this "today in the bay." from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." >> good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we do have breaking news, a very messy morning commute happening right now in the east bay. this is a live look at interstate 880 in hayward where investigators are looking into a possible deadly accident. two of the south bound 880 lanes at industrial avenue are closed, south of san mateo bridge, the bridge traffic could still get backed up. investigators are trying to figure out exactly what happened. but initial reports indicate a person down on the freeway. it's unclear how that person got there or how many cars are involved. let's collect in with mike inouye. he's been tracking this since it began. what are commuters up against? what are the best ways around this. >> the absolute worst time for an incident like this to happen on the traffic front.
6:02 am
human concerns aside, we don't ever want to hear about this type of incident. look at the commute as it builds southbound 880 through hayward out of san leandro. that is the stream of cars. to get out of this, you can try to use over to the west, we have hesperia boulevard, a major service street. to the east, mission boulevard, highway 238. but the two main roadways through the area heading out of hayward, into union city. there's the jam, back at 238 as volume comes out of castro valley, oakland, slapped toward the san mateo bridge. if you're traveling from the east bay to the peninsula. but peninsula listeners, listen up. here look at eastbound 92 as well. head across the san mateo bridge the span is clear but you're heading into the jam. use the dumbarton bridge that will take you across the bay, take north 880 toward union city and hayward that will get you around. i'm going it say it's a couple of hours because it does sound like a serious situation with the police investigation
