>> i was a little concerned about the message there. i was fine. we're going to get to that a bit later on. we want to talk about the story everyone is talking about now. ebola. there's been a lot of late developments in the scare that's made its way to the u.s. thomas eric duncan has now been down graded. his condition is critical. he came from liberia to dallas this morning. and dr. rick sacre is back in the hospital. he has what appears to be a respiratory infection. doctors do not believe it is a recurrence of ebola. on saturday a scare in the air, a man who had traveled to west africa began vomiting on a flight from brussels to newark. passenger were forced to stay on board while medical workers tenned to him. federal health officials say it's not ebola. the nbc news cameraman who

contracted ebola in liberia is coming back to the states today. we're also talking with dr. nancy snyderman. we're going to talk to mark potter. >> by listing thomas eric duncan in critical condition, authorities are saying now that his condition has worsened over what it was friday when he was said to be in serious condition. family members in north carolina said they have been told by medical authorities here in dallas that he is on both a ventilator and dialysis machine and being given experimental drugs. the family had been speaking to him by phone from tuesday through friday but when they tried again on saturday they were told that he can no longer speak because he had been intubated, but a medical source tells a dallas tv station that

even though he is on life support, that the fact that he is young, age 42, means that there is some hope for his survival. meantime the family of four that he had come here to visit, according to a local pastor, includes a woman he was to marry, has been moved to a gated community. items from the apartment are being taken away for disposal. health officials are monitoring 40 people who may have had contact with duncan. another nine people who had known him for sure are being closely monitored and including the four family members, but so far none has shown any signs of ebola. back to you. all right, mark potter. thanks very much. meantime, the nbc news freelance cameraman was

diagnosed with ebola as we know. he is leaving the country today and headed back to the united states for treatment. our national correspondent is outside the omaha medical center where he will be treated. good morning. >> he will leave today on a specially equipped plane arriving here in nebraska tomorrow morning. this one of the places in the country with expertise in how to treat ebola. >> inside, his bed is ready and waiting. the head of the biocontainment unit they learned from their recent treatment of another patient. >> we are leerng about it as we go. we have all the special equipment that we can bring in here to deal with somebody in an isolation unit and the results in the u.s. have been better than in africa. venttle and nbc spoke to the

camera this morning and said he's in great spirits. he worked on this story on tuesday to work with dr. nancy's team. thursday, he tested positive for ebolaful because they were near him, dr. nancy and others on the nbc team are taking their temperatures three to four times a day. they are all feeling fine but are under self-quarantine just in case. >> my suspicion he was infected before we met him. >> he may have been infected when he was helping ebola. >> he was helping folks spraying down a car. >> he wrote this on his facebook page. man oh, man i have seen some bad things in the last two weeks of my life. how unpredictable and fraught

with danger life can be. his parents say he was committed. >> he wanted to go back and write about it and film about the impact that the ebola epidemic and decided to risk his health and see if he can make a difference. >> his dad tells me that the family will arrive here later tonight. meantime, he is 33 years old and healthy and robust, so doctors say he has a very good chance of being able to fight off this deadly disease. >> that is a very good thing to here. >> we want to point out tonight on nbc nightly news that kate will walk us through the biocontainment unit where he is being treated. >> dr. thom freeden is the director for centers for disease control. is that a typical

progression of ebola? would you expect a patient to get worse before they get better? >> we're very concerned about his elingt. ebola can be a very severe disease and that's why it's so scary because unfortunately even with the best of care, a large proportion of patients may die so we're really praying for his improvement. can fight the infection. >> you pointed out this disease can be fatal. we have seen that in africa. to this point, all treated in this country have survived. that speaks to the american medical system. do you expect as this goes on,

we'll lose folks here? >> time will tell. we certainly hope every person is proetected and every person that gets it recovers. it is a severe disease. even though the best care is given, sometimes it -- the outcome is not what we wish it would be. >> how rapid is your learning curve on this disease in terms of treating in this country? one patient was given blood from dr. kent brantley, antibodies. are you still experimenting with treatment? >> well the key is that >> this is why it's so challenging in africa. even six balancing the fluids in somebody is quite hard. you have to measure them, and tie traiting them to the right level. it's a very severe infection. that's why we're so careful. that's bhie we make sure we can

stop it in its tracks. >> thanks for coming up this morning. >> thank you. >> with here, here's erica. todd is moderator of meet the press. good morning. >> good morning, erica. >> as we are talking about this ebola crisis which has gripped a lot of people. i noticed a tweet you sent out yesterday. you are convinced the public concern about ebola is the issue of the trust in government. is there something that something that health gses are working on as well as the policies and procedures they have in place? >> i think they are finally thinking and working on it over the last few days. on friday, the administration did what they call a full-court press. they had heads of different agencies come out and talk about everything they are doing about ebola here in the united states and africa. the except tix that's out there about whether government is really on top of this, can they really trust that the cdc knows

what it's doing and stop it, you understand about the scem six skepticism, the secret service blunders, and three or four other, here at a memo, the government is trying desperately to stop a panic, because there's more panic than actual potential for this virus to cause problems here in the united states because of that erosion of trust, i think the government is having a harder time stopping the panic. >> you mentioned the secret service. the new interim head of the secret service is coming in and his job is to clean up the crisis that is there. you saw a number of different -- in your years of the white house, a number of different administrations to go through. different heads of secret is service. did you see any changes at all in that branch, in that body? >> what i've seen over the years is frankly an agency that is spread very thin.

the tri-valley you'll see highs climbing pup for the rock and roll half marathon starting off in the 60s. by 10:00 into the 80s. the thing to watch will be santa clara, levi stadium should see low 90s at kick off. prehydrate and hydrate during the game. you'll see the northwest winds easing off the temperatures a bit. >> some light clothes. thank you. a san jose man was hospitalized after being beat by robbers who broke into his home. the suspects are still at large. it all happened friday night in south san jose. police say around midnight two people broke into this home. officers say they tied up the victim and stole some items from his home. late saturday afternoon a friend stopped by, found his friend tied up and called police. friends say the victim, man in his late 50s was badly beaten. neighbors also tell us the suspect still on the run some fear they may be hit next.

enough, so the media decides i must be the killer. >> that's like real life. people go, he didn't grief enough. his cry sounded fake. >> people are racing to get coverage. internet makes it faster picking up what the last people wrote. even before the internet, richard jewel got his life screwed up because people convicted him early. it's the tragedy murder attention that happens on cable news where you need an update every 15 seconds. it's a tricky thing for us to try to manage. >> david fincher comes to you and offers you a role. you look at thele calendar and realize you are directing your own film. how did you handle that? >> despite the fact it wasn't sunshine and smiles everyday with this movie. there's dark stuff in here.

david is interesting. i knew as a performer, i've have the chance to pick up new trix. >> we mentioned you have roles under scrutiny. you're shooting batman now. first of all, are you getting good points at home with kids? >> i have two older girls and one younger boy. he's just figuring out what batman is about. if i was in "frozen," i would be king of the world. if i was elsa -- that's not the case. people said i was too old to play the part. i've had people come up hugely enthusiastic. i think both reactions are pretty irrelevant. at the end of the day, you do your job or don't. you come out to a movie people like. if they don't, you got the role
