slaughter. welcome back from hawaii. >> hawaii has the humidity that makes it so much more tropical. it's going to be nice across the bay today. no humidity. it will be warm. if you are headed out to fleet week, temperatures in san francisco this afternoon will be summerlike. 70s, 80s and 90s across the rest of the bay area. dangerous fire winds return to the bay tomorrow. a red flag fire warning goes into effect tonight through tomorrow. getting a little bit of everything over the next course of seven days. you'll notice today's highs are very comfortable. in san francisco, 71 there away from the water it will feel toasty. 86 in the north bay. 81 for the south bay. 91 for the tri-valley. again, our inland valleys will be warm today, warmer for tomorrow. we still have a risk for rip currents we'll talk about and that rain. we'll talk about that in my next report. >> if you don't like the weather the next few days, there is

something different on the horizon. >> we've got it all this week. >> thank you and welcome back. an elderly man is dead following a house fire in hayward. two roommates and a neighbor tried to save the elderly man. they got him out of the home, but it was too late. two people were treated for smoke inhalation and were released. the third adult was taken to the hospital for burns. >> by the time guys got here, it was fully evolved. fire coming out all the windows and doors to the front of the house, which is where the victim was found. >> home has heavy smoke damage. the cause of the fire is under investigation. a developing story. bicyclists in san francisco are being attacked and robbed on golden gate park's panhandle. two cyclists were attacked on the path while riding late at night. the sf bicycle coalition said there were three vinyl

incidents. thieves hit riders over the head, stuck something in their bicycle spokes causing a crash and creating an opportunity to steal the bike and other valuables. >> when it's dark out, i'm not coming through the panhandle any more. i'll go down haig street. >> just before midnight there were two cop cars patrolling. >> the bicycle coalition is spreading the word about the attacks. as you heard, police are stepping up additional patrols in that area police don't have a description of the attackers, but tell us they do believe it is a group of people working together. >> a flasher may have struck on the peninsula while palo alto investigated three cases of indecent exposure. belmont police are looking at a case that may be connected. two women told belmont police they saw a man exposing himself yesterday morning while parked outside this pete's coffee. they tried to get a license plate but the flasher drove off in a newer model four-door bmw.

he is described as a white man in his 30s with short, dark hair and a clean-shaven face. belmont police are on alert and residents are disturbed. >> i'm sure it's not the fact he is in a beimer, but something is making him feel extra special that he is able to do things everybody knows is wrong. >> on thursday a woman in her 20s was riding her bike in palo alto and saw a man in his 40s or 50s stop his white bmw in traffic and exposed himself. earlier this week, two juvenile girls reported being victims of indecent exposure. the vehicle description has been different for those incidents. if you have any information, contact your local police department. a family dog attacked by burglars in the south bay happened yesterday on culpepper drive in east san jose. the homeowner told officers when he walked into his home, it looked like somebody ransacked it. he found his dog badly injured

and bleeding. he was able to rush the dog to a vet where it is being treated for severe injury. neighbors reported seeing boys in their late teens wearing baseball caps and hooded jackets leaving the home. the san jose police department is calling a time-out on police officers working for the san francisco 49ers and their offduty hours. it stems from the august domestic violence arrest of defensive lineman ray mcdonald. as nbc bay area reported earlier this week, mcdonald may have called a cop he knew to come to his home before officers and investigators responded to a 911 call from his home. that officer worked offduty with the 49ers as do more than a dozen other cops. the department wants to stop that at least temporarily. the police chief says he is putting a stop to what the department calls secondary employment pending an internal review. president barack obama is in san francisco for a whirl wind fund-raising effort. air force one touched down at

sfo yesterday afternoon. the president was met by a crowd of supporters. as you can imagine, protesters and even a few babies. he flew in from los angelesqgçko where he had attended two fund-raisers, one hosted by actress gwyneth paltrow. in san francisco, the president attended a soldout fund-raiser at the "w" hotel south of market street. attendees contributed between $1,000 and $32,000 to be there. obama is staying at the intercontinental. this morning he will attend an exclusive round table at a private home. 25 supporters are paying thousands of dollars to attend. the president will return to washington this afternoon. now to continuing coverage of the ebola scare. today, changes will go into effect at america's largest airport, jfk will begin taking the temperatures of passengers arriving from west africa. next week, newark, washington,

chicago and atlanta airports will do the same. the enhanced screenings will begin next week at those airports. an ebola scare on a flight from jfk to las vegas yesterday turned out to be a false alarm. passengers were quarantined after one who recently traveled to africa started showing ebola symptoms. the all-clear was given two hours later. this morning, scathing criticism directed at the dallas hospital where ebola patient thomas duncan died this week. when duncan first went to the emergency room last month, he had a fever 103 degrees and other severe flu-like symptoms. he told the nurse he had recently traveled from west africa, but despite that, he reportedly was sent home with only antibiotics. he returned two days later by ambulance. >> if you went to the hospital right now and your temperature was 103, no doctor would send you home. >> duncan's family is considering taking legal action.

mourners gather yesterday in san jose to remember a fallen hero. jeffrey hunt died tuesday when his cal fire tanker jet crashed as he was battling a wildfire in yosemite. hunt lived in east san jose. he is survived by his wife and two daughters. yesterday morning, federal investigators gave cal fire the green light for its planes to fly once the department grounded all 22 of its tanker aircraft in the wake of tuesday's crash. there had been concerns the crash was caused by a mechanical issue that might affect other airplanes. investigators have not yet determined exactly what caused that tanker to go down. >> it's 7:07 right now. we have much more ahead on "today in the bay." coming up, powering down. the faa says it's okay to use your electronic devices during take-off and landing, but flight attendants are trying to stop travelers from doing just that.

welcome back. it's 7:10. you are getting a live look outside. it will be a hot saturday and even hotter sunday. another live look for you at the beautiful waters of the san francisco bay. this is the navy's "uss america." it's here for fleet week this weekend. there is a new demand for passengers to unplug in the name of safety on airplanes. a union representing flight attendants filed a new lawsuit against the faa. they want to change that policy that allows fliers to use smart phones and gadgets during take-offs and landings. according to the lawsuit, that led to many passengers ignoring

emergency announcements by flight attendants. they point out one incident when a tablet nearly hit someone when a plane went through turbulence. being single can be tough, but there is an app for that. actually, there are many apps to make dating easier. do they help or hurt? we talked to one matchmaker who says it's time to step away from technology. >> match.com, e-harmony, there is one called hinge. >> reporter: amy anderson knows singles. she is ceo behind linxdating, that caters to the men and women of silicon valley. by the time they make it to her office, they tried it all. even the cruel world of hot or not on tinder. a technology amy says is getting in the way. >> they've been basing matches often or superficial metrics of hot versus not. >> reporter: she gets why people

to. two big games at levi stadium last night. not to worry. you didn't miss a 49ers game. the lights were turned on for high school football, an event delayed more than two months. today in the bay took to the field with the players. >> reporter: you see levi stadium on tv. these students athletes live right next to it. tonight they not only got to run on to the field, they got to play in the 49ers' home. >> it's awesome. it's a brand-new stadium. >> they've been talking the last two months about this game. >> a real moment for the players' parents. >> a dream come true for him and for me as a parent. my other son played last year. he's jealous about not being able to play here this year. >> the event called friday night lights. two days, four games. tonight wilcox versus santa clara. a self-made rivalry high school football with big-time plays.

the weekend forecast. >> it will be warm. anything you want to do outside, go for it. talking beach, hikes in the park, in the mountains. >> fleet week. >> that, too. >> good day to go outside. >> temperatures near 70 today. we've got fog right now. it's hard to believe it is going to feel like summer because of that fog. it will lift quickly though. when it does, temperatures are going to soar. today will be warm. tomorrow will be warm. it's all because of an area of high pressure that is positioned right across the pacific. this thing right here is going to start to drive our winds more offshore. you can see the clouds just to the north of it. then the rotation around it is bringing it clockwise. those winds are going to drive warm air across the bay area today. that's why we have a red flag fire warning that goes into effect tonight through tomorrow. even through monday morning. this is for primarily the hills above 1,000 feet. when you're talking winds gusting anywhere from 20 to 30

miles per hour, they are offshore winds, you better believe we are talking about red flag fire warnings. no outdoor burning over the next 24 to 48 hours. it's really the thing you want to hone in here if you are going to be joe you the door camping. if you are going to head to the beach this weekend, killer waves headed this way. we are talking waves tomorrow that could reach up to 25 feet. this is something you would see more so in hawaii, not here in the bay area today though, waves not as impressive, four to seven feet. still dangerous. rip currents a threat. keep an eye on the little ones and yourself. remember spf. today's highs comfortable. low warm in the valleys. 81 in the south bay. peninsula in the mid 70s. east shore low to mid 70s. in san francisco, it won't be overly warm, still comfortable 71 there. in the north bay, 86. of course our hot spot, can't forget about you and the tri-valley. 91 expected today. warm in our inland valleys.

not so bad towards the coastline. i want to set you up with what we are watching this coming week. monday a warm day. tuesday temperatures start to come down. you'll notice this system off our coastline. this is going to move through wednesday. it's going to be a fast-moving system. that's going to give us a little bit of rain for wednesday. then another system on its heels for friday into saturday. when this thing comes through, we'll have more of an impressive rainfall amount to look forward to. in the meantime, it is going to be hot today and tomorrow. i want to give you that quick recap. you can see by monday, temperatures starting off still very warm to start the week. 96 degrees. then by tuesday, we come down just a little bit back to 80. by wednesday with that chance of rain in the forecast, that's when temperatures across the entire bay area are going to cool back into the 70s. look how cool it's going to be. talking about 20 to 30 degree drop from livermore and places like that that could be back to the low 70s wednesday, thursday and friday. very drastic changes coming our way.

done yet. their next stop is hollywood. today in the bay's garvin thomas has a story about special needs and special friends. >> reporter: john j. vogel knows a good story when he hears one. as a hollywood actor, producer and director, it's part of his job. but it is with his golfing partner on this day jacob price john has been living a good story going on ten years now. it all began not long after the two met at an event in lake tahoe when jacob began telling john his story. >> my story starts like this. the journey starts with me having mild retardation. >> reporter: the event was for special olympics where jacob is a gold medal-winning skier many, many times over. his success on the mountain though was not being matched in

india has the second highest number of facebook users in the world, but only 243 million people out of 1.2 billion actually have access to the internet. a new case of hackers obtaining thousands of intimate photos. this time the victims are snap chat users who thought the images would disappear. hackers say they captured as many as 200,000 photos and videos sent on snap chat. the images are reportedly being leaked online. snap chat says hackers did not target them. they say it was third party apps that let users send and receive snap chat transmissions. those stolen images are believed to be getting posted on the website that posted images of naked celebrities last month. i am so glad i don't use snap chat. attention k-mart shoppers. monitor your credit card activity after a security breach. according to parent company

pacific, we have winds offshore around this system. because of those offshore winds through the day today and tomorrow, we have a red flag fire warning that has been posted. we strongly discourage any outdoor burning. you want to make sure you do not do any burning over the next 48 to 72 hours because of this red flag fire warning. gusty winds, low humidity. that will mean for a perfect ingredients for fire weather. we also have big waves happening this weekend at area beaches. from san francisco down to san mateo county. 4-7 feet waves today. 12-18 feet waves tomorrow with potential of some reaching up to 25 feet. really keep an eye on the water if you are headed to the area beaches. santa cruz not going to see waves that big. it will still be warm. temperatures close to 80. you notice highs today very warm. 81 in the south bay peninsula. east shore very comfortable

there. 76. the one place that will get back to the 90s today, the tri-valley, low 90s. san francisco low 70s. north bay back into the mid to upper 80s for today. summerlike today and tomorrow. tuesday we have a system making its way into the bay area. by tuesday afternoon, if you live in the north bay, north golden gate, you'll start to see the rain first. tuesday night into wednesday morning, showers move through. they move out quickly. you can see by 10:00 a.m. the cold front is through here and rain is out of here. we will start to clear out for wednesday afternoon. friday afternoon, here comes another storm system. this looks more impressive. you see the trajectory more west to east rather than north to south. because of that, i do think everybody is going to get a good chance seeing rainy activity. not only for wednesday, but also for friday, as well. take a look at the dramatic changes. monday and tuesday warm across the bay area.

96 on monday. 80 on tuesday. with that chance of rain coming through wednesday, it's going to cool us off. we are talking low 70s for places that are going to be in the 90s. both tomorrow and monday. get ready for major changes coming our way. not only for the tri-valley, but for everybody across the bay area. look at rainfall amounts we are expecting by the end of this upcoming week. 1/4 inch in the south bay to 1/2 inch in san francisco. keep in mind these are estimates by computer models, not man-made. this could really change. we saw the past couple of systems we've got the estimates have been lower than what we have picked up. keep in mind, we could get more rain than you actually see here on the map. of course, more is good. we are in a drought and we could use the rain. unfortunately, we don't want it all at once. wednesday we'll get a shot and another chance for friday.

imagine if your boss told you you could break the law behind the wheel and if you got taught, they would pay the ticket. our investigative unit found that is what is happening with ride service companies like uber and lift. it comes a few weeks after san francisco district attorney threatened legal action against those companies. >> now we captured drivers on hidden camera telling us uber and lift told them they could still do business at local airports, something against the law if they get busted, the companies may pay the ticket. stand curbside and you'll see them. ride service drivers dropping off passengers at san francisco international airplane. >> are you uber? >> can i get a ride? >> drivers we spoke to say uber and lift told them it's okay to break the law. >> who tells that you?

>> uber. >> uber tells you it's okay to drop off? >> reporter: at san jose international airport, we found more drivers doing business without the proper airport permits. >> if you chill around the airports, lyft drivers. >> can't be here too long. >> the place are pretty hard. >> reporter: if caught by airport police and issued a citation for trespassing. >> uber pays it. >> i've gotten tickets $250 a pop. >> yeah, a lot of times they'll help you out. >> they shouldn't be operating at the airport. >> reporter: this woman from the california public utilities commission says state regulations prevent ride service drivers like uber and lyft doing business. >> what we are focused on is

safety. and also to let the airports create rules. >> those driving for ride share companies are not permitted to pick up customers at san jose airports. >> reporter: they are illegally operating. >> that is why we are citing them to motivate them to become permitted here. >> reporter: unlike limos and taxis, they don't have to wait in the folding area or pay airport fees when they enter the airport that. money pays for airport operations. >> i spent 25 years in law enforcement. >> reporter: former police detective robert gardner is a security advisor who worked with airports to improve safety. permits serves an important role. >> prescreening has been done. frees up security people to do more important security work. >> reporter: the investigative unit discovered since may around 1,000 warnings and citations have been issued to ride service

drivers for operating illegally in san francisco and san jose airports a closer look revealed some companies may be encouraging drivers to break the rules. in one citation, an officer writes a driver told him, "lyft would take care of any tickets issued by the police. the driver claims he warned them to keep the trademark pink mustache off cars if we go to the airport." another driver says they said dropping off is okay. uber tells the investigative unit, it's perfectly legal to operate at the airport. saying, "currently travelers can request any driver partner licenses to pick up passengers from the airport. we encourage travelers to open the app and request a ride." >> we have a lot of information that lead us to believe bad business practices are taking place. >> reporter: san francisco district attorney warned ride

talk about an angry bird. that is a drone plummeting to earth in massachusetts after being attacked mid air by a hawk. the hawk didn't take kindly to another bird invading its space. the gopro camera provides a great look as you see in slow motion. the hawk was fine and believe it or not, so was the drone. the owner of the drone says the craft was ready for another flight in no time. hopefully, they avoided that hawk on their next flight. >> he probably thought it was food or another bird invading his space. >> yeah. i have a gopro, but i don't have a drone. i keep it in my hand. >> thank you so much for making
