you are on cruise control. >> another second, which is good. still happy to be here and thanks. >> good to have you, as always. >> it is a very busy news weekend. >> we want to get right to today's top story. the same storm system that we told you about on saturday, which was responsible for knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of people in the midwest continue to wreck havoc on saturday moving into the northeast. dylan has more on that. dylan, good morning? >> good morning. it was a busy day yesterday. one person was killed in that storm. saturday, there was fair warning about this system with severe thunderstorm warnings issued all day. even as the storms rolled in, a lot of people were still take bin surprise. >> strong storms roll tlud new england. north of boston, two women in their 70s were struck by lightning at the beach. both were taken to the hospital in critical condition. >> the storm arrived quickly and without warning. they had no time to get out of the water. >> in new york, frightening

moments captured on security video as a huge tree limb demolished a car. >> it felt like a tornado. you saw outside the wind was crazy. it happened like in a minute and it was gone. >> the same storm system knocked out power to close to half a million customers in the midwest friday night. some may be without electricity for days to come. five people were hurt outside detroit trapped under a collapsing church tent. >> when the winds started coming in, it looked like a big pair of shoes. the wind was coming in through the sides and up through the top. >> chicago actress, mali glenn, who also starred in nbc "chicago fire" was riding her bike when she was struck and killed by a falling tree limb. >> across the bod der in canada, social media litigators up with the storms bringing rain and lightning to parts of ontario. >> that powerful cold front is moving away. we have no threat of severe weather today. out in the pacific, we are still focused on hurricane norbert. it is weakening, very quickly.

now, winds are at about 75 miles per hour. it is going to take a turn to the northeast around affect mexico. however, for parts of the southwest, we are still going to see some of the moisture stream in and produce some heavier downpours as we go into the next couple of days. we are looking at flash flood watches in effect. we could see rainfall rates at 1 inch per hour and, again, it just can't absorb into the ground that quickly and you end up with some flash flooding. we could see some flooding with southern nevada, phoenix and tucson could end up with 3-4 inches of rain. this is going to be an issue as we go through the next 48 hours. we do have to keep an eye out for flash flooding, monsoonal moisture that is grabbing extra moisture from hurricane norbert. it is going to be a little bit messy out that way. erica? a private funeral service will be held for comedian, joan rivers, that passed away at the age of 81.

on saturday, joan's daughter, melissa and her grandson were seen walking into her new york city home with a steady stream of people walking by to honor and remember the icon. ron mott is outside the temple where the services will be held. >> reporter: the entrance to the temple is right back here. we are expecting the celebrity mourners to line up the sidewalk and wrap around 66th street. she was very clear in her 2012 clip, the kind of funeral service was not to be something formal and sombre but something very brash, very hollywood with all the pomp and circumstance and a little bit of drama. >> they said bring along something black and sexy. i took diana ross. >> reporter: joan rivers was not the quiet, shy type, not certainly publicly. >> i was talking to melissa and she said, what should i do when a guy gets fresh. i said, sent him to me. >> reporter: no surprise she

comings and going. after the service, the red carpet will be rolled up and buried with the comic icon. >> reporter: today's service is taking place amid a state investigation to find out what caused joan rivers' death. >> ron mott, thank you. reaction is coming in this morning to president obama's obama's decision to delay executive action on immigration until after the mid-term eyex. chuck todd sat down with the president and asked him about that. >> you made a decision to delay any executive action until after the action. what do you tell the person that's going to get deported before the election, that this was made in your homes of saving a democratic senate? >> well, that's not the reason. a couple of things that i want to say about immigration. number one, i have been consistent about why this is important. the country is going to be better off if we have an immigration system that works, that has strong border security, that is -- has streamlined our

legal immigration system. the best and the brightest who want to stay here and invest here and create jobs here can do so. their families can be unified and a system where millions of people who are here in many cases for a decade or more, who have american kids who are our neighbors and oftentimes our friends, have a path to get legal by paying taxes and getting above board, paying a fine and learning english if they have to and the good news is, we have bipartisan support for that. >> chuck todd, good to see you. a big day for you and a lot to talk about. shall we start with the immigration question, which is really creating so much buzz this morning. as a matter of fact, a lot of the immigration advocates are calling it a slap in the face. the president had promised to do something about immigration unilaterally when he came back and the end of the summer. by taking this off the political table, isn't it in a way putting

it back on the political table for elections that are less than two months away? >> very much so. potentially, he set up a criteria you'll see later in the interview about what it's going to take for him to take executive action. he said the politics did shift. he did admit politics was involved in the decision. he ed is, it is not about senate races. it was the politics of what happened, the change that happened after the surge of undocumented children that surged the border back in the summer. he did acknowledge the political shift there. he said, he has to have a little more support behind him with the public if he is going to take executive action, which you find fascinating. you are right. if there is a republican senate, does he think the politics are going to have shifted on immigration after that with a republican senate to do that? that it isn't going to be a tougher political decision and a tougher political fight if he attempts to do this. so i guess he was in the proverbial rock and a hard place. you had a guy like mark pryor,

the democrat in arkansas, begging the president not to do this. so they caved. >> you and i had off-the-record discussions with among others, the white house. a lot of people are saying a lot more democrats that won't go on the record off the record were begging the president to delay this decision. you think regardless of what happens in the senate, he is going to act forcefully after the election? >> i don't know. i don't know if he is going to do that. we'll see. it depends on the makeup of the senate, democrats survive, which don't. the irony is six months ago, some of the same democrats that were begging the president six months ago were begging the president to put this issue on the table. there is a little bit of political whiplash between senate democratic leaders around the white house. with the president's approval rating basically below 40 in almost every one of these senate

battle grounds, i think the white house thought it had no choice but could cave. >> let's talk about isis overnight, more strikes in iraq by the united states armed forces. do you think the president is getting closer to homing in on the policy he should be toward isis in syria? >> i think that's the meat of this interview. we spent a lot more time on isis than i had planned going in. he clearly does have a strategy. he clearly knows he has to share that strategy with the american people and the u.s. congress. you are going to hear a lot more detail about how he thinks he can go after isis in iraq and syria. there is a reluctance about how to go about doing it in syria. there is an acknowledgment he has no choice but to do it. who is going to help america do it? >> chuck todd, thanks. we'll all be watching. don't miss "meet the press" today. jenna has a look at the top stories today. hi, everyone. shelling overnight near the u

xran yan port city of a mri ol. it flaired up hours after vladmir putin and petro poroshenko agreed their truce was holding. the peace plan was intended to end a five-month conflict between russia and you krin that has killed nearly 3,000 people. we turn now to the ongoing search off the coast of jamaica where a small plane with two people on board went down on friday. so far, rescue crews are coming up short. mark potter is in jamaica with the latest on this story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jenna. at first light, the search for the missing plane resumed in the waters behind me. they are working a large search area that keeps shifting because of the currents. all day yesterday, a jamaican defense force helicopter and coast guard cutter were on the scene trying to find the plane but found nothing. they fear the plane and the debris may have sunk to the bottom in waters more than a

mile deep. on friday, they saw and photographed what they believed was an aircraft debris field but ships sent to that area were unable to confirm that sighting. there has been no sign of the victims, larry and jane glazer. the u.s. embassy in kingston is in contact with the glazer family keeping them updated on the status of the search. jenna? >> mark potter, thank you very much. a french journalist held hostage for months in syria has identified one of his captors. he says it is one of the same men that imprisoned james foley and steven sauk wa, both beheaded. he said his captor was medi n moush, who killed four people back in may. the claims have not been verified and his lawyer has reportedly questioned them. we have an update on the medical condition of an american

doctor that contracted ebola. he is very sick and weak but has slightly improved since arriving at nebraska medical center on friday. he is the third american to be flown back to the u.s. for ebola treatment. the u.s. open men's final is set and it is novak djokovic and roger federer, who will not be in it. big upset yesterday. jap's kai knee shi corey and marin cilic will play. kn nishikori beat djokovic and cilic claimed victory over him. we will see caroline woz knee key face off later today. thank goodness, the nishikori

quickly. that was a big concern out west where the heat is on. we have this ridge in the jetstream. another hot one including the pacific northwest. temperatures will be about 10, almost 15 degrees above average topping out in the 80s and 90s. same story for tomorrow. it is very dry. that is going to increase the fire danger risk, specially across parts of the interior pacific northwest. we will have to keep an eye out for any fire that develops to spread rapidly in those type of conditions. elsewhere, it is going to be much, much nicer in the northeast. we have lost the humidity. we could still see scattered showers and storms in the southeast and gulf coast. that's a look at the weather acro good morning. 6:16 is the time. low clouds and fog in san francisco. even delays at sfo this morning. you'll notice high temperatures are coming down just a little bit. san francisco, right near 71 degrees. even in the north bay. not near 90. closer to 80. . that will be the same for the

a local area hospital as a precaution. following up on a costly san francisco fire earlier this week. a busy street is still closed as crews continue demolishing a building. they spent the day slow slly disassembling the building brick by brick after a fire wiped out a neighboring home. no word on when mission street will be back and open to traffic. now although the 49ers are on the road opening the season in dallas, there was still a football game at levi stadium this weekend. tens of thousands of soccer fans watched the highly anticipated match between mexico and chile. that drew nearly 70,000 fans to levi stadium. from the big crowds at the field, it's the next big performance test. and it wasn't just another test for the traffic flow either, which has been much belined in earlier events.
