visiting them and was heading home when it happened. and that's what we talk about in our next live report at end of the hour. in a little bit more than 30 minutes, you see the impact on the family members. some had a lot to say. we will hear from them coming up again in the next hit. live in san jose, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. pair of mosquito foggings are slated for the bay area this evening as officials try to prevent the spread of the west nile virus. mosquito and vector control will be fogging in the shaded area on your screen starting at 8:00. tonight the fogging area is right next to delasalle high school and the may not yans yard. it is expected to last several hours. in the south bay, fog willing begin at 11:00 tonight in the area highlighted on your screen. mostly around sunnyvale.

fogs will last until about 2:00 tomorrow morning. this latest round of fogging comes just after santa clara county health officials announced five cases of people infecteded with west nile virus. we've learned a uc berkeley freshman has been diagnosed with that same virus. it is 6:07 now, time to check the forecast. let's check it now but meteorologist christina loren, nice day ahead. >> not too much to complain about. maybe fog, christina? >> not in the bay area. >> let's get back to the mosquito fogs because here in santa clara county actually it is a real issue. if you are headed outdoors and you are concerned about west nile, you want to keep in mind, mosquitos like to come out at dusk and dawn. all right. we are about to hit a beautiful start to the day. sunrise, 6:27, gorgeous conditions for today. and also if you're going to be out and about, another way to keep the mosquitos at bay is

other. the latest crash occurred last night on center road and ooldam. they are countrily considered life threatening. britt a is recalling more than 242 children's water bottles. britta has received 35 reports of broken or cracked lids, but no injuries. new morning, health officials are reiterating their warningings to stay away from some afternoon condition currents as the number of people killed by the ebola virus continues to rise. liberia, nigeria, and sierra leone risen to more than 1200 people in the regions. there have been more than 2200 reported cases of ebola to this point. some sbierp villages have been quarantined. others are limiting access to

food. remains from flight 17 are being returned to their families. malaysian's defense minister says the remains of 16 people, floub back to the country. flight 17 was on its way from amsterdam to kuala lumpur last month when it was shot down over an area of eastern ukraine controlled by pro-russian separatists. victims remains were taken to the netherland for identification. police in southern california will release more information this morning about the two teen caught plotting a school shooting. investigators say they stopped the plan in its tracks, the south pasadena high school students were arrested after authorities noticed suspicious behavior. the students planned to shoot three specific teachers and kill as many students as possible. they did not have weapons, but investigators said the teens were researching guns and bombs online. people near the campus may notice activity there today.

university city of hayward, and the college will be participating in an active shooter drill on campus. the drill will take place in the pioneer heights residential life sfilts on csu east bay's campus. it is expected to start at 1:00 this afternoon. folks living in one sunnyvale neighborhood are considering buying surveillance cameras and other types of home protection after a rash of vandalism. the latest happened early monday morning along a small stretch of santa rosa street. that is near the intersection of 101 and the lawrence expressway. someone splattered at least a dozen cars with white latex paint. fences were also nabbed. neighbors say they've been dealing with this kind of thing all year, like tire rs getting slashed and keys, cars getting keyed up. 6:17, time to check the forecast on this tuesday morning, let's take a peek outside, look at downtown san jose. the sun is up, christina's here, we have a look at the forecast. >> we are right in the thick of august. this could be in some places

muggy, nasty weather. not out here. >> not out here, just to the south, southern california they're getting the triple digit heat, also the humidity. for us, we're going to hold it at bay at least for the next couple of days which means we will be the envy of the nation. we get to take that role quite often here in the bay area. it's nice to wake up with temperatures in the mid-60s in some spots. 61 degrees right now in livermore, oakland, san carlos, and san francisco. meanwhile, couple upper 50s pointing in san martin's direction this morning. cool conditions, and through gilroy, mid240u6 morning. it's nice and brisk. maybe you want to walk your dog this morning, comfortable out there. later on this afternoon, won't be hot when you get home. ocean air trapted inland. right now, it's cooling down the pacific northwest as well. and for us, it's going to keep temperatures just a touch below average as we get into the next

couple of days. then high pressure takes control. starting on thursday, really into friday and saturday, watching for this surge of monsoonal moisture. we might get showers. best chance looks like the higher elevations of the south bay and watching that for late friday into saturday. temperatures today, hard to beat, 76 degrees on the peninsula. that's right. 73 for the east shore, wine country, gorgeous conditions. maybe you haven't had a chance to get up there. we're going to hold on to the weather as we get into your weekend, take a look at this, not a big change coming your way with the exception of that humidity. overall though, temperatures just climbing a couple degrees. we're talking about the 80s extending into saturday and sunday. wine country will be nice. take your pick of summer events across the bay area. we'll that talking about that this weekend, coming up in just a little bit. right now want to get you to work on time, work for the

weekend, man to help you get there, mike inouye. >> what was in the roadway, but no longer an issue. we have one car remaining after the earlier three car crashes. right here the middle of 101 northbound through san jose. just north of 680 approaching the key. some folks still slowing down to see what's going on. slow down on the poach for tully, clearing by the time you hit the camera shot and mckey, no problem. this is what we call a traffic tuesday. a heavier volume usually than the rest of the days for the week. today, looking at a slower build. tri-valley's the same thing, much lighter than yesterday for west 580. south 680, slowing heading down in towards sunol towards highway 84. typical pattern, but lighter volume showing up right now. as the schools come back online, for the next few weeks, we'll see things couldn't to suggest as some folks stay home then get back to work in a typical pattern other here. slowing for 7880 south through hayward, nothing unusual there.

crews also put out a grass fire. they think that may have been the result of the plane crash. live update for you in about 15 minutes. squlnchts 6:30, new this morning, cease-fire in gaza appears to be over. israel's military says less than an hour ago, three rockets were fired out of the gaza strip. israel says the rockets landed in an each field. it come just hours after israel and hamas extended a temporary cease. fire for another day. so peace negotiations could continue. israeli troops remain at the gaza border. hamas previously said violence would erupt again unless progress was made towards a deal. hotels for homeless people. today the san jose city council is expected to approve a plan that would get people off of the streets and into rooms that the city pays for. kris sanchez with thousand move could save the city money. >> reporter: that's right, sam, homeless advocates says there's space in the city and the city seems poised to put it to use.

the city council will vote on whether to change the zoning code to allow people to stay longer than 30 days in existing hotels and motel rooms in certain zones. vouchers from the city which staff says could cost the city a million dollars year. that's not chump change, but homeless advocates it is less than the $3 million they spent on law enforcement, health, and other outreach to homeless people. when we talked with city councilman san ricardo about the plan, last time he said making hotel space is not a temporary solution. >> the idea is to bring in another party who can provide the case management and the other services that are needed to ensure. we have a pathway to success. >> reporter: it is estimated that san jose has a homeless population of more than 3600 people and growing. many of them staying in encampments like this one calmed the jungle on center road near happy hollow park and zoo. there are several others around the city. the plan could help hotels in those zoned areas as well by

providing additional property management and occupies in hotels that have unpaid empty rooms. some hotel owners aren't so sure. thing the plan is house homeless people could hurt their business, but again, the city council looks like it's going to approve the plan that was recommended by the planning commission, sam. >> could be tension thooefr, thank you very much, kris. 6:33, hardly any tension when it come ps to the forecast because we've been quite spoiled. well, usually clear making way for a nice day. we've had a mild august, christina. >> yeah, its been really nice so far. and i don't know that anybody wants it to change. good news for you if you're in that boat. we have more of the same for you today and tomorrow. then we are going to bring back those subtropical clouds, midlevel clouds on the way and the humidity will increase as well. we night get a -- might get a few showers, overall, our pattern has been nice and we're going to hold on to that today and tomorrow and then thursday. that's when we're expecting the

humidity to be noticeable. 61 in san francisco. good morning to you in san jose, 62 degrees. and 59 degrees down in san martin. some really lovely weather this morning. some cool conditions for you from gilroy all the way up through san martin and santa theresa, nice start. i want to show you the bay area when it comes to the low clouds, thick many morning up through sonoma county and marin county as well. and you're going to find some really thick low clouds and even fok and drizzle at immediate coast. take it easy there. overall, looking good. you can already see little bit shallower here when it comes to the marine layer over san francisco. the sun is up. san jose shows you full deck of low clouds, that's going to help to keep us nice and cool later on today. probably get by without using your ac if you play your cards right. open up your windows at about 7:00, that's when it peoples comfortable and yeah, we have good to moderate air quality for today. always a good idea to shut the blinds before you leave as well so the direct sunlight doesn't blaze in. 80 degrees for the south bay,

peninsula 76. 73 room temperature for the east shore today, and comfortable conditions persists for one final day before we bring in those changes. i'll show you your future cast in just a moment, but first, i want to get you out the door on time and on a good note. mike can do all three of those things. >> or at least one. take your pick, get three out of this, good for you. over here towards san jose where traffic flows relatively nicely right now. we see the slowing north of 680, 280 where the camera is. we had an earlier crash approaching. this is a good recovery look at your map in fact, in fact this section right here, that's the only spot for real slowing, # 7 and 85 just starting to show speeds come down below 60 miles per hour. that's where the green is turning to yellow. not a big deal. that's a good deal for the traffic tuesday. heavier volume of traffic today. cars stalled and maybe broke down in the roadway. sounds like at least the driver of the car is over off to the shoulder. no lanes reported blocked, still we're going to track the commute

direction where you already see the slowing south approaching 84 again just to see the green turn into yellow. dipping for the tri-valley. again, lighter than it was yesterday. to big surprises for the tri-valley approach over towards the castro valley. south 8 # 0 through -- 880 through the toll plaza. backup of course is here and slowing down the east shore freeway. richmond in the berkeley speeds around the 45 mile per hour range right now. and that's a good deal because they're all flowing smoothly. live look across the san mateo bridge shows you closer to the peninsula, 92 westbound with the taillights. easy drive and dumbarton bridge smooth as well. just like this is. i'll explain since we can't readed it here. closure to 280. extension. we're seeing that bridge work again the 28th through labor day weekend. they're doing the final stages. >> they're trying to warn us early. >> exactly.

the pilot has died it in the small plane crash in marin county. authorities found the wreckage of the plane which disappeared overnight. "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live with the latest, what can you confirm for us at this the point? >> reporter: well good morning to you sam and laura. marin county sheriff's office working conjunction with marin county fire confirmed that they did find the wreck achblt beach craft single engine aircraft along with unfortunately the body of the pilot. the only person believed to be on board in a aircraft. the location is within the middle of a 40 acre fire that has been burning on a remote hillside not too far from our location. in an area called hicks valley. this is north of novato in west marin county. the ntsb is also on its way, should be here in a couple of hours. now the faa tells us that this pilot was heading from brookings, oregon, to san carlos last night, where around 9:30 last night, the pilot radioed air traffic to control saying he

was having engine trouble. he would try to land at nas field. then right after that, his aircraft disappeared from radar. marin county sheriff started a search because of the fog and the inability to fly their own search and rescue aircraft, it took them four hours to locate the wreckage. three of the hours to find the fire, another hour to find the wreckage within the fire. the marin county sheriff's department tells us this morning they've take an look at the wreckage, they believe looks like it exploded on impact. >> again, the plane is in really severe disrepair. it's in bad shape. and obviously at the time of impact, started a fire which created more detriment to the crime scene itself. >> reporter: again, no identity yet as far as who that pilot was, but the belief is that that pilot was the only person on board. again a individual engine beach craft aircraft flying from oregon. final destination was supposed to be in san carlos,

we could get showers by saturday if we see this monsoonal moisture creep far enough to the north. right now it does look like that, ten to 20% chance. i'm not putting any money on 10 to 20% bet. i'm going to let you know what's happen out there and we'll watch that. because i know you want to get outdoors as we get to the weekend. low clouds right now, really tell the weather story of the day. that's where you see the most significant cooling, it's going to take a while to burn off here in sonoma county. temperatures today up in wine country as a result of that early burn off. ending up in the 70s. nice looking day coming your way across the bay area. you'll notice on the seven day forecast, temperatures are really going to stay put. throughout friday, saturday, sunday, we are actually looking toward the monsoonal moisture, maybe a few showers, overall, temperatures in the low 80s. let's check your drive, here's mike inouye. >> all right chris that, we're going to look to the san mateo bridge where we see the low clouds hanging out.

we see westbound moving smoothly across the span, but getting here is an issue. we're talking about a slower drive on the approach, west, around the road, we do have a crash, three vehicles reportedly across three lanes. over to the right you have one, maybe two depending on how close that is to the merge, slower drive from 880 over to the 92 toll plaza, that's the san mateo bridge, dumbarton was moving just as smoothly. easier drive now heading south down there towards the dumbarton bridge if that's a convenient alternate for you. no word, no injuries reported there, but 92 is slowing a lot as you're passing because of that crash. the rest of your peninsula drive once you get there is just fine and smooth drive along the east shore as well. 880 slow through hayward towards union city and fremont. same thing for the tri-valley, look at 580 westbound, the earlier disabled vehicle we told you about hasn't presented a problem. it's in the center divide. northbound routes to the south bay, 101 as well asle 7 do show a slower drive there.

that's building for the south bay, gentle there. and the east shore holding steady. we have another slow down approaching university as well. that's a typical pattern where the metering lights are on. we'll give you a live look outside and show you how things are shaping up where things turn to the red. speeds close to 20 miles per hour at the worst rate here. and the golden gate bridge across the city, from the north bay, and at earlier slowing southbound 101 right around the dispensary area that crashed has cleared from all lanes, back to you. >> thank you, mike. happening right now, hundreds of people are out of their homes this morning, pushed out by flames burning near yosemite national park. the junction fire started yesterday and has taken more than 1200 acres of grass and trees. at one point, 13,000 homes were in the line of that fire. that is now been reduced to 500 at this hour. a number of hotels in the town of oakhearse is about 16 miles from the fire has been evacuated. firefighters are still trying to stop it from spreading.

tear gas and flash grenades in the streets of ferguson. seventh night of clashes in a town ripped aid part by the death of michael brown, an unarmed teenager killed by police. nbc's jay gray jiens us live in ferguson this morning. jay, overnight, 31 people were arrested a including some from california and new york. >> reporter: yeah, absolutely, in fact the police saying that a lot of those that are causing the problems here are not from the ferguson area. look at it, it continues to be a vicious cycle here. with the police and protesters clashing each night. they continue to try and change their strategy, their tactics as far as this is concerned. they've even brought in the national guard, but can't seem to stop the violence at this point. you said 31 people arrested, two people injured by gunfire, shots fired within the crowd. we also know that police were shot at several times last night. they say they were also pelted with bottles and four officers

slightly injured, treated and released. it's a conflict that doesn't seem to be changing, and it's really frustrating, not only officers here, but also many in this community who say they're out to make sure that michael brown is remembered, make sure that their voices are heard as they push for change and open investigation here. and so police are asking, hey, help us police this situation. another thing they've asked us if you can at all possibly make sure your voices are heard during the daylight hours here, it would help because thefl like what they're calling this criminal element is hiding behind the message and the darkness of night here in ferguson each night. so the interesting to see how that plays out as they continue to try and find a way to stop these crime shift every night. >> night after night after night, thanks for the very latest. >> yeah. grand jury could begin hearing evidence as early as tomorrow in the shooting death of michael brown. the grand jury will decide

32 are in danger of collapsing within the next decade unless the port makes repair and completes seismic retrofitting. they estimate the price tag for all of that could reach $87 million. san francisco has had several big plans for piers 30 to 32 including hotels and condos. new arena for the warriors, even a cultural museum. all of those projects have fallen through. the port says it doesn't have money for the repairs right now, so it is still considering options. charity is in santa clara county is taking another step towards helping undocumented children find host families right here. catholic charities of santa clara county will hold information session tonight at their headquarters on zanka road in san jose. they are working on a proposal to bring 50 undocumented children to the dobt give them a place to stay as the federal government processes their immigration status. if you are, this starts at 6:30.
