first, check your drive. here's mike. >> good morning. we turn the camera to a nice, beautiful, sparkling view of the new tower, we'll call it new, it's the newest part of the bridge, smooth drive into and out of the tunnel at treasure island. taillight section heading into san francisco, overnight crash yet to clear from the area. i heard it was sticking into the slow lane but i haven't seen traffic disruption or slowing. talking about the span across between san francisco and the oakland side. smooth drive in breath directions, lower deck out of the city as well north bay, no delays new york problems. crash at hern has cleared. there's your tri-valley trek. speed limit for 580 and 680. 84, usual speed. we'll send it back to you. >> doctors in sacramento will do more tests on a patient who may have been exposed to the ebola

virus. kris sanchez joins us. this is not a confirmed case froms are taking every possible precaution. >> reporter: out of an abundance of caution. we know the patient is in isolation and submitted blood s samples, but we don't know whether it's a man, a woman, or their age or why they may have had contact. the patient is in kaiser permanente and all doctors and nurses coming into contact with that person are using protective gear in case tests come back positive. test results could take several more days. in the meantime the main thing doctors look for is fever. the hospital is not saying whether the patient is showing symptoms of the deadly virus, only the patient may have come into contact with ebola. a doctor unaffiliated with kaiser but who has studied ebola for years said we should remember the virus doesn't spread exactly like the common cold. >> that's the first thing to

know, it's very hard to catch. you have to be in intimate contact with the fluids of a person that has it and is sick with it. >> an infectious disease specialist at kaiser per ma menty released the statement, in order to protect the patient, staff and physicians though infection with the virus is unconfirmed we're taking the actions recommended by the centers for disease control as a precaution. the ebola virus has claimed the lives of 1,200 people worldwide, particularly west africa. but the silver lining in that number, another 1,000 people who were infected or are but still alive. two u.s. aide workers infected in liberia and transported back to the u.s. for treatment. coming up, we'll talk more about their conditions. >> nerves rattled across the country. the ebola virus first discovered in 1976 with two simultaneous outbreaks in sudan

and the congo. the disease takes its name from the river of a village where the virus was first found. this is the 25th outbreak in history, as the world looks for ways to fight back against the disease. u.s. researchers are speeding up human clinical trials for what they hope is a promising, new vaccine. stage one of the trials of the national institutes of health starts earlier than plans the goal to finish by end of november than next year. so it's been expedited. other countries trying to find a solution, too. canada is donating up to 1,000 doses of experimental vaccine to the world health organization in africa. our coverage continues online, posting the latest updates on the possible ebola case in sacramento. nbcbayarea.com, search ebola virus. developing in missouri a grand jury will begin hearing evidence today in the shooting death of michael brown.

in the meantime, people in ferguson are waking up to cleaner streets thanks to a peaceful night of protests. >> get back! everybody back up! >> operation media get back to designated area. >> this is the only conflict in the night. people hid behind the media and threw bottles of water and urine at them. officers tried to separate them from journalists leading to several arrests, including peel who threatened to kill officers. state patrol captain ron johnson explained why it united states important for his officers to wear protective gear, some consider threatening. >> when i got home last night at 3:30 in the morning, my wife was up. lights are on. when i walked in the door i knew i was in trouble. she didn't say hi, she said, why didn't you have your vest on?

when i left today, i got here, the first text i had on my phone is, your promise. a promise means that i'm going to come home. these men and women are going to come home. >> johnson said, aside from that brief melee, officers walked the streets in their normal uniforms. johnson called last night a real turning point and said the older population influenced most younger residents to remain calm. later today protests held in san jose and richmond in solidarity with protesters in support of michael brown. also developing this morning, president obama will make a statement today about the beheading of an american journalist, james foley by isis militants. foley kidnapped in 2012. isis says his killing is retaliation for u.s. air strikes in iraq. >> just an innocent person here and it just makes you wonder what this world is really, really like.

>> in a statement, foley's parents said they have never been prouder of him. they say he gave his life trying to expose the suffering of the syrian people. family asked the militanted to spare the lives of other captured militants saying they have no pull with the u.s. government. isis threatening to kill an american journalist kidnapped near the border about a year ago. new details surrounding the hit-and-run death of a 2-year-old girl in san francisco. the girl's aunt is now under arrest for leaving her niece alone in the crosswalk. 2-year-old my anna gregory killed friday on mission street. officers say the girl's aunt, 25-year-old lorysah gage, walked the toddler halfway across the street against the red light. gage went back to get the girl's twin brother, when she was hit and killed. page is facing felony child endangerment charges. >> a tragic incident, emotional, as you can imagine with the

arrest of the aunt and the passing of her niece and someone's 2-year-old daughter. >> police are still looking for the driver in this incident. surveillance photo shows the car right there. detectives say it's a mid 1990s white four-door sedan, possibly camry, lexus, honda with a dark mismatched bump. >> searchers will scour a central california forest for a santa cruz man not seen for more than a week. authorities say gregory muck left for a hiking trip ten days ago and has not returned. the 46-year-old, who teaches in fremont, was hiking east of fresno when he disappeared. his wife says he's an avid outdoorsman who has made trips to the back country for more than 20 years. happening now, more than 1,000 people evacuated from a small town near yosemite adjusting to being back home. the junction fire is not as big as crews once thought.

you'll get three to five hours of straight sunshine today. 66 out there. 77 on the peninsula. 80 in the beautiful south bay. 78 degrees to the north bay. 70 degrees straight up for the east shore where the a's have a day game. they are still looking good. 83 tri-valley. as we get into the next couple of days, that humidity's going to increase. i might have to do it this morning, thinking about activating the doppler, because we have drizzle out there which commuters want to keep in mind. good morning. >> i like that. when you do that, the red light flashes and activates, activate the doppler. good stuff. we've activated our view of the dumbarton bridge. clear fluff to turn the camera up toward highway 84, lights to the left side, westbound commute off of the high-rise of the dumbarton bridge. there's the high-rise of the san mateo bridge. north, light drive. smoother drive off of the high-rise over to 101. look at the map. both bridges and the peninsula side new york delays, 101.

unaccompanied minor whose fled their homes in central america and are alone in the u.s. the children speak little english but in need of a place to stay while going through the long legal process. host families must go through a two-month process that includes background checks, training and certification. current participants say it's a challenge to foster kids from other countries but rewarding as well. >> he's been great. he's just -- it's an amazing experience. really fulfilling for us. >> catholic charities needs 50 families, it will cover the cost of hosting children and make resources available like counselors, lawyers, social workers, if necessary. happening today, the secretary of veterans affairs will be in palo alto to evaluate the peninsula's facility to ask patients how they're doing. secretary robert mcdonald plans to talk to employees, leadership and patients in palo alto. he wants to make sure patients are getting the care they need,

when they need it. earlier this year, remember a scathing report found 1,700 veterans were kept on secret waiting lists but majority having to wait more than two weeks to be seen. the palo alto facility says it's not the case on the peninsula. new this morning, the government offering a free online service to drivers to find out if their cars have been recalled to get results, drivers enter vehicle identification number on the website, safercar.gov. it allows used car buyers to check for unrepaired cars before they buy them. millions of cars are recalled every year, yet only two-thirds actually get fixed. this year a record 43 million get recalled in the u.s. at&t plans to bring a super high speed internet service to cooper tina, giga power, offers speed of one gigabyte per

we're waiting to hear whether the giants will protest last night's controversial loss to the cubs at wrigley field. >> excuses, excuses. giants down 2-0 bottom foift when it started pouring rain. the cubs' grounds crew makes the error of the night, take a horrible angle trying to get the tarp on the field, leaving parts of the insgeeld bafield and bas sitting in the rain for ten minutes. it only rained 14, but the field was soaked. giants and cubs tried to do whatever they could to pass the time during the 4:34 delay, that included leading fans in cheers, playing the bafjo, signing autographs. the game called at 1:15 a.m. chicago time. hopefully that doesn't create a lag into their playing today. so it goes in the books aas
