"today in the bay's" jay gray live in ferguson where we could learn more about the criminal and civil rights investigations into the police shooting of the unarmed teenager, michael brown. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. it could be the most pivotal day we've seen here since the death of michael brown. consider this, 47 arrests last night, three guns confiscated, several items thrown at police officers. and that was a good night here. but when you look at the scope of what's happened, it was a much better night than likely we've seen in the last 10 or 11 nights here. there were protesters, made sure their voice was heard, but helped police themselves. that's what police are saying. they say it was thanks to the help of the community and leaders from within that community that came out for a part of what happened last night and a part of making sure that they diminished anything that looked like it might escalate into a problem there were still skirmishes and police had to move in a couple of times.
5:46 am
but overall, a much better night and a move in the right direction, laura. that's something that everyone here is cautiously optimistic about. new evidence of primary and early evidence will be given to the grand jury today, first time they've seen anything on this. that's a sign that this investigation is moving forward criminally. u.s. attorney general eric holder will be on the ground here in ferguson today. he'll meet with community leaders, likely meet with the brown family and agents and prosecutors from his office on the ground continuing theirself rights investigation. a big day. a lot could be changing here. >> let's hope calm remains for now. take care, jay. happening right now, grape growers are up early pulling grapes off the vines. the wine harvest kicks off in livermore. later today a group of clergy members will gather to bless the first grapes of the vine.
