u i want to say happy friday to mike inouye. >> and happy friday, christina. san mateo bridge where eastbound the taillights going away from us. there was an issue reported on eastbound 92 at the high-rise. you see it. on the peninsula. no problems here, we'll follow it towards the east bay side. headlights towards us. there was a hazard, debris or a stall. no details just yet, but no slowing either. we'll talk about the sign you saw there, there's no slowing across the whole span. we talk about that construction on 280 in san francisco and reminder, that is closed. closed on time, 2:00 p.m. yesterday and closed through the labor day weekend as a result of a hinge repair work. what is that and how do you get around it? we'll talk about that coming up guys, back to you. >> thank you very much. the woman now known as the serial stowaway, she is now telling a fuller version of her

story. en marilyn hartman was arrested earlier this week. police took her into custody after she was found loitering near baggage claim. earlier this month, she flew from san jose to l.a. without a boarding pass. she's tried to hop flights from san francisco. in her interview, she knows what she's doing is wrong and wanted to get arrested. >> on february 20th, i made a decision. this is it. i am going to try to get through airport security, and if they waive me away, i'm going to stand firm, and i stood firm and they're waving go, go, no, i wanted to arrested. why has the government allowed me to get past security points until i force the issue back in february? and pretty much had to beg to be arrested. >> those listening say she appears to suffer from some type of mental disorder.

police have done a psychological evaluation. police found a woman's body inside a car at a church. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. police say the woman had been stabbed at least once. her identity has not been released. the body was found in grace church parking lot on the road across from san jose's public library. investigator gs trying to review nearby surveillance cameras. this is san jose's 26th homicide of the year. another disturbing discovery, this time near morgan hill where someone dumped a burned body. the investigation had nearby roads closed for part of the day. witnesses found that body on a remote road in unincorporated santa clara county. the body was so badly burned the medical examiner's office has not determined the gender of the victim. the rugged terrain makes it difficult to search the yairt for evidence. and now to our continues coverage of the south napa

earthquake. it has been nearly a week since the ground shook. it's creating more fraz ld nerves for people in and around the napa area. crews were cuttinged off dr cutting off gas -- cutting off gas service. the house suddenly shifted yesterday from its foundation. he was trapped inside when the doors wouldn't open. while he wasn't hurt, frfrtds did try to help him get out through a window. people are without water once ghen morning. this after water starting pouring down twin oaks drive yesterday. crews just finished repairing the main and buckled street, but now they'll have to dig it all up again. this all comes at the napa area prepares to host thousands of tourists. crews have been working around the clock at westin hotel. it has been closed since the earthquake, but soon hopes to open its doors.

spokesperson for the city of napa says 95% or more of the wineries and restaurants are open and ready for your business. today na fa pennsylvania county will catch up on a backlog of calls from people in the community. it has received at least 600 phone calls and messages from people with questions or requests for help. people are invited to gather on the front lawn of the first united method church in napa. it was damaged in sunday's quake, but church members will coast a picnic. red friday, they're all survivors nap refersed to the red tags hanging on the many buildings that are deemed unsafe. meantime, growing concern about the safety of more than 200 inmates now being held at the napa county jail. the jail is yellow tagged. that means the building ask damaged, but cannot -- building is damaged, but cannot be used.

loved oneses are asking for inmates to be evacuated. the jail is providing video conferencing for families and inmates. our coverage of the earthquake continues on our website, nbc basis area.com. there we have more information about at it building's damage. we have tips on how you can prepare yourself no matter where you live in the bay area. we know it's going to happen. again that's nbcbayarea.com. controversial police practice in the south bay now comes with a set of restrictions. the city council told the police department there it can only keep information taken from the automated license plate readers for one year. they are mountded on patrol cars. there is a loophole in this rule, if the police think the information can be used as evidence later on, that information conclusion be kept forever and it's the police who get to consider what's considered evidence.

the department got it last year. its scanned about 136,000 license plates. they've been using the devices for years. crews from fire station 21 will move from mt. pleasant road to 2100 south wright road. the new fire station will give fire crews quicker access to respond to emergencies. there's a ground breaking ceremony at 3:30 this afternoon, construction expected to end by december of next year. new video just into our newsroom, an 80 acre brush fire burning along the route to get to l.a. right now about 50% contained. fire officials believe this fire started after a car crash yesterday. so far, no injuries. it's burning on both sides of highway 152 just east of gilroy. traffic has certainly been impacted by the fire causing some lanes to closed. . you're headed to l.a. this morning, get an earl ely start. >> i think we all do.

>> we've had proof in there. christina loren has a look at your labor day forecast starting with today, good morning. >> good morning. you know what they, they did a lot of construction. good thing that wrapped up, i could make the situation worse, afterall, it's a holiday weekend. this is what we are working with this whole weekend. we are deeming with humidity. i went ahead and activated the water vapor loop just to show you houchl moisture is surging into the bay area. you can see this steady stream. you might be wondering where is this coming from? it's actually the remnants of what was once hurricane marie. so as we head throughout this weekend, the remnants will continue to push into the bay area, it's going to keep your temperatures kind of cool, we'll see high clouds limiting that sunshine. we'll stick with the mid-80s, but it's going to feel hotter out there because of that heat index and we're going to see that boost as we head throughout the weekend. 85 degrees, closer to 90 here in the south bay. 75 for the east shore. look at the holiday weekend forecast in just a minute.

first though we know that construction's going down mike, any impacts for commuters this morning? >> most definitely. we are looking over towards the golden gate bridge, easy from the north side, look at the construction that we saw yesterday just not too long after they did the closure at 12:00 p.m. this is chopper video showing what they're doing. they're cutting through the freeway just like they did over fourth of july weekend and just like on the southbound side earlier. look at that there, actually getting that roadway away from there. good chunk of that. they have to replace a hinge on the flex tblt and movement is necessary by natural occurrences. they have to repair what was going on there as well as one spolt. while with no roadway you can't continue through the area. this whole section of 280 is closed from 101 and the interchange all the way um to at&t park. there is a game tonight. and we see slowing as we did yesterday. everybody has to use 101 north from the interchange up into san francisco, take cesar chavez or

is no strategy yet for dealing with the terrorist group i.c.e. i s i -- isis. the u.s. has hit more than 100 isis targets in iraq. in syria, it's too soon to order air strikes. congress is still in recess. some lawmakers fear the president would order air strikes without congressional approval. >> that's not what's going to happen. it's going to be porntd for congress to know -- important for congress to know what that is because it's going to cost money. >> the president is asking the pentagon officials for options. he is also sending secretary of state john kerry back to the middle east to recruit other countries to help in that fight. expensive repairs of the new span of the bay bridge is eating up the rainy day fund. according to the chronicle, caltrans says the fund is quickly drying up. the bridge contingency funneled was $900 million, collected from

toll payers. now it is down to $90 million. caltrans has had to pay for several unforeseen repairs including testing and ret retrofitting. the cost of demolishing the old span has shot up to $90 million. caltrans says even if the project fund runs out, it does not plan on raising tolls. berkeley proposed soda tax is heading to a courtroom today. the city plans to put a measure on the ballot that would impose a tax on sugary drinks. berkeley residents opposed that tax, claiming that the wording is biassed and misleading ingi voters. malaysia airlines cutting 6,000 work ergs as it tries to revive its damaged image. this following two disasters involving passenger jets. the cuts make up 30% of the work force. google releasing new information surrounding its secret drone project. this is video of so-called

challenge. that led the water supply to automatically shut down to stop waste. residents were still able to access emergency water, but the scottish island, home to about 140 people, they didn't have extra water. the ice bucket challenge taking off in england where a supermarket reportedly ran out of ice. turning now to the microclimate forecast as we look live at san jose this morning. low clouds, and of course we like warm weather for the uni shall end of summer. here's christina loren with whether or not we're going to get it. >> you are going to get it the, kris and scott, you're going to get the heat and the humid film that's the one thing we could do without. overall though, it's going to feel summer like. temperature wise, averages all weekend long finishing up the month of august right on track with our seasonal norms. now right now livermore, 61 degrees, it's comfortable all across the board, but it's going to feel stickier and stickier as the day draws on.

you'll notice the high and midlevel clouds moving into the bay area. temperatures today similar to yesterday feeling warmer though with that additional moisture in the atmosphere. 85 degrees in the south bay. you'll hit 75 degrees on the east shore for today. 75 is not a bad day at all when you consider room temperature is 72 degrees. that's your high for today in san francisco. 87 meanwhile in the north bay. lots going on across the bay area for this holiday weekend. so let me give ewe little preview of what's to come. humidity surges today, more for tomorrow. maybe a stray shower. we have a slight chance tomorrow morning and another chance on sunday afternoon. stays warm for your labor day, but we're going to lose some of that humidity so it'll feel better as we head through your monday. this is what we're looking at temperature wise. maybe you'll to want stick with the south bay. temperatures in the mid-80s all across the board. meanwhile, we are going to get that stretch of 70s promised to you up there tuesday of next week. lots happening like i promised, we'll show you those events that are free for you and your

family. first, back to you with the rest of the news of the day, scott and kris. high school teacher learning a tough lesson about social media now that her twitter feed is grabbing national attention. the parent twitter account of a newark high school teacher posted threatening tweets between april and june. one said i already want to stab some kids, is that bad? the school district stays investigated the tweets, but she's still working there. the newark police department involved her students say she was just joking. >> i think that she definitely wasn't serious about it, because anyone that knows the kind of teacher she is, she is light hearted. >> she is my best friend. i don't want her to get in trouble. >> another tweet talked about her having an itchy trigger finger. hogs told a local newspaper she received a reprimand. she never thought anyone would take these seriously. some want her fired.

the controversy will be discussed this morning on the today show as well. follow-up now on the santa rosa mom accused of choking her daughter's bully. all charges have been dropped. delia garcia bratcher was accused of going to an elementary school and grabbing a 12-year-old boy by the neck. she didn't touch him, but talked to him. the district attorney's office said it interviewed about two dozen witnesses who were all split on the issue. in the end, there was not enough toefd get a conviction -- evidence to get a conviction. >> i felt like they wanted to take my down for no reason. they knew i was innocent. >> garcia bratcher says that if she ever has a problem with a student again, she will not confront that student, she will just file a complaint. which i think she did in this case. >> yes. that's right. some witnesses say she didn't do it. i think that's what ended up happening with the prosecution. 4:51, a sports anchor predicts the future, but it's reaction taking the internet by storm. we'll show you coming up next.
