meteorologist christina loren. >> yeah, there's a nip to it out there this morning. feels like fall. 58 degrees in the south bay, we're at 52 in the north bay, and temperatures are going to be pretty comfortable to kick off the day in some of your east shore and peninsula cities. i have to tell you, it's chilly enough far coat in the north bay this morning. you can ditch it by about 9:00 a.m. your temperatures are going to be rise rapidly today. 90 degrees is the forecasted high for the south bay. you'll hit about 85 degrees on the peninsula. the east shore's at 81, 74 degrees in san francisco. and 70s for most of your beach cities. out in wine country today, 96 degrees. a lot of people to want come to the beach this time of year. this is going to be a great beach day, you have to watch out for some strong rip currents, never turn your back to the ocean. watch out for sneak aways today as well. definitely a calmer sea than over the weekend. but your temperatures at the beach today, 80 degrees in sanlt cruz, monterrey's at 79 degrees, and in the water my friends, 66 degrees. highly unusual to have these

kind of warm ocean currents. we'll tell you why this is occurring and how long this might last coming up in just a little bit. right now back to you, scott, laura, and the top stories of the day. 6:01, new video this morning, crews working to reopen a busy stretch of road in the south bay after a water main break. crews worked around the clock for nearly 24 hours on repairs to a water main that burst in cupertino last night. it happened shortly before 5:00 last night, sending water rushing down westbound lane of stephen's creek boulevard. soaking the southbound highway 85 off-ramp to stephen's creek. deputies closed the affected part of stephen's creek boulevard and the highway 85 off-ramp. then had it back up and running by about 4:00. another 49ers player is in trouble with the law. defensive lineman ray mcdonald was arrested sunday on alleged domestic violence. this arrest comes just after the 49ers are getting ready for the new season. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang joins us live at levi stadium in santa clara, and

stephanie, mcdonald could face a lengthy suspension from the nfl. >> reporter: yeah, that's right, good morning, scott. that is the big question mark here with the nfl's new policy on domestic violence just implemented a few days ago. it could mean some suspension from games to a lifetime ban from the nfl. but we caught up with mcdonald as he walked out of jail, and he indicated that he his story to share. >> when will we hear your side of the story? >> uh, probably when i -- i don't know, man. next couple of days. >> reporter: and that was after mcdonald walked out of santa clara county jail yesterday by himself looking far ride. free on $25,000 bail. it was around 3:00 yesterday morning when san jose police arrested him on felony dplesic charges -- domestic violence charges. now according to 49ers insider officers arrested mcdonald after

they saw bruises on his fiancees arms and neck. >> can't say too much about it right now. >> reporter: mcdonald is set to be in court september 15th. as for his future on the field, that remains to be scene. the nfl policy states the first offense means a mandatory six game unpaid suspension, a second would mean a lifetime ban with the possibility to petition for reinstatement, but commissioner roger goodall indicated there is be more severe punishment if there are aggravating first office, choking, repeated striking, presence of a child, and or if the victim is pregnant. now sources tell nbc bay area that mcdonald's fiancee, the alleged victim in this case is pregnant and that could of course then impact any potential ruling by the nfl where mcdonald is concerned. live in santa clara, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> all right, stephanie, thank

they don't know the name, the gender, the achblgt victim, nobody's been arrested and they're not sure what led to the shooting. its been nearly a month since oakland's previous homicide. the bay's 101 card room will not move to milpitas any time soon, the state legislature killed the bill. provided it stayed in santa clara county. "today in the bay's" nannette miranda joins live this morning. what does this mean now, nannette? >> reporter: well no one knows a this the point. developers need this property in a few years. so time is running out for bay 101 to find someplace new. bay 101 opted move to milpitas where it could build a bigger facility, but state proposal allowing them failed to get state proovl and lawmakers have adjourned for the year on the saturday. again, it's unclear what san jose card room will do now. state law bans a card room now

in santa clara county to move to another city within the county without approval from the current city. and san jose is unlikely to give that permission because it would mean lost tax revenue. they needed the bill to bypass that process and go directly to milpitas. now the lease expires in november of 2017. the card room doesn't have much time left to start construction and finish the new site by then. live in san jose, nannette miranda for "today in the bay." >> thanks so much, nannette. over the weekend, the legislature did pass a number of bills including one that will require all employers to provide three days of paid sick leave to workers every year. the sick pay bill applies to both full and part-time workers. it allows workers to accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked. governor brown is expected to sign the bill, and if he does, california will be just the second state in the nation to offer paid sick leave to part-time workers.

connecticut is the first. california could also become the first state in the nation to ban plastic bags. governor jerry brown has until the end of the month to make a final decision. it comes after lawmakers approved a ban last week. many already have those bans in place. the bill would prohibit plastic bags at grocery stores and large pharmacies next year and at convenience stores in 2016. shoppers will have to pay at least ten vent cents for paper or reusable bags. >> it's not a big deal to bring your own bag. it's a big waste and people don't recycle them necessarily. >> environmentaled a vo caughts have been pushing for plastic bag ban for years now a new kpl will give manufacturers $2 million to transition to making reusable bags. massachusetts and washington are also looking goo into similar bans. >> plastic bags will be banned in walnut creek.

hacker for flagrant violation of her privacy. 49ers defensive end ray mcdonald is free on bail this morning. arrested in san jose early yesterday morning for allegedly abusing his fiancee. sources tell us she's pregnant. police are not saying much about the case, but 49ers insider matt barros say police saw bruises on the the fiancee's arms and necks. >> long-term health to victims of the napa quake. the center opens today at the napa valley marriott hotel. those affected will be able to meet one on one with trained red cross caseworkers. nbc says chinese tech firm alibaba plans to launch its record breaking ipo next week. the wall street journal disagrees saying shares could begin trading september 18th. the company's ipo expected to raise up to $20 billion bigger than even facebook's $16 billion debut. the governor's office still hopes the deal can be reached to

lure a new tesla plant to california. tesla is eyeing four states as possible locations for its new $5 billion factory. state leaders have been tried to keep california in the mix, but the legislature this weekend adjourned from the session without approving incentives to entice tesla. soon you'll be able to buy things of a your favorite stores with the swipe of a finger. apple teaming up with major banks and businesses to turn it into a mobile wallet. this includes visa, mastercard, and america express. it'll be unveiled with the new iphone. a spokesperson for apple didn't want to comment, but experts due do say the company likely wants to keep users within its system. new video of the apple campus two construction site shows the project from a birds eye or a drones eye view. uploaded to youtube, a quad copper flying over the avenue.

let's take you outside and show you what we're working with weather wise. upper 50s in san jose area. we've been in the 60s for the past seven mornings. so this is really refreshing treat. you can open up the windows in your home, give your ac a break for the morning hours, then you want to shut everything down, close the blinds by right around 10:00 a.m. it's going to be hot out there for today. but this might be the only day you have to use your ac all week long in the south bay. 568 degrees to start in oakland, we're at 61 for san carlos, and 59 degrees in half-moon bay on your way to the 70s, and you can imagine, people will be out in half-moon bay for today because people have the day off. san francisco showing you a little bit of fog here. this was the only picture i could even find any fog for you this morning. everything else is mostly clear, you can see that in oakland, south bay, san jose at this point. and a nice clear start to the day. temperatures are going to be hot. yesterday we hit the mid-80s. today back to 90s in the south bay. mid-80s on the planes. upper 70s yesterday. you'll hit the low 80s on the

the first place l.a. angels over the weekend. a's will look to turn things around this afternoon against the seattle mariners. first pitch is at 1:05. let's cross the bay for the mccovey cove. the giants waking up in colorado this morning. they're going to play a game and a half against the rockies today. they finish off a suspended game for back in may, then they'll hit the field for the regularly scheduled show down right there after. former 49er quarterback alex smith agreed to a new deal with the kansas city chiefs. you'll remember smith was traded to the chiefs back in 2013 to make room for a guy named collin kaepernick. kansas city star reports the chiefs agreed to pay him for the next four years. not bad. earlier this year, kaepernick signed a six year extension worth $126 million. and the stanley cup made a destroy the shark east territory over the weekend. the general managers of the l.a. kings decided to spend the day

new video this morning out of iraq. at least 37 people are dead after a suicide bomber rammed an explosive packed humvee into a construction site. the blast killed 22 security personnel, 15 civilians in the city of romati. the target a nine story building being used by security by security personnel.

they and virginia lieu ja have been the targets of extremists over the past knew months. developing in pakistan, the national television news channel had to go off air this morning as protesters stormed its headquarters in central islamabad. the protesters reportedly beat journalists and destroyed tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. over the weekend, protests calling for the prime minister's resignation turned violent. at least three people were killed in clashes with police. two prominent u.s. senators say the obama administration could send weapons to help ukraine defend itself. this morning, the senators are calling for tough sanctions on russia for its role in ukraine. meanwhile, ukraine says, a border guard vessel was attacked yesterday. this was the first incident at sea. hours earlier, russian president vladimir putin called on ukraine to immediately start talks on a political solution to the crisis. weeks after ferguson officer shot and killed an unarmed teen,

police are equipped with body cameras. officers are completing training on how to use those cameras. officers wore the cameras for the first time on saturday during a protest march on ferguson. two companies donated 50 body cameras, enough for almost every officer on the force. the devices attach to their uniforms and record video and audio. tony stewart returned to the track this weekend for the first time after he hit and killed another driver. here you see the welcome from fans. they were thrilled to death to see him. this happened yesterday or over the weekend. you'll recall that stewart hit someone on a dirt track, stewart skipped three races in fact after his car hit and killed another driver, 20-year-old kevin ward junior. the investigation into ward's death is ongoing. no decision has been made about whether stewart will face charges. two teens are in the hospital this morning after a carnival ride at a church

bizarre in el paso malfunctioned. images were taken at the scene. one of the teens seriously injured. another had minor injuries. firefighters had to use a ladder to reach other riders stranded 40 feet in the air. the cause of the accident is under investigation. severe weather on the east coast shut down a popular music festival. the electric zoo music festival in new york city was canceled and evacuated as thunderstorms rolled into the area. this decision was made about six hours before the third and final day yesterday. fans took ferries and shuttle buss to get off the island. last year two people died of drug overdoses combined with overheating. this year, organizers added a cooler tunnel and drug sniffing dogs. there have been no reports of any injuries. a southern california high school has gotten rid i have its controversial mascot, but kept the controversial name. the mascot was a cartoonish sneering man with a scraggly beard, hooked nose, and a head

scarf. the team was known at the arabs. last november, someone brought the mascot to the attention of the discrimination committee, the school agreed to get a new mascot and have its logo redesigned. the school will keep the arab name, and the theme. belly dancing genie that appeared during football games was also retired. bit unusual this morning, japan's government urging people to stock up on toilet paper. that's because almost half the country's toilet paper supply comes from a high risk earthquake zone. the government's urgency are all part of today's national disaster prevention day. officials say people think of food and water during a disaster, but they forget about the toilet paper. officials warn a toilet paper shortage could last up to a month if the area's hit with a strong earthquake. >> don't want that. 6:27 right now, militants take over in libya and have a pool party.

today's interviews. all three say the only way to win freedom is if the u.s. government sends a high ranking official to north korea to make a direct plea on their behalf. detainees jeffrey fowl and matthew miller say they expect to face trial within a month. they say they do not know what punishment they're facing or even what the specific charges are against them. detainee kenneth bay said his shelt failing. the two other detainees say they were being treated well as they awaited trial. happening now, search and rescue crews are clearing debris and looking for two people who are still trapped inside a building that collapsed in a suburb north of paris overnight. so far, six people, including several children are confirmed dead. ten people were saved by emergency responders, but several of them are seriously injured. officials say the collapse happened after an explosion. too early to confirm, but they

think the explosion was caused bay gas leak. this morning president obama facing growing prrk to do more about the growing isis threat in syria. "today in the bay's" tracy pots joins us live in washington. tracy, the president says air strikes are on the back burner for now and he's getting criticism for that. >> reporter: well when it comes to syria, we're already doing air strikes in iraq, but syria is a different story. but there's some concern here among lawmakers that the threat isn't going away. wait is the official word from the white house, but some republicans argue there's no time. >> we can't wait forever. and the longer we do wait, the stronger isis democrats. >> reporter: even democrats worry about waiting too long. >> he's very caution, maybe in this instance, too cautious. >> reporter: president obama says nose strategy for dealing with isis militants in syria. >> the president of the united states is either in denial or overwhelmed. he's either in denial or overwhelmed, one of the two.

>> reporter: the policy republicans argue has to defend iraq, but not to engage in syria. >> that is a decision. that is a policy. that is a strategy, and it's not working. >> reporter: democrats fear rushing in too soon with military power could be a big mistake. >> if we simply come in and start bombing isis, we run the risk of forcing sunnis into their camp, we have to have the right targets and the right support in order to be effective. >> reporter: the president wants to build a coalition of allies first. >> we can't be sheriff of the whole world, it's france, it's the brits, it is the other countries that need to work with us, including countries like saudi arabia and that region. >> reporter: one big concern, how many americans are fighting with isis and whether they're planning to bring that fight back home. that is the concern. and so the president says for now, continuing air strikes in iraq where they seem to be have been effective but no air strikes for now in syria.

ocean current bring water up the california coast. that's typically in the mid-50s, even upper 40s this time of year. for today, right now as a matter of fact, we're at 66 degrees in the water in monterrey. and we're going to talk about why we're getting those unusual currents and in just a moment, first i want to show you what's going on out there right now. upper 50s in san jose, 60 degrees in san francisco. taking a live look here at woodside, really pretty sunrise here. you can see a little bit of fog over the coastal mountains. not quite going to make its way over the mountains for today. even ocean beach, not a lot of fog out there this morning. pacifica, crystal clear start. we've got a little bit of fog at point reyes, i'm showing you your beaches because that's where temperatures will be the most comfortable. and just a gorgeous start to the day coming in from tiburon. you can make out the golden gate bridge in the distance there. as we head through the throughout the day, 73 degrees in san francisco. north bay, at 96 degrees.

one of the hot spots as usual will be out along the east shore. if you're looking for the cooler temperatures, this is the place to be right by the beach. monterrey's at 79, we're atle 0 degrees, even warm in santa cruz. 73 for half-moon bay. in the water, look at temperatures, 66 degrees, just offshore in monterrey. and the reason why, is because we're getting that southwesterly flow. all of that humidity we had to deal with over the weekend, this is the benefit, the warm ocean air really going to make for a really nice day out there. i have to tell you though, if you're going to be out there, take a buddy with you. go to a guarded beach. we have rip currents, right now back to you scott and laura. crews on the peninsula getting started on a big construction project, starting today, several sections of the road near palo alto will be closed for about a month. this will include three and a half miles of road in unincorporated santa clara county. the project is repaving and filling and sealing cracks to prevent future maintenance

"today in the bay's" nannette miranda joins us live. so what does it mean for the card room now? >> reporter: well laura, for now it's unclear what bay 101 will do after losing its bid to move north to milpitas. the state legislature adjourned for the year on saturday without okaying a bill that would have allowed them to leave san jose. bay 101 is looking for a new sight because the current location will be bulldozed in a new year so a portion of a huge paufs park can be developed. milpitas would allow them to build a bigger facility. san jose is le luck tant to do the same. state law bans a card room to move to another city within the county without approval from the current city. as you can imagine, san jose does not want to lose that tax revenue and is unlikely to get permission to leave. the state proposal would have allowed bay 101 to bypass all of that. now bay 101 has a lease here

extension in san francisco are going a lot quicker than expected. it could be done by some time today. the replacing two bridge hinges as part of a seismic upgrade. the closure is from the 101 interchange to the king street exit all northbound lanes are down shut. southbound lanes are not affected. san francisco commuters take note, muni fare hikes take affect today, only some riders will be impacted. fares for adults are climbing 25 cents to $2.25, and monthly adult fast passes increasing by $4.00. fares for senior, youth, and the disables will not change. let's take a peek outside as we check the forecast this morning. a live look at san jose. a lot of folks have today off, a lot of people firing up the barbecues later, it's going to be warm. >> it is, might be a good idea to get the barbie going early.

a warm day in pacifica, you'll hit the 70s out there for today. want to show you sunol, beautiful, hazy sky here making for a pretty sunrise, but overall, this is one of the hot spots getting closer in the triple digits out in the tri-valley for today. that's the weather story of the day, hot inland temperatures, warm coastal spots even, temperatures at about 80 degrees for santa cruz for today. 85 on the peninsula, the east shore is at 80 degrees, san francisco's at 73 degrees, and you can see the san mateo bridge, a very light drive if you have anywhere to go right now, there's hardly anybody on the roadways. 96 degrees out in the north bay for today. and getting into your all important workweek, a lot of people will be headed back to work for tomorrow, and temperatures will be comfortable out there, at least for the first couple days, then we're talking down right cool, 79 degrees for thursday, friday, at 79 degrees. one hot day, back in the 80s tomorrow, and return to the 70s thursday into friday. starting to feel more like fall as we dive into the week together. and we'll be back here with you,

we're laboring with you. maybe you have to go to work today, hey scott, laura, we're in that same boat. over to you. >> we are, in great company, thanks a lot, christina. police in san francisco are looking for a driver who shot a man in a case of possible road rage. it happened at about 2:00 yesterday afternoon near the intersection of golden gate avenue. witnesses told investigators the man was crossing the street when a speet speeding car nearly hit him. he raised his arm towards the car. the driver reportedly made a u turn, drove up to the man and opened fire. >> i heard a popping sound, didn't don on me at first. then four seconds later i heard another pop. i told the desk clerk that someone was shot. and i came back and the guy was on the ground. >> the victim is in critical condition, he has not been identified. key 49ers defensive player is facing possible domestic violence charges. lineman ray mcdonald was arrested early sunday morning after san jose police were called to his home. ver -- he was celebrating with other players. after police saw bruises on the fiancee's neck and arms, officers arrested the niners 29-year-old defensive end. >> can't say too much about it right now. they know what kind i person i am. >> reporter: this coincides with informal commissioner roger goodell's new domestic violence policy. the first means a mandatory six game unpaid suspension, a second would mean a lifetime ban. now, goodell also indicated there would be more severe punishments if there were aggravating circumstances. involvement of a weapon, choking, repeated striking, presence of a child, and or if the victim is pregnant. and that last one would matter possibly in mcdonald's case, sources tell nbc bay area that mcdonald's fiancee, the alleged victim in this case is pregnant. now mcdonald is supposed to be back in court on september 15th.

6:56. kraft is recalling nearly 8,000 cases of its popular american cheese singles. the food giant says it discovered a supplier did not store an ingredient at the correct temperature. meaning that cheese could spoil or cause sickness. the recall affects cheese singles with the best buy date of february 20th or 21st of next year. the state legislature's killed a bill that would allowed the bay 101 card room to leave san jose as long as it stayed within santa clara county. bay 1011 owners have been hoping to move to milpitas which would have allowed them to expand. 49ers defensive end ray mcdonald free on bail this morning, he was arrested in san jose early yesterday morning for allegedly abusing his fiancee. sources tell us she's pregnant. police aren't saying much about the case, but 49ers insider matt baros says police saw bruises on the fiancee's arm and neck. well, if some of you are just waking up for labor day and getting the barbecue ready,
