play short stop but will play a role in each game to thank the fans. as world leaders continue to take on isis, the fbi is learning more about the number of americans believed to be fighting along site terrorists. one recent reports claims there have been more than 100 americans who tried to head to syria. the fbi says there is only about 12 americans actually fighting in the region. the fbi is also saying it now knows the identity of the man seen in isis videos beheading two american journalists and a british aid worker. neither the man's name or nationality have been released. great britain is still considering what role it will play in the war against isis. a short time ago, prime minister david cameron spoke in front of parliament and asked for lawmakers' approval to join u.s. led air strikes in iraq. >> left unchecked, we will face a terrorist caliphate on the shores of the mediterranean and bordering a nato member with a declared and proven determination to attack our country and our people. >> meanwhile, u.s. led air strikes continue in isis

controlled areas of iraq and syria. military leaders say several small oil refineries have been crippled in the strikes, and more will be targeted in the next few days. we get more from nbc's chief foreign correspondent richard engel from the syrian border and nbc's bill neely in northern iraq. >> reporter: an alleged isis oil refinery, destroyed by an american air strike. one of at least 41 bombings against isis in syria in 24 hours. but isis isn't stopping. a website backing the group released video claiming to show isis fighters firing heavy weapons at the syrian town of kobani. it's home to 400,000 kurds. if kobani falls, it will be a humanitarian disaster. these refugees from kobani are determined not to let that happen. these men have decided that now is the time to fight isis. while the u.s. is carrying out airstrikes, they want to be the boots on the ground, and many of them don't expect to survive.

the u.s. has been looking for ground partners in this war, these men, encouraged by this action, are taking action to defend their own country. richard engel, nbc news on the turkey/syria border. this is bill nealey in irbil northern iraq with kurdish troops who have isis on the run. they've retaken hill tops held by isis, destroyed their vehicles, cleared them from villages all with the help of u.s. air strikes, this one on an isis position in the last 24 hours. on the front line they show me the isis target they'll attack next. the kurds are weary, battle hardened, but in need of heavy weapons, then they say they can drive out isis faster and for good. bill nealey, nbc news, irbil, northern iraq. so how worried should somebody way riders are be this morning after an ominous claim by iraq's prime minister yesterday? french and american agencies

insist they have no information about an alleged plot to attack subways in the u.s. and paris. however, at the united nations, iraq's prime minister said captured islamic state militants told intelligence agents about such a plot, but according to a senior obama administration official, this is the first time they're hearing about this. as world leaders meet this week at the u.n. in an effort to reassure the riding public, new york's govern, the city's mayor and police commissioner each rode the subways yesterday. attorney general eric holder is stepping down and now the big question, who is stepping in? according to politico, at least two of holders are rumored successors have already said no thanks. that's massachusetts governor devil patrick and sheldon whitehouse, both democrats. during yesterday's announcement, president obama called bittersw. in an article titled why holder quit, thrush says holder is leaving unarguably the highest

i'm sure his classmates feel the same way. in convenient i cvenice, ca rescue caught on tape. a woman was asleep when she heard someone break into her home, she rushed out on the roof and called police. turns out a homeless man had broken in and actually followed her out the window to the roof. a short time later, the fire department arrived with a ladder and police were able to get the woman down. suspect soon followed. he was arrested and charged with burglary. moving on to weather now, nbc meteorologist bill karins is here with what is shaping up to be a perfect friday. >> nice day. coast to coast, traveling, not many airport problems whatsoever. everybody is pretty mild and if not hot. and yesterday was 97 degrees in montana. well, we did deal with that little bit of rainfall in california. yesterday, officially, at the san francisco airport we picked up about .42, almost half an inch of rain. we didn't see much of this

moisture make it any further south than that. look at the water, different imagery than we usually show you. this shows you the moisture in the air. we have what we call a trough moving through the west and that's what sparks showers and thunderstorms over the upcoming weekend in the inner mountain west. may see a sprinkle or two in the northwest. in general, if you get heavy rains over the weekend, it will be shifting through the rockies, through mountainous terrain. areas like salt lake and billings and casper, temperatures will be falling and chance of showers and storms. we're looking at a really nice end to the week, especially sunday, really from everywhere, all coastal locations especially. that's your national northern nevada go, that's where you have the chance of afternoon storms next three days. so in the west, in the inner mountain west, the least ideal

>> trooper sean groubert shaot and injured a young man as he got his license he was told to do. he said he fired because the man dove head first back into his car. a bishop was removed yesterday. he promoted a priest under him who was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior. meanwhile, a separate priest in pennsylvania was arrested yesterday accused of sex tourism. he allegedly traveled to honduras to have sex with children while promoting missionary work. and why is the state of kansas getting money from a sex toy sale? an adult store owner owes $160,000 in tax debt. so the state seized the business owner's merchandise and they will go to auction. most of the money though will turn into kansas revenue. time to get down to business. there is great news for drivers. by the end of 2014, over 30 states could be seeing gasoline under $3 a gallon. chrysler is recalling

football, redskins/giants, both tied with 1-2 records at the bottom of the nfc east. eli manning finds larry dunle in the end zone, three times in the half, making fantasy owners very happy. they lead 24-7 at the half. third quarter, second and goal. manning finds rubin randell in the end zone but the ball gets knocked out and into the hands of the redskins. the giants get the ball back with an interception of kirk cousins. manning with four tds for the night as they improve to 2-2 with a victory. to college, texas tech took an early lead against oklahoma state. that doesn't last long as oklahoma state fires away to get to the 45-35 win. the more accusations are being made against the nfl regarding the ray rice domestic assault. the associated press is reporting a law enforcement officer sent the elevator video of rice hitting his fiancee to the league's security chief in april. jeffrey miller released a

protest watch became violent. chief jackson was marching with protesters when a scuffle broke out behind him. four people were reportedly arrested. some other stories we're following today. deputies in south carolina are investigating a shooting between two alleged burglars. witnesses told investigators this man, anthony jeffcoat, shot his accomplice during a fight over items they had stolen in recent home burglaries. a woman in maine, she got quite a surprise after rescuing a baby turtle. turns out the little guy has two heads. >> needs two worms. >> the woman named the turtle frank and stein. wildlife biologists say two headed turtles are uncommon but not unheard of. >> they're normal around nuclear disasters. >> they are found in the wild. and remember the guy who raised $55,000 so he can make potato salad? well, now he is turning his kickstarter campaign into an entire festival calling it potato stock 2014. it will take place in columbus, ohio, and the event will feature
