coming up on "early today" violent storms? various parts of the country. from powerful lightning strikes in iowa to creepy tornadoes overnight in kansas. what is ahead for today? >> plus the u.s. launches military air strikes in somalia against the leader of the terrorist group al shabab. we have the latest. >> the fbi is involved in the investigation of the hacked nude photos of jennifer lawrence, kate upton and other female celebrities. a huge week in the ahead in the push for the higher minimum wage. >> a scary landing for frightened passengers and the pope's plan for peace. it's tuesday, september 2nd. well, good morning everybody i'm richard lui. we begin with the terror strike. u.s. forces on attack in somalia. the target al shabaab. the terror group tied to al qaeda. there are few details except that a u.s. drone and hell fire missiles were used. this target was this man. al shabaab's leader. two vehicles were hit but it's not known if he was in one of them. al shabaab first hit u.s. radar in 2008. in 2013 it claimed the responsibility for an attack on a kenyan mall. 67 were killed, 175 hurt. apple is taking bold steps to prevent another incident of alleged hacking of nude pictures. this comes one day after nude pictures of more than 100 celebrities, swren fer lawrence, kim kardashian, rihanna as well

all leaked on-line. apple has fixed the glitch that could allow hackers to obtain user names and pass words on find my iphone. it's unclear if this is the method the hackers used to find and leak the nude pictures, some of which have been called fakes. they said we are actively investigating this report. kirsten dunst fired back on twitter simply saying, thank you, i-cloud. >> meanwhile, the fbi launching its own criminal investigation into the anonymous perpetrator behind these leaks. he is reportedly on the run. past fbi cases of the leaked nude celebrity pictures and privacy resulted in convictions. time magazine brings up where are all the hacked pics of men? now to north korea, a plea for help from three americans

being held there. in a rare move matthew miller, jeffrey foul and kenneth bay spoke to the foreign media on monday. kenneth bay grabbed in 2012. he's accused of trying to overthrow the government. fowl was obtained in june after leaving a bible in a hotel. miller was held in april after asking for asylum. now, with guards watching all three said the only solution here to their swaying is for a u.s. official to come to north korea and ask for their freedom. minimum wage is getting a lot of attention this week. another round of strikes by fast food workers seeking $15 an hour is scheduled for thursday. that's in some 150 cities. one organizer says workers in some cities have been trained to engage in peaceful disobedience during the protest. he launches the largest antipoverty program in l.a.'s history. he wants to raise the minimum wage to $13.25 an hour. he's not the only one looking

for higher minimum wage. president obama said yesterday he is not asking for the moon. he just wants a good deal for american workers. >> there is no denying a simple truth, america deserves a raise. i think eventually congress is going to hear them. we'll break those folks down. we'll just stay on them. we'll just keep at it. that's how i got michelle to marry me. wore her down. >> perhaps this double rainbow is a good sign for the president. it appeared over marine one after he returned to washington from wisconsin. now he is headed overseas today. his latest trip is aimed at rallying support for ukraine and against isis forces in iraq and syria. mr. obama is headed first to astonia where leaders are worried about a rising russian threat. i'm joined by tracy pots in washington. he has a lot to get done.

>> we begin today which is not in iraq or syria or estonia or ukraine. we begin, as you noted at the top of the broadcast, in africa with that u.s. military strike in somalia. >> reporter: you're looking at video of somali soldiers taking on a town that had been captured by al shabaab. overnight officials said a u.s. drone shot missiles at at least two vehicles. it's believed they were going after al shabaab's leader. this as president obama flies to astonia this afternoon. that former soviet state is worried about a russian take over. from there it's on to the nato summit in wales where the u.s., the u.k. and others are expected to discuss air strikes to defeat isis militants in syria. >> that will mean military assets, germany already announced it will be sending weapons to those trying to oppose isis forces. >> reporter: the u.s. is already

going after isis in iraq. this pentagon video shows the latest humanitarian air drops there. some lawmakers are willing to come back to washington early to give president obama authority to expand air strikes. >> it's our duty and our constitutional responsibility to debate and to vote on any measures that would expand this war. >> reporter: but the push into syria is on hold for now. the president's critics hope he'll take a stronger stance like the british. >> we need a firm security response with a military action to go after terrorists. >> reporter: the u.k. ready to go. the u.s. waiting for more countries to join the effort. >> nato as an organization, as a group may not go after isis. a lot of experts believe that the individual countries that make up nato, the u.s., the u.k., germany, and france, very likely will, richard. >> tracie potts in washington. thank you so much. now to an allegiamt airlines
