check out that gorgeous bay area weather this final weekend of summer. good morning and thank you for joining us. we have a look at the micro climate forecast and rain in forecast. >> it's hard to believe we were shopping yesterday and i passed by an aisle of umbrellas. >> i have to find mine. >> we're definitely talking about rain and impressive rainfall amounts especially in the north bay. get ready. get the umbrellas out and find the rain gear. we're looking more and more promising to see this activity by the latter half of the week. we'll be looking at clouds and fog few the first half of the day. it will clear after about noon at the coastline. it will be hazy with moderate air quality for today. showers are ahead and motte just a couple of showers but could be looking at several days of rain wednesday, thursday and even friday as well. this is excellent news. we can see we'll be looking at

rainy activity. not for today. you'll notice temperatures and skies looking very typical this morning. 60s and we have clouds and fog. later on this afternoon 70s and 80s across the board. plenty of sunshine. we'll talk about how much, when and where when we come up in our next report. >> nice to see the rain drops on the camera. welcome sight. >> it is. day one is in the books and neighbors are giving rave reviews for the beyond wonderland concert in mountain view. last year police received more than 100 noise complaints but so far this year the complaints are down dramatically after the first day of the two-day show. nearly 20,000 people are expected to attend. the two-day music event kicked off yesterday afternoon. people in the neighborhood say they are pleasantly surprised about how much quieter this year's concert has been. police say so far there's only been two noise complaints.

compare that to 140 last year. >> there were smaller stations and they repositioned the speakers so they are pointing inward than out ward. >> much noisier last year. a lot of boom and thumps. the dog was hiding under beds. >> mountain view police tell us it's not just the decibel levels that are dropped at this year's show. tighter security and more officers on patrol have cut the number of arrests for drugs. shoreline amphitheater has seen its share of troubles. someone shot and killed a man. it happened backstage at a concert featuring wiz khalifa. police made six arrests after the shooter but not for homicide. vrj any t . new details about a bold, sexual assault on the middle of a busy street.

police say this is what the two men look like. they are described as hispanic men in their 30s. the attack happened tuesday. in san jose. the girl was sitting at a bus stop when two men in a white or silver van drove up, dragged her into the van and sexually assaulted her. they dropped her off a few blocks away. residents cannot believe it happened in the middle of the day. >> i'm surprised that nobody reacted to it, nobody tried to stop them. honestly, it's not the first time i hear of crimes in the neighborhood. this may be the most egregious that i've heard but it's not the first time. >> police say the crime happened in a high traffic area and they are asking anyone who recognizes the suspects to give them call. a san francisco man is under arrest this morning after a woman was hit and killed trying to cross the street. it happened in busy chinatown just before 10:00 on saturday morning near the stockton street

tunnel. emergency crews responded to the area and descrisaid the woman d the scene. the tunnel was closed for three hours during the investigation. neighbors say that area is a challenging place to cross the street. >> for old people it's dangerous. >> why? >> because they can't walk fast. >> what do cars do? >> they don't stop. >> we're going to make a determination as to what signal lights were green and if there was a red hand up. on some of the blocks on stockton street the light may be green but the hand is red. >> the driver was identified by police. police are still asking witnesses to come forward. police in richmond are searching for the suspects involved in a deadly double shooting. it happened at the same

apartment complex riddled with gunfire on thursday. two men were shot and killed last night in richmond. it happened about 5:30 p.m. on fourth street and bissel avenue. one victim died at the scene. the other showed up at the hospital but later died from his injuries. at the same location thursday night someone fired 40 rounds into an apartment building and car. neighbors say they are fed up with the violence. >> i don't care if it's a turf war or people are fighting over gangs or whatever. i don't know what's going on. this last week it's been mayhem. >> no one was injured in thursday's shooting but police have not arrested anyone in either case. they believe both shootings were gang related. clean up is under way after a fuel spill in the san francisco bay. the coast guard says it does not know how much has spilled or how far it spread. officials received a report at 11:00 yesterday morning. they found it it was coming from

the s.s.jeremiah. we're tracking a developing story on the devastating king wildfire. crews are mired in an all out assault. air tankers dropped nearly a half million gallon of fire retardant last week. cal fire calls that a record. more than 82,000 acres have now burned since last saturday. that's about twice the size of oakland. several homes have been destroyed but so far team vs be have been unable to get an exact number. >> the winds were 38 miles an hour and certainly that magnitude of fire can kill stuff. >> flames scorched an additional eight miles of terrain. more than 12,000 homes remain

your time now, 7:1037 let's give you a live look outside. going to be typical weather. we'll take you over to san francisco now. that's from emoryville with oakland back there twinkling in the left corner of your screen. yesterday a man drove up to a barricaded gate at the white house, refused to leave and was arrested. this came less than 24 hours after a man scaled fence and made it into the white house before being apprehended. it's raising the question how secure is the home and office of our commander in chief. >> reporter: it's the second arrest at the white house in two days. this time the secret service says a man tried to drive his car into a barricaded entry at the complex. he was arrested when he refused to leave. >> everybody out. >> reporter: it comes less than 24 hours after man jumped fence

at the white house, ran the length of the north lawn and entered the first family's residence. >> it's absolutely awful that a person could penetrate the residence at the white house. >> reporter: the first family was not at home. president obama and his daughters leaving for camp david minutes before the breach. the former secret service special agent says that may have been the reason the man was able to get that far on to the grounds. >> that's where the majority of the resources were. they didn't have chance come back north and they had this jumper get closer than usual. >> reporter: director julia pearson order agents. the location of this vinl's arrest at the white house is not acceptable to the secret service and will be closely reviewed. >> we'll need a complete investigation explanation of what happened but even more importantly, what steps they're going to take to make sure it doesn't happen again. >> reporter: a white house spokesman said president obama has full confidence in the

cuddly as this one. >> at the beginning she was very shy. she would stay in her crate. >> reporter: it's by some stroke of fate where trisha begins and ends each day. >> she's very friendly. >> reporter: with this rolling ball of unconditional love named gem. >> she has a lot of energy. i think time has gone by so quickly. >> reporter: she adopted gem around the beginning of the year after hearing her tale. >> i guess i departmenidn't abo. my reaction was i'll take her. >> reporter: now she has her own facebook page and a whole new life. >> her personality has come out more. everyone is really surprised. she's so big. >> reporter: she looks much different than she did last december when she was discovered in a trash bag rolling down a conveyer belt in the trash facility just a few feet from what would have been a fatal plunge. >> now i feel like it's my dog. like this happened to my dog.

>> reporter: though she works in an office job at recology she had never seen the facility. this week she wandered over. >> when you see when they dump it and pick it up and dump it. >> reporter: she saw the mountains of trash where she was dumped, the prehistoric looki i loaders that scoopeder up and the violent shaper. the place where worker gregory foster saved her. >> that's the best part. she has no idea. >> reporter: the visit was are reunion for workers who fell in love with gem and the chance for her to meet the hero, gregory foster. >> greg saved your life. >> i wouldn't recognize her. >> she didn't look like she was going to make it. she doesn't look like she was going to make it. i saw something moving in the bag. >> she that this very feisty personality. >> to see she's doing so well

those can strike new fires. kind of a catch 22. we're expecting another repeat performance. more showers are expected in this area. unfortunately, more lightning as well. here at home we have the morning fog. the clouds will be with us until noon. kind of like what we saw yesterday. here is a live look at san francisco clouded in right now. if you live in our inland valleys, you'll see it sooner like 10:00, 11:00. we do have moderate air quality once again because of the fire and showers are ahead. wednesday, thursday and friday you'll notice the scroll your honor seven-day ticker for each micro climate ticker. the north bay is expecting to see the rain first. that will slide down the coastline into our inland valleys as when he had toward thursday into friday. just cloudy skies for the most part. a little bit of sunshine and the north bay but temperatures today are coming down just a little bit. i was in south san jose yesterday and it was so hot.

i looked at the readings and we only got into the lower to mid-80s and it felt even warmer than that. today not going to be as hot but under the sunshine with full sun by this afternoon. it's going to be sweltering. one of the hottest will be the tri-valley. san francisco very comfortable. right near 70 degrees. we have moderate air quality in effect because of the fire that's burning in the upper levels of atmosphere. i showed you yesterday the winds pushing it across the bay. keep in mind if you have toot outdoor activities you'll want to limit your time. we are tracking our next rainfall. notice today, tomorrow things looking pretty good. we'll be dry. as we head towards tuesday, look at san francisco. temperatures start to fall off as well not only in san francisco but all across the board. wednesday that's when the first showers will arrive across the kn north bay and in san francisco.

we'll see skies cloud up. thursday is the day everybody will be looking at shower bas activi activity. tomorrow and tuesday there will be a system to our north. it's going to cool us a off. the computer models as we talked about last week are very finicky. they could have rain in one model run and rain out. this has been very consistent with the rain activity pushing in. wednesday night the north bay you'll start to see it. san francisco same there as well and the santa cruz mountains thursday morning is when everybody needs to be prepared for the shower activity and quite a bit. we'll be talking about a bit of a soaker. the santa cruz mountains you have three quarters of an inch. you'll notice the inland valleys going to be squeezing out a little moisture we'll have left because of the rain shadow effect. you'll notice up in rosa about more than a tenth of an inch. it's not a lot but it's

beautiful sights, it had to be one of the stranger ones. as strange to see as it was to be part of. >> i was like this has got to look ridiculous. it's so uncomfortable. i'm dying of heat. there's some serious chafing going on. >> how's that? >> reporter: the day was august 24th, a sunday. bill along with his son aaron and about a dozen other members of the scuba squad dive club based in scotts valley were spending the day diving the waters of monterey bay off of lovers point. it was after his last dive of the day that bill got a signal something was up. >> i pointed it out to him and i was like what is that? why are there dead fish attached to a buoy. >> reporter: it was her job to stay on shore and watch after

her fellow divers which is why she noticed the two men, a couple of spear guns and a whole bunch of fish they shouldn't have been catching. >> i was emotional. you know in is a protected area. >> there's big signs up. >> they started walking toward their car. we see if we can get a picture of their license plate. >> reporter: they continued walking up 16th avenue. here is where things went to the responsible to the slightly ridiculous. for the next half hour the two poachers led bill, all still in their wet suits on a mile and a half slow speed walking pursuit through the streets of pacific grove. >> it would have given you pause to go what. >> reporter: the approachers split up at one point trying to shake bill, but no luck. they had to return to their truck where a department of fishing game warden was there to greet them. >> it was neat to see the team work together the way they did

that funding on october 1st. hundreds of people gathered in the east bay to learn about an infectious polio like syndrome that's developing in california. about 250 people attended the conference. organizers expected about 100 people. the high attendance shows this is a growing concern for parents. the disease has affected over 20 children in california so far. the symptoms are especially concerning. >> they're very similar to polio. they don't know how to treat it. they don't really understand where it's coming from. is a very frightening thing. >> polio is an acute viral infectious disease spread from person to person. in about 1% of the cases the virus enters the central nervous system and can lead to muscle weakness and paralysis. he says it's a good idea but governor brown has decided to veto two bills that would

mandate diaper changing stations in men's restrooms. it would have required public places to create an equally accessible changing station when constructing a new bathroom or making renovations to an existing one. governor brown says he would lever the matter of changing stations to the private sector. after months of uncertainty about who afghanistan's next leader will be, tothday the two presidential candidates agreed to a power sharing deal. the incoming president will work with the president who will hold a newly created position of chief executive similar to the role of prime minister. the deal was signed three months after a disputed presidential run off that compromised the country's ongoing security with the withdrawal of foreign and u.s. troops. the white house released statement applauding the

park. your time now is 7:40. after getting shut out in friday's opener in san diego, the giants were looking to turn things around and gain some ground on the dodgers last night. we go right to the nineth. san francisco down 3-1. blanco quickly changes that. with the time run just 90 feet away brandon crawford's flies out to the left to end that come back. the padres hold onto win 3-2. san francisco remains three and a half games behind the dodgers for the division lead. the a's looking to build off of friday's victory over the phillies. for oakland it was not in the cards. philadelphia only needed a run despite scoring three to turn back the green and gold's offense. they had kplacommand of this on from start to finish. they shut out the a's 3-0.

two major state ballot propositions on insurance company regulations and medical malpractice were once considered shoo ins. now they are on the brink of defeat. we explain this sudden turn around. the numbers have shifted pretty dramatically and a lot more people in the undecided column. >> yeah. these two ballot initiates, proposition 45 which would put hems insurance rate to regulations and prop 46, which would increase medical malpractice limits. they have both seen dramatic

drops in public support. check out these two field polls just taken two months apart. you've seen something really go down. as the proposition is beginning down, we've seen the undecideds go up. that sets things up for the possibility that people will move into the no column. they had a 41-lead at one point. if history is a guide, and it usually is with the undecideds, it means their votes will swing to the negative. there's therein proposition 46. take a look again. a changing voter sentiment on this proposal. we see what's happening again. the support has gone down dramatically. at one point it was almost 60%. now we see a drop. with that drop we see the undecided go up. what happens is we see once

again, we see a shift toward the negative. the shift towards the negative goes on that means the likelihood of defeat grows considerably. >> we're looking at a time period of july 1 to august 28th. that's a relatively short time period. what do you think accounts for this sudden change in voter sentiment. >> the short answer has to do with increasing voter awareness as the information becomes more and more aware to people. ma makes them more and more aware. the long answer has to do with the cloud of money. money is king. these two issues have drawn the ire of major interest groups and have poured phenomenal amounts of money to oppose them. we're talk about health insurance companies, the largest con tributers to the no side. they out spent the yes side. in the second we're talking about the medical community.

the largest sector in fund raising. these are very lopsided differences. >> we have seen a lot more ads as well on our air and everywhere else. the campaign messages are getting out. we know with campaigns money talks. how significant is the cash when it comes to these state ballot campaigns and does money win? >> it doesn't always win but it sure helps. there's no question about that. because money gbuys voter attention. opponents spent only $80,000. only $80,000 against $50

million. >> is that some sort of record. the proposal was defeated. it's always worthwhile in the end for voters not only to read the ballot propositions. they're awful to read but don't always read these things. you want to look beyond them. you want to see who's scofor th things. who is against these things. it helps you figure out how you want to vote. how i want to vote. along with raising a few eyebrows it may make us a lot more informed in the voting process. the idea is to learn as much as we can beyond these television commercia commercials. we know how skew and one sided they are. we've got to find ways of figuring out what these things are all about. >> absolutely true. that language isn't always easy to digest. in these ad what is we're seeing is they're picking out one

thunderstorms. we had lightning and we're expecting a repeat performance. that's some good news for the firefighters. here at home we're just waking up to clouds and the typical fog that we see. it's going to linger through the middle part of the day at the coastline. we're starting to clear out in our inland valleys. we'll see hazy sunshine because of moderate air quality. it's because of that king fire burning in tupper levels of atmosphere. as we head toward this upcoming week we're talk about our next chance ouf showers. today's high will be very comfortable. come down a little bit from where they were yesterday. san francisco low 70s. east shore you'll be right in temperatures. tri-valley we're expecting mid-80s. south bay is another warm day there. let's take you into what we're tracking on our next five days. temperatures cooling off as we

head towards monday and tuesday. that will be our first system that comes through. it's going to be a dry system. we won't see rain but by wednesday and thursday that's when we'll see our first shot of showers especially for the coastline and north bay for wednesday and thursday everybody's going to be looking at rainfall. here is the deal about this system. it's still a few days away. it could still change its mind. they will update as the event gets closer. monday and tuesday the first system will move through. that's not going to offer any rain. by wednesday morning the system will be lined up off the coastline. i think our best chance for seeing showers wednesday will be along the santa cruz mountains and at the coastline through san francisco and up into the north bay. wednesday night is when the shower activity will arrive for everybody. that will continue through the day on thursday with a few lingering showers into friday. we may be talking about a few days of rainfall. this is an estimate. it's not gospel. i showed you this earlier. it showed an estimate of how much we're expected. more expected in the north bay
