rescue crew going door to door in a south san jose neighborhood. the family lost track of him early this morning near his house. nbc bay area's christy smith live from the neighborhood with more. christie. >> reporter: police have been speaking with family and friends. we did see his mom leave a short time ago, presumely to go home. no sign of the 6-year-old boy who has autism and is non-verbal. police are asking for the public's help in locating sergio who disappeared from the family home this morning. it's believed me may have wandered off. police spoke with a man who said he was the man's boyfriend this afternoon. he said he looked for the boy this morning and then spent the day talking with officers about it. the mom spoke with them at length too and they were escorted from one command post

to another. search and rescue teams looked for him in a three to four mile radius. we're told he was home one minute and then gone. >> he was happy. i don't know what happened this morning. >> basic operation is start near the last location he was seen and work your way out ward. >> reporter: he is latino. he has brown hair. 40 pounds with a reddish rash mark on the left side of his left. because he is non-verbal if you see him act calm and then call police and they will respond. a woman killed on a south bay highway has been identified. 27-year-old laura died after a

car crash. it happened on the ramp connecting highway 101 to northbound 680. she was a passenger in a honda that crashed into the retaining wall. a busy street is still closed after crews demolished a building. it was nearly destroyed in a fire on thursday. no word when it will be back open to traffic. more details on the bus crash in the east bay that left 11 people injured.

the bus came within inches of a 3-month-old baby inside. he's still on the run tonight and on probation for multiple stolen vehicle charges. he ran away from the scene. the bus driver told police he was driving 25 miles an hour and swerved to avoid the stolen car. rain coming to california but not in the bay area. hurricane norbert is hitting the baja area. we have our first look at weather. we'll see high clouds coming this way. mostly cloud free. we'll see low clouds. here is a look at hurricane

norbert to the south now. now moving into cooler waters. the moisture is going to begin to spill north ward into southern california tomorrow. we'll see drizzle with the low clouds coming in across the bay area. for areas south of santa cruz there's a slight chance we may see a few showers late tomorrow into monday. thanks very much. california may not be getting the help it needs for its drought this winter. the national weather service is watching to see if a rain rich el nino system is coming our way. earlier this year meteorologists predicted an 80% chance that an el nino system will come. it's now gone down to 60, 65%. all that rainfall will be much welcome news as we deal with

this drought. current conditions are not ideal for any strong el nino to develop. hundreds of homes have been evacuated near yosemite national park. a portion of state route 49 that leads into the park has been closed, but the rest of the park, the rest of yosemite is wide open. no homes or businesses have been damaged. dry conditions are fueling the fire making it harder to isolate. president obama announced he'll delay action on immigration reform until after the november elections. it will hurt any chance of a long term comprehensive reform. nbc bay area news political analyst larry girstein says he's

caught between a rock and a hard place. >> if he moves within the immigration, he keeps things well. if he does, he jeopardizes three or four senate races where the democrats are kept at distance from the president. >> he will act on immigration reform by tend of year meaning he'll do so by executive action, not through congress. i spoke earlier this week with the white house about the urgent need to fix the immigration system. i reminded them there's 11 million people waiting for relief and justice. our immigration system is in dire need of reform. where republicans have failed, the president must act and act quickly. in his exclusive interview with "meet the press," chuck todd

an extreme measure to contain the ebola out break. people would not be allowed to leave their homes. this starpts on september 18th. doctors without borders are raising questions about this. this group says it will not help contain the outbreak. it could help further contain the disease as cases are concealed. west africa has been struggling to curb the virus that's killed 1900 people so far. one of the doctors infected is in stable condition at a nebraska hospital. he's the third american aid worker to become sick.

the other two were successfully treated in atlanta. >> reporter: this isolation unit where he fights for his life is so unique it's never been fully activated until now. seen in this training video it was created in 2006 because of concerns about bioterrorism after september 11. with special air and sterilization successes, secure access, 35 staff on four hour shifts is the largest unit of its kind in the country. >> we have technicians, nurses, they all volunteer for this role. >> reporter: today doctors say he remains in stable condition after arriving in omaha from liberia yesterday. >> are you optimistic about recovery at this point? >> we're going to aggressively support this patient and hope for the best. >> reporter: he contracted the virus at this hospital. both have now recovered. there's word they have spoken.

he just returned to liberia as the epidemic spread. >> he's not someone who can stand back when there's a need that he can take care of. >> reporter: now doctors here expect to treat sacra for several weeks, the usual time it takes ebola to run its course. they reassure that this patient's presence poses no risk to your loved one. with no known cure and supplies depleted of a experimental drugs, doctors say they may try other new treatments still being developed. as they battle to make him strong enough to survive this deadly disease. meteorologist rob with a look at your weekend forecast plus new life for a park on the peninsula wiped out by a big mudslide. all the renovation work that will make it stronger than ever before. be right back.

right now people living on the coast in southern california are preparing for potential problems from high waves and tides. tonight it could hit. city crews have been working around the clock to build up a sand berm stretching almost two miles along the peninsula. >> as the water continues to erode that berm it continues to slough off into the ocean. >> the high tide is hitting right about now. residents will soon find out if the berms hold up. we're seeing the wave action there from hurricane norbert. right now a category 1 storm. the big waves down here closer to the storm center of 15 to 20 feet. the swell coming out of south

about 5 to 10 feet. radar view and satellite view still pretty impressive right off to the west of baja, california. now moving into cooler water so it will weaken considerably as it drops off from a tropical storm to a tropical depression. most will head towards arizona and parts of california. we'll see some of these high clouds spilling closer to the bay area come tomorrow. right now we have 60s outside. close to 62 degrees. we're still seeing temperatures around the south bay near 70, south of downtown san jose. pretty comfortable evening around campbell. 65 in liveermore. we're wampi inwatching the low . the low clouds could bring

drizzle for a few spots. passing lunchtime we'll see the low clouds like we had today. notice what's happening to our south and ooets. that is the moisture now moving from south to north what's left of hurricane norbert but begin to toss chance of seeing some rain into parts especially of southern california but maybe even the central coast. as you can see the rainfall projections which in some spots could approach two to three inches of rain but it's the areas south of santa cruz where you can see a few showers. looks like most of the rain producing clouds will stay away. now we do have a bit of an orbing trend ahead. temperatures are fairly cool for places like pleasanton dropping down to 85 degrees as we head into monday. notice the changes you're seeing there and the seven-day forecast at bottom of the screen as the highs make a run at the 90s.

some warmer temperatures on the w way. 80 degrees in san jose. we'll see temperatures begin to climb up towards wednesday and thursday with some mid-80s in the forecast. making a run at the 70s for the second half of weekend. we'll see highs in the 80s. over towards livermore nice finish to the weekend. we should see the low to mid-90s back in the forecast as you pass wednesday and thursday. rjts still to come, talk about one close shave for earth, as in our planet. we're talking pit bull here. the newly discovered asteroid that's about to fly by this weekend at tens of thousands of miles per hour.

two years ago is back in business. daly city leaders helped celebrate the grand re-opening. it's been closed since 2012. a water main triggered a mudslide. work has been done to beautify the park and strengthen the infrastructure. >> today is your day. today is day of celebration. today is a day of renewal. >> it's so nice. it's beautiful. >> the changes include a new circular path, better lighting, more men shs and more tables. an asteroid the side of a small house is barrelling relatively close to earth tonight. experts say there's no cause for alert. it's nicknamed pit bull. it's an estimated 85 feet in

coast guards are continuing to search for a private plane that stopped communicating with air traffic controllers. a strange story. the new york couple on board were flying from rochester, new york to naples, florida. they just kept flying down the east kcoast, off the east coast before going to jamaica. >> reporter: the search for the remains of a small plane spotted from the air yesterday after its 1700 mile ghost flight down the eastern sea board. the first indication that larry and jane were in trouble came at 10:04 a.m. when he told controllers something wasn't right with his plane. a brand new 2014 tbm 900 and needed to descend to 18,000 feet. >> we need descends down to about one eight zero. >> reporter: he never declared an emergency and control directed limb to 25,000 feet.

>> two five zero. we need to get lower. >> working on that. >> reporter: soon after he stopped communicating. as the plane continued flying a straight line south, u.s. fighter pilots intercepted the plane and said the windows were frosted over and he was slumped over. >> is he breathing? >> i can see his chest falling and rising. >> reporter: they believe the cabin may have lost pressure. >> people get sleepy and they nod off. the problem is they don't wake back up. >> reporter: the plane continued flying over cuba before running out of fuel and crashing just off the coast of port antonio jamaica. >> crew members spotted yesterday what they believe was an aircraft debris field about 28 miles offshore. when ships moved in to confirm it, they couldn't find anything and still today nothing.

>> reporter: today in their hometown of rochester where larry was a real estate developer, the city paid tribute. >> the people who knew them are going to be forever touched by their passion for and their love of this city. >> that was tom costello reporting. he was an experienced pilot. in fact, he was the president of an organization of pilots who fly the planes. a san jose man accused of beating an elderly man is in custody this evening. he turned himself into authorities today. he was wanted for felony assault after detectives say he attacked the elderly women in the restroom of the park on labor day. oakland mayor says her city will no longer host the popular but controversial urban shield conference. the conference and trade show kicked off yesterday. it was met with protests in

downtown oakland. some 5,000 emergency responders from all over the world are attending this conference. this weekend they are taking part in disaster response drills across the bay area. the mayor says the negative publicity not worth hosting the conference again. a group of world war ii veterans is preparing for a once in a lifetime trip. 26 veterans received orientation for a free trip to washington, d.c. they'll visit the world war ii memorial. this is all taking part later this month. it's part of a first of its kind event called honor flight. these veterans have never been able to visit the monuments dedicated to them. >> for many they have never been to washington, d.c. >> the honor flight tour will

honoring fallen police officers killed in the line of duty in a unique way, in this way. dozens of officers around the west and across the world in san francisco to raise money for the san francisco police foundation. 75 officers showed off their precision motorcycle skills. organizers wanted to make an important point. >> we're focusing on pedestrian and traffic safety. all the conversations about what's going on in the different cities, counties and countries just all hopefully go to make the cities and counties and countries we work in safely. >> money raised today will go to a toy drive and summer youth hiring programs. the drought is squeezing

many south bay businesses. the santa clara water district is shutting off certain customers to protect the drinking water supply. it impacks the cinnabar hills golf club. in a story you'll see only on nbc bay area, we see why the golf course faces a unique crisis. >> reporter: the public golf course has been a popular member of the south bay community since 1998. it depends on 58 feet of surface water a month from the district to operate. two families of five use one acre. >> reporter: it's in a remote part of south san jose. a beautiful setting for officers but one they would have to shut down if the water district cuts off its water supply. >> the golf course cannot survive without a steady water

supply. we employ a hundred people. our payroll is in the millions of dollars. >> reporter: most other customers aren't sharing tapping into recycled water pipes. >> they're not over the water basin. both sides feel the squeeze. all right. meteorologist rob is here now with your forecast. >> the forecast right now looks more or less what giant microclimate. we're seeing the same temperatures all around. hazy skies.

some of that due to the smoke that's been coming down. we'll have some high clouds coming in late in the day. the big story so far has been the surf heading towards southern california. some of those wave heights five to ten feet will high surf will continue through monday. this storm is moving into cooler waters. the moisture will be directed up to southern california. some of that will get close to the bay area. it will be case of close but not quite enough to give us any rain. this will be the low cloud cover that we're accustomed to this time of year. some high clouds possible coming up a little bit later on into

the afternoon. you can see how most of that moisture staying across where the rainfall totals for this time of year can be very impressive. this is some food news if the drought stays wide. some locations could pick up to to 3 inches of rain. it doesn't appear much knot of in terms of the chances of showers tomorrow. high pressure is going to move in which will lead to our temperatures begin to climb up. this warming trend will warm up the temperatures toward the middle part of the week. you'll see the numbers climb up into the mid-80s to 90 by the middle part of the week.

>> after a brave fight. legend is lost. welcome to "access hollywood". i'm billy bush. just over one week ago when joan rivers stopped breathing following a medical procedure. on thursday the woman who tore down barrier for female comic passed away. it was her daughter melis at her mother side broke the news to the world. it which is great sadness that i announce the death of my mother joan rivers. she passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. flowers placed on joan star on the hollywood walk of fame in honor of the comedy vet passing. >> she is amazing. her strength was incredible. she became really a very good friend of
