at the golden gate bridge. look at the iconic landmark with the blanket of fog. let's check your forecast with rob. you were saying you were so relieved to see the fog. . >> really hot yesterday. we're watching low clouds starting to form again. low 50s down toward the lower locations where san francisco close to 62 degrees. san jose, hazy skies. look at the number here into the mid-90s which means levi stadium will see the temperatures approaching the low 90s as the game gets started with the 49ers taking on the chief. not as hot in san francisco. near 82 around lunchtime. i'll have a look at the cooling changes ahead coming up in a just a minute. thank you so much.

it was a glorious and very long chapter in giants history lasting 18 innings and clocking in at 6:27. it's a game fans will never forget. those are your san francisco giants returning to at&t park this morning. more about the game on friday. the longest game ended with the san francisco giants defeating the washington nationals. they are coming home up 2-0 in their national league division. they had fans cheering longer than expected.

hospitalized after being beat up by robbers who broke into his home. those suspects are still at large. it all happened friday night around midnight two people broke into the home. officers say they tied up the victim and stole some items. late saturday afternoon a friend stopped by. that's when he discovered his friend tied up and called police. the victim, man in his late 50s was badly beaten. neighbors are stunned. >> leave your parents at home and these are things that are happening. now it's a big concern because it's pretty scary. >> neighbors are still on edge. police have not released a description of the suspect. we have a follow up to a story we first told you about yesterday morning. san jose firefighters are investigating several fires that broke out within hours of each other friday night. those fires put a strain on crews city wide. firefighters worked for more than two hours to control the first fire that started at the

town home. it appears to have started in the garage caused by a gas leak from a car. firefighters then responded to a fire and another one on first street near willow. firefighters union president said the fires packed a department already struggling to improve response time. >> we have not a response time for the last 9 out of 12 months. why? we don't have enough boots on the ground. we had closed six companies a few years back. we've been able to add more staffing through safer grounds but we've been unable to open any of those companies that have been closed. >> five people living in the town home are displaced this morning. there's no injuries reported in any of the fire. a developing story and a turn for the worse for the dallas patient diagnosed with ebola. doctors now list thomas eric

duncan in critical condition. he went undiagnosed for several days. until now he was listed in serious condition. health experts say there are nine other people that duncan came in close contact with. they are considered high risk of catching ebola. >> we're confident that none of those with definite contact had any symptoms related to ebola. none of them had fever. we'll be watching that very closely particularly for those nine individuals in the coming days. >> several of those nine have now been moved to another residents where they will remain quarantined for another 17 days. some 40 others duncan encountered are considered low risk. so far no one has shown symptoms. a 33-year-old nbc news camera man will be back in the

united states today. ashoka along with dr. nancy snyderman and three other crew members will be quarantined for three weeks. he's been working in the region for nearly three years. fears of an ebola infection forced the cdc to quarantine a plane that landed at a new jersey airport this weekend. a 35-year-old man began vomiting. more than 250 passengers aboard were held on the plane for two hours as cdc workers in full has mt. suits removed the passenger and his daughter. >> they told us that someone was sick on the plane, but besides that they didn't say anything. they told us that the person vomited and that it was not airborne and the risk was low. >> what can i do? i'm on the plane. i wish they would have told us earlier not that it would have made any difference but just to be more informed.

after two shark attacks. the first victim involved in the attack says the only thing between him and the shark was his kayak. >> still in shock that it happened. just amazing that i'm alive. >> reporter: he went fishing the two of his friends. they were about a mile and a half from shore when his friends say an 18 to 20-foot shark sprung out of water suddenly pushed the kayak and launched him several feet in the air. >> i've been kayaking for ten years and i kayak twice a week. >> reporter: howell thought quickly and jumped on the kayak. he said it happened so fast he didn't have time to react. >> less than a minute. get me out of this water. i jumped on the kayak and got out of the water. the kid on the back tugging at the guy. >> reporter: howell called for

weekend. let's give you a look at san francisco from our san bruno cam as the sunrises this sunday morning. the latest cool in crime fighting could sit on the noses of police officers. police in dubai fight crime. the devices -- linked to criminal offenses and traffic violations. there were some big hitters in the south bay this weekend not just from technology but hollywood and the music world as well. they gather for a two-day conference. our business and tech reporter scott budman was there. >> reporter: music and technology is the theme of the tech manity conference in san

>> i think just creative opportunities. i think there's a lot of art in tech. that's what i see there's a lot of creativity in technology as well. whether i'm making a film, writing a song or working on start up, i see a lot of common ground. >> reporter: scott budman, today in the bay. dramatic photos from nasa are showing the toll the drought has taken on california for more than a decade. here is in a photo in 2002 but then it get worse. the second photo taken in 2008 reveals the loss of water with much of the water going yellow. by 2014 most of california is in red meaning a more severe water loss. the sacramento and san joaquin river basin has lost more than three trillion gallons during that time. doesn't look like we'll have much to help with the situation. the pattern now strong high pressure which has been making

it very strong temperatures into the 90s and low 90s around san francisco yesterday. we're seeing hints of a bit of relief. you're seeing it right there from the fog is trying to creep back in. around the coast you have the fog. the hill top still in the 60s and 70s this morning. cool start. 49 degrees right now. 59 in san jose right now. you can see that we've got 62 degrees there in san francisco right now. there is the view from our weather underground sight out at ocean beach where you have the foggy conditions. the east bay we're waking up to the temperatures in the 60s and 70s in the hill top. notice the south bay nice and cool this morning. low 50s for now. enjoy it. we think we'll see the highs again soaring in the mid to upper 90s this afternoon. arrows starting to point on shore in san francisco. that's very important as we head into the afternoon. it should allow the coast and the peninsula to run a couple degrees cooler today. the valley is still probably

seeing the numbers not changed a whole lot. we don't have a heat advisory today. that should tell you a little something about our weather. still 90s in the forecast. as the low clouds continue to thicken up as we get towards the evening and punch inland more so for tomorrow morning. that's when our temperatures across the inner bay and into the valleys will see the cooling. coastal clouds and fog not a great beach day but inland locations will start to benefit as the low clouds go further inland over the next couple of mornings. that's when the temperatures will really drop. today see a bit of cooling in san francisco. yesterday we had a high of 90. today looks like the low to m mid-80s around 11:00 to noon. we'll see the temperatures drop off heading towards the middle part of the week. pleasanton it will take longer for the temperatures to drop. notice lower 90s into monday and upper to mid-80s. the numbers will rebound again

next weekend and see some low 90s in the forecast. not as hot but high pressure is holding its ground. no sign of any rain in forecast over the next few days. san jose today near 92 degrees. upper 90s around saratoga and morgan hill. highs today in the 70s. you see san francisco running mostly in the low to mid-80s and dropping through the 70s as we see heading into the evening. north bay and tri-valley, highs in the low 90s. winds begin to shift out of south. that should bring cooling into the wine country monday into tuesday. you see the tri-valley still looking warm with the highs in the mid to upper 90s. san jose rock and roll half marathon should be comfortable for this event. it's happening in the morning hours. you have numbers getting into the mid-80s and probably approaching 90 around noon to 1:00. thing s heating up around

audit and a return of that you know. now we're asking who is being held accountable. cal train carries more than 50,000 riders a week. >> i make a living. >> reporter: after seeing the results of a recent audit ordered by the district attorney's office some riders are wondering if they are getting what they paid for. >> where's my money going? >> reporter: the audit confirmed what we first reported. for years they were stashing away cash in secret buckets claiming pfs spent on products and services that never existed. the money was set aside. insiders say to be used at management's discretion. >> you're saying thanks for giving me your money. i'm going to keep it and not spend it on what it's made for. >> reporter: it was inappropriate use of 2.5 million in funds. wrist l blowers first brought it to light questioning the hidden reserves. >> nothing gets hidden here. >> reporter: we asked about the irregularities last september.

graduating. we requested interviews with sam tran and cal train board members all declined. >> we have to make sure we do the best we can. >> reporter: it's been a year since the allegations came up. the only person who has been fired from the finance department, the accountant who first brought concerns to management. she was let go because of her performance and not as retaliation. >> i think something needs to change. the fact they can get away with something like that, it may not seem like a big deal but it is. >> they're still facing a federal whistle blower lawsuit filed by that employee who said she was fired after raising questions about these financial irregularities. the agency said it will defend itself. today in the bay returns in two minutes. a new job event focused on women. careers that would have them protect and serve communities on the peninsula.

machines. the san mateo sheriff's department is looking for a few good women. they held a symposium aimed toward women. the idea to recruit a more diverse class of cadets. >> we thought this was a cross section of the propulation that reaching out to educate that this could be a good opportunity, a good profession for you. it might be worth our while. >> the sheriff's office already had some women among its ranking deputies. according to the u.s. department of justice women make up about 13% of officers nation wide. home prices are up almost everywhere in the silicon valley but the hottest real estate market fits squarely on the peninsula. one real estate trade group finds home prices are up 24% year over year among other cities, rounding out the top

voters thanks to redistricting. >> yeah, about half the districts are new relatively speaking. the 17th district is strange district that stretches all the way through freemont down to campbell. democrats dominate the district. no question about that. about half as we said a minute ago. ha half the district is fairly new. that's where the challenger comes in. he's a young attorney who claims to reject the values of this new district covered, just covered with high-tech companies. >> we're talking about two democrats. remind us why we have two candidates from the same party in this case. >> strange to think of two people from the same party. that's california for you. look under california's new top primary system. the two candidates with the most votes in the june primary faced

each other in november. this time it happens to be democrats. take a look at the june primary. honda 48%. khanna, 28% the be result is republicans and independents out in the cold. on the one hand potentially able to influence the outcome on the other because they have no other place to go. >> definitely. you're just starting to pay attention, what are the characteristics between the two? >> such differences. honda has been a fixture for 35 years. first as a teacher then a county supervisor. for the past 14 years as a congressman. a typical traditional liberal. he's focused on education, immigration and the needs of the poor who quite frankly often go without any reputation.

not surprising he has support from organized labor. primary concern is making better use of technology in the valley and leveraging that technology in the 21st century. high paying jobs that will improve the local economy. he worked in the congress department under president obama which in another twist here supports mike honda. that said, khanna support from silicon valley executives. it looks to be an interesting race. >> what you see is high-tech ceo types putting a lot of money in. other the other hand you see organized labor loyal to some who has looked out for the poor and the average working person over the years. you have very different sources of support. no question about that. >> as we talked about november is just around the corner. what do you expect to see as the campaign enters the home stretch

thanks for joining us. we have a look at the rest of the forecast. a lot of vents happening around the bay area today. >> the weather will have a big impact. we think perhaps northeamost on 49ers. right now interesting changes taking place. the gateway to hose weather changes right now, san francisco you got the fog across the golden gate bridge. mild temperatures marine layer is squished down. it's below 500 feet. there's high pressure on top keeping the low clouds shoved down to the deck there of the golden gate bridge and across the waters west of the golden

gate this morning. 59 in san jose and a brisk 49 up there around napa. there's a look across the golden gate bridge commute. it's a tough drive but you can see the tops of the towers. the fog not very thick. we'll see it become more thick which will lead to more significant cooling like san jose. 59 degds. some of our temperatures around the east bay very interesting this morning from our microclimate data. notice in the hill tops still in the mid 70 ts here. that's classic sign we call a temperature inversion. warmer air on top. cooler air below which acts like a lid over the bay area. you might notice the layer of haze under the inversion causes what you see right there. when we get the strong sea breeze all these temperatures even out. we'll start to see that more so as we get into tuesday and wednesday. right now at least the arrows pointing in the right direction if you want to get some cooling

instead of strongly offshore we'll see the winds turn more out of the west and into the northwest direction into san jose into early evening. overnight we'll see those low clouds and fog making a return. by 5:00 becoming more widespread on the coast and moving locally inland as we head towards tomorrow morning and we could have the misty skies or drizzle with some of those low clouds. they are low to the grounds. some of those hill tops could get that here over the next several days. right along the immediate coast into san francisco but as the marine layer goes from below 500 feet it gets thicker as we get into tuesday and wednesday. that will get to the valley cooling. for the most part not going to see a lot of cooling. san francisco should drop about 5 to 10 degrees from yesterday's highs and the down toward trend the temperatures will continue into wednesday. notice pleasantton upper 90s today.

a slow but steady cooldown as we head towards the middle part of the week. today around san jose near 92 degrees. upper 90s. we'll see cooling around pacifica and over towards san francisco some 70s to low 80s. over towards the tri-valley again. that's the hot spot today and probably for monday too. you'll see the numbers lingering in the 90s. use caution if you'll head out to the 49ers game. kick off at 125. temperatures still in the 90s around 1:00. we should begin to see the temperatures over the next five days. we'll continue to see the cooling trend for san jose and san francisco. it will take a little longer for places like livermore to drop out of the 90s. check out pair of elephants wo are trying to find their way to beat the heat. there's liz and valerie. they are asian elephants.

the zoo workers say liz's favorite pool activity is putting her head right up against the water jet and spraying water everywhere. these elephants also like to do this what we call elephant snorkle. they roll under water completely and put their trunks out to get air. i don't think i've seen an elephant completely submerged like that. you might see the bubble burst this weekend for man on an em e epic run. he hopes to return his way around the bermuda triangle in an inflatable bubble. the distance, 3500 miles. the bubble didn't burst but his dream did when the coast guard had to rescue him from the ocean 70 miles off of the coast of florida and the reason he was rescued, no big shocker here, exhaustion. you're a big cross fitter. >> not that way. >> 3500 miles.
