this is "today in the bay." >> good morning. thank you very much for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. giants certainly anxious this morning. they know this time tomorrow their team could be world champions, our team. we have a look at kauffman stadium in kansas city coming up. game five starts at 5:07 tonight. they took off yesterday getting a good night's rest before the big game. >> eating big bowls of pasta ma maybe. who know what is they're doing. janelle, do you feel the wind in the air or is that just the air in kansas city? >> we had barbecue last night and we saw some of the members of the giants team so hopefully they had a hearty rest. it's do or die with the royals.

we actually headed out last night to the city's power and light district. that's supposed to be their happening, hip area, their entertainment district in downtown kansas city. 99% of the people we saw were tourists from out of town, new york, texas, the northwest. they didn't care one way or another about the giants and royals. we did find one lonely, dedicated giants fan all the way from alberta, canada. >> it's on the top of my list of things to do. >> your bucket list? >> yeah. >> it worked out perfectly. i had the whole week off and i was like why not? >> reporter: kate wore blue. she was in disguise. she didn't want to get heckled for wearing orange.

for game six the ticket cost $700, standing room on. game seven that ticket was more than $1,000. hopefully she won't have to spend that money because the giants will win. she came here with a co-worker but he's not into the giants so she's going herself. last night we also ran into our sports announcer john miller. we asked him about jake peavy on the mound. he's going to give us some thoughts. >> what a great place to be. giants fans who did not make the trip to kansas city can still get the feel of a big crowd at the big game. >> today the city has set up its own viewing party. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning. here at the civic center, because not only will we have

thousands of giants fans watching the game on a jumbot n jumbotron, but you're also going to have hundreds of concert goers attending the fish concert inside the civic center auditorium next door. it's going to be very crowded, the city advising you arrive early to get a viewing area on the plaza and they advise leaving your car at home because parking is going to be very limited. and also don't bring the booze. they'll have a zero tolerance on alcohol. they'll be citing you if they catch you. in 2012 you might remember this image of a novato man trashing a muni bus with a barricade, others set several fires. this time around you have workers cleaning the streets of debris so there's less fuel for a fire and sfpd will bring in other officers to patrol places

and certainly not very far from this high school. candles, flowers and kind words in memory. there are other questions this morning whether or not that kind of dump truck or gravel truck didn't see the teen. it looked like the teen was struck not on the front side of the truck but along the back side of the truck's trailer. >> we're going to go through his cell phone to see if he was distracted. >> one city councilman said perhaps creating some sort of shuttle services for students so they can get to school more safely. five other students this year have been hit by cars but this is the first fatality. >> we apologize for kris's shot

breaking up just a little bit. >> in santa clara county, the human trafficking committee meets today to try to help victims. at their first meeting in august, commissioners determined in order to tackle the problem, they needed to first figure out the number of victims. the commission includes advisers and leaders from several agencies, including the fbi, the district attorney's office and police departments. >> tonight mountain view city leaders will talk about raising the minimum wage. they'll vote on increasing it to $10.30 by next summer and raising it to $15 by 2018. they are expected to approve both ordinances. mountain view's current minimum wage is $9. everybody likes a raise. >> we do. we like to raise up workers enjoy that. so do folks looking for a little

it is 5:12 on your tuesday morning. the man accused of killing two northern california deputies is expected to make his first court appearance today. nanette, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, sam. authorities are still trying to decide what charges to file that left two california deputies dead. the man has apparently been living a quiet life in utah for a decade before the bloody case. it began when he and his wife were arguing loudly in a car in a motel parking lot.

the father said his daughter wanted to leave her husband. s a the policeman approached, he was shot in the head and killed. a pair of deputies tried to approach but they were shot with an ar-type assault rifle. s as you can imagine, the law enforcement community was devastated. several dozen police vehicles with lights silently flashing escorted a hearses a law enforcement officials hugged, saluted and wiped around tears. he had been living in the u.s. illegally after being convicted of selling drugs in 1997 and being deported twice. his wife is also expected to be in court today. prosecutors will announce the charges before the hearing. sam? >> wow, quite a history.

san francisco. the earlier mattress in the roadway has been cleared without incident and without any other follow-up issues for chp. west highway 4, we typically see the slowdown but there's still that crash between a street and hill crest. over here south 242, just before you get to 680, reports of a gravel truck. just a note for folks traveling there but 680 moves smoothly down to walnut creek and the interchange. and altamont moving smoothly into central valley and tri-vall tri-valley. that is the route a lot of folks take imminently to the peninsula. no big surprises on the south bay. just overnight road crews on 880, typical through that spot. palo alto, a live look here and the volume starts to speak a bit

just through the university. no beg deal as far as san rafael or novato. >> some disturbing news this morning. police investigating what happened to a man left dead on a busy newark street. it's still not clear if the man actually died there or if somebody just dumped his body there. police have not released the person's identity or the cause of death. >> it is 5:21 right now. $30,000, that's how much police are offering for information on the person who gunned down the mother of four. her husband raced home and called 911 but she died before help could arrive. police think it was road raej. the couple's four children rain age from 18 months to 4 years old.

>> i'm here, the joonts are here. they touched down and went to kauffman stadium, right here, for a light workout. we caught videos of the giants after their light workout. they arrived at their hotel around 9:00 p.m. last night at the intercontinental hotel. they're all staying there along with the giants executive team. the giants sports announcer also staying there, including john miller. he gave us his thoughts about jake peavy on the mound for game six. >> they like jake peavy in game six to come back strong. they couldn't have gotten into the postseason without jake

peavy, who in effect filled the role of matt cain. but the last couple of starts in the postseason, one against the cardinals and one against the royals he didn't look that good so you start to worry how much does he have left? he's an older guy now. hopefully he'll be able to find that little fountain of youth for game six and the giants will be able to have their big celebration. >> we also ran into gm brian sabean, who was heading out to dinner but was a bit too fired tired to talk to us. i justice department jon miller about this world series. he said it's been exciting so far. and i asked him are they going to pull out a winner? he said no guarantees. he reminded me of the 2002 world series where the giants faced off against anaheim. the giants up 3-2, just like this series, but they lost that

the fall commencement. the university announced bill maher would be the commencement speaker but because of controversial comments he made by islam, some students are trying to get him removed. >> people are still rebuilding after the napa earthquake and can now get help from the federal government. it was announced federal aid would be available to those whose homes were damaged in the quake. but residents were not able to apply for federal aid until the chang was announced yesterday. >> local animal lovers can learn about preparing their pets for a disaster. the east bay spca will offer training for emergency responders or be in interested in. >> the training takes place tonight in dublin from 7 to 9

p.m. >> the city of santa clara and several other agencies are hoping a deal in hopes of making levi's stadium safer. it's unclear how many officers and deputies the agreement would include or how much it would cost. >> bart right now looking for your input. is overcrowding at its too busiest stations in san from a? some ideas include a new side, platforms on both sides of the tracks, upgrading elevators and escalators and installing sliding doors next to the tracks. >> we want to check the forecast right now. if you're up and at 'em getting ready for the day, what will it hold? >> it's chilly right now. but we have quite a contrast later on at 3:00 when we hit our highs. that is 75, 76 degrees just about everywhere.

it was announced early this morning that she's leaving, she was being released today. she's going to make a statement but not take any questions. another case in maryland, looks like it may be a false alarm. the initial test has come back negative on that patient and on the 5-year-old child in new york but the doctor in new york is being treated. what's causing a stir is the nurse, casey hickox, who was taken straight from the airport to a hospital and isolated there. she put up a fight and threatened a federal lawsuit and now the new jersey governor is letting her spend the rest of her quarantine, 21 days, at home in maine. he said he didn't cave under political pressure, he said he did what he thought was best for the citizens and residents in the state of new jersey. >> a lot of questions about how to continue executing that mandatory quarantine. thank you very much.

is looking good for some really generous totals. typically we get some really great totals up in the north bay but everywhere else hardly anything in the south bay because of that rain shadow effect. the good news is for trick o or treaters between 5 and 7 the showers let up. our models now bringing in up to a half of an inch in ukiah. we all need the rain and it's looking good for that. saturday morning it starts to clear out, saturday will be chilly, about 65 degrees. you get the extra hour of sleep, don't forget to fall back at 2:00 a.m. on sunday. your sunday forecast always scrolling right here at the bottom of your screen.

candles, flowers and kind words in memory of the monta vista high schooler. there are questions this morning about whether that kind of dump or gravel truck should have been on this road in the first place? it goes through residential areas and passes by four different schools. the other question is how the driver didn't know what happened until motorists flagged him down down the road. santa clara sheriff investigators say it does look like the teen was struck with some part of the back of the truck trailer. >> we'll go through his cell phone to see if he was distracted by anything. >> now they're going to check to see if he was distracted but at this point they say it does not appear that he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. one councilman wants to start talking about maybe creating some sort of shuttle service to get more students to school safely. this year alone, five other

students in addition to this one were hit by cars on their way to school but fortunately all of them survived their injuries. the investigation into this deadly crash does continue. we checked with the coroner and they have not released the identity of that student and we won't do it until they do. >> thank you very much. >> it is 5:51 on your tuesday. san hope say state students are remembering one of their classmates hit and killed by a car in front of his fraternity house. dozens of fraternity members and friends held a memorial for him. the driver took off. police arrested 22-year-old solomon faried a short time later. freeze is also facing a dui charge. >> medical marijuana supporters pushing back for new rules against kiss penceries in san jose.
