target syria overnight. >> and a watery mess on a bay area highway. flooded lanes backed up traffic early this morning. >> we'll give you an update on the traffic in that area, as well as the closure for the off ramps in san francisco, which is likely to affect the entire bay bridge. >> and the time for boots and scarves has officially arrived. maybe not just yet. it will be mild for the first day of fall but we're counting on showers within the next 36 hours. lots to come this morning in your microweather forecast. >> hopefully it's enough to wash your car this morning. it is tuesday, december 23rd on "today in the bay." >> a wonderful tuesday morning

to you. thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. we begin with developing news overseas. new video reportedly showing the aftermath of u.s. air strikes in syria. they are targeting targets in syria and key allies are joining in the raids. kris sanchez joins us. >> reporter: the pentagon says the u.s. and five air powers went over 20 targets in the self-declared capital of isis. this were launched from the "uss george h. bush."

the pentagon says the targets included isis headquarters, fuel stations, weapons depots and training sites. meantime the israeli army said today that it shot down a syrian aircraft that crossed into its airspace. that aircraft shot down near the golan heights. >> this morning a syrian aircraft infiltrated israel's airspace. our patriot air force defense mechanism intercepted the aircraft and we are currently reviewing the incident. >> back to the u.s. ambassador in syria, a monitoring group there reports casualties on the ground, though the u.s. did warn syria's government that u.s. jets were on the way. again, we will hear from the president himself in about an hour. we will carry that live. but we'll also hear in the next 40 minutes or so how u.s. lawmakers are responding to

those attacks. >> we of course will continue to follow developments in the middle east throughout this newscast. we'll go live to washington, d.c. to find out what president obama is doing to gain support from more world leaders today. >> also developing this morning more evacuations are under way near pollock pines as crews worry that wind gusts up to 35 mile-per-hour wind gus-- miles could increase the fire. crews say a strong gust of wind is all it could take to blow the blaze out of control. now thousands of firefighters including some from the bay area are working nonstop to get that fire under control. right now it is currently 18% contained.

>> people who live near the fire lines are finding ways to show their appreciation for crews who have started the fire. people have set up banners so customers can come in and sign their names and show their thanks. even the youngest of residents are offering up their appreciation and some sweets. >> what are you going to do with the candy? >> give it to a firefighter. >> this is the most hospitable community i've ever been to. >> this morning the county board of supervisor will meet to discuss its aid to vallejo, whose damages topped $5 million

alone. and they'll meet to fix the district attorney as buildi-- district's building. >> and the folsom, it is being closed for six months. stephanie chuang is live with the news. >> reporter: we'll told that's 15% of the traffic for the ramp here. can you still use fremont. that's still open. joining us live is liz rutco. tell us about the overall project here. >> the overall project will take this curved folsom leg, making it paramount to the fremont leg.

it's nor about going around a right angle than a curve. >> this is for pedestrians. so impact for local businesses pretty good? >> that's correct. there's a lot of development going on in the area. and all that will bring in a lot more pedestrian traffic. so we're going to be fighting a traffic signal and crosswalk across the ramp to enhance pedestrian safety in the area. >> overnight they had closed the ramps, fremont is back open. they're going to put cement barriers in tonight for folsom. what's next? >> what's next is to get the site prepped for the construction to first come in and take down the fencing that you see, put up new fencing around the larger site to incorporate the ramp. then they'll start demolishing the ramp. they'll be taking off the pavement and demolishing the road. that will happen next monday.

>> thank you, liz. we're told the project did take a little longer because there was a two-year hiatus when redevelopment agencies were shut there. tonight there will be cement barriers put in there. we'll have more details in our next hit in about 45 minutes. live from san francisco, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> thank you, stephanie. >> all lanes on 101 back only after a flood was caused by a broken sprinkler. two northbound lanes were closed so crews could clean up the water. the sprinkler quickly flooded the roads. it's unclear why that sprinkler burst. we talked about the folsom street off ramp. in the meantime what does that mean for drivers? >> it's going to mean a lot of

slowdown for all the drivers. you do see a little slowdown north of willow. there are no lanes closed in the area but i will keep track of this because it does look a little slow at the top of your screen. it's toward treasure island westbound with those taillights. once you get past the tunnel, folks, you should start shifting over to your left. harrison street is the best alternate for you. we don't want any last-minute lane changes. folks may dart back and forth. over on the bay bridge toll plaza. we do have fast track lanes moving. they're trying to keep that bridge moving. the maps will show you nothing really dramatic as you're approaching the area. the off ramp is closed for the

next six months and it's slowing into san francisco off that upper deck, nothing unusual, nothing of big concern, christine. we have dry roads but you have changes in that area as well. >> we're going to be doing a little traffic and weather together, especially on thursday mornings in the heart of your drive. we'll be tracking that right here on "today in the bay." it's tuesday, first official day of fall. it's going to feel more like summertime. we're getting in this pattern where we have the fog coming in. our days are getting shorter. 60 degrees in concord, 61 in san martin. waiting up with 60 degrees, comfortable here in san jose. the warmest temperatures will be in the tri-valley. 78 on the peninsula, not a bad

welcome back. a second grader in connecticut back home one day after a fox attacked him on his school playground. >> the fox bit 7-year-old evan on his wrist and ankle. he said he didn't see it coming. a gym teacher ran to help him and the fox turned on her. >> my teacher like got it off of me and then i just got up and ran away. >> she was being attacked as she was trying to get the fox off my son. so i'm very grateful for her. >> brave teacher, a school psychologist, also bit before trapping the fox under a recycling bin. wildlife officials shot and killed the fox and are testing it for rabies.

syria and bombed isis targets and they didn't do it alone. tracie potts joins us. >> reporter: it expanded to include five arab nations in the region. jordan say they didn't just help the u.s., they sent their own fighter jets in and hit some of those targets as well. we are waiting in 30 minutes to hear from president obama. he's going to talk about this here in washington before heading to the united nations for most of the week to try to convince other countries to get involved. as for that overnight campaign, the pentagon tells us there were 14 targets hit, 47 tomahawk missiles used plus fighter jets and bombers. they're releasing new videos this morning showing fighter jets taking off from an aircraft carrier in the arabian sea. a senior white house -- senior administration official is saying syria did not get much of a heads up that this was going to happen. they had warned syria beforehand that it was imminent, that it was the intention of the u.s. to

firefight firefighter. >> and it's a day where we could really use some rain and concern about strong wind conditions battling those fires. >> both. first we'll see the wind. that typically occurs whenever we have a front moving into the bay area, kicks up that instability. so for the next couple of days, we're expecting some pretty strong wind gusts in the area of pollock pines where flames are burning. we're talking about gusts that could rapidly change the direction. whenever you have a land mass, it tends to slow the wind down. up in the higher elevations, you don't have as much friction and the wind can whip.

like. it will be widening in both directions and a crosswalk with traffic signals to improve the safety walking around here. the project managers say this be montana so i'm going to cross the street here, this is going to be another development here. everybody is really going to benefit from the revitalization of this area. >> there are ways around. here a map of other routes you can take. one popular option would be the harrison street exit. you can also use the fremont street offramp with two left turns on howard and connect back to folsom. demolition is set to begin on this wall on monday. as to when it's all supposed to be complete, the new ramp is expected to be done in the february to march window with the entire project, as well the crosswalk and traffic signals set to be done in the late march
