5:03 am
your pick of spots along market street. like eva and her family, you got out here at 2:30 in the morning. this is the same spot you had in 2010, 2012 and now four. what is it about this spot? >> i love it. you can see everything coming freshly down the street. >> and your memories of 2010 and as well? >> i love all of them. all of them, i really do. >> because we were home watching it and they had me on the edge of my seat. when they missed that ball and then they kicked it out of the way and it's like oh, my god. i was just so nervous and scared. and nen when panda caught it, he just laid back, we were all
5:04 am
yetting. >> what are you going to do before the next six, seven hours. >> starbucks? you're too young for star bruks so that parade starting at noon, they'll have a big show like they did at the civic center, like they did in 2010 and 2012. you'll hear from the mvps for this game. during the parade itself, you'll have some alum, like barry bonds, willie mays, cepeda.

5:08 am
floats have already the floats are ready to go from parking lot a to start the parade over by market street. i learned workers began putting together the floats before anyone would know the giants would win the world ears is. they're called the parade guys. they use the same floats over and over again, it's just that they're decorated differently each time. according to workers we spoke with yesterday, it's actually challenging to put a giants float together. >> the challenge, believe it or not, is that thes will had to
5:09 am
switch off paper and go to paint. >> and back here live at parking lot a i'd like to say it's an honor of me for panda miranda. all the other floats are headed this way. there's only a few left that to work it's way pay mart. >> you officially have a new nicknamed, we will start our coverage at 11:00. >> so exciting. we saw some stylish dancing in that video. we'll turn to meteorologist
5:10 am
christina loren. >> hey, good morning to you. everybody is so excited. one thing that's going to make for a more interesting parade are the showers coming in and rahal we're expecting some you'll see a lot of fans screaming and holding on to their coats and hats. along with the rain we're going to get a little bit more wind. it will be now watch this, we're starring out in the 60s just about everywhere. we're going to sticks a cool. ooh, certainly's happening out here. hmm. maybe we'll find out.
5:11 am
we want to investigate after all. i'm going to slow i guess they wanted to give you an indication of how much. itwe have all lanes now cleareds a they've opened all the cash lanes, this is ready threat all the focus is going to start being on san franciscos a we approach the new broadcast our padi don't know and christina will be on the floats. woo -- i do have to call a very serious incident, someone has been killed downtown san jose at
5:12 am
santa clara and second. it also disrupts the bus service for the area. a live look at the golden gate bridge shows you no problem. rain coming from the north so we'll track that as well. >> thanks so much. >> win continue is it too
5:13 am
5:14 am
5:15 am
we are refamiliarizing you with your giants players. hunter pence played for the astros and the phillies and he was diagnosed with sherman's disease, a final disorder that usually develops during childhood. you'll see pence and all the other giants during today's parade. we will carry the parade live on our air. our coverage begins at 11:00. >> it's 5:15 right now. there's a new ride sharing service designed to help bay area parents get kids to and from their activities when parents can't do some of those pickups and dropoffs themselves.
5:16 am
good idea but how do we know our kids were safe? >> that was the first question i had, laura. thanks for the help but who's driving my kids? the company is called shuddle. they've built in extra safety mechanism. >> our driver goes through very deep background check, they all have child care experience, which we verify through employment reference check. >> reporter: that second part is the child care experience that the founder says sets their service apart from others as well. and the child has a family pass word to make sure the driver is who they are supposed to be. the parents can track the trip and they can ride along once in
5:17 am
a while to by the way, we're talking about kids who have to be old enough to ride without a booster seat, that is 4'9", which they generally hit between the ages of 12 and 8. now, the service costs $9 a month and the cost per trip. now in san jose, they plan to expand next. >> she had to take a swipe at our relative swipes. >> have you ever stood in the store and checked something on amazon? what is that? i have to get taller now. checked the price of something on amazon. scottmcgrew, they say they know what you're up to. >> best buy calls it showrooming.
5:18 am
walmart doesn't have a name for it that i know about but walmart apparently thinking about matching its prices to amazon, probably one of the only chains that really can because it can use that massive buying power to really force suppliers to reduce whole sale prices. the wall street journal reports walmart may match amazon this christmas shopping season. meanwhile, cohl's has announced it will be open thanksgiving evening, along with walmart. closing on thanksgiving, again out of respect for employees. >> and consumer electronics expects go pros to be the number one area punishing them lately.
5:19 am
to start the company, he paid her back. >> it tough to find a success story out here in silicon valley. >> they're few and even. but a county in pennsylvania is taking step to protect buyers from criminal. the police station is designating itselfs a an official craigslist zone. it's always a safer bet for
5:20 am
transactions where money is changing hands. >> we do have a microclimate weather alert this morning. we've learned over the years you can't control mother nature. what's the point in even trying toe let's just go with the flow this morning. what do you think? >> all we can do is forecast her power. she's really going to give us a taste of it so this is looking really good. look look as we head through next wednesday we're tracking more and the following week is when we get hammered it looks like. it could change. i'll let you know. i'm always tracking it for you and i tell we got a lot of rain
5:21 am
headed your way. it going to be coming in pretty hard oaf the course of the pray it is i i'm not sure if they have plans in postponing that parade if the rain comes into too heavily. it looks like it will go on. you'll have all the details right here, you don't have to go in where m. not a big climb coming your way. and then, yes, this weekend you
5:22 am
get an extra hour of sleep. a few showers early saturday, monday and tuesday a little weather of a bra in. >> it's been candy time for the last week and a half, christine, to be honest. >> we have the. >> this imsign is not lit up. these stores are not easy either. >> building over here for a frida friday, the rest of your bay looks really predictable for this friday. there's someone who died and was killed overnight and there's an treg from.
5:23 am
>> christina just talked about it. no big deal here heading to the golden gate bridge. everyone will be heading in for the parade. don't forget that. we won't let you. >> thank you, mike. the flu killed more than 300 people last year. millions of dollars of taxpayer-funded flu vaccine go to waste every year. we asked the state health department for the past five years of vaccine usage data. what woo found, more than 88,000 vaccines go unused each year at a cost of at least $5.9 million since 2009. health expert say this is not just about the flew. it about having a system at any point in the outbreak.
5:24 am
>> currently is a great trial line for us to wrap up if and when we need to. we need to get this right. >> which shows you. >> an interesting connection is popping up between one popular giant and an athlete many bay area football fans are not fond of. what's possible today?
5:25 am
wi-fi access in more places then ever before. all your favorites in the cloud and on every device. a home you control with the touch of a finger. news and entertainment that informs and delights in ways you never thought possible. comcast nbcuniversal bringing media and technology together for you.
5:26 am
hey, what are you doing? let's get to know brandon belt. he's 26 years old, he was given the nickname the baby giraffe by
5:27 am
broadcaster duane kuiper, who said he looked like an animal when he was tracking down a ball. >> and before seahawks practice yesterday, wilson told reporters he used to be roommates with mad bum. they apparently roomed together at the east/west showcase back when wilson played football along with baseball. he said he got to know him pretty well over the past few years. he said he felt fortunate to get to know him over the years and was glad he never had to hit any of his fastballs.
5:28 am
5:29 am
5:30 am
5:31 am
5:32 am
5:33 am
>> they look good, though. they're doing what they can to actually keep kids in class. >> in 2012, thousands claimed to
5:34 am
get sick on parade day. the district lost 160,000 in funding due to parade-related absences. yesterday the district superintendent reminded families nicely, by the way, school is in session. >> and a live look along market street, the parade route. bob redell already has a little bit of company out there. we'll check in with him. and if you don't want to get wet, it's going to rain. you can get warm indoors and watch our coverage. >> laura does not that have option. we'll be out there in the parade. >> the avenue of warren avenue and mission boulevard is being revamped. the bart extension is causing
5:35 am
nothing but frustration for 12 years. they've been working to build the bart station and now it looks like the plans -- the neighbors say the area is desperate for the jobs and the transportation. >> the people in this room have been working on this since 2002, 12 years. i've been involved for eight years. people have put their heart and soul into this process. it must said underserved areas and it certainly is that. >> an iconic san francisco race. can you get a free break on registration fees.
5:36 am
>> i say we sign up. there's a one-day only halloween discount. runners can get a 44% discount on the registration fee. that cuts down the price for adults to less than $39 and under 20 for kids under 19. >> and they will certainly be out today,s as the parade is expected to attract over a million people. >> it is a tricky forecast. i have to tell you, things are going to get trickier and trickiers a trick i -- trickier as we head through the next few hours. then the pockets of rain turn over to heavy periods of rain.
5:37 am
if you are going to be headed out and about for trick or treating plans, after about 5:00, the situation looks to improve dramatically. you will be able to get out there with your little ghosts and goblins. 7:00 to 9:00 is going to be the best time frame. i think about 6:00 you'll be able to get out there a-okay. just count on it being damp out there and a little bit of mud tracked in from those goblins tonight. this weekend, spectacular conditions, clearing just in time for the weekend and then we bring back the rain. lots to go over in moments. right now want to check your drive, see if there's any tricks in that department. mike, how we looking? >> so far trick free but a little slowing at the bay bridge plaza, that isn't a trick either. it's pretty good for a friday. getting into the city will continue to build because of the
5:38 am
parade activities. huge issue going on. that will cut off north of market street, the old soma area. this is the parade route. there are a number of bart and muni options that take you underground. we get a live look outside and we'll show you palo alto along the peninsula. 101 moving nicely. consider taking caltrain. >> county and city authorities will be checking on registered sex offenders to ensure they are complying with special
5:39 am
restrictions, they are to be inside between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. and are not allowed to have halloween decorations in their homes. >> the department of alcoholic beverage control will have agents out in party hot spots, particularly around colleges and universities. the goal is to reduce the number of crashes and other incidents involving young people. >> it's 5:39. we're ready for the world series victory parade but are you? we're live long the parade route coming up next. >> it's time to get to know your giants a little bit better this morning. tim hudson gets an introduction. he was born in columbus, georgia. at the age of 39, he's the oldest pitcher to ever start a world series game seven. he was drafted twice coming up by the oakland a's, in the 35th round in 1994 and again in the sixth round in 1997.

they want to add maybe just a few players to the mix but we're all talking about the weather this morning. >> that is the topic du jour. let's take a look at your microclimate weather alert. christina, there's no avoiding this one. >> no, there isn't. laura and i are so excited. we get to go out there. it's a huge, huge honor to be out there in the parade but it's
5:47 am
going to be harder to state on that float. there are going to be a lot of people holding on tight to the umbrellas. i don't like to throw downpours around, that word, i just don't like it. a lot of times we are in the bay area, we look and see something that's significant out in the gulf of alaska. by the time it arrives here, it's nothing. this time we're tapping into some subtropical moisture. what's going to happen is this line of green is going to completely fill in and we're going to hit that moisture-rich plume that extends from the hawaiian islands all the way to california. wait till i show you. i just got the latest data and it is not looking good for that parade. temperatures are going to be pretty, pretty mild all day long, kind of on the cool side, low to mid 60s, all across the board. here it is, the latest model run, the atmospheric moisture
5:48 am
tap coming in at high noon. it will come in so quickly. you see that red? that's an inch of rain coming down per hour. if this thing sets up and dumps rain for two or three hours, we could be talking about a flooding potential. at 2:00, it all moves into the south bay. this is what the models are saying. what's so cool about the atmospheric river is we often see the highest totals up here in the north bay. that's not the case when we hit that river, we're hit that in the south bay. we're looking at just about an inch of rain south of the golden gate bridge. i'm hear to be able to tell people they can stay two steps ahead of this storm. that's what you do every day as well. you warn people coming down the pike. >> that's what we do exactly. san francisco parade, busy.
5:49 am
that's the big one to worry about. 92 not a problema look at t. a typical light build for north 101 over san jose. it's a friday, we have a lighter build. we're focusing our attention toward the city. that was the tip i gave you earlier. we are looking at the traffic flowing right here along marcus street. let's talk about getting into the city first of all. the bay area traffic systems are doings a muchs a they can to get them into the city. they are going to do a load and go between 7:00 and 11:00. that basically means there's not really a schedule. extremely limited parking there. car pool to the terminal if you can. kraltran, they are adding trains
5:50 am
to their system. and the bart systems are adding trains, as well extending service until 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. there's the parade, people getting out of town and of course halloween festivities. they're keeping that in mind. you do have the backup forming. for all lanes you should have the metering lights turned on. back to you. >> thanks, mike. some lucky giants fans this morning, they're going to get their hand on limited edition mad bum underwear. >> jockey will distribute 2,000 pairs of those boxers/briefs at today's parade. they're probably going to be throwing them out to the crowd. >> those suckers flying off the shelves. we have information on today's parade route, street closures, fan photos and interviews with
5:51 am
the players. if you don't want to brave the rain and traffic, just watch it on tv. jessica and roj will be out there all day broadcasting from the plaza. and christina and laura will be out there all afternoon long. >> now there's a ride to hp fill the gap for busy parents that's like uber. >> i guess there would be some concerns from parents about the safety measures involved. how is it going to work? >> there are safety mechanisms built in. the founder and ceo of the company said he saw how many families need just a little bit of help when he was at his last company where parents tried to book rides for their kid but said he also saw room for
5:52 am
improvement, especially where safety is concerned. the company is called shuddle. he said the company built in a number of safety mechanisms. >> our drivers go through very deep background checks. that's national and local level. we meet them all and train them in prn. they all have child care experience, which we verify through employment reference checks. >> he says that part, the kield care experience, is key to their model. he also says the family has a family pass worried that the kid asks the driver for to make sure that the driver is who that person is supposed to be. parents can also track the trip realtime via the app gps. service costs $9 a month plus the cost of the trip. right now there are about 100 drivers signed up, background
5:53 am
checks under way. by the way, we're not talking about all kids. we're talking about kids who are old enough to ride without a booster seat and that is 4'9", which they generally hit between the ages of 8 and 12. >> very interesting. it's all based on an app. >> it is based on an app but they do the background checks. it's not how our parents did car pool but in this day and age, parents just need a little help. >> it going to be a large base of people who want to utilize that service. >> that's what the founder thought. >> starbucks is planning to launch a food and beverage delivery service in select markets during the second half of next year. that will be available to starbucks loyalty program members. >> i for one can use one right now. and scott mcgrew, you've been wondering if all this on demand is perhaps making us a bit spoiled? >> yeah. some of it is through guilt.
5:54 am
the other day i tweeted at san jose airport about a minor problem they were having with the tsa line. i was pleased, the airport got back to me right like that. on the other hand i started to think whether it twitter or uber or the shuttle, maybe this answer of i want an answer now, i want a ride now, maybe that's doing certainly bad to us. turns out most economists and business analysts think this is a good thing. we'll go over that reself-on "press here" this sunday morning. chevron and clorox report profits today. low oil prices could make it tough for chevron. a trading glitch on the new york stock exchange thursday caused a temporary crash. not crash but actually kind of a strange pop in prices. >> the new owner of the l.a. clippers says he's pouring all the energy he used to have into running microsoft into running that basketball team. he says it's kind of the same. people are passionate about sports the way they're
5:55 am
passionate about brands of tech. how passionate? john middlekauf posts this. that's his son, dad, stop slapping me in the back. that's steve ballmer getting very excited and his son saying, yeah, dad. >> you get the girls that way, too. let's check with our girl friday. she's going to look at that forecast. it's a busy one, christina. >> it sure is. we're so honored to be on that float. >> show us your rain poncho. >> i want to look cute, a lot of
5:56 am
us ladies do. we want to look good for the giants. it's all going to be running down our faces later. it's tricky stuff. the main cool front arrives right at launchtime. right now the latest models are bringing in some heavy downpours, potentially over the course of the entire parade. i'm going to show you what i'm talking about. in just a moment you'll be able to see visually what's coming our way. if you have to leave right now, make sure you're prepared for the day and thank goodness it friday and we've got mike inouye. >> we've got a live compute. if her hair's wed, it's probably light here. the bay bridge toll laz a has your metering lielts on. all the folks heading into the city where you see slowing up
5:57 am
the incline. that's about it. no real drama so far. back to you guys. >> how about some spooky fun right about now. the mansion is known for its bizarre construction and very superstitious owner. >> we're all about the giants parade this morning. this is what it looked like back in 2012. sunshine, lots of fanfare. we expect to. >> plus a live look right now at the start of the parade route. if it looks like you're just kind of staring into the face of a panda, that's because you are. all of them lined up tood, ready to hit the road. coming up next.
5:58 am
5:59 am
6:00 am
right now, die hard fans. >> and getting ready to hit the streets. but the ticker tape will get wet, right, christina? >> that's right. like bob said, not a lot of shelter out there from the rain. we stop the clock at 12. that's when the heaviest rain moves into san francisco. we could see flooding during the parade. >> at least it's the right color, orange on your raindar. i've also got my eye on your morning commute. we can't forget about that. >> we can't forget that it's also halloween. so much going on today. it is friday, october 31st. this is "today in the
