area of low pressure slowly but surely tracking towards the bay area. you're going to see clouds increasing steadily all day long as a result. temperatures are going to be comfortable because we're still on the warm side of the front. but then once it comes through, we're going to see cold days ahead compared to what we've been experiencing. 64 degrees in south bay now. waking up with mid-60s across the board. balmy out there, you can feel the moisture coming in. 81 the high later today. this is going to come in 3:00, the warmest time of the day. not counting on shower is in where to the south of the golden gate bridge until we meet back here tomorrow. 70 in san francisco. rain moves in later. i'll time the system out to your doorstep and let you know how much expecting where you live. you might be impressed. some cities will get quite a bit of rainfall. we'll talk about that coming up. hi, mike. >> you say balmy, sounds pleasant, but you know, it's humid. over there, we're looking at dublin, smooth drive.

>> a lot of people as well want to check the forecast now with meteorologist christina loren. let's see. you need to buy sunglasses, umbrella, everything. >> you know we are in that transitional period. and you know we could still see an indian summer. i'm not going to rule that out though we've got opportune chances for rain starting this evening. let's start with what's happening right now. mainly cloudy this morning. a blanket of low clouds. keeping that heat in from yesterday. temperatures as a result are in the 60s this morning. it's really mild out there. 66 degrees on the east shore. 64 peninsula. 64 to kick off the day in the south bay. we have showers coming in later on today. not expecting anything heavy until overnight hours. temperatures are going to be warm. as a result, we're on the warm side of the fronten let's talk about the front and the timing. s throughout this evening, between 5:00 and 8:00, expecting first activity in sonoma county. all will push to the south

throughout tomorrow morning. here's the question mark, are we going to tap into the subtropical moisture? this is going to be the difference between a half of an inch of rain and maybe nothing at all here in the south bay where we always get that rain shadow effect from the santa cruz mountains. at this time the forecast for the south bay, not looking that great. but, hey, we could see generous totals in the north bay. i think we could see more than .6 in places like ukiah, hopefully the blue will move into the north bay and end up with a half inch to an inch in higher elevations, mount st. helena. overall, temperatures are going to drop off. clouds will increase. it's going to feel like fall through the weekend with normal system on the way for next week. we'll talk about that coming up. lots to go over. back to you, sam and laura. >> thanks so much.

commute direction. it's starting to stack up. towards airway boulevard for west 580. over on the other side of the screen out of the altamont pass we also have the build for the traffic flow. that is continuing to be the normal commute as well additional slowdown approaching dougherty, word that the construction crews should be cleared up in the next five minutes but we'll track to make sure that does happen. traffic flowing better. as we look at rest of your bay, looking at bay bridge toll plaza, for example, where we get back to the maps i'll show you more, but the bay bridge toll plaza showing backup in left lanes. looks like one of the lanes is not yet open and that's a problem for at least these folks off of the maze. no problems off the curve or freeway. this crash, eastbound 24 as you're approaching the lafayette off-ramp. no problems as far as speeds. watch the slow lane. folks heading toward the wall net creek interchange anyway. we'll stick with the maps.

oakland, 880 past the coliseum fine right now. but there's a midday game, 12:35, that means midday traffic flow through the area. heading to the a's game, take b.a.r.t. system, no delays now, but it's a good option to get to the coliseum, coliseum station, great option to get into and out of the city. no major problems. that folsom street off-ramp closed getting off the upper deck into san francisco and barriers up now, i'm told. that may be a visual distraction, folks wondering what that is, closed through next march for the road work and the changeover there. south bay, san jose for a live shot here, and northbound 101 moves smoothly. no issues for silicon valley. santa cruz mountains moving smoothly as well. we'll send it back to you. >> wonder if navigation's going to get used to that change until march. our maps have it in there, i talked to the folks at wsi.
