tonight. but the giants and the royals seem ready for the winner take all matchup. >> it's hard for fans to get over last night's game. >> reporter: sam and laura, giants and torture go hand in hand. the series all tied up 3-3, game seven behind me here at kauffman stadium tonight. do or die for the san francisco giants. we shot video of the gape as fans were leaving, disappointed. it was tough for them to watch after their team was shut out by the royals 10-0. the giants didn't win last night, fans admit it's been fun to watch the matchup, giants and royals, both wild card teams making it to the world series and playing all the way to decisive game seven. we spoke to giants fans after the game. they remain hopeful and confident. >> we got it. >> we thought we'd give kansas city one more tonight, to enjoy the world series and tomorrow we'll take it.

>> we flew out here today, me and my best buddy. a phenomenal day. today's great. k.c. people are great people. >> we love you, man. >> but giants are the champions. >> reporter: leaving disappointed but confident tonight, many have to shell out more money for another night at hotel, another day at rental car and another day for game tickets. i checked stub hub, standing room only $600 now. you want to sit behind the dugout, you'll have to shell out more than $2,000 for a ticket. giants fans say it will be worth it if they win. live from kansas city, janelle wang, "today in the bay." >> a big if they win. back here at home, thousands of fans spend another evening at civic plaza. >> where "today in the bay's" bob redell live in san francisco. bob, we know someone lined up at 5:00 a.m., 5:00 a.m. to watch

game six. anybody out there now? >> no one here yet. i wouldn't be surprised if somebody shows up in the next hour. it does get crowded here. of course tonight is the deciding game. game seven. something that will be weighing on minds of many fans. it hasn't been since 1979 that a visiting team has won game seven in the world series. of course the giants are in that position tonight. that game first pitch 5:02, shown on the big screen behind here here, set up in front of the orange lit san francisco city hall. if you're thinking about coming out here, you will want to get out here early. the video from last night, thousands of people packed into the civic center plaza, ready for what was supposed to be a good game, at least from the san francisco giants' point of view. it wasn't. the royals crushing the giants last night, 10-0.

many fans spent hours here waiting, securing that good viewing spot, leaving early, some by inning seven. now, tonight again, do or die. we will know who are the world series champion going to be and reaction afterwards. there's some sort of celebration or something of the other nature. that's why san francisco police are prepared, they're going to have a boost around 20%, the number they gave us, in the number of patrols. we spoke with the police chief, they will be tar getting specific areas to keep the peace. >> broadway, marina, derry boulevard, now a ballpark on king street. >> reporter: so if you are coming out to the viewing party tonight here at civic center plaza, the same rule as last night and 2012, you're not allowed to bring alcohol. they will have you pour it out if you do. again, you might want to arrive

this is after sears and penny's announced closing the store as a nation downsizing but they were poised to take advantage of now owning a majority of the shopping center. patience, why it paid off, apple adjacent, across the freeway, but as apple ups property values, the developer stans to gain. we'll talk about the challenger the developer has in developing here, even if it owns the property. >> new look out there. thank you. 5:06. teenage couple behind bars accused of a brutal home invasion robbery. in july boyfriend and girlfriend christopher and tiffany nguyen held another teen at gun point while they robbed his home. accused of armed robbery and false imprisonment. security cameras helped capture

the teen averagers. the street had a lot of cameras because a rash of burglaries. health officials trying to figure out what made dozens people sick in redwood city. 50 people reported ill, 12 taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated for dehydration. all of this according to the "mercury news." hundreds at the gala in the san francisco bay hotel in redwood city. the paper reporting several people got sick after eating dinner and salad. >> enjoy today, word on the street when it comes to forecast april lost changes coming to the works. >> brisk. >> chilly out there. good morning, happy wednesday. it's a little bit chilly. grab your coat. something you can ditch later on today. we'll see 80s return. inland valley spots warm. temperatures above average. 76 the high in san francisco. 78 for the east shore. 82 in the south bay today.

a lot going on as we head through the next week. let's talk about what's happening first. obviously halloween, a storm is brewing. time this out for you. tonight as well we've got another world series game. the forecast for this. more importantly, our pattern business to change and the rain that we desperately need looks like we're going to be dealing with quite a bit as we get into the month of november. stick around. plus an election next week. a look at november 4th forecast. everything coming up in my next report. good morning to mike inouye there good morning. look at the bay bridge toll plaza, approach we had, there's a backup on the left approach right here between the hov lanes and fas-trak lanes than cleared up. all of the cash lanes open look at maps on the approach, nothing going on the approach or rest of the bay. pick your path, what you expect as far as slow of speeds. here, south 680, allen rock, the crash affecting on-ramp,

cleared. but i see slowing in both directions, just north of mckee. i've got my eyes on it but no concern as far as chp is concerned. west 580 at dublin interchange, fender bender near the interchange. chp still getting there. we don't see slowing yet. still early. just happened a couple of minutes ago. san mateo bridge, both side of the bridge from hayward, flat section west, commute direction is smooth, getting off the high-rise on the foster city side as well. we'll check that span, as folks come off of the bridge and approach 101, easy, light drive. no delays for san mateo, 92 or 101, nothing going on as far as incidents on the peninsula at all. 5:09. the fbi admits it made up news in order to catch a crook. >> bizarre. tough to watch, lava creeping toward a town in hawaii. nothing homeowners can do to stop it there facebook going to spend billions of dollars, good

to you. 5:12. lav haa from the big island is yards from homes and could consume them in the next several hours. na net miranda, good morning. >> good morning. residents watching the lava flow for months hoping it would change course. the 2000-degree molten lava is dangerously close to homes. if residents haven't voluntarily left, those who stayed behind are on alert for mandatory evacuation orders. they're wondering why the orders haven't been issued. people are packing up and learning living in paradise can have its costs. movements are inconsistent, therefore difficult to predict. at times advances as fast as 15 yards an hour, then slows to 2 yards an hour. could reach a town of 1,000 people. emergency officials said some lava has crossed into private

residential property. >> there's always hope it would stop, change direction, miss the community but the minute it affects the first structure or home, it's going to become that this is real. >> yeah, it's real. it's now or never. you pack and you've got to get out. >> local officials said they are preparing to deal with emotional residents, in many cases a home has been owned by one family for generations. they anticipate that they'll be grieving. there could be as many as 50 homes in path of the lava's flow. >> tense moment there's for residents. 5:14. facebook plans to spend lots money it has lots of money to spend. scott mcgrew, you say good news for us in the bay area. >> good morning. facebook, sam, spent tens of billions of dollars over the last couple of months on acquisitions and hiring. it's going to increase its spending by 70%. those are google-like numbers. while admittedly some of

facebook's spending goes in a couple of pockets, the idea that a silicon valley company plans to spend billions upon billions to get bigger is good news if you're in the tech business or selling to the tech business or landlord or car dealer. it's disappointing if you're a shareholders. shares fell in after hours trading. facebook continues to add users, half of the world has a facebook account and uses it once a month. corny reagan live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning. >> good morning, scott. futures are decidedly lower this morning. we've lost steam as we get close tort open we saw a nice rally yesterday. not sure if we'll continue that. at least for what we saw yesterday, markets able to shrug off durable goods orders focusing on consumer confidence. investors are will await the latest announcement on the

federal reserve on the bond-buying program. earnings reports from sodastream, visa, kraft, dream works animation. >> u.s. courts have thrown out a lawsuit brought by manuel noriega, former leader of panama. upset by his likeness out of a video game. he's the bad guy in a recent edition of "call of duty" video game or this person is. he says, hey, that's me! and that violates u.s. federal law the same way guys were using college football players, right? they were suing madden football saying you can't use my identity without paying me. noriega found out about this when his grandkids were playing the game and pointed out the goal was to catch grand dad or general grand dad, not sure what the title is. the court said, no, forget it. >> love the grandkids found it. >> wonder if you're the hero of the game if the perspective would have been different. >> that would be a different history, yes. >> thanks, scott.

welcome in meteorologist christina loren right now. a look at forecast. a lot go on. >> speaking of heroes, scott mcgrew, it's confirmed, superman for halloween? loving the clark kent style. 5:17. no surprise, we knew he was superman. 52 on the peninsula. 52 east shore. good morning. wine country, 47 degrees. it's chilly but extreme weather in the north bay that makes for those delicious grapes that fill your cups. 47 degrees in north bay. you're going to jump. weather later on today into the 80s. talking about a really warm day. feeling like summertime although it will be mainly sunny out there, this is going to be the peak. then numbers crash as we get into the next couple of days. 82 degrees. good morning san jose. peninsula at 81. san francisco, 76 degrees. the dream is still alive. 84 for the north bay today. starting out in the 40s.

end up in the 80s. that's a pretty decent spread. 40-degree jump over the day. peninsula 81. 76 in san francisco. and 78 across the bay in the east shore. not a great deal of temperature separation for today. versus inland valleys and what we're expecting at the coast. we'll see a lot of sunshine. as we head throughout thursday, changes start to kick in. there's a storm brewing for halloween. this is what we're looking for in terms of time. watch out for the creeper. 3:0062. we are going to see rainfall. now the periods of heaviest rain are expected between 1:00 and 5:00. so that's the time frame we want to stay indoors if you can. if you have to get out, face the fact you're going to be exposed to the elements. shouldn't be that bad especially areas to south of the golden gate bridge. expecting heavy totals in the north bay, possibly up to .6 in ukiah, looking good for a quart

southbound 880 into fremont. northbound routes take up a little volume. bay bridge toll plaza, cash lanes starting just a tiny bit of backup but more traffic coming. volume starting to bill off of the east shore freeway. no slowing so far. north bay southbound 101 easy drive, close to the limit. south through san rafael, light volume of traffic. smooth at limit into navato past high way 37 into the golden gate. back to you. 5:20, prosecutors trying to decide whether to seek the death penalty against a man accused of gunning down two northern california sheriffs deputies. they made separate court appearances yesterday. neither entered a plea. prosecutors have filed a long list of charges against the couple, including murder, attempted murder, carjacking and theft. scram county deputy attorney oliver and the homicide detective michael davis were killed in the rampage.

investigators say he crossed into the country twice and deported back to mexico twice for both crimes. immigration control activists say it's proof the present policies are not tough enough. >> 5:21. fbi confirmed it faked an associated press story to catch a bomb threat suspect in 2007 but it did not spoof a seattle times web page as part of the investigation. both the news organizations have objected to the fbi's actions. police near olympia washington sought the fbi's help as repeated bomb threats led to a week of evacuation of a high school in 2007. the fbi tricked the suspect into revealing the location of the computer by sending a link of the fake news story associated with the threat. 5:21. a new study suggests opposite of what we thought about drinking milk. found swedes who drank more cow's milk dies younger, and

women suffered more bone fractures. the study published in the bmj medical journal. more research is needed and the association may be coincidental. the team used data from 61,000 women and monitored them for 20 year, 45,000 men for 11 year. >> milk does a body good. time 5:22. we like to think of them as good luck charm, the super afghanistan that made the trip to k.c., next.

games, all comes down to tonight. >> that's right. if the giants win, they'll leave kansas city world champions. >> possibilities. >> janelle wang live outside kauffman stadium in kansas city. giants fans in k.c. still optimistic. >> reporter: they are very optimistic. this is it, the series tied 3-3, decisive game seven tonight here at kauffman stadium. the giants' starting pitcher tim hudson facing off against jeremy guthrie, rematch of game three, which the royals took 3-2. as for last night, royals pummeled the giants 10-0. giants fans left disappointed. tougher when it comes to their wallets, many giants fans have to shell out more money to stay longer and pay for tickets which are selling for $600 for standing room only to $2,000 plus for seat behind the dugout. they admit, it's been worth it.

>> actually enjoying it. it's giants baseball torture, right? you fall behind, you come back. you lose a game, you win the next one. >> i spent everything i had to come out here. but you know, it sucks, it was rough. the game was over in the second inning. but you know what? we still got one more game. >> we got it, game seven. >> reporter: going to have to ask his dad for a loan because he would like to stay one more day and attend game seven tonight. game seven should be thrilling, 5 of the 6 games, one team has outscored the other team by at least five runs. royals are the favorite tonight because of the home-field advantage. but the giants have a much better postseason record going into the world series for the third time in five years. hopefully they will emerge as champions again tonight. reporting live from kauffman stadium, in kansas city, janelle wang, "today in the bay." >> that's right. we have celebrating to do.

remind folks what qe is. >> the idea that the fed is going to spend money on things. normally the fed's job is to raise and lower interest rates. er the federal open marks committee, job to raise and lower interest rates for banks. what qe is, is spending money on stuff. they literally bought a shopping mall at one point, the point, laura, to get money into the economy. talking about no longer doing that, going back to pre-2009 policy of dealing with interest rates. no more spending money on stuff. >> so what does that mean to us? you know, if the officials stop pumping money? in it means the economy has to stand on its own. what we don't know -- we know the economy's good but we don't know how good the economy's without the fed underneath. it's like the parent holding the seat of the bike eventually you're going to fall you don't think he or she is back there, the fed's going to let go.

we'll see how the economy does. >> talk about how this could affect home prices. >> it could affect home price in the sense that, as money starts to come out of the stock market, as there's less money available, it will go into bonds. that could actually -- actually decrease the cost of houses in the sense that mortgage rates could go down. that's assuming the economy -- >> they're low already. >> low already. as more money flows out of stock market, maybe into bonds, mortgage rates could fall again, assuming the economy's stable without the fed's qe. if we keep pedalling our bike we think maybe mortgage rates will fall. >> letting go a little bit. check in with sam right now. >> i'll take it here. hope don't end up with cuts and bruises from falling off the bike by does happen time to time. meteorologist christina loren has a look at what's go on outside this morning. good morning. >> good morning, sam, good morning to you at home.

it's chilly out there. if you're someone who does take your bike to work, we're getting into the tile of year temperatures are cold, add the windchill factor as you're moving on your bike. keep that in mind, it's that time of year to break out ear protects, ear muffs are a good idea. warm and sunny wednesday. comfortable day. we'll hit 80s, just a spectacular day. warmer than average across the board. things are going to change rapidly. i want to make sure you're aware. rainfall coming in, cold air and some of the coldest temperatures of the season falling into the 30s. as we head through the next couple of days, courtesy of the cold front. a time line for the changes. as we head through today, warm tomorrow. skies overcast. temperatures drop. it turns breezy to win dpi before the day's done. friday morning, we will be tracking showers on "today in

the bay" as of friday morning between 6:00 and 8:00 when i'm tracking arrival of the first showers across the bay area. this goes for areas south of the golden gate bridge. friday heavier rain moves in for the evening hours. depends where you're celebrating halloween. futurecast coming up next. first i want to check your drive. good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning. we're looking at a much nicer flow of traffic for 580. it was the case until just a second. look at that, slowing now again. look at the maps, earlier stall approaching the dublin interchange. speed sensors slowing down again as traveling over to the area, not because of the stall which cleared but the slower drive because of the volume of traffic coming in, typical pattern out of livermore and dublin. beginning of your typical commute. rest of the bay standard as far as colors, south bay and peninsula, nothing out of the ordinary. bay bridge toll plaza, we have that stack up for the cash lanes. we should see metering lights turn on in the next five minutes. but right now fas-trak breezes

through. back to you. >> fas-trak to another story. rocket ship bound for international space station explodes moments after take-off. "today in the bay's" nanette miranda joining us. a bay area connection to the accident. >> sixth graders from the urban promise academy in oakland had an experiment on the rocket. but it's been lost. unmanned rocket headed to the international space station was carrying supplies to six astronauts when something went terribly wrong. seconds after take-off, the rocket explodes and crashes down to the launchpad, located in wallace island, virginia. the 14-story rocket plunged to the ground in a ball of fire. the descent could be seen for miles no one was hurt. the first accident for nasa since turning to private contractors for space delivery. >> it's a tough time to lose a launch vehicle and its payload. not as tragic as losing a life

associated with. we're very happy to report no injuries and the safeguards in flight and on the groundworked as they should have. >> reporter: most of the damage was confined to the launch site facility. a russian rocket lifted off a few hours later with plies and it's on its way to the space station. spacex has a contract with nasa to resupply the iss. it's supposed to launch a supply rocket in december. >> thank you. 5:39. the president dealing with the ebola crisis. live in washington with details next. >> the man accused of going on an arson spree in the south bay, preparing to answer tough questions.

moments. today, president obama sends a mess to a message to american health care worker traveling to west africa. he doesn't want them to be discouraged by helping ebola patients. richard jordan live. >> the president will hold high level meetings in situation room with public health team and national security team. then he will attend a white house event. we have just learned that ebola survivor dr. kent brantly will be introducing at that event. the president wants to reassure american health care workers willing to go to west africa to treat ebola patients. many of those workers fear the backlash they face when they return home. that's been highlighted by the case of nurse kaci hickox who was returning to new jersey from sierra leone, held in isolation for three days in a tent. now back at her home in maine. she said that she is planning to break her quarantine tomorrow and she will go to court, take

the state government to court if they do not allow her to leave her home. so that's one of the issues that the president is tackling. he's also looking at the issue of soldiers who are going to west africa to provide aid, what happens to them when they come back. military officials are asking for a 21-day quarantine for those soldiers as well. >> are lawmakers taking steps to reassure the public? >> not just yet, but there are lands in the work. bipartisan support for ebola treatment and ebola vaccines to put that at the top of the list of priorities for the fda. senators plan to introduce that bill once congress comes back into session. that's all in the works now. >> one to watch. richard jordan, live from washington. thank you. >> let's get a look at what's go on outside. we know there's a water crisis, voters looking at 7.5 billion bond measure this election. but that won't do enough right now. what we need now is rainwater. >> a lot on the way but not

you might have your heater going. it's one of those days. 40-degree jump in many of your inland valley spots including north bay, starting out in low 40s. end up in the low 80s. as we get into afternoon, let's talk about the timing of the storm system. i want you and your family to get out there and enjoy halloween. here's the deal. timing is tricky. rain itself is a treat but timing is a trick. we stop that clock for you at 11:00 a.m. at that point, shower activity along the peninsula all the way north through santa rosa. still dry at that point from san jose through the tri-valley. we continue futurecast, heaviest periods of rain between 12:00 and 5:00, and between 5:00 and 7:00, the good news showers let up. that's the forecast that we're hoping for, temperatures are looking good as we head throughout your thursday, down 79 degrees. friday, saturday, sunday look at the difference. it's going to be cool around here. showers for friday, early saturday, clearing you out by

camera, because i want to show you the volume, starting to increase. tracking southbound 101, university we see slowing as you're approaching the embarcadero. reports out of the camera shot, weights dropped on across lanes. i'll let you know how that affects your drive. starting to stack up south of university. >> the traffic cam, the roadways lit up. new span of the bay bridge, 11 years in the making, last of the architectural lights are lit up. >> 1600 l.e.d. light fixtures placed on 270 poles along the bridge from oakland to treasure island. operators are able to turn the lights on off in a matter of seconds. the new l.e.d. light pictures and poles cost $20 million. they will save money in the long run. >> what could make an entire city area light up, one final game to determine who is go tock the baseball world champion team. world series hags has come down to tonight.

a world series title. live to kansas city where janelle wang is talking to giants' fans ahead of tonight's crucial game seven. new this morning, for the second time this week, police in the east bay investigating a possible deadly case of road rage. the latest incident happened yesterday in berkeley. according to the contra costa times, officers found a man shot to death outside the sea breeze market and deli on university avenue. witnesses reportedly told police they saw two people running from the scene in a car speeding away. no word on why officers think it may be a case of road rage. investigators are still looking for whoever shot and killed a mother of four in oakland sunday. investigators say perla avina and her husband were driving from the grocery store when someone shot at their car in an apparent case of road rage. police offerings $30,000 for help tracking down the gunman. a suspected serial arsonist accused of terrorizing san jose

last winter could be entering a plea in court. william patrick brennan charged with ten counts of arson, three of attempted arson. brennan admitted he started the fires in january and knew the locations and times of each one. because of brennan's record as arsonist and sex offender, if convicted he faces several life terms in prison. also in court the doctors who investigators say ran a pill mill out of her practice in los gatos. accused of prescribing large quantities of prescription drugs to undercover officers without performing exams or reviewing medical records. charged with knowingly prescribing drugs to addicts. arrested in 2012 following a year-long investigation. that investigation also revealed a number of her patients were reselling the drugs on the street. cupertino's vallco shopping mall could see transformative changes soon. one of most prolific real estate

developers has bought up stores. >> prime real estate, sam. 50 acres of commercial space that is largely unused. the interior part of the mall boarded up, no merchants inside. that could soon change with the acquisition of three big box stores by sam hill properties. according to the silicon business journal the menlo park-based developer acquired macy's, sears and jcpenney's store capitalizing on national downsizing. wit the acquisitions, owning 32 acres, or more than half of the vallco shopping center property. this is prime real estate, across the freeway from apple's space chip. developing vallco won'ting easy. no plans for development here

with customers who are grandfathered in. the federal government says, at&t is slowing down the customers' data feeds but the business calls rattling by 80% to limit unlimited data and that's not fair. the feds have taken the phone company to court in san francisco to make them stop. data over cell phones very important. but it's going to get more important as we rely on our phones more and more. one example, if you count up every microprocessor sold just in iphones there are more of those than computers on the entire planet 20 years ago. each of those phones, of course, hundreds more powerful as well. speaking of the connected world, british charity samaritans has a new service. register your twitter handle and it keeps an eye on people you follow, looking for words people might need help, sad, lonely, e-mails you, gibbs you heads up. go to samaritansradar.org.
