happening there. we've got high pressure and offshore flow, but that's going change throughout the day today. you see that clockwise rotation. that wind really warms up as it moves from land to sea and negates any sort of marine influence. low pressure comes in tonight and high pressure clears out as a result. the temperatures are pretty mild to start the day. we're in the low 60s. temperatures about 60 degrees on the peninsula, about 81 degrees on the shore today. on the peninsula, getting close to 90 degree, but not too bad especially when you keep things into perspective. tomorrow, a good 10 degrees. sit in the trivalley, but one more day of heat. tonight, you'll start to see the first changes by this evening. those low clouds rolling back in. and then the rain moves in as we head throughout tomorrow night. however, as we head throughout tomorrow, you'll notice those clouds increasing and the cold air moving into the bay area. at 8:00, that's when we're expecting our first showers to
6:50 am
move in to the knot bay. the bulk of the activity is anticipated here on wednesday morning and we are counting on kind of a rough ride to work. all of this moisture races off, fresno and the central valley, so that's good news and we have more on the way throughout friday. this friday system is kind of giving me a headache right now. the models are out of and on. i think we're going to get more moisture than what they're calling for, so we'll hold out of on that for now, but count on the rain to start out of. thursday and friday, ing the pattern changes again. here's mike and your drive. >> so, we're looking for a wet wednesday commute, but now, we're dry. look at that beautiful sunrise over here. a smooth drive down the east shore freeway. there's a crash west 80 at university, but should move quick ly to the shoulder. the north bay shows volume starting to increase. so, you know, a little light,
6:51 am
but visibility, no fog in the area. just a little bit of moisture and as we look at your maps, you see the area, only slowing is for west 37 and down through nevada. that's the build that's starting through the area. richmond center and the bay bridge is starting the build that volume. of course, we've got the back up at the toll plaza and no real drama for oakland. hayward, we have your traditional slowing down in toward union city for the southbound on the nimitz. the trivalley there, southbound 680 through pleasonton. no big, big slowing. we have areas for 87, 85 and 280 startsi starting to see the build. we got a report just north of here right around mckey of a crash that should be on the shoulder. that's the second one for the morning. this one looks like it's moving to the shoulder, but that might be enough distraction to slow these folks down back to you. >> all right. hopefully things will speed up at bart south bay extension hits a major milestone.
6:52 am
bringing with it some traffic. >> a welcome side, but let's not get too far ahead. what is the launch time for this project? >> we're talking about years down the road before you can take bart to san jose, but it also gets a little bit better along the way and today, the monday blues will be a little less orange for drives commuting here where the traffic has been reduced by one lane in each direction for about nine months now. take a look at the stretch of road where it has been narrowed down. first to two lanes in one direction, then in the other direction because when bart runs through this part of san jose, it's going to go on a trench below the road and as you mightagmight a imagine, that's a big undertaking. this is so that bart can go
6:53 am
under or over every intersection across the way. it is the first major road project in the $3 billion south bay bart extension. 16 miles of track between fremont and san jose. you can expect road changes today. capital avenue and millpedes is reopening, so some relief there. trade zone boulevard in san jose should be north. the reduction there is one lane in each direction an later on next week, all lanes will shift to the south. so you'll have to worry about congestion there. this bart an san jose project is moving right along on schedule and should start trans portding people, which is what they were hoping for, by the end of 2017. >> it is coming. thank you very much. >> places to go. pumpkins weighing nearly a ton are rolling into half moon bay. >> bob is sizing up the
6:54 am
competition and there must be a ton of pumpkins out there. >> brace yourselves. you ready to see what we think is going to be the largest? >> let's do it. >> unbelievable. jane's enter tri, she's from half moon bay. about 70 pounds. said it was a fluke, huh? >> this one was just thrown into the side of the garden. we thought we would see what happened and we got this beautiful pumpkin. >> going for the heaviest. that's the most beautiful. this would be for the heaviest. the pumpkin, not the man of course. >> oh, wow. >> what are you estimating? >> 1700, 1800 pounds. >> but you know your buddies are saying this could be the winner. maybe go over 2,000, which hasn't happened here. >> it would be super.
6:55 am
it would have to go some to get there, but anything's possible. >> all right. are you sandbagging? >> no. like i said before, i'm happy to be here. we were here last year without a pumpkin and having this one is fup. i'm not going lie. >> yesterday in europe, a man set a new world record for a pumpkin. over 2300 pounds. no one is expecting that to be broken here today. what do you think though would be the weight limit? do you think these pumpkins would ever get to a point where i don't know ha the weight would be, but where they just can't get any bigger? >> i don't know, for the first time, you're seeing people talk about 3,000 pounds. >> back in 2000, only 1,000 pounds. >> all's i know we need bigger toys. bigger tractors. it's going to get more expensive here pretty quick. >> best of luck to you.
6:56 am
if you look at the scale behind you, any moment, they're going start bringing these pumpkins out. you've got gary miller, defending champion. also from napa. me doesn't think his pumpkin is as big as it was last year. he thinks this one's going to be in the 1600 range, but you've got these four out here. another one in the back. good five contending for those top five places. whoever wins gets 6 bucks a pound and if there were to be a new world record set here again, that's highly unlikely, given the record was 2300. that person would get 30,000, so we'll know in about four hours what the new weight is here at the half moon bay pumpkin weigh off. again, it's never been at a ton here, so we're hoping to see the 2,000 pound mark broken sim later this morning. >> a lot of pie, bob. >> a lot of prize fighters. in this corner, we have bertha. >> and go out and see them later, too.
6:57 am
there is yet another new ceo at j.c. penny this morning. the company appointing an executive from home dee toe. >> the company has worked its way through several krrk eos. >> trying to undo the damage from the apple executive. they have been struggling ever since they brought in ron johnson. johnson tried to make it cool again, but it appears shoppers didn't want to be cool. he lowered prices a lot. he said let's stop having sales. we'll just have low prices. shoppers hated that. in a survey, i'm not kidding, they said they wanted high prices and then for those to go on sale. they brought back their old ceo. now, he's stepping down for yet another. they're up about 3% on that news. meanwhile, just when you were starting to enjoy the idea of using portable devices gate the gate, the flight attendant's union is going to court to stop it. it's mostly a safety issue

6:59 am
