there's fog across the bay. not the bay bridge, the golden gate bridge. the bay bridge may have low clouds as well. here, a smooth drive. on the deck, you're okay on the south side. san francisco side. look at maps, talking about the traffic and weather index, road weather index tied in with. system, orange with mill valley and along the coast, heavier fog, tougher to see, especially 101 at 37. light roll um around -- volume around the bay keeps things smoothly. westbound 580, good amount of traffic despite the early hour. crews cleared the westbound side. eastbound slowing out of livermore toward at altamont. new details about a deadly officer-involved shooting in san francisco. this happened blocks away from at&t park, near second and brine streets as the giants game concluded.

stephanie chuang is live. it started as car burglary investigation. what happened after that? >> reporter: good morning to you, sam. perspective, we're on alley, a few blocks away from at&t ballpark, that way. you can see broken glass and cars parked in the area, but even more so when there is a game. you can tell, of course, it's very quiet now but a different scene 9:00 last night. this is where officers saw at least three people in a car, casing the area. san francisco police say these officers who were assigned to the area around at&t park saw the suspects park their car nearby on the 400 block on brine street and break into a mercedes suv and go back to their car. they approached the suspects right then and saw the driver had a handgun. one officer ordered the driver to drop the gun but when the driver allegedly refused, the officer fired his firearm, hitting both driver and someone in the back while someone in the front passenger seat tried to

run off but police caught him on bryant just 50 feet away or so. the two hit by gun five were taken to san francisco general hospital where the driver died. the second suspect, who was shot, is expected to survive. investigators took the third suspect in for questioning. here at bryant street where the suspects parked their car police found the firearm as well as stolen property from the mercedes. for the of who fired his weapon, he has been placed on a ten-day paid administrative leave, standard protocol. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> last thing you want to hear coming out of a sporting event. for the second time in as many days, investigators say a man exposed himself to a young girl walking in palo alto. the latest incident happened near brian and seal yesterday, blocks from where investigators say a man exposed himself to a 14-year-old girl on monday. both happened blocks away from

the school, an all-girls private school. palo alto police say yesterday someone drove up alongside a 10-year-old girl walking her dog, and the driver asked the girl an inappropriate question through an open window and exposed himself. the girl ran home, and her parents called police. in both cases the suspect described as white man, late 20s or 30s with brown hair. monday's incident the suspect reportedly driving a newer blue pick uptruck. yesterday's suspect driving an old, white volvo four-door sedan. though the vehicles are different, they think there's a chance it was the same man. they've added more officers in the area and asking neighbors to keep an eye out for anyone acting suspicion. new this morning, a stanford professor won the nobel prize in chemistry, william moerner. he and his colleagues figured out how to enhance what you see with a microscope.

giving you the ability to identify a single molecule at a time. this offers a new way to see structure and functioning of cells. he was born in pleasanton and began teaching the stanford in 1998. he's going to share that prize with a german chemist and another american. >> what an honor. two men who police say are responsible for causing chaos in a walmart could enter pleas. cruz charged with attempting to use a gun anding ex-felon in possession of fi arm. investigators say the two were trying to shoplift in a san leandro walmart sunday when they were confronted by a security officer. cruz reportedly pull out a gun and fired several shots. both men were arrested. san jose state holding a meeting to let public know about recent developments with the task force formed after an

>> announcer: you're watching "today in the bay." 4:44 on wednesday morning. this morning, there's concern about american troops headed to africa to contain the ebola outbreak. the pentagon says, just over two dozen of the 4,000 soldiers headed to africa will have direct contact with blood samples tested for ebola. >> this is their primary skill. this is not a, you know, medical guys trained. this is what they do for a living the cdc reports outbreak is nearly contained in some areas in africa. a dallas patient infected with the virus is still in critical condition. health official says people who had contact with him are show nothing symptoms, thankfully, of the virus. santa clara county health officials preparing for the virus just in case. the health department is working with doctors and local hospitals

and checking patients' travel histories. they need to find a company to remove and transport infectious waste, also in search of places to live who may have been exposed to the ebola virus while quan r quarantined. bloomberg reporting the company symantec wanted to create two businesses. it comes after a slow year of sales. ebay and hewlett-packard made similar moves. symantec declined to comment on the report. san francisco's twitter has filed suit against the u.s. government. kate rogers live at cnbc world headquarters with details for us. good morning, kate. >> good morning to you. twitter is suing the justice department and fbi. the social media site wants to be allowed to provide more details about the extent of u.s. government surveillance programs and request for information on users from federal agencies.

this morning futures are higher after stocks fell sharply tuesday, as investors fret about slowing economic growth in europe and the impact that could have on corporate earnings. the dow suffers its worst day in two months and posted triple digit moves in 13 of the past 17 sessions. look for minutes from last month's fed meeting later today and earnings from alcoa. the dow dropping 272 points to 16719. nasdaq losing 69 to 4385. teenagers love to shop as we know but fickle buying habits can boost or burst retailers' fortunes. piper jaffrays out with the latest teen retail survey, finds that most kid own a smartphone, no surprise, but two-thirds have iphone and most are loyal to the apple brand, saying their next phone will also be an iphone. but few teens have a smartwatch and 16% are interested in paying that $350 price tag for the

east shore, 59. we're at 60. fog n. why san francisco. it's nice out there for today. here's the deal. we are going to boost that heat up for the weekend. and then completely different pattern to dive into as we head through next week. i think it's the one you might be looking for if you want rain. we'll talk about that in a moment. let's focus in on our beautiful day. you had to get through heat. temperatures comfortable for today, not a bad day whatsoever. 81 on the peninsula. temps going to continue to fall as we head through thursday. brief hot streak for the weekend. and as we head through next week, towards middle and end, pattern completely changes. we're talking about cold that we haven't had in months in the bay area and significant rainfall chances as well. so let me focus in on the weekend as we head through friday and saturday. temperatures creep up up offshore flow coming in. temperatures going to come up, dry out there, we're also going to see that fire danger

increase. as we head through next week, temperatures slowly drop back off. you can see here, 80 degrees on sunday for the blue angels fleet week, comfortable conditions in san francisco. notice seven-day forecast temperatures start to fall as an area of low pressure moves into the bay area. by thursday, 8:00, tapping up what we think we're going get in terms of rainfall totals. over a tenth of an inch in san jose. here's the kick, the following week looking act everybody where we could see three to four consecutive days of rain which could produce flooding in the bay area. just want to make sure you're aware, things are going to change. we have to wait for changes but i like to keep you two steps ahead of the game. we'll take a look at what the giants are in store for for the next game. back to you. >> thank you. teachers and staff at california state campuses will be rallying for higher wages. yesterday san francisco state faculty protested marking the 99th day without a new labor
