day. i have your weekend forecast coming in just moments. first i want to say good morning to mike inouye. >> light flow of traffic, some construction on university, all the way down toward the shoreline. we're talking about no delays for 101 or 280. over here we looking at the tri-valley from the 205 all the way back to you. >> in south africa, a judge has just cleared oscar pistorius of

murder. the judge said there were just not enough facts to support that pistorius was guilty of premeditated murder. course was adjourned for lunch but we should be reconvening any minute. we'll of course bring you additional details as soon as the judge reveals more of her verdict. >> mike had mentioned this moments ago. all lanes on 280 are back open after a deadly crash. it involved a wrong-way driver. the crash happened just after 1:00 this morning. the car heading north in the southbound lanes hit another car. it's not clear which driver was killed. >> well known 49ers radio announcer ted robinson will miss the next two games after making insensitive comments about ray

rice's wife janay. he's been ordered to undergo sensitivity training. earlier this week he said that janay rice is partly to blame for not speaking up. the 49ers say the comments were offensive and are in no way reflective of the team's opinion. the 49ers are taking swift action, management is holding off on mcdonald, their defensive end. he's expected to be in court to face charges next week. the ray rice case has shined the national spotlight on the nfl. many groups are calling for the

resignation of lead commissioner roger goodell, especially when the league reported that goodell received a copy of the date five months earlier. the nfl has hired robert mueller to conduct an independent probe of the issue. there is no word if goodell will be there sunday night for the taken's home opener. laura? >> thank you, sam. today is a significant day we will never forget. 13 years ago today the deadliest terror attack on u.s. soil occurred. we have a live look at new york city now where a memorial now stands for the thousands of men and women killed when terrorists crashed two planes into the twin towers. in just over an hour will be a

moment of silence in newark when the plane hit the south tower. several of the passengers on board flight 93 were from the bay area. a vigil i was held last night in shankville where the plan crashed. passengers tried to take control of the flight before it crashed into a field. today there will be a special tribute for the passengers and crew who died on flight 93. their families will be presented with congressional medals this morning. the park service is working on a memorial in the field where the plane crashed. >> and at 5:46 this morning, all vta buses and trains will stop and drivers will observe a moment of silence in honor of the men and women who died.

>> and in san francisco, a bell will ring later this morning to remember the people, including emergency responders, who died in the 9/11 attack. at 10:00 this morning, there lab public smeen ceremony at sugarv landing park. >> this morning lawmakers are reacting to president obama's primetime speech last night about how the united states plans on dealing with the terrorist group isis. the president announced he's sending hundreds of more troops of iraq but says, quote we shall will not get dragged into another ground war in iraq. the troops are to support training. critics say air strikes but no ground troops is a tricky

strategy. >> they're in a combat situation. to say they're not is obviously untrue. >> another key foundation of the president's plan, he has authorized air strikes in syria. they've already been going on in iraq. he's expanding the scope. president obama insists the u.s. must destroy isis to keep america safe. >> it is 4:37 right now. thousands of people who get their insurance through blue shield want a piece of the luxury box at levi stadium. today they will deliver. a blue shield spokesperson told the chronicle last month a box will be used to interact slougs with large membership groups and won't be available to the company's executives for personal use. >> authorities believe they have

killed the mountain lion that attacked a boy earlier in week. the cats did played aggressive behavior after a dog chased it into the tree. it will undergo the full dna analysis to make sure it was the cat responsible. it will also be tested for rabies. >> today the san francisco growers association will vote on whether to sell the flower mart to kilroy reality. today stephanie chuang talked to

limit outdoor activity but the heat will help you. 97 in the north bay, 86 on the east short and 98 in the tri-valley. we're not even done climbing yet. tomorrow we're going to peak. we want to check your drive. >> you're talking about the tri-valley being pretty hot here. right now 580 moves smoothly. this is westbound. the other side of the roadway eastbound, that's light for construction crews. look at your maps on the right side of your screen. you have a greenville where there's a construction crew. there was a little slowing just for the time being. on the upper east shore freeway, the smooth drive a little slowing. we typically see that overnight. i think there's a crew there that hasn't been put into the

you're watching "today in the bay." >> good morning to you. it's 4:44. more than two weeks after the napa earthquake, the first death is being reported. lori thompson was in her recliner when the quake hit. a television fell and hit her in the head. she ended up with a large black

eye but she told her daughter she felt okay and she decided not to go to the hospital. the next day she collapsed and suffered a seizure. she was rushed to the hospital and died the next day. experts say if you suffer a head injury, get to a hospital as soon as possible. >> good words of caution there. police in san jose are looking for three men who burst into a home and pistol whipped a woman inside. the homeowner said a man hit his girl friend when she started screaming. they said another robber was armed with a knife. they took money and jewelry. police hope security cameras can help them track them down. >> courtney reagan is live at

weekends. i always miss breakfast by three minutes. >> they can't reserve the phrase brunch, just mcbrunch. >> lake michigan waves reaching up to ten feet tall proved too much for one kayaker. a lifeguard steps in. can you see surfers swim over to get the kayaker on a board but he let goes of that. finally surfers get the kayakers back on the board and he safely makes his way back to shore. >> i just caught a good surf wave and was riding it it in and another diagonal wave came in from another direction and took a little beatdown. >> he's okay. still riding the waves there. there have been more rescues on lake michigan than any other great lake this summer, a little trivia in case anyone asks. >> a lot of good samaritans coming to the rescue there.

you might want to find a little cool spot to recreate today. >> yeah, surfers don't tend to know when kayakers enter their turf. it's a good idea if you see those big waves to stay away. our pacific ocean, it's hard to predict sometimes. whenever we issue a small craft warning, take heed. you just doesn't want to mess around when you get choppy out there. this is what we're working on for today. as we get into your afternoon, it's going to be warm. if you have things you need to take care of outside, the sooner the better. for the peninsula today, you are going to be in the upper 80s and you're going to rise up to about 89 degrees for your high for today. temperatures are going to be really warm. even in the spots where we don't typically get this heat, maybe
