overnight road work has cleared and west bound with the headlights. eastbound, same thing typical overnight slowing out of livermore and altamont because you're down to one lane. getting into the area southbound 680, a crash a short time ago. this is around san aramon. crash cleared to the shoulder. smoothly past the scene, fedex truck, moved over to the shoulder. rest of bay moves smoothly. we'll track towards the bay bridge coming up. >> we'll check back in with you shortly. a new rule going into expect, concerning which airports people can fly into concerning west african nations. right now, they can only enter the united states through one of five airports during special

screenings and fever checks for ebola, airports include kennedy, washington dulles, newark's liberty, chicago o'hare. after serving as two-time presidential chief staff, ron klain set to take over. he was recently appointed by president obama last week. also, on that news, nbc photographer who got ebola working with dr. nancy snyderman in west africa is free of the virus and could be allowed to leave the hospital today. he released a statement, saying recovering from ebola is a truly humbling feeling and he doesn't regret returning to liberia in september to help raise the alarm about the ebola virus. two u.s. nurses who contracted ebola are responding well right now to the treatment. one of the nurses, nina, has been upgraded from fair to good. wildlife officials are

coming to the defense of mountain lions amid increased citings in the south bay and the peninsula. last night, parents asked them to gauge the real threat of mountain lions roaming their neighborhoods. you have a significantly higher chance of being struck by lightning than being attacked by a mountain lion in an urban area. they're are not looking to relocate the lion but help people not attract them, they say. that means, telling people not to leave food out for the deer because the feed attracts mountain lions as well. and they say the most recent mountain lion sighting needs to be put in perspective. >> the video of the mountain lion on top of the car is misleading. that house is built into the hillside. the lion was -- could literally jump out of its natural habitat on to the car. >> since 1986, there have been 15 mountain lion attacks in the state of california. of those 15 attacks, 6 were

deadly but they all happened in state or county parks, wilderness areas and not urban neighborhoods. >> gives you perspective there. 13-year-old andy lopez remembered one year after being shot and killed by a sheriff depp tip the teens and shot after the deputy mistook lopez's air soft gun as a real ak-47. the shooting led to mass protests. no charges ever filed against the deputy, who is back on patrol now. officials did approve plans for a memorial park for lopez. today a memorial rally held at noon into pg&e testing out state-of-the-art technology, intended to inspect pipelines easier and faster. the test run starts at 10:00 on a street in south san francisco and it's being done by this pipeline robot. the robot travels inside the gas line and inspects condition of the wells. using new inspection method, the robot detects any defects

without the need to cut into the material or dig up the pipe. the new method is less disruptive to customers and reduces inspection time. in a historic move, more than 500,000 will be used to help defend immigrant children from deportation in oakland. city council approved the plan yesterday. 557,000 will be used to pay for legal aid for hundreds of children that have come into the east bay after violence forced them out of central america. alameda officials could add another half million for social services. in fremont, police ramping up their efforts to deter crime by using privately-owned surveillance cameras in people's homes and businesses. tonight, holding workshops to teach people how to install cameras at their home. police say private surveillance cameras were part of the reason for recent slight decrease in burglaries. they say they hope more people will install them and reduce crime even more.

officers wills answering questions about what kind of cameras residents should get. san jose home owners could be getting a break when it comes to making properties earthquake safe. city council plans to hear a proposal to waive permanencies and create other financial incentives. all to encourage people to seismically retrofit properties. officials behind the plan say more than 1,000 properties are soft story buildings which could pose a deadly risk in the event of an earthquake. >> people in east san jose are warned to not drink water. people in this neighborhood have been told to boil any water that they use for drinking or cooking. that's because water tested positive for e. coli. officials say the water's safe for folks to use for regular household purposes, like showering or washing clothes or dishesen it's unclear when the water will be safe to drink again. crews are now working to flush out the water main.

4:43. supporters of san francisco's independent paper the bay guardian will rally in the city today. it's the first wednesday without the weekly paper in 48 years. this is what the cover of the final issue looks like last week. bay guardian announced it would shut down because of financial issues. community leaders want to revive the paper saying it's a vital, progressive voice in the community. the rally held at noon at market street. a positive connection to d.c. 4:44 on wednesday. los altos woman honored at white house for her work in the community. barbara camm is a ceo of tech credit union, one of nine who receive the citizenship through business champion of change awards. this year the awards will be handed out to people who are helping immigrants become u.s. citizens and strengthening our economy at the same time. white house says she was selected because of her tremendous work and leadership. >> that's a nice thing. target making a major change

to try to get some of their customers back. plus, u.s. regulators are expanding a recall involving toyota's faulty air bags. kate rogers live at cnbc world head quarters with the headlines. >> good morning. u.s. safety regulators are expanding warnings about defective air bags made by takata to 6.1 million vehicles. urging owners of certain toyota, honda, nissan, subaru, mitsubishi, bmw, chrysler, ford, and gm cars to take immediate action, if they get a recall notice. the bags could rupture and spray metal shrapnel, and have been linked to at least four deaths. futures have turned lower, after a big rally for the markets tuesday. investors reacting to apple's good earnings and talk that european regulators mei lan. a new economic stimulus package. nasdaq had its best day in more than two years and first triple

47 around napa. 51 san jose. 58 degrees in san francisco. jumping right to today's forecasts. see numbers looking warm. south of downtown san jose, see numbers around, let's say, saratoga, los gatos, campbell, morgan hill. close to 70 around san francisco, palo alto. for the north bay, numbers in the low 70s and mid to upper 70s around the tri-valley. we do not have any rain now. there's a look at radar. up the coast, what you have, showers, up by eureka, north of ukiah for today, that's going to drop for the south around this time tomorrow morning which will be to our first chance of seeing rain returning as we get into thursday forecast. here you go, areas in the north bay, santa rosa, midday thursday. see a chance of rain coming on in. attention turns to what happens on friday morning. notice no rain but winds picking up out of the south as the system begins to approach. that will lead us to seeing

totals from friday night into saturday, getting close to a half inch, we think around ukiah. coastal hilltops may pick up a half inch or more, and numbers drop off as you get into san jose. most of this coming down after midnight friday into saturday morning. five-day outlook for the south bay in san francisco shows temperatures climb up, saturday morning, showers, notice by sunday, skies clearing for the second half of the weekend. for the north bay, different story now. beginning as early as tomorrow. see that rain north of santa rosa dropping south. during the day friday and saturday, showers there, cooler and showery to start the weekend and temperatures rebound towards sunday. the first half of the weekend, plan on seeing morning showers, that should shut down by the afternoon. by sunday, temperatures rebounding again as we see a drier finish to the weekend and heading towards next monday. >> gearing up for rain in the next couple of days. centers for disease control will update the nation on the

enterovirus d-68 outbreak. seven people have died after diagnosed with the illness. the cdc cautioning this does not mean the virus caused death, it was a link. 938 confirmed cases in 46 of the 50 states. a handful of cases located here in the bay area. >> we're safe? we are not safe, okay? i was a victim myself. there are so many victims here, okay. i don't want this to happen to other people, that's why i'm speaking out. >> members of the evergreen district, they want city council members to address their concerns over a spike in burglaries at their next city council meeting. last night they rallied outside the meeting asking for more police officers and substation in their neighborhood. the group claims there were 45 burglaries in all of 2004 and that last month that was double. san jose's most popular

staircase is one step away from getting a curfew. last night leader as agreed to move forward to keep the grand staircase closed from sunset to sunrise. it's a hot spot for work -- folks who work out during the day but at night, neighbors reported drug use and sometimes sexual encounters. they want the area changed from public passageway to a trail which would allow police to enforce the curfew there. for this to happen, an amendment will have to be approved in sacramento. >> see we'll see what develops there. san mateo county approved a ban on smoking around multiunit residences. it's amended a county ordinance to include e-cigarettes in smoking bans. the began goes into effect in 30 days. expanded smoking ban going into effect 14 hon months from now. you thought parking prices for the last giants game were

downtown san jose. early to get a good gauge of what the weather pattern is like now but we'll be checking in with rob momentarily. 49ers owner eddie debartolo could find himself one step closer to the pro football hall of fame. for the first time ever the committee will nominate two contributors for possible induction into the hall. contributors never played the game. debort toll low, one of 11 folks under consideration. they'll narrow down the list to two candidates. the inductee selected on the day before the super bowl, could be a big win for the 49ers. >> one of those deals you don't rest on winning game one. you've got to go out and, you know, put everything you've got into winning game two. >> peopling humble, right. giants gearing up for game two, taking nothing for granted das spi despite 7-1 win last night.
